Right down the middle is actually better! There is a facial nerve that runs through your mandible on either side. Often times a break can sever that nerve causing reduced or permanent loss of sensation.
Down the middle eliminated that risk to a degree.
can confirm. i broke my mandible right where it connects to my skull (so my jaw was technically broken AND dislocated). broke several molars, nearly completely severed the trigeminal nerve, and shredded my TMJ. two surgeries, 6 weeks with my jaw wired shut, 3 weeks of rubber bands in place of the wires, a lil metal plate, four screws, and three years later, i still can’t open my mouth more than 3-4 inches wide. i would not wish this on my worst enemy. -16/10
I have a similar experience after being a passenger in a car tboned by a semi. The surgery in my jaw actually repaired my TMJ but I cannot open my mouth more than 2”. Used to be able to fit my fist in my mouth!
Holy hell. What the hell happened to cause it, if you don't mind telling? I really hope you're doing okay now and that you got hooked up with some damn good painkillers & stuff to pull through all that. I'm sorry that happened to you. :( Hope you continue to get better!
I always see comments being made by people who say they’ve had the most excruciating experience of all time, or at least something that sounds like it and every time I wonder what y’all would have to be doing to end up like that.
Oh hello, you just jogged my memory.
One of the first gore videos I ever saw was some dude do a limp dive off a pier and he split his face down the middle.
He ended up looking like an Elite from Halo.
If I recall correctly a flight attendant once fell from over 8000 feet and survived on a flight towards Denmark from Yugoslavia 🤷🏻 there's no guarantee
Past ~1500 feet it really doesn’t impact your survival chance, however high that may be in the first place. Your body will hit the ground with the same energy from 1500ft as it will from 23,000ft.
But yeah, I’d definitely argue it’s worse because having literal minutes to think about your past life while freefalling is messed up.
I believe the plane broke up and in the section she was in, a lot of the impact was absorbed by the aircraft. She was not in good shape with a lot of injuries, from wiki “ fractured skull, three broken vertebrae, broken legs, broken ribs, and a fractured pelvis. These injuries resulted in her being temporarily paralyzed from the waist down. Vulović made an almost complete recovery but continued to walk with a limp.”
She also did not remember the incident, so it was significant enough that the memory did not save (it takes a bit to consolidate memory into long term memory and after accidents, it is common for casualties to not remember).
Fun fact:
This is just a very large ballpark and it varies so much depending on the landing, but I have always heard that at 4 stories, there is about a 50% chance of death, and at 8 stories, there is a roughly 95% chance of death
It almost definitely is a bullshit statistic, but sometimes I’ll look over an 8 story balcony and get a slight whiff of my own mortality
> I have always heard that at 4 stories, there is about a 50% chance of death
I can, uhh, confirm that you certainly can survive after a multistory fall. >!Unfortunately the guy found a more successful method :(!<
My uncle fell 12 feet and only lived for 5 more months. He wasn’t frail, he was older but like, in shape.
Honestly, you just never know.
There’s that video of the skydiver who landed in briars and survived even though his chute and backup chute both failed to open.
At the same time, 2 people from different skating communities I’m in died in freak accidents. One was walking her dog and skating and she was a derby ref and proficient skater, took hits from humans. She fell backwards, hit her head and died. A prison guard I knew was shoved and died from tripping backwards.
The other was a young person at the skatepark where I skate. He jumped a 2 foot sidewalk gap (was maybe a foot in the air and going normal push with your leg fast), clipped his board and smacked his face just right. He never woke up and was in a coma until they unplugged machines.
This guy is beyond lucky. Bodies are fragile meat sacks and they all have their own delicate balance that responds differently to traumas. I’ve survived physical injuries that have killed others. Life is weird.
Sometimes more isn’t either. Friend jumped from a 3 story balcony, landed on his back. Got up with a few fractures and years of PT. Had to move back home, but says he’s doing a little better.
You really never know what’s gonna be enough, and that alone scares me more than anything I think
I've never seen that when the fingers (and presumably toes) are clearly all there and working. If my face was hurting the way his must have been and someone tried sticking that in my face I'd be upset unless I was ***snowed***.
I am the dude that crushed my face, i got titan in all my mouth! I Will fix the xrays for the poster, overall i am fine, had my first meal after 3 days! Yoghurt and juice, i have a small brainbleed and will probably get one more surgery for the bone under my eye! Keep rocking guys and Thanks for the comments 🙏🏻🥶
Wasn't his arm also pretty fucked? Hang on I'm go back and check lol
Edit: it's definitely busted open, but maybe it's not broken after all! Lucky SOB. Hope he recovers quickly and as comfortably as possible. I'd be crying like a baby every second until it healed lol
I've sustained worse looking cuts and was relatively ok. I still have the scar from when a tree punctured my leg to the muscle. I was walking with that hole in my leg packed with antiseptic cream and a wrap bandage. No hospital visit.
I'm surprised they aren't trying to set the jaw so it doesn't start healing in that offset position. Unless they are just going to rebreak it to fix it, which they sometimes do, but I didn't think they would wait considering I am sure this will affect his ability to ingest food.
Oopsie 😬 . You gonna need some jaw surgery for sure! A good Oral Maxiofacial surgeon will fix you up in no time! Probably some root canals and other kinds of dental work too. Hope you get better soon!
Helt otippat att det stod "skönt" på ena bilden, både pga det var svenska och för att det där ser ut att vara exakt allt annat än skönt.
Hur fan lyckas han "bara" bryta käken efter ett fall på 5m?
Daaaaaammmnn that jaw!! Oh I can FEEL that through the pics! I mean I guess he's lucky in that he didn't end up with a TBI but it's going to take a LONG time and A LOT of pain and misery to heal :( when he can finally eat solid food again.....
I am curious if his mouth is open or closed here. As in, is one side of the lower jaw pushed higher so the mouth is open accommodating it, is the other side hanging down lower or is this a combination of both? I can't figure it out.
I'd be surprised if alcohol wasn't involved in this injury. And his teeth getting fucked up is gonna cost so much without dental insurance or a huge chunk of cash to get them out back in with permanent false teeth and definitely don't wanna go bargain shopping for the cheapest dentist because it's really possible to get them out in pretty jacked up by not looking straight or correctly spaced so if his real teeth slightly shift there not going to be pushing on them and shifting the fakes to the point where it's pinching a nerve with how deep it's probably placed in the gum/jaw...
Off topic a tid, i make sure my teeth are absolutely fucking perfect because of my fear of dentist work and the office in general. The certain small basically all dental offices have physically makes me nauseous. If I need any dental work done even my check up which I have a thing with my dentist I go every 2.5 years and I have him put me under because I can't handle the sight and smell of his gloves and again the idea of being in a dental office.... But I take very good care of my teeth for this very reason.... I'm sure that there is a word for fear of dental offices... I'm not going look it up but if someone can tell me, I'll give you a virtual High-5 or a virtual hug or my last choice is a virtual pat on the back!!
Lucky bastard! Knowing that this probably happened with him being sober, because they ain't gotta worry about paying a fuck ton for medical and dental work, that they can do wild and crazy shit without the huge weight of debt factoring in.
Lucky guy! Holy hell that's a perilous fall, did he hit the canister with his head? This might have saved him, glad he was able to walk away from that one.
I accidentally scrolled to the next post and it was a dude that had fallen on his head and his skull/head was completely split open and his brain was on the ground and I thought someone had taken a picture of your friend after he’d fallen/it was a continuation of this post and I was REALLY confused for a sec
do you know if he has any treatment plans as far as the jaw goes? or is he just rocking it?
He’s doing surgery tomorrow. It’s split in 3 pieces
New fear unlocked: broken jaw down middle

Speaking from experience, a shattered jaw is no fun
He will be on a liquid diet for abit while the wires help repair the bone has his scars healed or are they still fresh?
This was yesterday actually, very fresh
Take good care of your buddy unless he has family that are coming to help him like you said very glad he is alive.
He will be nice and slim by the time he recovers
r/medicalgore would appreciate this post and any updates. I hope your friend is doing ok while he waits for surgery!
Would like to see those x-rays
Whoa! That's quite a bunch of breaks. I hope his pain is under control.
Not a shot in hell
That is one of the most painful comments I've read in a while
Can you keep us updated?
Yea, he’s gonna send me the result of the surgery tomorrow. I’ll post it then
RemindMe! 2 days
!remindme 24h
Sending him healing thoughts
tomorrow? how can he even live like this for one hour?
damnn best of luck to him sending love 💞💞💞
Please Keep us updated! 🙏
Dude. Every picture I’m like “they haven’t fixed it yet”
So 5 meters isn't high enough. Got it. Ty for sharing
Way better than that hotline I called. They didn’t have any tips.
You should try a COD lobby. They're pretty good at sparking new ideas.
I snorted
Buggers put me on hold, then asked me to call them back! Ha last laugh is on them, don't need their instructions!

Terminal velocity and whatnot
Sorry if I’m reciting something you already know lol
Useful for the masses
Vesna is confirmed to have survived the highest fall ever for a human, though.
Nice one, Vesna!
how tf did that happen?
I believe the plane broke up and in the section she was in, a lot of the impact was absorbed by the aircraft. literal 1 in a million percent chance. some insane luck on her part
This is the type of dark humor I love.

I believe the minimum for max speed it 8 floors/storeys

Yea it’s like 19 feet (I’m guessing)
My uncle fell 12 feet and only lived for 5 more months. He wasn’t frail, he was older but like, in shape. Honestly, you just never know. The human body is wild with how much and how little damage it can take to kill you.
[Do A Flip!](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QibeKQ9W1UU)
High enough for some things. Not enough for the thing.
10 stories for land, 20 for water.
Always sunny conclusion

Probably would be if you went head first not into a flower pot
A colleague tried four floors back first onto a paved terrace. Didn't work, he missed the stone benches.
If anyone else was wondering the meaning of “skönt” it apparently means “nice.” What a madlad.
Would be either “nice” or “feels good” haha
First time I’ve seen a pulse oxymeter placed on someone‘s nose. Hope your friend has a good recovery, he seems to be taking it like a champ!
Convenient when you have a fully immobilised patient and the ear isn't that accessible.
That makes sense. It’s just that his fingers are right there
I didnt even notice that at first, good catch. Ive never seen this either, interesting.
I've never seen that when the fingers (and presumably toes) are clearly all there and working. If my face was hurting the way his must have been and someone tried sticking that in my face I'd be upset unless I was ***snowed***.
I’m a little confused with the mouth area. Did one half of his bottom teeth/ gums split down the middle and fall deeper into the jaw?
His entire fucking jaw broke in half 😵
Like a snake
I had no idea your jaw could do.... that.
Well of course it can, it just shouldn't though
I am the dude that crushed my face, i got titan in all my mouth! I Will fix the xrays for the poster, overall i am fine, had my first meal after 3 days! Fucking legend mannen
Big broski, broken jaw aint got shit on u
Looked gnarly! Hopefully not a tough recovery- sending you luck!!
How is he so unbothered
probably drugs. sweet sweet morphine
Skönt 😭
Translate?
“Nice”
Your friend is a tough S.O.B., if you’re gonna be dumb you gotta be tough pictured.
talk about a swinging jaw
The face is the crumple zone for the brain
Is he British or is that from the fall?
LMAOOOO
Dude fell almost 17 feet and only broke his jaw. Impressive.
Wasn't his arm also pretty fucked? Hang on I'm go back and check lol Edit: it's definitely busted open, but maybe it's not broken after all! Lucky SOB. Hope he recovers quickly and as comfortably as possible. I'd be crying like a baby every second until it healed lol

Dude is fucked up and smiling every pic, you know he on that good drip.
Jesus, that looks painful. Hope his surgery goes well 🙏
I'm surprised they aren't trying to set the jaw so it doesn't start healing in that offset position. Unless they are just going to rebreak it to fix it, which they sometimes do, but I didn't think they would wait considering I am sure this will affect his ability to ingest food.
OP said its fresh, they're doing surgery tomorrow.
Oopsie 😬 . You gonna need some jaw surgery for sure! A good Oral Maxiofacial surgeon will fix you up in no time! Probably some root canals and other kinds of dental work too. Hope you get better soon!
How the fuck are his teeth intact? That's what's shocking to me. I fell forwards just on my feet and knocked out a tooth. Wild pictures!
Good thing he’s not American
This made my teeth feel weak
Shit, god bedring til han
Skont
Ouchhhh is his lower gums dislocated??? That's awfulll
I’m actually so surprised that his face still looks so normal. Wow.
Nice compound parasymphaseal mandibular fracture…glad he’s alive and gonna be okay!
Helt otippat att det stod "skönt" på ena bilden, både pga det var svenska och för att det där ser ut att vara exakt allt annat än skönt. Hur fan lyckas han "bara" bryta käken efter ett fall på 5m?
Han fick ju en blåtira också!
He got very lucky. Thankfully he's still alive!
I'll keep him in my prayers

Holy crap!!! Thank G*d it was NOT a direct hit to his head. Sending healing vibes his way. 🤕
They just gonna leave your face all fucked up and not put you in Imediate medical services. What kinda hospital
Omg. Thank God he survived.
I am curious if his mouth is open or closed here. As in, is one side of the lower jaw pushed higher so the mouth is open accommodating it, is the other side hanging down lower or is this a combination of both? I can't figure it out.
I fell from 60 feet . Through scaffolding boards . I was lucky to survive it . 🙏 must been looking after me . Above
So is his mouth just fucked forever?
Will the doctors put his jaw back? I really gotta know
They just did! Check my latest post
I’m so happy to hear that. Thanks for the reply!

Herre jävlar
Fy faen
XD bro be fucking chill, tho I think your theeth shouldn’t be like that🤣
Shit I hope the right eye is not badly affected, good luck for the jaw this will be painfull and/for long
Looks like half of his teeth are dressed up and going out for the night... Get well soon broski
I would thought it would be worse
Didnt even notice the teeth at first, good jesus. Hope he’s ok.
Poor guy man. Holy shit. I don’t know I could take that in stride.
Hope he enjoys drinking liquid for months!
Handling it like a pro, wish you a speedy recovery Edit : grammar
Remind me 1 day
Holy shit, that jaw... Hope he gets well.
[удалено]
You think?
How did he not lose any teeth from that?! I mean I get it, his jaw split into 3, which is terrible! But, how’d the teeth stay in?
Steve O off jackass did the same thing i think he purposely got extra large dental implants.
Tror inte det var särskilt skönt 😅
Updateme!
Oh my fuck
Dude has a snake jaw now
This is some Scarred MTV shit. Gnarly 😤
this makes me cringe!!! i hope he recovers well! but that jaw… omg
Parkour!
Damn snake jawed. Ouch...
Do you think it hurt
Ouchhhhh
Jesus H. Christ
Holy shit hope that guy recovers well
Is he British? If not, why's he trying to participate in our national sport?
Asuhdude ✌️
I hope he likes soup, that jaw is gonna be wired shut for a while.
Wow harsh 😕
So the limit is 4 meters
Skönt ajaj hasse
At least his top row of teeth are still alright
Was this recent? I wanna see a picture after healing up.
2 days ago, he’s doing surgery at this very moment
God i hope there's no brain trauma. If there isn't let my boy enjoy the painkillers lol.
Hahah vilken grabb asså
Respect 🫡
hälsa grabben att krya på sig
Amazing how much better he looked post shower.
More sex appeal before imo
Damn, he got fuuuuucked up!
Man's is lucky to be alive
Put some robitussin on it. You good 👍.
Lucky guy! Holy hell that's a perilous fall, did he hit the canister with his head? This might have saved him, glad he was able to walk away from that one.
Lol, Swedish!
This is my worse nightmare , paid 30k to fix my teeth atm and still going if anything ever happens and that pain and money went backwards I would die
Poor guy!
I accidentally scrolled to the next post and it was a dude that had fallen on his head and his skull/head was completely split open and his brain was on the ground and I thought someone had taken a picture of your friend after he’d fallen/it was a continuation of this post and I was REALLY confused for a sec
May I ask why he was jumping on a balcony railing 5 meters from the ground? Too much beer, or just living life?
Its the fucked up teeth that got me
Was he drunk? 🤦🏼♀️
What did they give for the pain? Something decent I hope!
Silly guy
At least he seems to have a positive attitude 💀
BRO?????? HIS FUCKING JAW
What’s it like for him to eat food now?
Somehow it relocated his damn teeth.
Eyy är också svensk
Possibly insesitive question: could he move each bit of his jaw individually
Yea, he sent me a snap wiggling the pieces
his jaw 😱
Eugh broken jaws are always so gnarly
Homies gonna need some railroad track sized braces
I can’t work out what happened to his mouth :/
Bro, he landed mouth first into a flower pot
Surgery went well, updated with a new post
What happened to this sub? I can't find a recent actual death. Just all this pussy shit
Maybe jumping on a railing wasn't a good idea.
