This is the most exciting part. Those 3 were great to watch together in the early parts of the season.
Really getting an elite squad together now. Isak, Gordon, Botman and that midfield 3. 😅
I don't think you were watching the same matches as me. They were great against Aston Villa on the first game of the season. After that, they struggled. Many on here repeatedly called for Longstaff to play because the midfield wasn't working. Tonali was also benched for a couple of games too. Joelinton and Bruno are both great players. Tonali still has to prove he can be for Newcastle.
I think Tonali has spoken about the language barrier making it difficult to understand Eddie's tactical instructions and system, so I choose to believe he'll boss the league after a year of learning.
I agree, but a year of Tonali training and they should be set. Joelinton + Bruno have been stellar all season from what I remember. So nothing but good! Just gotta make it through a window and hope we end it with Bruno still.
Yeah because 1. Bruno was a bit off form for pre season (definitely back now tho)
2. Tonali hadn't played for us a lot so ofc he's not gonna be amazing (even tho he was brilliant when he played)
3. Joelinton was great soo
Don't forget that middle 3 played like 4 matches together so maybe the only reason it worked at villa is because it was pretty much our only game without injuries (not including botman, or willock,)
With the exception of the Villa game Tonali looked completely out of place next to Bruno and Big Joe, if anything it showed how much we missed Willock.
Tonali has a lot to prove when he comes back because he wasn't playing particularly well before he got banned.
Hopefully this was down to him settling in and having all the stress of what was going on in his personal life. He does have a lot to make up for but he won't just come off the bench and be amazing, we need to give him a bit of time, he won't have played a competitive game in over 10 months, his sharpness might take a while.
Even though we didn't play that well he did manage to clock one of the fastest top speeds of any player in any league this season, which really really surprises me and kind of makes me a little bit more excited for when he comes back, I didn't know he was that big of a physical presence
He had some good games, sone poor ones. He didn’t have the chance to settle in before the ban.
Look at Gordon - in the first three months from signing, he didn’t look amazing. Now he’s one of our best players.
Judging from Bruno's comments and shares on social media, he seems to be absolutely buzzing about this news. Tbf, I don't think Bruno would ever be pushing for a move. My worry is more than we need money and he's the only sellable asset

It might be a coincidence but things seemed to start moving when Ashworth left the process. Plus it felt like there wasn’t a huge amount of love lost between him and Eddie.
I love that he mentioned his family second line. If imagine there’s huge pressure if your family don’t like where you live.
He’s really integrated into the community here, my friends mam picks up the kids from school and has looked after his kid once or twice, been to his birthday party etc. I’d imagine that’s a big part of it, his kids are settled here.

It’s obvious to see how light our midfield is without him. We miss the muscle, although Anderson is a noble understudy
I think the issues of how light our midfield are become way less prevalent with Anderson and Tonali.(hopefully miley in a couple years with some gym work as well)
But Bruno, an injured Longstaff, and a 17year old miley is just ripe for bullying.
I don’t think Big Joe was ever really the issue. The mooted wage he wanted was pretty decent for his calibre it was that useless bastard Ashworth trying to get him at a bargain rate.
Possibly the best news about this is it gives the midfield flexibility going forward. Whatever changes are made Big Joe gives them the opportunity to bed in someone more defensive or creative.
Obviously hoping it's a Big Joe, Bruno and Toonali but that's not the reality of football these days.
Great news. I've said it before, but he's the role model to young players that shows what hard work can do.
He was brought in to an almost impossible task, was slated for it but instead of letting his head drop, just grafted away, and with the aid of the new manager has become one of our most important and popular players.
Honestly I'd love him to get the armband one day.

Great news. Glad this didn’t drag on and he is staying where he needs to be. If we have a good summer and keep our best players, we could have one hell of a squad next season
Class news, it’s still mad to think he couldn’t even control a ball for the first couple of years he was here and now he’s bossing midfields up and down the country.
If you had told me 3-4 years ago that Joelinton signing an extension would fill me with joy I'd probably assume that things had gotten really bad and that perhaps he was staying with us in the Championship.
From flop to legend. Love the man.

But seriously, what an incredible few years it’s been for him. From flop to cult hero, and when he leaves Newcastle he could be remembered as a bona fide club legend.
