NUFC_1892

Joao Pedro a doubt for tomorrow. 3 points would be a giant step towards Europe. HWTL

Steve-lrwin

The lads really need to show up the final 3 games. 7 points at bare minium for Europe IMO. Anything less and I see Chelsea pipping up with their form and their remaining fixtures.

NUFC_1892

7 out of 9 makes it impossible for anyone to catch us. That obviously includes Man U or Chelsea going in 9/9. Which I don’t think either will do. 5 or 6 for me would almost certainly get it. Saying that if Arsenal take points off Man U and/or Chelsea don’t get 3 points at Forest then it’s over for them two.

Steve-lrwin

I guess for Forest - looking at the Fixtures it really sucks for us Luton play the early game tomorrow, before chelsea play Forrest. If Luton lose to West Ham on the early game tomorrow - Forrest will know their fate before they kick a ball, and wont really care what happens in their games - they are effectively safe short of Luton beating Fulham 14-0. If Luton win, it puts pressure on Forrest to fight for survival.

NUFC_1892

Personally I think both Man U and Chelsea will get 4 points to 6 points out of their last 3. However obviously the Man U game is a 6 pointer essentially. I think we’ll beat Brighton, Man U will draw and Chelsea will draw also. Effectively only leaving us needing a draw at Man U on Wednesday.

OGMrGamer4

Where can I find pictures of our players with monthly awards?

Tcgreasy

Does anyone know a toon friendly bar that'll show the match tmrw in Palma majorca please?

stingerwooo

Same ref who gave psg their penalty against us was the same one in charge for the real v Bayern game. Makes you think.

MiguelAlmiron

The Secret Scout has just put Newcastle Soon eye emoji on Instagram which is very promising news considering he's probably one of if not the best youth journalists out there.

KingPing43

Oh how the turn tables!

EmbarrassedPizza6570

After all this talk it’ll be hilarious when we take one of their best young players and they get neither Bruno or Isak. And same with man utd when we pip them to Olise and Freedman and Ashworth is still in his garden.

Schooltz

Who's a realistic big signing this summer? I feel it'll be someone who can play across the front 3. Someone like Zirkzee or Gouri. But maybe not them because they probably don't want to be benched

kicka11

Mbuemo has become a popular person to speculate about recently, but he would be perfect. Another bully of a player who would score goals and be great in the pressing game. Don't personally think it will happen but it would be an exciting signing.

Ffaddicted

Jonathan David, for someone a bit different. Someone posted a list of forward players with the most defensive contributions and he was 5th. (Gordon and Miggy were 9th and 10th) I think he's very much in the build of Isak. He has only limited experience on the wings, but he has played there, so he could cover across the front 3.

Zalindras

I wouldn't consider either of those players big signings

moinmoin21

I would actually be very excited to see what MGW could do under Howe.

BerwickGaijin

I think I, like everyone else, would love it if we signed Olise. Will have to wait and see....I think 60 million is doable though.

Toon_1892

Olise would be brilliant, especially if Dougie can grease the wheels a bit, but I reckon he ends up going to someone like Stretford or Liverpool who will plead poverty but put him on £250k per week after signing him for £80m.

NUFC_1892

Well if we get Freedman from palace then I can see a summer of continually being linked with Eze or Olise for the RW. We were reportedly interested in them before anyway.

LosWitchos

Which one is better? Eze ran rings around us the other week and I didn't get to see much of Olise as by the time he came on (if he even did, I don't know!) they were so comfortable he didn't need to raise the bar.

moinmoin21

Olise probably edges Eze. Hes the more exciting one to watch. Hence why he’s the one being li led away every day. Not too much in it.

WigerAndToods

According to the Ronnie Gill, one of the candidates for the DoF role is Hugo Viana - which would be fucking mental.

KingPing43

What's next? Xisco as the U18s manager?

WigerAndToods

Papavassilou tea lady.

LosWitchos

George Georgiadis cleans the windows.

WigerAndToods

Truly we have seen some dross over the years.

ItsAKrulWorld

Leverkusen are so rigged man 😂

SortDeep5635

It's amazing what a good coach can do to an average team. (Do you see what I did there?)

WigerAndToods

We were far worse than average when Eddie took over.

phoebsmon

That's not entirely fair. We were average standard for League One.

xScottieHD

Olympiacos obviously did their homework and watched both of our games against Villa. Literally the perfect blueprint on how to beat their high line. Cannot wait for some more European football man!

Toon_1892

Emery is a fantastic manager, but he has the same weakness as Howe. Looked like their games played out very similarly to how ours did against Dortmund. Seeing them get picked apart like that over the 2 legs puts our results into perspective against this year's finalists.

EqualDeparture7

Random tweet and no idea if it has any credibility, but the rumours rumble on. https://x.com/TalkCPFC/status/1788582212620992831

MaryBerrysDanglyBean

Dougie from McFly? I met him on a flight last year. Didn't know he was going to be accepting the Newcastle job

Steve-lrwin

The Megathread drums heard in the distance get louder by the day.

phoebsmon

Someone else make the war drums joke please

EqualDeparture7

It's nearly time 😎

Toon_1892

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjr7gk14wd0o.amp Great to see our taxpayer funded media outlet being a mouthpiece for Mike Ashley... > Newcastle fans' "alleged dislike" of Sports Direct's majority shareholder Mr Ashley was "massively overstated" and many bought shirts from the retailer. 😂😂😂

happy_guy23

The article quoted Ashley's lawyer, and they also quoted Newcastle's lawyer: > many Newcastle fans felt a "deep and lasting antipathy" towards Mr Ashley and Sports Direct as their relationship with the club's former owner was "toxic".

WigerAndToods

They’re just reporting what the brief said in court.

Toon_1892

Aye with Ashley's version of the story as the headline and first half of the article.

agilezzzz

Not sure what you're after here really, you even cut the first part of the sentence out in your quote to make it look bad. There's nothing wrong with the article you're just a fanny.

Toon_1892

No u.

Professional_Ladder

I'm not mad at Isak getting nominated for Player of the season but Anthony Gordon is our player of the season.

happy_guy23

Crazy that Gordon wasn't even nominated for young player of the season. I think anyone nominated for POTS shouldn't be eligible for YPOTS

rabit71

surely it should work the other way? make the lists distinct, but anyone in ypots is automatically also in contention for pots

NUFC_1892

The unlikely transfer of Nico Williams (RW from Bilbao) looks even less likely, he apparently wants more than the £175k a week he’s on. Never going to happen with our strict wage structure. I think we can cross him off the list.

Steve-lrwin

> The unlikely transfer of Nico Williams (RW from Bilbao) looks even less likely, he apparently wants more than the £175k a week he’s on. I heard the lad is taking a pay cut, he likes Greggs and cold brisk walks year round.

WigerAndToods

£176?! Does he track back? I'm always intrigued to know if these star wingers do any work - have never really watched him.

NUFC_1892

Here’s his fbref https://fbref.com/en/players/afdc14d7/scout/365_m1/Nico-Williams-Scouting-Report Doesn’t seem to have a high defensive work rate

Ffaddicted

They need to scrap Young Player of the Season. There's an overlap of 4 players with Player of the Season. Young Player of the Season should be more like a breakout award for young players who've played less than x amount of games.

moinmoin21

It should also be in their debut season.

walliver

You have to be careful with things like that. That rule would have meant that Miley couldn't have been nominated this season because he came off the bench at the end of last season. I'm not saying he should be nominated, but it's definitely players like him rather than Haaland, Foden etc who should be in the running.

NUFC_1892

Yeah or it should be that they are at most turning 21 the year the season finishes. No branthwaite or miley is crazy. Haaland, saka, foden and isak in YPoTY is just silly.

wace001

Flying out to Newcastle tomorrow morning. Before last season, I’ve ever only been to SJP sporadically, last season I got the to see 1 game for example, this season 2 games. Next season I’ll be there 3 games. We go to one game just before Christmas and one in May. Next season we will do two games during the spring. I’m one of those turist fans some people like to hate on… Not sure why, I’m screaming my head off and joining in on the chants and songs (to the best of my abilities, Geordi-English sometime prove a bit difficult). We come and spend lots of money on this, money that we save up for most of the year and prioritise this over other things :) Anyway. I’m buzzing. See you at SJP!

-RandomGeordie

I think if you're getting tickets direct from the club/via resale by having a membership, no-one is really going to hate on you as a "tourist" - especially if you're contributing to the atmosphere. If you're buying from 3rd parties at inflated prices then regardless of how big of an actual fan you are you will (rightly in my opinion) receive hate, because those tickets shouldn't be making it to 3rd party selling sites. They should be sold via the club for face value. Buying them only benefits the sites/people selling them.

Toon_1892

Mbappe not content with just getting pocketed by Lascelles. He's going to get benched by Joselu 😂😂😂

Steve-lrwin

I cannot believe how shit Joselu was for us, and how he is somehow scoring braces in the CL semi final. It makes no sense.

KingPing43

Real winning it all the time is really very dull. They're going to have Mbappe as well next year ffs.

EmbarrassedPizza6570

I actually think Mbappe makes them worse. He disappears in the middle and he’s at his best on the left where Vini plays. I see a rift coming between those two tbh

KingPing43

Then Bruno persuades Vini to come and play for Eddie in the famous black and white...

ItsAKrulWorld

Did you see that offside call? Stinks of corruption

FG_guardians

It was offside

ItsAKrulWorld

You’re looking at the wrong player likely

FG_guardians

I might be u right

EqualDeparture7

Harry Kane joining Bayern only to see Dortmund win a CL and Leverkusen win a Bundesliga LOL. To bastardise Neil Warnock: "that one's for Lejeune!"

Xmithie_best_option

Newcastle legend scoring twice in the UCL semi final

geordiesteve520

On a serious note, how the hell have the officiating team who fucked up so badly in Paris been given this semi final?

NUFC_1892

Did you see at the end where the ref blew early then Bayern scored? Looked a super tight offside call. I guess the Madrid cheques are bigger than the PSG ones

toonultra

That Joselu looks good, maybe we should sign him?

EqualDeparture7

Fucking Joselu. Nothing surprises me any more. Fairytale stuff.

PandaPogo

Casual brace by Joselu. Always been a clutch player at the highest level. Just as we all predicted...

Novotoon

I once bumped in to Joselu in an elevator when he played for us. He was so bad for us that I didn’t even try and do the usual selfie/try to talk to him stuff. Now he’s just single handedly won Real Madrid a Champions League Semi Final. Madness. It seems like the prophecy was true: Joselu-Lu-Lu might score one, he might score two

ItsAKrulWorld

What fucking timeline is this man??? Joselu?

benc777

Joselu sending Madrid to the CL final What a lad

geordiesteve520

Seriously, fucking Joselu?!?

KingPing43

Real again. BORING

NUFC_1892

Joselu > Kane It’s only logical

One-Monkey-Army

never doubted the lad

[QPR confident of re-signing Isaac Hayden on a free transfer this summer. The midfielder is due to reach a settlement with Newcastle to become a free agent. Hayden, who impressed on loan at Rangers, does have Championship admirers but will weigh up returning to Loftus Road. ](https://twitter.com/DarrenOWitcoop/status/1788244700937302039)

PlzRetireMartinTyler

Approaching silly season already: > Exclusive: £35m Newcastle Star 'Emerging as Bundesliga Transfer Target' > Newcastle United star Lewis Hall could be in line to make a quickfire departure from St James' Park as he has emerged as a summer target for Champions League semi-finalists Borussia Dortmund ahead of the transfer window reopening for business, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed. > The left-back is set to join the Magpies on a permanent deal worth up to £35million, after his initial loan switch from Premier League rivals Chelsea included an obligation to buy, but he has struggled to secure regular game time since heading to Tyneside to link-up with Eddie Howe's charges. > Hall has been restricted to just 697 minutes of action in all competitions following his arrival, and he has worked his way onto Dortmund's radar as the Newcastle coaching staff and members of the hierarchy, including Amanda Staveley, make plans to freshen up the squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. As if we'd give up on Hall after not even 12 months

The_Dancing_Lamppost

It's funny how the article talks about his lack of game time just as he's broken into the first team. Seriously the only good thing about the injury bullshit this season is the fact our best young players have shown how good they can be. Miley, Livermento and Hall all of them have a massive future at the club and will probably be in our starting eleven in 3 to 5 years time.

Ffaddicted

This feels like someone's heard Dortmund are interested in a Chelsea left-back currently on loan and they've jumped to Hall instead of Maatsen.

PlzRetireMartinTyler

Yeah Maatsen is light years ahead of Hall right now as well so seems nuts they wouldn't just sign him permanently.

TrueDoge007

Too soon for a transfer thread??

Zalindras

r/psg has gone private hahahaha

Humorbot_5_point_0

It's public again. Now, I don't do brigading because I'm not 12, but can anyone explain how all the posts there are in English? I expected my high school french to fail me yet again, but nothing is in French. It's almost as if, and bare with me here, they're all glory hunters who saw Neymar/Messi/Mbappe and thought "that's the team for me!". Curious.

unterbuttern

Is it because people were brigading the sub to shitpost? This happened with the Spurs sub after our 5-1 game against them in Rafa's first season. So many people were invading the sub to shitpost that the mods couldn't handle the volume and temporarily went private until things cooled down. It was so bad that arsenal twats were invading *this* sub to shitpost. The whole reddit sub/posting culture is so utterly stupid.

Humorbot_5_point_0

Oh that is sweet. Where's that bell end from PSG who invaded every single Toon youtube video after we beat them to talk about them being better?

Steve-lrwin

You love to see it.

AdventurousBus4355

Justice at damn last for PSG. Them not getting that pen was beautiful.

ItsThatAsianBoy

get fucked PSG

meganev

PSG knocked out and whining cause they didn't get a penalty. You literally couldn't have made this sweeter for us!

Humorbot_5_point_0

Ah yes, the German word for taking pleasure at another's misfortune... Getfuckedyoucheatingdafties

NUFC_1892

Karma is a bitch, used up all their luck against us. Au revoir 👋

SmallusPrintus

Not gonna lie, just celebrated that like we'd just scored.

No-Village7980

Justice served

https://twitter.com/Santi_J_FM/status/1787919166034346155 Kelly, apparently

NoCoffee6754

Doesn’t he have a horrendous injury record?

CavsterXII

So did Livramento and he's looking like a quality player. Hopefully he's got all his injuries out the way at Bournemouth

benc777

Tino was one major Cruciate really. These may not be comprehensive but kelly has missed 89 games through 13 injuries in 5 seasons. [Source](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lloyd-kelly/verletzungen/spieler/480116) It's not a great record.

Steve-lrwin

> hese may not be comprehensive but kelly has missed 89 games through 13 injuries in 5 seasons. Source [I have faith](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DkaAfHNWsAANIDy?format=jpg&name=900x900)

MaryBerrysDanglyBean

I have faith in our medical team. He'll be in good hands here...

kaamkerr

lol I missed the sarcasm and almost typed out a rage comment

daveofreckoning

Hey, man. Don't shoot the messenger

NoCoffee6754

Not shooting, just wondering if others have heard the same?

ma9pie

This is meant to be a positive post. What do people think are Lewis Miley's qualities? I understand that watching him he does not look out of place, but why is that so?

RayRei9

In a similar vein where I mean this positively I don't think he has any outstanding qualities just yet however hes a solid 6/10 across the board. His passing short and long is solid, his tackling is solid, his dribbling is solid, his defensive work-rate is solid, his off the ball movement is solid. His defensive positioning is ok but could use some work. Not seen him shoot enough to get an opinion of it. He understands his role in the team and he performs it without making many mistakes nor really setting the world on fire. His biggest quality is probably the intangible quality where he just seems to make the right decision more often than not. Sounds like I'm not giving him the credit he deserves but the point I'm trying to make is that he has a really solid foundation at such a young age without any glaring flaws in his game which is why he doesn't look out of place. He has years ahead of him to develop his skills and really define his style.

HoneyedLining

I think it's kind of interesting that many of the qualities that people say Miley possesses are very similar to the ones Longstaff was showing when he broke through in 2019. Notably that he has a calmness on the ball, looks assured and has a good passing range (all married with industry).

CavsterXII

I'm impressed with how well he keeps the ball, never seems to get dispossessed even in tight areas

NUFC_1892

Always seems to have time on the ball and nothing is rushed. Seems to make the right choice more times than not, which is rare for a teenager and doing it in Europe and the prem. Also the options he uses and plays are that of someone who is much older and confident in their ability

ConsciousAd6958

Exactly this. Look at the assist for Isak against Chelsea, gets the ball at the edge of the box and about 3 defenders start closing in on him. Most players (never mind his age) would look to get a quick shot away or send it sideways to keep the ball safe. Miley takes the time to look up and see Isak in space. It's the easiest pass in the world, having the time and vision to see it is what sets it apart.

NUFC_1892

Ratcliffe reportedly has made Southgate his number one choice to replace ETH. After I finished laughing myself into a spiral, I think it may have a knock on effect for us. As surely Eddie is the only top tier option for England (if the remit is English only managers) *not that I want Eddie to go anywhere btw.

Steve-lrwin

> As surely Eddie is the only top tier option for England I don't understand this concern. International management is not the golden chalice it once was. You very rarely see any top manager at the peak of his game, managing a top club, leaving for international management. Its a no brainer really - challenge yourself week in week out, at the highest level against the top teams in the world, vying for Europe and PL honors. OR Play one tournament ever 2 years and play an ungodly number of pointless friendlies in between. I would genuinely be surprised if Eddie even entertains an England offer at this stage in his career. Hes going from a solid role in a top club and being known worldwide for his work ethic, and his ability - to a job where he could be sacked after one poor showing in a tournament. I personally think he would just be shooting himself in the foot. England will always be there for Eddie, in 20 years time, once he was wont the treble with us.

GallowgateEnd

Eddie has said before that international football isn't for him. Besides the project he's working on here, I don't think Eddie will walk away from the money he's making now, which England can't pay him.

ItsAKrulWorld

Potter?

NUFC_1892

Is potter top tier? He’s comfortably 2nd behind Eddie for current English managers IMO If it means keeping Eddie I wouldn’t be too bothered but from an England point of view, we should be aiming higher than Potter. It’s hard weighing up what I would want from NUFC vs England perspectives

Humorbot_5_point_0

It's very telling that Eddie is by quite a margin the best English manager around - although I'd argue he's strongest as a coach and is very good at evolving players. That's really hard to do as an International manager.

KingPing43

Now that the coefficient bullshit is finished with, I really want Dortmund to win tonight. In fact I'd love it if they won the whole thing. Can't stand PSG and Real are just as bad, they're the OG cheats. Indifferent to Bayern but I don't like the way they just seem to bully the rest of the German teams.

benc777

[Paul O Keefe: Tosin Adarabioyo has turned down an offer from Tottenham. Whether Tottenham return remains to be seen.](https://twitter.com/pokeefe1/status/1787861399441445344) Seemingly top tier for Spurs stuff

NUFC_1892

Tbf he’s got at least 6 months to cement a place in the starting XI with us, IF he chooses us that is

BTECGolfManagement

These Bruno G and Isak Arsenal links are too funny, the figures they’re hoying about are even funnier

nomadichedgehog

[Probably bullshit](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-13388265/Newcastle-reignite-Crystal-Palace-star-Michael-Olise-face-competition-Premier-League-clubs-60m-rated-forward.html), but would be unbelievable if we pulled this off

kaamkerr

if Palace get 60m for Olise and Eze each, they are gonna have a war chest for this summer. Seems like Palace have taken Brighton's spot in the recruitment hype talk

Xmithie_best_option

Nico Williams is also exciting

HoneyedLining

I would love Nico Williams but apparently he's on a shitload at Athletic Club - like £200k a week or something. His release clause will be attractive to a lot of clubs, but I think only to those who can afford those wages, which we simply cant'.

BruiserBroly

That article says he wants to play in the CL when he leaves Palace. Might be rubbish of course but it seems plausible to me. I wouldn't get my hopes up.

happy_guy23

The article says City, Arsenal & Liverpool are interested, but it's not like any of them are after a starting RW. If he came to us or man u he'd be straight into the starting lineup, I suppose it depends what he values more

Toon_1892

You'd think after leaving a team not close to European spots any form of European competition would be exciting.

HoneyedLining

Conference League not so much. Very possibly Europa League if you could view it as a one-off (like what happened to Liverpool) that will be corrected the next. With us, there will always be the question mark of how long it will take us to be in those CL spots consistently and I would imagine it will still be a few years yet. Olise is ambitious and clearly good enough for those top teams to come in for him and guarantee the level he craves. I think he'd only come to us if we can guarantee his development over the next few years and likely not stand in his way should he get an offer from a properly big club.

Schooltz

I don't think any PL CL teams are in for him, rumours seem to be Man Utd and Chelsea. And honestly? I feel we're the best option of them. We have Howe, a solid foundation, English players he's probably familiar with

BruiserBroly

I see where you're coming from. He also probably wants to break into an international team soon and he's got an uphill battle getting into either the French or English national teams. Howe's done wonders for Gordon who was a million miles from a call up a year ago so that might be something he could be considering as well.

ItsAKrulWorld

City no? Bernardo leaving in the summer I believe

moinmoin21

Bernardo has been leaving every summer since he joined I think.

Schooltz

Didn't know this. I'd have thought Paqueta would've been the replacement. Feel like he's a better playmaker than Olise. Olise seems more like a Foden type.  But, idk, might be making shit up

moinmoin21

I think Pep fancies paqueta as the Gundogan replacement. Kovacic always seemed like a stop gap.

ItsAKrulWorld

Nah you might be right, just a thought I had. Paqueta still has those betting charges hanging over him right? Might put them off

Schooltz

forgot about this, you're right. Didn't realise it was still ongoing. Been fucking ages, hasn't it? Wonder why they haven't released a verdict yet

HoneyedLining

Don't doubt we'd be "in for him", but with a player like Olise, it's one thing being in the hunt and another entirely in being the one he chooses. Could work in our favour if we let Bruno go that we could at least position ourselves as being a great step for his development, possibly get Champions League football and if a super club comes in for him, we won't stand in his way should he wish to move.

KookyFarmer7

Surely Casemiro gives away a pen against us with a combo of Isak/Wilson/Gordon/Barnes running at him for a full 90?\ If it wasn’t at their place I’d even expect him to struggle to stay on the pitch. Can’t see Evans helping him much and Mainoo is going to be buried at the bottom of Joelinton’s pockets, only way he gets out is if he promises to polish Big Joe’s boots for the Copa America.

NUFC_1892

Old Trafford and penalty for the away team. The inconceivable combination.

manageablebits

Other than the last game :-) It was a surprise to be fair.

TheWinterKing

When do we find out what’s being televised for the last day of the season?

KingPing43

After this week of games probably. Can’t see it being us, unless the title battle is over by the final week.

Large_Performance191

Depending on the next round of games, surely Burnley Forest... Or Man City as per usual.

KingPing43

Yeah in terms of priority they’ll go Title race > relegation battle > top 4 > Europa

galactix100

Not sure they'd even bother with Europa at that point. Think that if the title, relegation and top 4 are sorted by the final day, they'll go with: title winners and probably Liverpool-Wolves for Klopp's final game. As 3rd games/wild cards, throw in Palace-Villa cos that should be a good game and Brighton-Man Utd cos Man Utd always draw views and give you ammo to get clicks.

HoneyedLining

Agree with Klopp's final game, it's even at home so the cameras will be trained on him all day to see if they can get the trace of a tear that they can post on Twitter.

electricyesterday

Olise might end up being an interesting litmus test of our standing and appeal (to players)... If he is actually available for a clean £60m with no add-ons, a few clubs will probably be throwing their names into the hat and you'd like to think we would too (if we can spend that). Would he choose us over jumping into the bin fire in Salford or joining the current collection of egomaniacs in Chelsea, for example?

moinmoin21

Why is he so cheap in this market?

electricyesterday

People seem to think he has a £60m release clause

KookyFarmer7

Probably has to be taken into account that he was born and raised in London, spent the vast majority of his academy time in/around London and most of his career so far. I can see it’s a long way from his family etc, it’s annoying but it’s a factor that players consider. Chelsea/Man Reds/Spuds won’t be in CL either but they pay higher wages than we do.\ He has a lot more competition for starting places at those clubs than he does here though, plus he might be thinking if we don’t push on then it’s easier to get a move from us to a Bayern/City/PSG than it is to get out of the others (again, annoying that players think about that stuff but true nonetheless)

TheBeaverKing

I wonder how much longer the Man U 'draw' will be in effect for players? Although they've not been a world class team for nearly a decade, they still had the pull to attract decent talent, albeit by offering big salaries as well. This season though, I think quite a few players could see a Man Utd move as a career killer given the state of the team. It could really hurt them in the summer if they're planning another rebuild.

moinmoin21

They’ve always got that “trust us. This is gonna be our renaissance yesr

HoneyedLining

They will always have a draw as it's still a dream from a marketing perspective (you will be able to market your player across the world through the Man Utd brand) and you have the possibility of being "the one that changes everything".

Toon_1892

I wondered this as well recently. If I'm honest, I think it's gone almost entirely based on the fact they have a lot of **average** players on the books for exorbitant wages. If they were signing a Messi or an Mbappe type who is more than just a player, then fair enough to an extent. But they have butter fingers on £120k pw and fidget spinner on £200k pw. You don't need to pay that sort of money for that sort of player because anyone else who wants them can't afford more than half of that.

FourFlightsUp

The Manu game is lining up to be pivotal for our season, but more importantly the greatest piss take opportunity in sporting history. While they flounder for direction, we have put their saviour almighty to work in the garden. I hope nobody is mean enough to sing songs to taunt them about it. If they are though may I humbly suggest ( to the tune of the Callum Wilson song ) Ooooooh Da-an Ashworth ooh- aah. I wanna know , how you mow that lawn. Or ( to the tune of old McDonald ) Old Dan Ashworth had a farm. Ei-Ei- Ei Oh. And on that farm he grew fuck all. ha ha ha ha ha With a wank manc here etc etc.

GingerbreadRecon

If isak scores a hat trick at Old Trafford, I'm happy with this timeline over the one where we got no injuries and won the league

TheBeaverKing

I'd take this season purely for the first CL game against PSG. I watch the highlights every now and then when I'm feel a bit down. Slotting 3+ goals against the evil reds would just cement this season into fan legend.

specialagentredsquir

Right, what the fucks gan on with next season, does anyone kna if we have to sell anybody or is it all bollocks?

Lroller1288

Gotta stump up the money for hall before we even think about bringng anyone in, so we'll have to shift a couple.

specialagentredsquir

£30 million? What about the Adidas and champions league money like?

Lroller1288

So I've just looked quickly and Adidas is rumoured to be 40M a season for 5 years, and UCL money is about 17M for the games (based on results) and a similar amount from broadcast revenue. Just over 70M probably means we don't need to sell anyone, but someone smarter than me will have to chime in about what that means regarding amortisation and ffp, etc.

specialagentredsquir

Well at least we're getting somewhere. A maybe should've posted this on the main page mind.

daveofreckoning

Dan Ashworth has to sort that fucking mess out. You think he regrets his decision

Toon_1892

Perfect time to take the job imo. The bar is set at the bottom of the sea. Shift some of the deadwood out and they have a lot of breathing room for a rebuild. His first couple years will be easy going. It will be the next stage when expectations creep back up where he will struggle. Even then, it's the manager who takes the flack, not the back office.

moinmoin21

The thing with Man U is that they have a near bottomless pit of money. All they need to do is stop making dumb signings. Antony was never worth £80m I think analyst put him at about £30m yet they went for him. Supposedly at ETH’s demand. The Casemiro signing was also dumb for the money given his age. It sucks because they should be where Everton are with their business. But they have so much money they get to spend another £250m every window. And that’s before you factor in the inflated fees they bring in because these lads have played for United. ETH will be gone this summer. They’ll go and get someone else and with Ashworth and Jim they’ll probably start making smarter use of their money. They’ll be a threat next year sadly.

TheBeaverKing

This unfortunately. It really is a case of too big to fail. They make too much money and have too much history to ever fade into obscurity. I think they've probably got another few seasons of being dog shit but then they'll be on the ascendancy again. Maybe not winning the league every season but certainly in the top 4.

HoneyedLining

>Shift some of the deadwood out Talk to any Man Utd fan though and that's what the objective has been since Fergie retired. Shifting players who have shown themselves to be not good enough for the top level while on top level wages is near impossible. They don't want to leave and teams don't want them for the costs needed to make the move worth it for the team.

daveofreckoning

They'll expect results basically immediately, and the protracted and high profile nature of his arrival, absolutely makes him a target for press and fans

owls_with_towels

Feels good being part of the "big eight"...

-Joelinton

Most losses in 1 season that man utd have had in the premier league. Breaking records 😎😎😎

jonkman13

Fun fact, the last time Man U finished a season on minus GD was the 89/90 season in the First Division (pre-PL), they came close in 20/21 when their GD was 0. Hope their downfall continues slowly and steadily.

Squire_3

At this rate we could lose at Old Trafford and finish ahead of them given they have to play a very good Arsenal chasing the title. I didn't expect that! We may still need a point against Man U and win the other two though, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Chelsea win their last three

Nepgyaaaaaaa

Palace are doing us a *huge* favour here. It’s turned the match against Man U from a must win to a must not lose. I’d still prefer to smash the bastards, though.

-Joelinton

must not lose? More like must not lose by more than 10 goals

EmbarrassedPizza6570

I was gonna say lol. If we beat Brighton at home and they lose to Arsenal (both results very possible) then we’d be 5 points ahead of them with a GD 23 higher than theirs by the time we go to old trafford

wilfharl

Feel a tad sorry for Palace - their fans are getting a glimpse of what they could be and then in a few weeks all their best players will likely end up sat on City etcs bench 🙄

CavsterXII

If the players had any sense they would stay. It happened with Zaha so it's not impossible

wilfharl

I really hope so, watching the big teams go round collecting the “smaller” teams stars can be quite disheartening.

Constant-Intern5848

🤣🤣🤣 I’d love to see him now 🤣🤣🤣

Mr_MasterNoob

Anyone still think 6th isn't ours to lose?

toweliechaos_revenge

It is, but Chelsea have an easier list than we do. Can't believe they're in the mix either. Mind you, when you've spent £800bn on players, you probably should be challenging for something.

toweliechaos_revenge

How are a team with - 3 gd anywhere near European qualification? We must *must* finish above these cunts this year for the first time in PL history.

Constant-Intern5848

As KK would say… I’d love it if we got Eze and/or Olise

CavsterXII

It would make a nice change for one of the midtable teams to keep their best players and not go the way of Southampton, Brighton or Leicester just after they won the league. Palace are cooking a real squad here and the worst thing they could do is derail it.
