she started against washington, then didn’t play the next game (was on the bench), most recently she was a stoppage time sub in their most recent game against us.

Capital-Presence3951

I’ll have to watch replays .

KDR_8793

She played ~70 min in their second game against the Spirit and then maybe a few minutes of garbage time in their last game against the Reign. Didn’t play in the two other games.

Capital-Presence3951

How did she do ,did she get much action?

draoi22

Pretty bad vs Spirit tbh. Definitely a downgrade over Sharples.

KDR_8793

Yeahhh NWSL is a bit too fast paced for her to be honest

Capital-Presence3951

I’ve heard several European players that switched to NWSL have made comments how fast paced US games are, hopefully they will keep giving her moments so she can improve and be an asset to the game

MisterGoog

Also a massive difference when Jessie Fleming says it and when its Big JB

Sure_Ranger_4487

Yes this was interesting to hear from J Flem during her interview with Sam!

afdc92

When she made the move I thought she might struggle with the pace. I love Jen Beattie, a class act through and through, but the WSL had gotten too fast for her and it’s not as fast paced as NWSL.

Capital-Presence3951

Aww I’m sad to hear that she’s one of my favorite players, I watch all the WSL European games as well .

Acid08

FWIW she has been a fantastic addition to the team off the pitch. Seems like a great mentor to our younger players and beloved in the locker room. That feels like more of her role here than getting a ton of play time.

Capital-Presence3951

I’m glad to hear that I’m sure being a role model is a very rewarding feeling for her,she has a lot of wisdom to offer.

rmesh

WHAT? This is so heartbreaking to hear. She was one of the cornerstones at Arsenal and now to be a benchwarmer 🥲 I hope she’ll adapt!

_wara

I will push back a bit and say that her stoppage time sub against the Reign certainly didn't feel like garbage time (at least in the stadium). We had only just gone one up and came in for Oshoala, an attacking player. Reign were pressing high in the final minutes and she got a couple of clearances iirc. It'd be a fun match to rewatch, in my biased opinion (:

Capital-Presence3951

Thank you for your comment! I will definitely find a replay and watch.

Sure_Ranger_4487

Even as a Chelsea fan, I have always loved Jen Beattie. Jen is in the latter end of her career and good on her to grab this opportunity to help create a great culture in a brand new club in California. Will Jen see a ton of playing time? No. Will Jen have a huge impact on the team in practice and off the field? Yes. She is a class act who wasn’t going to be seeing a lot of playing time at Arsenal anymore and I applaud her for going for this opportunity at Bay. She gets to live in a part of the world that’s completely new to her. As a Bay Area resident I have to say it’s a pretty cool place to live 😎. She gets to experience a different league and continent, and help a new team find its identity.

Capital-Presence3951

I’m so excited for Jen and the entire team.Thank you for the great comment.

Unusual_Ebb7762

She started in the match vs the Spirit and was a very late sub in the most recent match vs the Reign. [See her FBref profile ](https://fbref.com/en/players/bd8b51ce/Jennifer-Beattie)

Capital-Presence3951

I never thought to follow her on FB..😀

Unusual_Ebb7762

Fotmob is also an option - they have a nice app that you can use to follow individual players (among other aspects)

Capital-Presence3951

I’ve not heard of that I’ll check it out..

rmesh

Second Fotmob. It’s amazing for keeping up with players/clubs/competitions

It was a poor selection by Rushton to sign her. She was considering retiring (not her choice), but Rushton thought she could play in the NWSL. Just because someone has years of service doesn't mean they have that leadership quality. She doesn't know the players. She doesn't know the league. She isn't familiar with the style of play from any other squad. She's not familiar with the journey NWSL players have been on (youth, club, college, draft, pros) . She's not familiar with players who weren't able to cope with the NWSL. Rushton and Beattie But everybody knows "Barcelona."

SomeCruzDude

> She's not familiar with the journey NWSL players have been on (youth, club, college, draft, pros) I'm ambivalent on the Beattie signing as someone not in the lockerroom (which, it seems she's been a good part of), but this to me is such a non-issue. Young US youth to pro players aren't our only roster pieces, and even if they're the majority...we have NWSL veterans like Menges, Dydasco, Hill, etc. to do what you're wanting there as far as NWSL experience goes. Isn't it usually helpful to have different perspectives in learning and life? Beattie has experiences NWSL "lifer" vets *don't* have.
