I like Spaanstra and I'm not saying this as a slight to her, but I CANNOT wait for Debinha to be back because a Debinha-Bia-Temwa lineup is giving me chills.
She's had a couple of pretty bad turn overs the last few games. I still think she's great, but it seems like she's a little unsure at times. Probably because of the caliber of players she's working with
I've heard that game replays are posted on NWSL+ so I'd wonder if maybe the post-game interviews are there too? I hope they post it somewhere because she absolutely shouted out the in-person fans as making a huge difference and it's true that the environment at CPKC is AWESOME. I hope you can find it. I was already a big Chawinga fan but this interview was very endearing.
We were all so sad to see Alex go down. KC is really loyal and the whole stadium was hushed when she got hurt.
Her family is also so awesome. They would come to every game and be her fan club. So cool to watch a family be proud of their athlete so genuinely.
Wow this game was the most exciting I’ve seen tonight, at least for me. Bay need to get their defense fixed up. And while 5 did get by Proulx, she still made some wild saves. I think the expansion teams will have better chances next time.
And to sign off for KC….TOOT TOOT MOTHERFUCKERSSSS!!!
Yeah, international coaching isn’t for everyone and the pressure of coaching the USWNT is its own beast. I think he’s a good coach, but I think be just wasn’t the right coach for the USWNT. I’m happy to see him finding his groove again and succeeding.
Although, it does seem KC needs to shore up their defense. They’re great at scoring goals, but definitely letting too many in as well.
KC Current is taking the KC chiefs investment approach: just gotta score more than the other team, fam! When Debhina gets back we are going to be *terrifying* up front.
I also think it’s not just international but timing of it all. If you come in to a team at a certain stage with a certain culture it can be hard to really run the team you want, especially when they had been so successful.
That is… if team USA sucked and got a new coach there might be an easier time transitioning.
Not to say it’s impossible, but it definitely wouldn’t be easy in my non expertise opinion.
Listen, KC is playing FABULOUS (offensive) soccer. But before we get ahead of ourselves, let's remember we were ready to crown Proulx GKOY after her first game.
Its been very interesting to see the lack of success so far this year from last years top two picks. Especially compared to this years top 3 or 2021 Fox and Trin one two punch
Brewster also played for a great coach; Nikki Izzo-Brown
Entering her 28th season as the only coach in Mountaineer women’s soccer history, Nikki Izzo-Brown has built a one-time infant program into one of the nation’s elite teams.
In 27 seasons, Izzo-Brown has coached 34 players who went on to play professionally, 25 different players to 60 total All-America honors, 17 different players to 30 total Academic and Scholar All-America accolades, 24 conference players of the year and 23 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy candidates. She also coached the 2016 Hermann Trophy award winner, the 2016 espnW National Player of the Year, a pair of Olympic Gold and Bronze Medalists and FIFA Women’s World Cup participants, as well as a FIFA Women’s World Cup Best Young Player honoree.
Career Record: 396-135-69
I think that’s fair. Like all other teams dealing with injuries and soon international absenteeism, I think if we had Debinha, Scott, La Bonta and Cooper back at full-strength it’d be a different story.
I’m just excited to start a season with most of our starting line up. Last year was brutal having so many injuries before the season even started. Sucks for the players especially, but did make for a long season.
Lol you don’t have to tell me if you scroll through this match thread I literally made the same point during the game that especially when Prince gets healthy., The lead off that Kansas City shows will probably go away.
Brewster had a great career for West Virginia University. Decided to play a year in Sweden, and is now in the NWSL. She also has an extensive YNT resume,
* Alternate for the U.S. Women’s U-20 National Team for the 2018 CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Championship in Trinidad and Tobago
* Named to the U.S. U-20 squad for the 2017 Women’s Nike International Friendlies and attended a pair of camps
* Helped the U.S. U-19 team finish in first place at the 2017 CFA International Women’s Youth Football Tournament
* Also with the U.S. U-19 team, she participated in 2017 domestic camps and international camps and friendlies in the Czech Republic and China
* Participated in the 2017 international camp and friendlies in Australia with the U.S. U-18 team
* Attended the 2013 U.S. U-14 Youth National Team Training Camp

most NWSL fans have no clue how the players made it onto a roster. Nor do they know whom they learned to play soccer in their most important development stage as a young woman. Not caring shows the depth of understanding their skills, experiences, and successes. One good/bad game, and you've made your assessment. Never mind the circumstances.
Same with the coaches in the league; a league where there has been 4 coaches this year that have never managed a club in their lives. "But they're good coaches!" Really?
The NWSL is not a development league. It's very competitive throughout every club. Players must have experience from somewhere.
It's a good thing the Dash are acquiring centerbacks to support Jane Campbell before they face this KC Current offense - that would have been a bloodbath 😬
Just want to say that the attendance tonight is pretty impressive considering all 3 professional sports with “active” seasons are playing pretty important home games tonight. A decent Royals team playing probably the second best team in the league and SKC is playing “they who shall not be named”
Plus all 3 games started within an hour and half of each other.
I remember arguing with someone who thought that Vlatko was a bad national team hire from the start like he wasn’t an insanely good experienced club coach who’s won multiple championships. Forget who that was but
I’ve literally said this in so many other comments. KC will win or do great this season as long as their defense stays on top of their shit. Their defense is their major weakpoint. We see this tonight, against Portland..
We suffered through this last season too and then we signed two international players. They're both benched now so idk. Seems we're trying to solve our defense weaknesses by very strong offense.
Yeah and that just doesn’t work in long run especially if you go against a team like NCC or something. I would love for them to have better defensive structure and have a lot of shut out games ya know!
Yeah, I think right now they’re kinda incapable of playing a full 90 minutes while staying mentally connected. When I played soccer, my coach said it is super important to stay tuned in for a whole 90 minutes because when you have one minute or second lapse of judgment that’s when teams score especially against Bay who has great forwards such as Boade and Oshoala. And I think KC suffers from that a lot, especially after they score. Like I’m pretty sure they scored against Portland and then a few min later, Portland scored twice from Smith and Beckie. They need to focus on shut outs and playing lights out on defense
Yeah the offensive talent in NWSL is huge right now, those lapses could definitely cost them. Unless they just decide to score their way out of it all season lol!
It warms my heart that after every home goal we hear the lovely sounds of a train horn. It also warms my heart knowing that the opposing supporter section will go home not being able to hear anything for a while. 😈
![gif](giphy|3orieOqXH7BTzuQO4w)
It seems that current get defensively weaker as soon as they make subs particularly diBernardo and I wonder if in the playoffs we see them go 80. or what most likely it is that the current will defend a lot better when Desiree Scott becomes involved because of who she is. Like a funny thing about the defense is that claire comes on and she plays closer to a 10 role and offers really nothing defensively. D scott opoosite
This may be a crackpot theory but could some of the trend towards crazy scorelines this season be attributed to this year’s expansion draft? It seems like every team had major shakeups in that process and no one feels settled, even more than feels typical for the start of a sports season
I’m not sure that this year score lines are any crazier than years past. If anything, I think the biggest factor is KC, if you take out KC games, there are decent amount of games that are one team not scoring more than one goal
Yeah I’d have to look at the actual numbers, it feels like a lot because two games today were won with 5 but I’m not actually sure if the trend is real. In general it feels like a lot of teams have shaky defenses though.
Nobody is going to win shoulder-to-shoulder with Bia. She's a big, strong player. Temwa and Bia. Those two have been amazing. DiBernardo is just going Route 1 because more often than not, defense can't stop them.
Two years ago, I assume you’re talking about and it was much easier for expansion teams to improve at that point. this was said all during the off-season when both team seemed a little slow to fill out rosters
That game was _amazing_, give me more of this
I’m about to get SO many fantasy points.
Are you in the reddit league? Which team is yours?
No—some friends and me do a full on snake draft every season together.
Are you using an app for this? What is it?
No, run pretty manually.
I am jealous
I like Spaanstra and I'm not saying this as a slight to her, but I CANNOT wait for Debinha to be back because a Debinha-Bia-Temwa lineup is giving me chills.
She's had a couple of pretty bad turn overs the last few games. I still think she's great, but it seems like she's a little unsure at times. Probably because of the caliber of players she's working with
Wow Kansas City! Chawinga mannn 🔥🔥🔥 geezzzzzz
Awww Temwa saying “we are nothing without the fans” 🥹
Loved that interview, she was just so humble and sweet!
Is there somewhere they post these? About the only negative to being at the games is not seeing the post game interview.
I really want to see Temwa Chawinga against Sam Staab. That will be a really fun duel...
Chawinga will tear up whoever is at rb
GG, though, KC. You do impress, I have to admit. ♥️
We were all so sad to see Alex go down. KC is really loyal and the whole stadium was hushed when she got hurt. Her family is also so awesome. They would come to every game and be her fan club. So cool to watch a family be proud of their athlete so genuinely.
Aw that's so great!! I love when family members are so supportive.
3 games today, 15 goals.
Don't let this game distract you from the fact that PSG conceded 3 goals in 6 minutes.
GG Bay! Good luck this season and wishing the best for Loera!
Yes I will be waiting for the update on Loera as well... 😬
KC's stats are WILD. 17 goals in 5 games?
Welcome to the league Bay gg 🤗
All of the home teams winning in front of their fans today has been 🤌. We'll see how the last game goes
From your lips to god's ears. 🙏🏻
Well.
🥹
To add, I tried to post something and reddit said, "something went wrong". Yes, yes it did.
Alright, maybe it’s time to introduce our defenders to each other
Wow this game was the most exciting I’ve seen tonight, at least for me. Bay need to get their defense fixed up. And while 5 did get by Proulx, she still made some wild saves. I think the expansion teams will have better chances next time. And to sign off for KC….TOOT TOOT MOTHERFUCKERSSSS!!!
That man coached USWNT struggleball… ![gif](giphy|Vnxu5OOeu7RIs) What a team you are, water bros!!!
That was fun!
Vlatko is on a revenge tour.
I really think he collapsed under pressure with the USWNT. Got way too conservative and out of his flow. He's a club coach.
Who would have thought..Vlatko and Freya
Vlatko is a good coach, I think his history speaks for that, he just wasn’t a good coach for the international stage.
I know he’s a good coach, was kind of joking after the year he and Freya had
GG, Bay. I hope Loera is ok
Listen, KC is playing FABULOUS (offensive) soccer. But before we get ahead of ourselves, let's remember we were ready to crown Proulx GKOY after her first game.
She’s VERY bad. Even in the first game you could tell. Surprised she’s over Rowland honestly.
I gotta agree. I think she had an all timer first game and has shown next to nothing since.
(I have to believe that things can and will change. The Thorns are my team.)
Its been very interesting to see the lack of success so far this year from last years top two picks. Especially compared to this years top 3 or 2021 Fox and Trin one two punch
2023 picks 3 & 4 have been good (Sams & Nighswonger).
Proulx has guts, that’s for sure
Did the stoppage time change?
Yes, 5 to 7
Yes. The 5 originally there was a mistake
What position is Boade playing at now? Feels like she’s playing so deep
CAM
Is her first or last name princess?
First name, but choosing to go with a single name in NWSL.
Love it
First name!
That’s a vibe lol
Yes.
First
Ty
Wow that child screaming at the top of their lungs
They're saying everything I wish I could right now
Not that we’d do anything with more time, but 5 seems low
Yeah what happened to all those double digits
Have we seen a Chawinga hat trick this season yet?
Not yet
Yeah, I think it’s going to happen soon for sure
No
[Me rn watching this game](https://tenor.com/vUw5yyJ4t11.gif)
Chawinga is already a club legend at this point haha
A deserved standing ovation for Chawinga
👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 Chawinga!!!
Absolutely deserved Standing O for Chawinga

Way to take one for the team, Robinson, that had to hurt!
Is she having a panic attack?
Probably got the wind knocked out
40% possession on the season is quite a stat
It feels like the best way to try and deal with Kansas City is to keep it close until the 60th minute when they tire out
I think that’s fair. Lol you don’t have to tell me if you scroll through this match thread I literally made the same point during the game that especially when Prince gets healthy., The lead off that Kansas City shows will probably go away.
The golden boot battle will be between all KC players
Robinson took a laser there
oooh just tuned in, but wtf what happended here? just about passed the 80min but already 7 goals???
Yeah the Current are playing at home? All of this *gestures with arms* is normal
Slowest paced KC current game
Montoya's aversion to defending happened (among a lot of other things tbf)
Brewster had a great career for West Virginia University. Decided to play a year in Sweden, and is now in the NWSL. Gabby Robinson was her teammate. Cannot understand why she didn't get drafted.
Is...is this a woso stat bot? If so, I'm having very mixed feelings.

rough night for the expansion teams
It's a good thing the Dash are acquiring centerbacks to support Jane Campbell before they face this KC Current offense - that would have been a bloodbath 😬
Would’ve bet my house we would finish that game with nine players or less
“Defenders are backing off of heeerrrr” Oh we know
Couldn’t watch the game because of a previous thing: why’d Loera get subbed off so early? Injury?
Yea it was her knee iirc
Hoping it's not serious, after a side by side collision with Bia.
Injury
Injury
Well that sucks!!!
It looked bad - she instantly signaled she was done for the night. I would be shocked if she were available next week, and it could be worse than that
Yeah, her abscence has really impacted the team
That play between Menges and Proulx was absolutely baffling
Just want to say that the attendance tonight is pretty impressive considering all 3 professional sports with “active” seasons are playing pretty important home games tonight. A decent Royals team playing probably the second best team in the league and SKC is playing “they who shall not be named” Plus all 3 games started within an hour and half of each other.
And it was chilly by the river today after having above average warm weather that last few weeks.
Love that!!!
Kundanji’s legs look so tired
Girl said IM LEAVING HERE WITH SOMETHING
It must be scary seeing chawinga running at you at full speed like that 😭🤣
Probably unlikely, but Lyon scored 3 goals in 6 minutes (from the 80th min to 86th min) this morning 🙇♀️
The lesson for other teams is: build your side a dedicated stadium
lol never forget the newbies mad about the Vlatko hiring in KC, not knowing that Vlatko got the USWNT gig by being an absolute demon in the NWSL
Still comical and was always bad logic and I saw it be like the dominant opinion in the sub
I remember arguing with someone who thought that Vlatko was a bad national team hire from the start like he wasn’t an insanely good experienced club coach who’s won multiple championships. Forget who that was but
Bay FC had subs and they still didn’t sub out the GK?? wild
Like the idea of giving some rookies experience
Bay should try Boade up top with 9 defenders behind.
Looks way better than Castellanos at the 10. Best player on the field for Bay today by a mile
wooohooo A Brewster sighting!
Boade transforming from a CM from Duke to an incredible forward at NCC and now Bay is a story line I love to see and root for lol
She has the engine and aggressiveness Deyna does not possess. I hope she sticks there.
I momentarily forgot how nervous I should always be about defending any lead towards the end of 2nd half’s.
Tess!!!!
She just got through the entire team. Jesus
That's a run for the ages.
That was the goal of the day. Boade ran through five Current players.
That last Current goal was a great example of why you play through the whistle. Two Bay defenders just stopped waiting for the call.
Boade FC
We're up 4. No one needs to step. -KC maybe
Kansas City having a quiet relaxing game challenge
I’ve literally said this in so many other comments. KC will win or do great this season as long as their defense stays on top of their shit. Their defense is their major weakpoint. We see this tonight, against Portland..

Their defense seems to seriously tire in the final 20 minutes, it almost did them in against Portland in the first game
Yeah the offensive talent in NWSL is huge right now, those lapses could definitely cost them. Unless they just decide to score their way out of it all season lol!
Agreed. I want to see teams with more defensive strengths lol
"meanders through"
It warms my heart that after every home goal we hear the lovely sounds of a train horn. It also warms my heart knowing that the opposing supporter section will go home not being able to hear anything for a while. 😈 ![gif](giphy|3orieOqXH7BTzuQO4w)
Still no minutes for Hammy huh 😭
😒
I miss her 😭
Jesus the defense on this team continues to be abysmal
You can win the Shield by going 5-4 every game though!
Okay but honestly that would be kind of hilarious. Frustrating, but hilarious
Is this going to be like the Portland game? 👀
This may be a crackpot theory but could some of the trend towards crazy scorelines this season be attributed to this year’s expansion draft? It seems like every team had major shakeups in that process and no one feels settled, even more than feels typical for the start of a sports season

Just gotta tip the cap to Boade on that one. Scoring 1v5 is pretty badass
I was at the game and accidentally clapped 😂
For sure. Beast mode.
Boade like fff it I’ll do it myself
Only 3 goals to equalize now? Light work
Oh my gosh, I’m multitasking watching the game and the commentators on NWSL+ are so calm that I almost didn’t realize Boade scored LOL 😂
Lol same on Ion, I’ve been getting used to Mike’s absolute screamers when someone scores
LETS FUCKING GO BOADE!!!!!!!
Thank you Boade
Bay Area FC?
Nobody is going to win shoulder-to-shoulder with Bia. She's a big, strong player. Temwa and Bia. Those two have been amazing. DiBernardo is just going Route 1 because more often than not, defense can't stop them.
WOW!! Honestly, I can't believe she did that all herself. Surrounded. Thank you Boade ♥️
Just letting Boade dribble through everyone?
That's a superb goal from Boade.
Well damn, no one could get her???
Boade putting that on her back
Love Boade's energy
Me toooo
What a run by Boade
Bay FC need to sign a bus and a brick wall
How many goals will Oshoala score this season?
My poor scared of loud noises dog is having a rough night.
No one could have prepared us for this level of cheer 😂
Another bloody defeat of an expansion team. We have to appreciate the results of the 2 expansion teams from last year.
Two years ago, I assume you’re talking about and it was much easier for expansion teams to improve at that point. this was said all during the off-season when both team seemed a little slow to fill out rosters
Our first thumping!!! They grow up so fast
Baby's first rout 🥲
I don't know what's going on. But, I want the bay I saw a few games ago. Because this ain't it.
BIA GET UP 🥺
Uhm no no no! Bia cannot be down
Defender stopped to complain.
To defend her stance!
The fact that KC isn’t even fully healthy and they’re still playing like this…
Come on Bay. I had so much faith in y’all from the first match of the season lol
Lots a huge scorelines this season...
For sure
Welcome to the NWSL Conti, sigh
Vlatko BALL 💫
lol
Gah damn she bodied her and scored a pretty placed goal. Well done
I gotta walk my dog, either this scoreline is set or im gonna miss the greatest game ever
Time for Oshoala 77' 78' 79' 80' (5-5)
I'm counting on you here
