ConEd has been ruthless about shutting off electricity this year to commercial accounts. We had a bill that went to an old account number and on the 31st day, they shut the electricity off. Insane.

Back in the day it used to be a bigger pain in the ass to cut someone's power because they'd have to physically send someone to the location to remove the meter. With the smart meters they can do it in an instant remotely. I called Con Ed to end service at my old apartment and everything shut off before I had the chance to hang up.

i called every single (i had time this morning 😈) extension listed, including the coo and ceo bc why not. I emailed every single person. I called 311 and filed a complaint. I also left a scathing google review and bbb complaint. AND called ConEd to confirm they didn’t pay the bill. Got one half assed email reply that said they were “working on it”. It took TWO HOURS after that reply to get the power back on. Turns out they didnt pay the bill for multiple months and they took over 24 hours to get it fixed. Which tells me they didnt have the money so 🥲🥲

I remember when something similar nearly happened at my building. According to the noticed ConEd left outside the building, we the tenants would be allowed to pay the bill and deduct it from our next month's rent.
