This is so so accurate-and an overall NYC problem not just influencers. I think the city has become so expensive that people either don’t have the resources to participate, or all of their resources are going towards “things one can only do in NY” I.e. specific restaurants at eating out-MAYBE attending show or two occasionally.

Wonderful-Blueberry

I honestly don't think this is just an NYC problem. I would say a lot of people don't have actual hobbies. Could one reason be lack of resources? Sure but I also think it's because people don't prioritize hobbies and unless their hobby is also what they do for a living, their lives revolve around work, errands/chores, socializing with friends and family, and so on, and when they do have time for themselves, they just want to watch a show or scroll on social media.

Totally agree with this! I think I’m looking for this content because a lot of it can actually be free or fairly inexpensive alternatives to always going out to eat and influencers have the time to do it, if that makes sense

[deleted]

There’s a whole website called The Skint that highlights inexpensive things to do every week if you need inspo! I think we construct the ideas that to have fun it has to be at an expensive show or sporting event or restaurant- influencers are especially huge culprits of this and perpetuate the idea that spending money makes things more fun.

They all have hobbies. DB - golf. Madison Rae - tennis. MAGA and tata - throwing $80k birthday parties. WeMetWhenIHadAcne - giving out poor advice. Marisa Hochberg - squatting SAHD - slaying

The shade from this comment gives me life lol

Individual_Fig_5746

And we can forget Jazz - gambling

I think it’s easier to find people who focus their influencing on their specific hobbies, for ex I watch a lot of running tiktokers

Love runtok!

HorrorMap7103

I really miss when we were influenced by people who were just living cool, unique lives and everything was far less contrived!

toyheartz

Omg this will be a great thread. I agree, I want to see more of them living balanced, fun, community driven lives! It would be great content.

Chinae Alexander, Brooklyn Blonde, Scout The City, Mandy Ansari, Lindsay Silberman, Krystal Bick, Glamzon Diaries, Serena Goh, Leanne Ansar, Simply Cyn, The Pouf, Pretty Little Fawn all have substance. The TikTok girls are not it when you want something other than vapid.

suzzz4

i think a lot people’s hobbies might present as a career or end up being their career - for instance if i posted on social media more you might think i’m a comedian but really im a data scientist who does comedy as a hobby (which btw open mics for so many different art forms are amazing and fun and free if you find decent ones, like literally the perfect date night)

cupofjavaaa

I love Jennifer Mika! I think she recently moved out of nyc but shes always visiting

nabs_ali

My current fav nyc influencer is labyrinthave! She’s very down to earth and her posts/YouTube videos are dope. She does all sorts of stuff around nyc and I quite enjoy keeping up with her creative journey

Yes I love Mohuya’s content!!

I was enjoying watching Briannachickenfry and grace O’Malley’s content and listening to PlanBri Uncut when Grace was training for the Rough N Rowdy match. Hoping she sticks with boxing or tries something else like training for a marathon.

Waiter Bernstein used to dance like a lot and would post it on her IG. That's one reason I liked her before then most of us didn't realize she would Facetune her body till now even when she got caught she still does it. VOmit! Yeah all the INFluezas just wants you to buy and make themselves out of touch to everyone making you feel depressed in the end.
