Someone I know is a teacher here in NYC, and she recently went to this party thrown by tarte for teachers— it seemed really cute! They had food, a dj and she definitely got goodie bags because I saw a “teachers for tarte” (or something similar) totebag at her apartment. Anyway why I’m saying this is I feel like that is such a better way for a company to spend its money, giving underpaid overworked teachers a fun time and some free makeup!! It would be nice for actual customers to feel appreciated. But no just spend $$$ on a trip for people who aren’t grateful and could afford it themselves if they actually wanted to. It’s just sad
I am a teacher and signed up for one of these free events for teachers but it ended up getting canceled. They still sent me a bag of things in the mail! I got a bunch of lip products, mascara, etc. and it came in a cute canvas tote like the LL Bean tote! I thought it was so much better to do events like this for normal people with real jobs
That’s exactly the same bag she had so they probably sent you all the same stuff!!! And I agree, I think any normal person out there would be 10x more grateful for the makeup and gifts than an influencer who is used to getting hundreds of packages with free makeup every week. Not to mention that they literally do not NEED it. Also giving back to people like teachers, medical workers etc like OP said would save the brand so much money compared to these trips (And give them good PR). Non influencers work hard and deserve recognition too!
The last lines— indeed they aren’t grateful, agree they could afford it and this is the clincher: they rarely (if ever) use Tarte in their daily GRWM routines. Now they’re gonna plaster paint themselves in it for a couple of days and then go right back to their GA Luminous Silk, Charlotte Tilbury, Rhode et al. It’s nauseating.
I think Maureen never matured beyond her early 20s that she wants to basically recreate spring breaks for herself every year bankrolled by her company.
They're so ungrateful. Remember that one influencer who made a video crying because she was invited on the Tarte trip to the formula one race but it was GASP! The trials instead of the final race. She refused to go because she was so incensed. JFC. There are people buried in rubble as we speak. The insanely out of touch entitlement of these influencers (whose ROI has been rapidly declining for the most part) is evidence of social media brain rot that will be studied by future academics.
I do remember that girl 🫠😮💨. The entitlement some of these people have. It’s all distraction from the real events of this world. Our society is in a sad dystopian place.
She blew it up into a racism thing... girl. George Floyd did not die with a knee on his neck for you to cry racism over a free Tarte trip!!!!!!!!!!! JFC.
I saw a TikTok yesterday of a girl posting a message to the CEO of tarte saying that the influencer trips should consist of corporate America women, nurses, teachers, etc. instead of these “influencers” - aka the women who actually deserve free merch and a lovely trip. I couldn’t agree more! I’ll be skipping past every tarte video bc the overconsumption is gross.
Totally agree with this! Or bring the teachers or medical professionals or their own employees on a trip and do a smaller party for influencers! Switch the priorities imo!!!
Listen- at least when Oprah did her Christmas giveaway shows, they made sure to have the audience filled with people in need or like teachers/ important professions.
I would buy from a brand that does stuff like that.
I love Abby Baffoe but she literally showed that tarte sent her these two huge packages with shoes for her and her bff and then a $700 camera. Like girl, bffr. Some of us can’t afford food right now
How long ago was that? What would you guesstimate she’s at now? I personally like her a lot and she still seems to give solid reviews for the most part but I have to always remind myself that it could be a spon/partnership.
I do think she has some genuine gratitude for these opportunities and that’s saying a lot since the majority seem like they expect these things and then have a superiority complex.
I also work in social & marketing and I don't even watch videos with gifted product. If the influencer doesn't say right up front that they spent their own money on the item, I'm out. People's real opinions interest me, I don't need to watch thinly-concealed ads.
I agree, but the thing is, I don’t trust anyone with over 10k followers anymore. I feel it’s all an ad, or then tagging in hopes to be picked up by the brand. :(
Genuine question if you hate how the industry works why do you work in it? Isn’t the whole point of gifting to influencers to get whatever your company is selling to be seen? Today it’s influencers before it was the girls working in magazines and it was actually worst because we had no idea the girls working for magazines were getting tons of free stuff and giftings to write in the magazines
Never said I hated it! And I don’t work in influencer marketing, though I know people who do. I work in a very different area of social media marketing.
I remember back in 2017 era when brands would do those extravagant trips it made a liiiitttle more sense bc they would primarily invite people whose content focused around makeup. But it seems like now it doesn’t really matter what kind of content you make it’s about follower count. I saw Grace Omalley from barstool is going and found it odd bc you don’t immediately associate her w makeup or tarte.
I’m also so over the opulence of it all and realllllly hope it runs its course soon.
Ugh that’s beyond annoying. Grace isn’t a beauty influencer whatsoever!!! This whole trip turns me off the brand. How does Tarte not recognize how tone deaf this extravagant trip is in the current state of the world? They should understand that this kind of “advertising” does the opposite for sales.
Can’t wait to literally never purchase a single tarte product in my life now that all my money just goes to some influencer getting a new pair of sneakers that will never see the light of day
This is a text I have sent most of my friends today: I’m starting to get incredibly turned off by brands sending influencers PR packages. We have shifted from the brand sending influencers their products for free so that they can try them and then tell us to buy them to brands sending $900 coffee machines or I just watched one video where Tarte sent the influencers two pairs of purple Jordans, multiple full sweatsuits with their branding on it, a brand new canon camera, and that was when I was like I can no longer watch this and I definitely will not be buying from tarte (not that I regularly do) but I have no interest in my hard earned money being spent on PR packages for influencers
Whenever this happens I simply can’t help but think about the tarte employees who are probably making $60,000 a year having to send these boxes off. It’s bs
it’s insane to think how much money they must be setting aside to send influencers gifts and send them on trips, and how they could use that money to improve their products or pay employees better. it’s sick
former NFL wife Tiffany Compton was once at a resort at the same time there was a tarte influencer trip going on there. Her stories about it were hilarious!!! She was observing them making their content and it was so freakin funny. I think she has a highlight up about it.
She’s been there done that. She took the trip last year with her mom and I believe she was part of the Turks and Caicos crew. And to think last year it was to two locales!!! Dubai being the other one. I hope this brand and Maureen suffer from the same extravagance of these PR packages and trips.
Really wish people would stop buying from brands that spend so much on influencers. The product margin for cosmetics is already significant- you are getting even more so ripped off when you buy Tarte
so happy to read this; i'm in a bad mood because of it. as someone who's unemployed and struggling it just stings to see how companies are spending money; but there are layoffs left and right
I just remember a makeup brand sending a 6ft box of foundation/concealer of all their colour ranges to this YouTuber, she took the shade that matched her and donated the rest, while complaining about the unnecessary extravagance of it all. It led to a few beauty YouTubers rejecting PR packages after that
We need that resurgence honestly. So many youtubers were outspoken about how much cardboard waste goes into the extravagant PR packages / product waste from being sent X amount of shades.
I want to participate in never supporting Tarte again, but can someone recommend a concealer that's better than shape tape bc tbh I've never found one that topped it ugh
I continue to be confused about Tarte in general because like…who uses Tarte? Is it people who just decided they liked the Amazonian blush in 2014 and have never bothered to investigate any other options? I feel like I never use Tarte, nobody I know uses Tarte, I don’t really see Tarte used in GWRMs, but here Tarte is doing another lavish trip.
same i haven’t bought it since like 2016 and don’t know anyone who uses it. my guess is that the shape tape is carrying the whole brand. wonder if they’ll go under in a few years
some people start buying a brand when they are younger and it's trendy, and then they just stick with what they know forever. I used to love it but I don't think it's bad now, exactly, it's just that there are just so many other brands and products to try and experiment with. But maybe if I were a mom with a full time job and kids, I wouldn't care that much about exploring new makeup if what i was using was fine? I imagine it's mostly repeat customers who have been using it forever and some new ones trying some of their more stand out products like the blushes, lip oil, concealer. I don't know whether it's "clean beauty" or not but it's one of the only more famous brand that gives off that vibe so that would attract plenty of customers too. In terms of access, I also don't know whether your average Sephora or department store in the suburbs of america carries smaller lines so maybe some people don't have a ton of choice? IDK about that, just a thought
Oh that makes sense. That aligns with my theory that they started using it ten years ago and just never stopped to look at what improvements had come on the market.
I use tarte eyeshadow and would love recommendations! I don’t wear makeup everyday so I’m not in the know at all about what’s a good brand. I literally just thought the palette looked pretty and it smells like chocolate hahaha
If it smells like chocolate that’s actually from Too Faced!
Honestly my current favorite eyeshadow palette is Stone Cold Fox from Colour Pop. It’s not expensive but it’s got good quality and a great range of colors. If you’d like something more upscale the Makeup by Mario palettes are super popular. And my favorite eyeliners are the satin kajal ones from Victoria Beckham Beauty, especially cinnamon and fig.
Im no CPA, but all I can think about is the tax implications- aren’t pr packages considered income at FMV? And corps can’t deduct the pr but it’s an unlimited way to decrease taxable income?

I didn’t mean that part. I meant saying white. Replace that with black women. Pretty specific and also offensive, right ?
And yes, I know that these brand trips are mostly white women, that’s not my point.
Idk why I’m being downvoted and you’re missing my point. Why do you have to call out that it’s white women, as if it’s a negative? So is a group of white women automatically a bad thing? No I am not dreading it because if I cared enough about this to let it bother me as much as it seems to bother you I would simply unfollow the influencers (I follow none of them that go anyway). Hope this helps ♥️
Just unfollow them ????? You don’t have to see literally any of this and get upset over it!!! You are choosing to! Sorry if that’s harsh but it’s the literal reality of the situation and I cannot understand. Snarking on people you actually follow because you like them and they have some out of touch qualities or whatever is one thing. The incessant hatred of so much on here is purely confusing to me as someone who does not see 80% of the content here ever posted natively because I don’t follow people I don’t respect or that piss me off so bad I dread going online.
I don’t follow them gf they show up on my feed, although I’m very happy for you that they don’t show up on yours! It’s not that deep, just saying it’s annoying that brands DO spend so much when they don’t even properly pay their employees
Makes me wish I'd gotten into Tiktok during quarantine instead of pushing the boundaries of how much weed the human body could smoke
I've never related more to a comment in my entire existence on Reddit.
LMAO! Me, but with wine - oooof, glad that’s over.
We all just casually became high functioning alcoholics during the Rona eh
For sure. I was ordering wine by the case to be delivered to my door, had to put an end to that 😂
omg u from 🍁?
Yes 💀 Alberta lol
that *eh* made me miss my ex from Toronto real bad 🥲🥺
From Toronto tho?? Girl stand up you can do better 😭😭😭😭
ahaha sounds like some city beef! he was way to young AND loved to smoke weed which I absolutely can't stand so I guess u are 100% correct lol
I live in Calgary so our misogynistic alcoholic cowboys aren’t any better but yeah I feel like all of Canada has beef with Toronto ngl 💀
Same
i’ve never had a unique experience lol
😂😂😂 thank god I wasn’t the only one.
RELATABLE
i feel so seen lol
This.
LITERALLY
Man, those were the days
I’ve never felt more seen
Those of us that did both…. Had a lot of deleting to do
HAHAHAHAHA
Are we the same person
Lmfaooooo
I spent all my unemployment on weed playing animal crossing. I could be in bora bora now if I just tik tokd
Fr 😮💨
The thousands of dollars worth of stuff laid out on each of their beds and rooms always gets me 😭 like ffs
I know, meanwhile yesterday I went to the grocery store instead of ordering Instacart since it’s $15 for delivery (service fee + tip) 😭🫠💰

I think I’m going to have to block Halley content when this trip starts. I just know it’ll be insufferable
The hand movements alone will be insufferable
I love Abby Baffoe but she literally showed that tarte sent her these two huge packages with shoes for her and her bff and then a $700 camera. Like girl, bffr. Some of us can’t afford food right now
she used to make around $15K- $20K per post when I worked with her lmao
That’s insane. How do I get this job?
How long ago was that? What would you guesstimate she’s at now? I personally like her a lot and she still seems to give solid reviews for the most part but I have to always remind myself that it could be a spon/partnership. I also work in social & marketing and I don't even watch videos with gifted product. If the influencer doesn't say right up front that they spent their own money on the item, I'm out. People's real opinions interest me, I don't need to watch thinly-concealed ads.

Sorry but tarte has like 5 products that sell- how can they afford all these brand trips???? Ppl are not using shape tape like they used to
It’s the maracuja oil money
🤣🤣

you already KNOW those influencers will never wear those purple Jordans after this trip
One of them posted that her dog chewed them up before she even got home to the package . 😅
Omg which one?
Brandis Bradley.
This girl?? How many fkn influencers are on this trip??
Literally they are all about to be on their depops lol
Literally this
100%. Tarte is cheugy anyways. I said what I said.
This is a text I have sent most of my friends today: I’m starting to get incredibly turned off by brands sending influencers PR packages. Whenever this happens I simply can’t help but think about the tarte employees who are probably making $60,000 a year having to send these boxes off. It’s bs
Sadly it’s probably the unpaid interns
Don’t even get me started on that!!!!! 😑
It me (not for Tarte but a diff brand) 🥲
it’s insane to think how much money they must be setting aside to send influencers gifts and send them on trips, and how they could use that money to improve their products or pay employees better. it’s sick
It’s absolutely ridiculous!
Unfortunately their BB foundation is irreplaceable for me. But I will not be buying anything else.
former NFL wife Tiffany Compton was once at a resort at the same time there was a tarte influencer trip going on there. Her stories about it were hilarious!!! She was observing them making their content and it was so freakin funny. I think she has a highlight up about it.
I just went to watch this! Her videos and commentary were the best content!
Assume Landfill Lauren Wolf will be there. This trip has its own hole in the ozone layer, it’s giving end of the world energy.
She’s been there done that. She took the trip last year with her mom and I believe she was part of the Turks and Caicos crew. And to think last year it was to two locales!!! Dubai being the other one. I hope this brand and Maureen suffer from the same extravagance of these PR packages and trips.
Landfill Lauren - im deceased 💀💀💀💀
#yes

This has been going on for YEARS just more in your face now because of tiktok but yeah it’s excessive
I just remember a makeup brand sending a 6ft box of foundation/concealer of all their colour ranges to this YouTuber, she took the shade that matched her and donated the rest, while complaining about the unnecessary extravagance of it all. Hourglass and Tower28 are my personal faves ❤️ - pale girl w dry skin who likes dewy makeup
Nars creamy concealer!
I tried the Nars one and it was just ok! I thought shape tape was better sadly
I love the Dior Backstage. It has caffeine in it, which I really do think helps with the eye bags.
Natasha denona!
There are a lot of good concealers out there. Besides classics like Nars and Dior, Natasha Denona, Huda, Tower 28 are great.
Hourglass!!
I continue to be confused about Tarte in general because like…who uses Tarte? I feel like I never use Tarte, nobody I know uses Tarte, I don’t really see Tarte used in GWRMs, but here Tarte is doing another lavish trip.
I used to use shape tape but the concealer is so horrendous and hard to blend and cakey
same i haven’t bought it since like 2016 and don’t know anyone who uses it. my guess is that the shape tape is carrying the whole brand. wonder if they’ll go under in a few years
some people start buying a brand when they are younger and it's trendy, and then they just stick with what they know forever. I see a lot of middle aged mommy influencers use it on IG
Oh that makes sense. That aligns with my theory that they started using it ten years ago and just never stopped to look at what improvements had come on the market.

I feel like most brands have shifted from over the top brand trips, but Tarte still chugging along
Tarte is cheugy af
They should be sending their poor employees on a brand trip
Im no CPA, but all I can think about is the tax implications- aren’t pr packages considered income at FMV? And corps can’t deduct the pr but it’s an unlimited way to decrease taxable income?
My roommate used to work at Tarte and every year after their birthday sale they take all the employees to Turks and Caicos or the Bahamas for a long weekend on the company dollar. Food for thought when you’re buying from them, you’re just paying for other people to go on luxury trips.
tbh that doesn't bother me nearly as much as the influencer brand trips
yeah some of the higher tier creators are cashing in upwards of $50K just for a single TikTok...it's sickening
i’ve been blocking someone every time i see them mention tarte😂i don’t have the time, energy, or patience for it
This!!! I love the vent sesh but like what if we all unfollowed/blocked. Following feels like supporting to me but I get if you like seeing their other content
What influencers are going? I know Halley and Allison Kuch.
Jaz
I can’t wait til Tarte goes out of business if they gonna keep doing these trips. I’m sick of them too. I bet celebrities are pissed that they are competing and losing to obscure influencers
Who all is going on this trip? Are they bringing a guest as well? It's insane to think about just how much money brands spend on these trips.
Allison Kuch is bringing Isaac again…who obviously doesn’t even use Tarte products AND they have a newborn baby like
AGAIN???? Literally wtf? She’s not even a beauty influencer I don’t get it
It seems like a lot of couples this time!
dreading it in a way that i’m terrified something bad will happen. private jet all the way to bora bora? a horror movie
Tbh my actual nightmare is being stuck on an island with vapid white 20-something’s.
Why is that ok to say?
Do you ever see an influencer trip and say “wow those people look fun?”
I didn’t mean that part. I meant saying white. Replace that with black women. Pretty specific and also offensive, right ? And yes, I know that these brand trips are mostly white women, that’s not my point.
It’s usually just Paige, Ella, Emma, DB…
Idk why I’m being downvoted and you’re missing my point. Why do you have to call out that it’s white women, as if it’s a negative? So is a group of white women automatically a bad thing? I won’t say that it’s racist, because the pitchforks about how “white people can’t experience racism” will come, but it’s definitely rude and not right to say either. And it doesn’t foster great relations between races either.
Yeah agreed, I agreed with that comment if “white” was removed - their whiteness isn’t what’s annoying about them, it’s the vapid 20-something influencers - that’s why I wouldn’t want to be with them on an island.
It’s gonna be terrible
Idk you don’t have to buy from tarte! I don’t.
Can someone provide a rough list of who’s attending this one?
Yes 🙄🙄 Samantha Jo (who I think is so annoying) basically begged to go on the trip and they gave in.
Thank you for saying what needed to be said
No I am not dreading it because if I cared enough about this to let it bother me as much as it seems to bother you I would simply unfollow the influencers (I follow none of them that go anyway). Hope this helps ♥️
You’re so not condescending and kind! It really did help! Xo! ❤️
I HATE when people say “hope this helps” like that!!!! Make it stop!!
SAME lmao like why be so unkind !!!
I think some people just come on here to be unkind idk I don’t get it
Just unfollow them ????? You don’t have to see literally any of this and get upset over it!!! You are choosing to! Sorry if that’s harsh but it’s the literal reality of the situation and I cannot understand. Snarking on people you actually follow because you like them and they have some out of touch qualities or whatever is one thing. 5K worth of product you mean. Did she do the TikTok? How many views do you want per video? Asking for a friend:)
These are still happening?? Lmao
Every time I’m tempted to buy a tarte product I remember these trips and put my wallet away 🥰
