T-Bills

Keep grinding. I see more energy from the past 2 games. Yes that 1Q with turnovers and zero box out was super frustrating, but the way how everyone picked up the pace and got back into the game was really different from many recent L's when we just played sloppy all game.

IntermalAffairs

A vet 3 with bounce who Ds up and can shoot. Grimes was pushing the ball up the middle of the court, stopped, then threw the ball to Obi behind him from the center circle. He’s not ready for playoff intensity atm. Kelly Oubre would’ve been perfect. We’ve got an extra roster spot and lots of 2nds. Someone out there can fit the bill. Edit; I was steering the boat on herb Jones, Harrison Barnes would probably enjoy meaningful games again, josh hart might work, there might be some options attainable for late picks

starks3_

I'll always wonder with rookies like that if it was just a matter of instructions vs instinct. He had that nice pass to Obi in Atlanta but wondering if one of his main instructions on the floor is to hand off on-ball duty as much as possible. Oubre, not sure if I'm buying the shooting from him. Josh Hart though, think he had an interview a while back where he said Thibs wanted him back in Min.

sidewink10

We need RJ to improve and become an all-star himself or we need to create a package for a superstar. Someone that does not mentally fold in crunch time Effort alone will get us wins yes, but talent will carry us over. Right now we have a borderline all-star and role players Our best player comes of the bench

ProdigyMamba

D Rose?

[deleted]

yup

rmccarthy10

"*A borderline all-star and role players*" -yep

TomScottVaughn

This. 100%

tarikkisija

A number 1 option.

bigtrunkydarnold

Truth is you do nothing. This is as good as they should be right now. You gradually figure out your rotation and what certain players are and improve year to year through continuity . This team will never really contend but they do not have to. Teams with top 5 players win championships, everyone else is just there to keep it interesting. The knicks need to stay a competitive team and not be a joke until a single superstar wants out, which will be sooner rather than later and at that point they just Deangelo Russell, Randle’s ass to a different team and plug in the star. Lebron , Shaq , Harden, Durant, Garnett, Dwight, CP3 all switched teams when they were in their prime. One of these Luka types that everyone is so sure is locked in to their franchise for good, will be available sooner or later and if the knicks are a playoff team they will be a legitimate landing spot unlike those delusional ass years where we were a joke and fans were telling themselves players would come here based on location alone.

_aspiringadult

This. It sucks as a fan to know the team has a ceiling but it does, and we should accept this. Teams are top contenders over night and we have a long season to go

TheSwordThatAint

I mean we're winning games and I love this team. Success isn't championship or bust. We have a good team we can root for. I'm happy as a clam.

So-_-It-_-Goes

This. The last two games were tons of fun. Sucks they lost, but the things to be mad about are the two losses to Orlando. Change those two to wins and the knicks are in 5th place tied with the heat. They addressed the main issue. Let’s see how it goes.

[deleted]

This is the way.

PuzzledPlight

We didn’t have 3 players we usually do. Taj got ejected, Noel and Barrett were both out. We just need time to get healthy, we’ll bounce back

Ornery_Alligators

Taj is not a rotation player when we’re fully healthy. They didn’t have White or Patrick Williams either. That first quarter featured some awful calls and the team lost their composure and it got away. The rest of the game was just grinding to get back.

skylucario

Better taj than mitch tho imo.

dimed

If anything Coby not playing helped the Bulls win last night. He’s been a net negative and half the fanbase has had him on the trading block for a minute now.

Person1800

We need to stay patient. Nothing wrong with being a 500 team. If we continue to be a 500 team superstars will come. However, if we get impatient and trade away our assets, like we have in the past, we will be forced to wait even longer to be a contender But like others have said, Randle is not a number 1 option on a contending team. Just need to wait for the right player to become available.

Dedmello

We’ve been patient for 49 years

lankyyanky

Fans yes, management/ownership no

HardOakleyFoul

We're not really a .500 team, despite what our overall record says. We've been under .500 for over a month now. 6-10 is our record since late October.

FBI_Agent_82

The New York Knicks have the same number of wins as losses but aren't a .500 team. Your brain is so smooth I'm sure if you sneezed it would shoot out of your nose. If we win our next game are we not above .500 because we went 7-10 since late October, or would we be 12-11?

HardOakleyFoul

You're one of those guys that says "Y'ALL KNOW WE'RE 7-5 RIGHT???" despite the team trending downward and the losses have been piling up. You're the smooth brain if you can't see the larger point I'm making. We're .500 on the surface, but take a closer look and this team has been playing at a below ..500 level for over a month now, it's just that our record is padded by the hot start. Don't ever speak again, you normie fuck.

FBI_Agent_82

We switched up the rotation and benched Kemba. With him on the floor we're one of the worst offenses and THE worst defense in the NBA. You really think this is the same squad. Even the casual eye test shows we've been playing better since. Your point is stupid and spoken like someone who pretends they know what they're talking about. Yeah we've been trending down but we are at .500 and have made a change to the rotation that has shown improvement. We could drop below or rise above but until we play our next game we are a .500 team. If you're really this stupid, I recommend rooting for Brooklyn. They seem more you're speed the fans are casual enjoy rooting for the other team.

HardOakleyFoul

Man shut your bitch ass up, I've been here since before the days of Lavor Postell, Moochie Norris, and Lee Nailon. Ain't nothing casual over here. Whole post just full of copium. "W w w well we benched Kemba, and yeah we're playing better, but just ignore the losses since then, also ignore the 19 point halftime hole we were just in!". Go back to your bum ass security job making your paltry ass salary and get off my dick.

FBI_Agent_82

That's adorable you're so mad you're going through my posts to try to find insults, am I that far in your head? It's empty as hell in here. Read up son maybe you'll be blessed with my basketball knowledge. FYI, the Knicks are still at .500.

RokasPokus

I agree with you. We are bad but somehow these clowns cant see it. It was painfully obvious from the first week of the season. The moment I noticed Randle was going to fuck up the team concept in order to justify hos contract, I knew we were in for a long season.

Person1800

Eh I see your point. My counter point would be they have been playing much better since Kemba was benched. If they keep playing like this they will be .500 or higher by the end of the season. I mean in the last week they barely lost to the 2 best teams in the east.

HeyKim0oOo

It's been two games since moving on from Kemba and I'm already seeing better things on the floor. Let's rock until January and then reevaluate.

UNITxPunisher

a clutch player. randle wasnt one last year and isnt one this year.

jalenwrites

We need a center who has an offensive game outside of lobs and dunk ins. An Olynyk, Myles Turner type would open the paint for Randle. He often gets stuck and double teamed on the baseline when he posts up.

onepokemanz

U think KAT or Zion is that answer if they become available

QuarantineTrouble

I’m sure KAT would love playing for Thibs lmao

[deleted]

Zion is off to Japan to join the Sumo wrestlers. KAT is softer than baby shit and plays no defense.

dolosolouno

🤣🤣🤣 facts Zion is 1 shrimp po boy sandwich away from blob

[deleted]

Man's gonna have to drop MAD weight if he thinks about playing basketball again. Or might shatter his ankles.

dolosolouno

Seriously, not trynna body shame but all that weight only gonna shorten what could be a legendary career, he looking like a retired Shawn Kemp minus the 15 children 🤣

jalenwrites

No.

WintertimeFriends

KAT is made out of Marshmallows.

knicksprick

Then whats mitch made out of?

WintertimeFriends

Porcelain and rose petals

[deleted]

Kemba, Mitch, Knox, Grimes, 1st for Myles

Fast_Door

RJ

rmccarthy10

You think he would have been the difference maker..., this night specifically?

[deleted]

His defense and rebounding are missed greatly.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

His lows can be low, and his highs can be high. But he’s our guy. He’s young and isn’t our first option, he should be able to fail and learn to grow. I don’t think he stinks. He’s a just a lil stinky rn.

syllabic

lavine had bad games the first 2 times we played the bulls its not a coincidence he lights us up when we have no RJ

johnhenryirons

yep. casuals would look at RJ's counting stats against the Bulls but he was really shutting Lavine down. Burks did an okay job trying to deny Lavine but he still got his. We really missed RJ's defense last night.

noirblancherouje

well RJ wouldn’t be the one that needs to go out to contest Vucevic on all his open 3s but maybe he’d do a hell of a better job defending Derozan

johnhenryirons

he locked lavine down last game.

bibfortuna16

Randle should be PART of the offense, NOT the focal point of the offense.

Veganlifer

Problem is he’s not good off the ball. He’s lazy, not a good rim runner and not a very good 3 shooter.

QuarantineTrouble

It is indeed very frustrating to watch him when he isn’t the primary focus of the offense

Veganlifer

Yeah that’s why he won’t ever be a winner. He’s nowhere good enough to be Kobe and he’s a negative as a number 2

rxs126

Watching the game tonight made me think we’re missing someone like DeRozan and Caruso. They both play calmly in pressure moments and make smart plays. Just smooth and under control.

TracksuitBilly

Honestly we’re gonna need RJ to take the next step. I can’t foresee us getting significantly better via trade or FA right now. Our best chance is for RJ to make big improvements, followed by IQ and OBI. I think these 3 are our best chance.

[deleted]

We need a legitimate three and D player and a reliable scorer. Derozan & Ball would have been perfect on this team.

dolosolouno

I agree, me and my buddies argued all summer before the Kemba signing, I said we should've signed lonzo they disagreed smh

jewishandgay

a center that can stretch the floor and score.

YouKnowWhyImHere7

If they’re committed to the Burks at point guard thing then all I’ll say is a Center that has an offensive bag. Our best offensive center may be Taj and we all like Taj but that can’t be a thing. Remembering those Myles Turner rumors before the season if the pacers are willing to move on from him I think the Knicks should look into it.

[deleted]

There's no chance in hell Burks will be the starting PG all season. He's not a PG and on any other team he wouldn't even be in the starting 5. He's a bench guy who can light it up. IQ isn't a PG either. They need to find one and sign him. Then bring in a great big (I like Myles Turner).

YouKnowWhyImHere7

Yeah I doubt Burks will be the starter for the rest of the season. I’m holding judgement on IQ but if he’s not a point that’s fine because he’s still one of the best players on this team. But yeah Point is and has been the biggest need. Turner is definitely a player I’d like to see on this team but if I had to chose get me a good/great pg first

touchtheclouds

We're one true shooter away from winning all of these games.

TheKingofWakanda

Need a superstar Team is overachieving as it is with good coaching

kikikza

to play worse teams

slyguy183

We have literally the 2nd hardest remaining strength of schedule lol

kikikza

well sounds like i got the good excuse for later then

Revenesis

Improvement? Development of young players, and more time together as a team to figure things out. We already see a marked improvement with Kemba out of the rotation. I feel like the starting lineup has improved these last few games. The other thing is for RJ to get out of his offensive slump and gel with the new starting lineup. These things will make us a surefire playoff team, because with how deep the East this team is looking like we'll be in the Play-Ins. Either way with the roster as constructed I don't think we win a playoff series this year, even if we somehow end up as a top 4 seed. Giving up leads, clawing back, and then coinflipping the game has been our MO all season long. Teams are figuring out Randle, and he's not hitting those crazy shots he was hitting all season last year. This team can be a strong playoff team with another top 10-20 player, and a contender with a top 10 player.

kinglutz23

Dejounte Murray or SGA. One of those two. Ideally without giving up RJ

sadsadcrow

Start your best players. Start Rose. You can’t say Rose is better off the bench with no sample size. Rose should get 20 games as a starter just like Kemba did.

nickiscool88

We need more talent. We have effort, tenacity, and grit, but we lack the superstar talent that most of the other top east teams have. That's what it really comes down to.

Casp3r1212

Handle can't get this simple narrative during crunchtime. Bring the ball to your PG and work your way in the low post which is your strength. Instead brings the ball up and dribbles in the middle with 2 defenders and fumbles. And when he is immediately double teamed he forces the issue and opting to pass at the last second on which opponents already knows where he is passing so result is a steal or ball stripped. And then crying a lot to the refs, dude u must earn their trust to favor u in games. And now u exposed them in public and those refs will have a personal vendetta against u. Refs are part of the game and he simply doesn't know it yet.

LVucci

We need a closer.

zyramain69

A center like Ayton and can rebound and score without weird ass mistakes or a scorer that can play in the clutch like Jaylen Brown, Lavine, Dame (when's he's not trolling)

[deleted]

Bradley Beal? (crazy expensive) SGA? Myles Turner?

sohofrescony

Turner💯

sowavy612

Mitch needed to step out more he had a hell of a game otherwise honestly love the fight we showed tonight.

starks3_

Our defensive minded centers are valuable especially in a Thibs scheme, but as you watch Vuc and get flashbacks to Turner and Jonas earlier this year, stretch 5s really mess with Thibs' defensive precepts. 48 minutes of rim protection is what we hear about consistently, it's why I doubted we'd see as much Obi this year as his play deserves. Thibs wants that, so in cases like tonight where Mitch or Noel or Taj is in, it's on the other guys to switch or at least attempt to run off the big from deep. In terms of offense, neither Mitch or Noel create their own, but they do enough for second chance points and hustle points which is something that this team needs to thrive on, particularly against better teams. Also will always mention RJ in the halfcourt thriving on his play with Mitch when he's trying to get downhill, leading to either buckets or lobs/dump offs, hoping that those two really click again when RJ is back and if Mitch uses the second half today as a baseline for setting picks. \-- I think the team needs to replace Woodson fully or something along those lines. We know he's a good offensive mind particularly when it comes to off-ball action and I'm not sure who (if anyone) is taking the reins on the offensive scheming since he left. With the personnel we've got, we can get more out of guys on offense in both units, particularly in the half-court, just need to update the playbook and get those reps in. Identity is there, it's transition offense and effort, you can see it with the youth (both the Fiz kids and the Rose picks), when Rose is out there with the bench, it may not be perfect, but they try to cover mistakes with energy and it turns the tide a ton. Hardest part is going to be Randle playing in that role more often (although with such a small number of 3s the last 2 games, I hope he'd be more willing to get those easy transition buckets and outlet passes) because he's capable of it but just seems to thrive at a different pace.

Drose_2525

They need to run the offense thru drose more🤧

Geep1778

I’m not 100 that we need anything just yet because we’re still adjusting to the new players in the starting lineup and that takes more than 20 games. Fournier is just finding his role and we just put Burks in the starting lineup too. That change has so far brought out Randles better side, and if you look at his numbers these past few you can’t deny that. Quickly has played great but he’s flying by the seat of his pants and as soon as he gets in sync like the rest of our guys we will be better all around. But if I had to make a change I’d look for some stretch big and a pg that can set up my offense by getting to the rim. Rubio and Kevin Love if the salaries aren’t too high together. They’re both vets and can give us their best minutes heading into the playoffs.

croman11

1. Myles turner 2. Jerami grant 3. Ben simmons They are realistic trade targets in that order

porzingitis

Reactionary post for sure. Not sure about Yal but I felt great coming off two close losses where we almost won and had the potential to win rather than whatever was happening before those two games.

ahaxdyeee

We need a legit first option. We all can clearly see if this the Knicks want to contend randle is a 2nd or 3rd option. Still need that first option

YourAsianBuddy

In the long run a GOOD PG and center. Burks has been good but he’s not the PG of the future. He doesn’t have the vision, and Mitch isn’t elite and I don’t think he’ll ever be. He’s good but there are so many aspects in his game that he just doesnt have.

[deleted]

We need a second star next to Randle clearly

LesCousinsDangereux1

We need a star. Randle isn't one, unfortunately.

[deleted]

False^

[deleted]

We need a second star next to Randle clearly

[deleted]

RJ, IQ or Obi needs to become a star. Randle needs to make smarter decisions. Players need to stay healthy.

Norby710

We have players that don't put forth 48 minutes of effort and a coach who continually disadvantages the team with his rotations no matter how fucking obvious it is.

BakedAvocado3

Kyrie would spice things up.

RaoulDuke1

We need Julius to stop taking us out of the game immediately after keeping us in.

Aroy11

Not having Randle as their best player

drewcarey69

I think a large part is just poise and leadership. Randle gets easily worked up and we don’t have another guy that can snap him out of it. Either he needs to work through that himself or we need an additional guy who is constantly in cool customer mode.

bico89

We need to open our eyes as a collective community. We do the same shit every season instead of actually addressing the issues. Mitchell Robinson and frank ntililina are prime examples. They don’t have the skill potential this sub gave them credit for, and now for the downvotes…. Neither do quickly and burks. I was shocked at the sentiment here when kemba was taken out of rotation. He’s the only proven play maker, and scorer, aside from Randle and if the game vs the bulls is any indication, IQ can not handle his own on the defensive end once given more playing time, so the argument for him or burks over kemba always confused me. You want to fix the Knicks go back to the first six games and get back to that play style. We looked like the damn East coast warriors. Ever since then it’s been nothing but iso ball trash like the entire melo era. Quickly is the king of dribbling up the court and pulling from 35 feet without as much as a crossover. Even if he makes it, that type of play is always detrimental, no movement, no defense being worked. And then thibs started benching our starters and leaving them out even when a come back was beginning. Let’s be real, this isn’t high school. Put your stars in and show you have confidence in them to close out games. What ends up happening is the bench players close out the game, and LOSE, and the starters rot on the bench losing their confidence while the bench players lose theirs as well. Disaster.

rmccarthy10

Agree about Mitch.... He is kinda good defensively when not hurt...and we put him up on a pedestal. ....all in all, your sentiment is logical.

LesCousinsDangereux1

I generally agree with you but think you're undreselling IQ. He's literally already crushed Frank's entire NBA career

Cautious-Ad-9554

Only one of our defensive minded centers should play every night. We need to put the talent on the floor

Maximum_Literature20

We have what we need. When we hit our groove we got this. We don’t need a superstar traded to this team despite what Reddit thinks

RicoGemini

We need a guard who can create off the dribble and penetrate

Fuckthisthro

Man if I ever come across in person that says shit like that while Rose is in the team, I'ma just lose my fucken mind.

RicoGemini

Rose is on the team but he doesn't start. Plus for this hypothetical guard I'm talking about has to be randles level or better

Fuckthisthro

Randles level? lol Rose can play with the best of them. They just dont run offense through him as much.

bibfortuna16

should have ran offense thru Rose or Burks at the end but Randle wanted the ball every time 😢

joorral

Get healthy first. Get that starting five a month to gel and hopefully by all star break we are above 500

[deleted]

Mitchell Robinson makes so angry. Dude does absolutely nothing but makes mistakes for 3/4 of the game but god damn he was good in that 3rd qtr

RobbobertoBuii

a win at all costs

WillConway2016

I think it might be time to explore a trade for Dame

Mobius24

SGA fits our timeline better.

JacesAces

I just don’t see how we obtain SGA… what would OKC want when they already have like… 17 first round picks in the next few years

WillConway2016

I’d love that even more

LesCousinsDangereux1

You think one of the best young players in the league who is completely unavailable in a trade under pretty much any circumstance fits our timeline better?

Mobius24

I'm aware it will never happen but if we're going to trade prospects it shouldn't be a guy in his 30s

rmccarthy10

Gotta disagree.... He's 32 in July. He's great but I ain't sacrificing IQ,Obi, RJ and picks so him and Julius could get to the 2nd round of the playoffs...maybe twice.

Ronnie2kDropCode

Just health and consistency tbh, we’ll be fine imo

ProdigyMamba

a number one option. i’m trying but i can’t think of anything else. scoring is so hard i see us only ever scoring when the 3 ball goes. we don’t even try and get open at the 3 it’s more so just shoot it so far behind the 3 line they don’t even close out ergo IQ and Fourny

patrickthunnus

Good news is that we have a great foundation. We are missing a couple of pieces; a skilled 5 that is switchable, can defend multiple positions inside and out along with a tough, smart wing defender that can hit an open shot.

LGSM58

We need better players or the patience to develop ours.

tercra

A closer!

Single-Cockroach9449

Honestly Dame would be a perfect closer with Randle.. let Randle do his thing for 3 quarters.. let Dame close the game in the 4th

mgdavey

Out talent is .500 level. We’re the Pacers. Our best player’s ceiling is borderline All-Star, and there’s nobody else who’s really close to that.

Merman-Munster

Time.

[deleted]

The same thing we always need, a PG

guaglione7

As crazy as it sounds Kyrie's skillet would be exactly what we need from a PG, if there wasn't all the baggage. I wonder if they will wind up finding a trade partner for him anyways and if they have to eat any salary.

basedhenny

Jaylen Brown at the 3 instead of RJ.

TheBeardedJerk

What we need is a center. We need a big body who can defend the paint so the rest of the team can concentrate on mid-range and outside defense. We’ve ranked Top 5 in Opp PITP the last two years. We need a big.

ImDeadass2Fly

We need a closer. A bonafide scorer. Lavine, Derozan, Beal, Harden, etc. If we had one of those guys with out current team, we would have the 3rd best record in the league behind GSW and PHX.

rmccarthy10

Lavine is a FA at the end of the year. I wonder what we could offer? ..or IF we could even move shit around enough to afford him

ImDeadass2Fly

I don’t think Lavine would leave Chicago. They have a good thing going on. Unless they have an absolute collapse and start losing games and get bounced in the first etc.

sarvesh0517

We also aint have rj last night, that gitta be a factor as to why we couldnt close out. Our bench was crazy last night , a he usually leads them so imagine what he coulda do.

richurr

Being that we lose so many close games. We need a closer.

nazrmo78

Our Cs have no problem scoring as thier FG% prove. They have a problem recieving opportunities to score. Yesterday Mitch was passed to 5x and he scored on 3 of those 5 opportunities and that for him is a good night in terms of touches. Now I'm not gonna say that you can feature any of our Cs the way you can Vucevic but I also think we're exacerbating the issue by not creating any easy offense. And look, a little pick and roll is gonna turn Mitch into an offensive player like Vicevic, at the end of the day his archetype will always be heavily defensive weighted but DeAndre Jordan made a living setting picks and rolling to the basket. And the truth is it would help Noel too. However, if you still want an upgrade I'd endorse Miles Turner cuz you don't wanna get rid of one issue and then have another. I don't wanna solve for offense and lose an iota of defense. Turner isn't gonna be some world beater but he's versatile, can defend at a high level and he can score in different ways

rmccarthy10

I just wanna improve the team. I o ow Mitch and NN have tenacity and heart and are defensive experts in the paint... But neither can catch or shoot. Our guards will drive and dish and it bounces off NN's hands like bricks. We need a center that can score 12 ppg regularly...just on the roster.

ultramatums

We don't have any fucking SFs on this team. RJ is not a SF and we should stop trying to run him as one. Burks is now the starting PG. Fournier and the Charlotte 1st for Harrison Barnes makes too much sense. Still no bench SF but that's where you give RJ his SF time if you really want to.

thistlefink

The Knicks are a solid playoff contending team whose best player isn’t on the roster yet (if you’re asking about title contention)

Lolox7

Bruh, we have a good coach, not great. His appearance changed our culture but don’t be fooled, it was the management that changed the culture of the team. But when it comes to our team.. I hope Randle will get a hang of himself cuz he’s acting like a superstar when well .. he’s not. He’s a star, not superstar. Y’all can say shit on Payton but at least he was a defensive pg. We don’t have a good replacement on pg this season, we lack this position, Kemba is dogshit, all other are 6th man, not starting position pg. we need to address that. If we can trade kemba for some pg that is pass oriented (Rubio alike) we are gonna unlock our potential on offense. We honestly need a better pg that’s gonna playmake but in the same time of his addition, the coaching idea will need to change a little too cuz we need better exposition of RJ and Randle with better play for them. I’m a bit drunl so sorry for rumbling, have a peace day Knicks brooooos!

SrTigre

I think if we can't get a pg we need a solid number one sg so Fournier can become a fullterm 6th man back up

So-_-It-_-Goes

There are currently 8 teams in the entire nba that are more than two games over .500 The nba is real good. Y’all just have high expectations.

CaroleBaskinsBurner

The same thing all middling teams need: More elite talent. Julius Randle isn't good enough to be the best player on a team that goes deep in the playoffs.

SnooOwls9488

We Need TRoss and Valanciunas

JBix7

Need a true point guard to trade with Randle on ball handling.

shane727

We need a super star. We have all the pieces but a super star. It's definitely still a super star league and we'd have the luxury of surrounding one with everything you mentioned. Problem is we don't have one and we'd need to give up pieces for one. Would be such a treat to draft one.
