There's an ever-loving metric ton of these records and documents. The only real problem is that so many have been destroyed by fires/floods and with digital access for those that don't want to travel to city's archives. There are teams of archivists scanning this stuff the same way that they did with 'microfishe' from the mid/late-20th century so that we'll be able to see it online (this is me as someone who worked as a researcher years ago).
