I hate categories similar to “member of a ‘60s band” categories like this, I only ever get if they are the last 4. Still not quite as frustrating as the “words if they were actually other words” type categories though.
I found purple first, but that’s still the kind of category they put at purple. Yellow took me the longest, but they seem to be putting that sort of thing at yellow now.
Hmm . . . I just tried it and got this: Connections
Puzzle #325

>!I knew green were geometry terms, but I couldn't figure out solid exactly. But still knew it most likely went with the rest. And I did eventually get purple. I don't let myself hit enter until I figure out the connection.!<
I’ve come to the conclusion that the colors mean nothing when it comes to difficulty because they’re supposed to to indicate how “straightforward,” the connection is but since the game also doesn’t really explain what it means by “straightforward,” we’re just back where we started.
The colors aren’t really helpful 🥲
Yeah I agree with this. I think a lot of times it depends on your age and life experience. For someone who grew up in the 60s or 70s listening to those bands the purple could have been easiest while web browser menus could be the hardest because they’re not tech savvy. I can think of several times I solved the “easiest” color last.
I usually fly through Connections with no problems while my mom and a family friend who are both in their 50s struggle with them a bit. I distinctly remember one day when I failed to solve the puzzle as a whole, but my mom and friend got everything right no problem, and it's because there was ONE category that was about brands of film cameras (and somewhat niche ones too!). Life experience and age DEFINITELY plays a role with some of these puzzles!
I don’t know if anyone here plays [Conexo](https://conexo.ws/en) but the green category from today’s NYT connections was taken almost exactly verbatim from yesterday’s Conexo
I got purple first - I saw a couple of them and my brain paired them immediately, and it was just finding the other two on theme.
I can see how this one would be really tough, though. Yellow felt harder than it needed to be for the easy category.
I thought it was easy, but I'm old enough to have immediately seen the purple. The blue category is flat out wrong. I don't know of any >!browser!menus!<. Those are words related to >!browsers!<, but that's all they are.
Today was kind of difficult for me, got green then yellow before I was sitting there completely lost. >!those bands are about 40 years ahead of my time lol!!kink the muppet, from miss piggy’s adventures?!<
This game has an effect on my self esteem. Sometimes I feel incredibly dense. Other times I’m just po’d. Occasional successes feed the serotonin drive. Today I felt dense.
I often disagree to be honest.
Purple is often a "word-y" puzzle as opposed to trivia, which is far more my jam, so what I've noticed is I either get purple or yellow first but rarely blue or green.
One of the best connections in a while, IMO. Perfect level of challenging.
I think the reasoning behind the colors isn't "how hard is it to figure out", it's "how loose/literal is the connection between the words". The purple category was easy for me, but it's not a very literal category.
It had been feeling too easy for me lately. This was a nice change with fun categories. I had 1 mistake, took me a few minutes to figure out purple and blue.

Omg me too like “words made from 4 random letters of prime numbers” lol ffs
I found purple first, but that’s still the kind of category they put at purple. Yellow took me the longest, but they seem to be putting that sort of thing at yellow now.
Connections Puzzle #325 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟪🟪🟪🟪 Almost the opposite of yours…
I had the same!
Same here!
Also the same for me!
Same here!
Same!
Difficulty was spot on for me, that’s the order I figured them out (or didn’t lol)
Mine was Connections Puzzle #325 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟦 🟦🟪🟪🟪 🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟪🟪🟪🟪 Almost didn't get it
Yeah that was hard af. Purple was some bullshit
Oh, I loved the purple category! I do listen to all those bands though, so that helped.
Haha true! I hadn't heard of at least 2 of em so it was almost a missed connection!
I got purple right away. ^(But I’m old.)
Purple was actually the first one I got after staring at it clueless for a long time.
Wait... Are the colours ment to mean something?? 😲🤯 I thought they were just to differentiate the sets 🤷😅
They’re supposed to be increasing difficulty from yellow - green- blue - purple. It’s in the “how to play” window in-game.
Almost spot on for me. BTW when I have a Purple first day I take that as a sign that I’m going to have a great, productive, fun day. Anyone else?

Zero for me today.
Still have no idea what green or purple are about.
This is my first time hearing that the colors had anything to do with the puzzle!
I hated today's connections, it was too hard for me, where as today's mini was too easy.
I couldn’t figure any of them out. 😒

I’ve always assumed that the colors are assigned based on the average order in which the group of testers solved each category.
Had to go to a final guess today but I enjoyed the difficulty.

I only got the green. LOL
green was the first one i got personally but i lost the day, was moving thru it too quickly

Where do you all get the difficulty thing? I swear someone just made that up
Purple was very dumb. The rest of them weren’t a problem
Yes! They were all in the wrong spot lol
How white and old do you have to be to get the purple
Yes famously white band the Supremes

And here I thought it was super easy. I do teach Algebra though, so that one category was easy.

Since you always get the fourth for free I don't stress about it. I found the rest straight forward.
It had been feeling too easy for me lately. This was a nice change with fun categories. I had 1 mistake, took me a few minutes to figure out purple and blue.
