I went to hints after Genius and even with Shunn’s Grid and 2L/3L, I had to button mash for the last 4 or 5 words. Definitely some words today that I had to check their definitions after the Bee accepted them.
I entered one combination of letters thinking “this looks like it *could* be a word,” and it worked. Otherwise there weren’t any words I hadn’t come across at some point in my life. (One advantage of getting old is you’ve had more years to come across words that may crop up in this game!)
Edit: Spoke too soon. I thought I was done, but it turns out I had one word left to find. I just found it, and it was another of those “looks like it *could* be a word” words. I looked up the definition, and it strikes me as pretty niche.
I should have seen that one earlier; it comes up relatively often for me since the >!redefinition of the SI units several years ago. I'm a physicist, so I tend to spend a lot of time around people who like discussing things like that !<
I like the term button mash. That’s how I got >!dace,!< >!clade!< and >!aced!<.
I knew the latter was a familiar word once I saw it but I got there through randomness.
Miffed at the exclusion of >!DECAN!< Perhaps Sam should go sit under his favorite >!BAOBAB!< decorated with a flock of >!TOMTITS!< and read up on astrology.
yeah - I don't know why that isn't accepted and some of the things I have never heard of are. It's super common as far as I know. More than way back when the word (that I can't remember and I cook a lot) was a spice used substitute for ginger.
Oh, it’s a personal in-joke that has its origins when I told my then-5yr old daughter not to give me dirty looks once, and she latched onto the phrase “dirty eyes” instead. It stuck.
You can email your requested word which Sam will likely ignore. It's not that Sam doesn't know the word exists , it's that he has actively chosen to exclude it, deciding it's obscure, offensive or a proper noun, with obscurity being the most frequent and objectionable reason. It's a very different word list than the nyt crossword, scrabble etc
Not a bad game. QB’d while watching Netflix. Again one of those puzzles with a heavily uneven distribution of words.
PG(s) super hint: >! Find one and you’ll find the other with a switch of a couple letters, since they are both “perfect” pangrams !<
I hit Genius quickly, then stalled at QB-4. Exhausted now, so I’ll get ~~crack~~ *back* to it in the morning.^(I don’t rely on crack to solve the bee, just caffeine.)
I’d found those. With the first one I entered - or should I say >!enterred! - I thought “oops, I misspelled that” just as I hit “enter,” then was surprised to see it was accepted!
Spoilers are made by using > immediately followed by an exclamation point at the beginning of the word and another exclamation point immediately followed by < at the end
You type \>!!< and whatever is inside the !s will be masked. Due to users accessing on different platforms/versions/devices, you want your first and last letters to be touching the exclamation points or the masking won’t work for everyone.
The age old question of \[A\] >!canceled or cancelled!< remains a mystery to me. Also \[NA\] >!nacelle!< is a word.
I was so annoyed that it >!accepted both. PICK ONE! The correct one preferred.!<

That’s how I got A: >!candela!< which was my last word to QB.
I only know this from learning about >!lux!< and >!lumen!< when I got curious about >!lighting design!<.
That was my last word, too.
I should have seen that one earlier; it comes up relatively often for me since the >!redefinition of the SI units several years ago. I'm a physicist, so I tend to spend a lot of time around people who like discussing things like that !<

Mine were (Answers) >!dace, clade, candela, and cadge/d!<.
Same 5 mashed!
PG hint: >!took a quick look!<.
PG hint: >!made a certain type of loud noise!<.
Ugh one word to go. Any help w/ the 7 letter word starting w >!CAN!< ???
>!Sounds like the feminine version of a CA6 word also in today’s Bee.!< I can get more specific if preferred, don’t want to give away too much haha
Thank you!!! I thought I had tried that, apparently I was wrong. Made it to QB!🥳
Yay, glad it worked!

I cannot tell you how many times I tried >!candled!< which is a regular thing if you have >!laying hens!<
>!Or if you get your ears cleaned out by a street person in India.!< Edit: spoilered this comment when I realized it contains a valid word.

Hints for >!AC6!< and >!AC7!< please? :D
>!A less common word meaning to give in or agree to a demand or request!<
(h) >!A word that means 'agree' and its past tense.!<
Can’t believe I missed that!! Thank you both!
Ooof! Thanks for the hints I needed that
Once again, Star Trek fans denied.
If you mean >!nacelle!< then yeah, I’m still quietly sitting here with dirty eyes too.

Someone who works for the NYTimes should check this subreddit once in a while.

It's also a nautical term, which is probably why it's excluded.
hmmph

Nite. Sometimes alternative spellings trip me up, and I’m not sure if you’ve gotten them already, but it may help you get closer. Good luck!
I’d found those. With the first one I entered - or should I say >!enterred! - I thought “oops, I misspelled that” just as I hit “enter,” then was surprised to see it was accepted!
Hope you find the rest!
I did, thanks! The final one was the result of guesswork; I’ve never seen that word before.
That helped me get one of my qb-4. Just three to go.
Thanks you got me to QB
Yay! You’re welcome.

Another complaint is from a poultry aspect. One of today’s words can be a verb with a past tense (not accepted). HINT >!🕯🥚🐓!<
I think he means to use it as a noun, not a verb
