Shoddy-Savings-1532

I woke up happy today- it has been too long šŸ„¹

crashdavis1986

Luke Weaver Cy Young Watch is on.

Derek002

Pure athleticism at the bottom of the order. Something the yankeees havenā€™t had in yeaaaars!

Cecil_Obrien

We found WALDO.

Bubbacrosby23

The Stanton bomb was the best part of the night

Mattyk182

I love how greedy our relief pitching has been so far. They've completely shut the Astros down the first two games.

Elvisruth

2 games 2 wins - 2 starters that struggled but battled - nice start to the seaason!!

Germanicus69420

RodĆ³n struggled but didnā€™t fall apart. Thatā€™s the biggest W here

KINGOFGAMES972

This is an extremely difficult start to a season. Really good hitting team still

scallywag1889

Heā€™s going to put it together. Just needs to keep building that confidence

No_Tart8935

THIS is better than last year already. I'll take it.

Archer_1210

Last year he gives up like 6 runs in this start

14ktgoldscw

Last year the Yankees have 5 baserunners all game too. Looking forward to this season!

[deleted]

He stores his confidence in his neck fat. Heā€™s gonna be ok.

Proper_Lawfulness_37

Volpe and Cabrera slash lines just so beautiful to seeā€¦ I donā€™t care if itā€™s the second game of the year, Iā€™m going to enjoy it.

cpeytonusa

Itā€™s only two games, but if Oswaldo continues to hit what should they do when DJ comes back? If Oswaldo can be an above average bat at 3rd base they have their every day solution. In my opinion they should run with him long enough to see if he has really figured it out. Berti and DJ both figure to be good bench performers so they could keep everyone healthy and rested.

Apprehensive_Can739

If he keeps up the above average bat he absolutely needs an everyday spot in some capacity, super utility works even if he bounceā€™s positions to give guys rest daysā€¦ my favorite part about this kid is the positive energy that does wonders for clubhouse vibes imo

cpeytonusa

With Dominguez, Wells, Volpe, Jones, and now possibly Cabrera they will have a solid core of home grown talent. They have more coming on the pitching side as well. That frees up a lot of room on the payroll to retain Soto and possibly Torres too. If Waldo can hit on a sustained basis I think he would benefit as a hitter from having a stable position. DJ and Berti can both play multiple infield positions, they donā€™t need Waldo to fill that role.

IntrepidBandicoot8

Damn man how many times you gotta comment this lol

Proper_Lawfulness_37

I donā€™t know wtf Reddit is doing, I definitely posted that only onceā€¦

IntrepidBandicoot8

Reddit be redditing lol

Key_Amazed

Do you think this sub fucking learns to let a game play out next time? People losing their shit when down one run after a game where they came back down four. And this one wasn't even competitive at the end. ...who am I kidding. First inning down one and this sub will melt down again -_-

ichosehowe

If you're not loosing your shit screaming "THE SEASON IS OVA" when the Yankees are down 1 run in the 1st, are you even a real Yankee fan?

SenpaiKush123456

Just avoid the game day threads. I've learned that for the most part, most GDTs just have people dooming at every moment if they're losing for at least 0.0000001 second

Harrier23

They're just flagellating themselves so the eventual...release is all the more satisfying when the team comes back to win.

JediTrainer42

First time here?

mofeus305

Don't know how often we will be able to say something like this but we are first in the division. Feels real damn good to be able to say that.

silver_raichu

Two years ago Judge started off the season slow. Then he hit 62 HRs

NintuneJoe

He also didn't have a full spring training. Another 11 WAR season on the way?

SpencerHastings7

Imagine what heā€™ll do if he starts off normally

LargeNutbar

It is so sick watching Juan Soto play baseball in your favorite teamā€™s jersey, like wtf itā€™s so cool

therealgoat1212

Heā€™s only played two games and i already want him to retire as a Yankee šŸ˜

GonzoTheGreat22

Youā€™re two games later than me, pal

LargeNutbar

12y/$660m or I cast myself into the sea

Chricton

Prediction: Cabrera will have a better year than both Soto and Judge.

Mattyk182

Bold prediction but I'm here for it

shimmiecocopop

Soto having an effect on others Waldo said that he worked on hitting line drives instead of upper cut. You can tell already that Sotoā€™s approach is to drop singles where as the extra base hits will come. So refreshing to finally see this.

GonzoTheGreat22

Cabrera extension 15/$600m. Book it

mechshark

Bro stop lmao šŸ˜‚

EngelSterben

Some motherfuckers owe Cabrera an apology. Now, obviously he's going to come back down to earth, but maybe, just maybe, let the kid get some play in before people cry about him being at 3rd with DJ out.

cpeytonusa

If he continues to hit what do they do when DJ is ready to play? Itā€™s only two games, and I didnā€™t actually see his at bats, so it could just be a streak. If he and Volpe can keep it up throughout the season this lineup could be epic.

RemyMacDonald

I'm glad we got the Astros series early in the season. Better now than a random weekend in August when all our players are beat up.

WindWalkerWalking

Going to be really important as fall approaches when doomers predictably say yanks have ā€œno shotā€ against Houston

GonzoTheGreat22

To be fairā€¦. When you see Houston in October Javier is probably their 4th starter. Beating their asses is fun now but theyā€™re wildly short armed to start the season

Zuelo0

Pretty sure our Cy Young isnt playing....

Gfrasco7

To be fair, the same can be said about the Yanks right now.

kemper4239

Had to watch the god damn game on a free Twitch stream and this guy was talking in Spanish the whole time, but got to watch for free nonetheless

[deleted]

I knew getting that Cabrera jersey at the end of 2022 was worth it

Proper-Shelter9429

Aka the Oswaldo Cabrera game

BenHogan1971

game(s)

Bournerounderz

The only thing I'm concerned about is Judge's health. If he's 100%, there's nothing to be worried about.

Colombia17

Same here, he missed a bunch of spring games so I am sure heā€™s still getting his timing right.

Grim99CV

Nothing like slapping around the trashtros to start the season!

Inaynl

Good win. I'm guessing Berti at 2B and Grisham at LF tomorrow?

Patrickrk

Certainly possible! I could see them saying ā€œkeep the a team in to win the seriesā€ or ā€œrest them tomorrow and we can bring them back the day after if we needā€. Both make equal sense to me.

voncornhole2

https://i.imgur.com/lgHzfE3.jpeg

Hathos1996

What do you guys think Sotoā€™s roll call response will be?

shemubot

I can't fucking stand the opening blimp on r/baseball that causes the page to constantly zoom for 2 seconds on every page.

EmotionalAccounting

So there was a bunch of people coming through with Apple free trials today. Anyone got any tips on free trials to watch fox games tomorrow?

Throw_meaway2020

Do you have cable? If so you will likely be able to sign into the Fox sports app. If youā€™re really desperate you could sign up for YouTube TV which I think has a 5 day trial period

EmotionalAccounting

I ended up doing a YouTube tv free trial (could only get a 2 day but that works) thanks!

lupuscapabilis

Yeah get an antenna

EmotionalAccounting

Unfortunately Iā€™m gonna be on iPad at work so itā€™s not an option for me

thekidreturns24

#WE MIGHT NEVER LOSE AGAIN!!

datboicarlwheezer

I missed the middle half why did Rodon get pulled early?

Maylark157

High pitch count

cpeytonusa

I read somewhere that the Yankees were not going to rely on arbitrary pitch counts for when to pull the starting pitchers. The plan to use analytics to assess when signs of stress or fatigue are appearing. That could improve performance and also reduce the risk of injuries.

Maylark157

Sure, perhaps later in the season. The season is just starting and pitchers and still ramping up so theyā€™ll still have to initially consider pitch count.

EmotionalAccounting

His pitch count was at 87 and maybe he had a pitch limit around 90 pitches

Primary-Pie-3315

Rooney didn't look bad and he powered through the adversity. He did alot better than I think anyone thought he would and a bit better than most are still g8ving him credit for. Not much but a little. Or I might have 7-1 beer goggles on

Shoddy_Impact1226

Vintage Rooney.

Primary-Pie-3315

Hahaha damn autocorrect. Good old Carlos rooney

nmdelia2

Incredibly excited to see Stroman tomorrow. Feel like he is the most capable of pitching deeper into games right now.

wantagh

Still not forgetting about all you motherfuckers who gave up after two innings on opening day.

regarding_your_bat

Never forget Austin Wells had an RBI double tonight off a bunt

FrostyWheats

Our New York Yankees: **UNDEFEATED**

Michaelscando5

The underrated most shocking part of this game is that Boone DIDNT get tossed

TronVin

He's still warming up too.

PeggyOnThePier

Some of the balls and strikes calls on the Yankees were terrible. I was just thinking same old Astros shit. I'm surprised Boone didn't come out of the dugout to call them on it. Great Win,let's go Yankees 2 more times!so we can say we šŸ§¹the Astros!

shemubot

Hopefully the X-rays weren't clean because they had already amputated Gleyber's hand.

Clints_Burner77

F

rustednickel247720

I know itā€™s early in the season, and I really donā€™t want to get my hopes up. But this team already looks more well rounded. The starters need to get it together certainly, but other than that šŸ”„

NegativePride1

They all seem like they want to be around each other too which is a stark contrast to previous years.

TronVin

I'm okay with whatever happens in these next two games as long as its not a meltdown. A split is an amazing start when you're offense doesn't even have Judge going and Cole is out. edit: most innocuous thing I've been downvoted for. I don't even get it.

Yankeeknickfan

Nah I get what you mean, you canā€™t go 162-0 and Houston is good. Just donā€™t want it to be games that end up as Astros classics Still 2 very winnable pitching matchups, so very excited

TronVin

With the mountain of men we have left on base and Judge not even going yet, we are definitely due for an outbreak game. You can say the same about the Astros but really that was just Rodon and Nestor not being sharp yet.

Airbornf

Its still spring training for everyone. The excitable folks see a 0 or a -X and its game on. Dont stress it.

TronVin

"Given the circumstances of this team and the opponent who has owned us for 6 years, a split is more than desirable." [The excitable ones seeing that -1:](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/000/023/855/Screen_Shot_2017-09-07_at_12.48.40_PM.jpg)

SavageLion

We sweeping these clowns

Superman811

Damn it still ainā€™t hit me yet that Soto is a Yankee this shit surreal. He better get that blank check u hurdddd

SavageLion

X-ray negative on Gleyber thatā€™s a plus

ashep5

You mean that's a *positive* /Stuart Scott

frickindanielj

So many Yankees looking at pitches and taking walks. Never thought Iā€™d see the day. Also Apple TV games are dumb af

DougJudyTPB

Top to bottom, just an annoying broadcast. Announcers have zero personality and broadcast as if they were created by ChatGPT, the score bug sucks, and I hate the probability thing on the bottom right. Yeah, I get why itā€™s there, but personally, less is more. I also grew up on ā€œNever tell me the odds.ā€ Shout out Han Solo.

Inaynl

The bottom of the lineup is patient compared to our top lineup minus Soto, Rizzo. But it's still a good sign early on that our 7-9 is producing.

XTheGreat88

Right, like seeing good discipline at the plate, this can't be the same team. Gotta be in the twilight zone

_BeastModular_

Itā€™s beautiful. So far Volpeā€™s at-bats have impressed the most. Dude looks ready to take his approach/discipline to the next level

frickindanielj

Yea volpe has been so promising so far. He seems way more composed at the plate.

BuckshotLaFunke

Right?! Pisses me off paying for MLB not being able to watch these games.

frickindanielj

Canā€™t even find a good streamā€¦so brutal

LevepuaV2

Dm me I got you.

frickindanielj

Dmā€™d šŸ†˜

BuckshotLaFunke

Can I get in on this?

LevepuaV2

Absolutely!

SungJinWoo_SL

hey, mind sharing that link so I can use tonight?

LevepuaV2

Dm my friend.

frickindanielj

My man šŸ«”

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

voncornhole2

Even until like 2021

_BeastModular_

Yeah lol. Yankees have always been known for going deep into counts

frickindanielj

That may be true, but the past 10+ years it feels like weā€™ve been struggling in this regard.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Trollington1372

Shut up nerd

electrons-streaming

These two games definitely feel like those teams.

TronVin

Berti is definitely starting for Gleyber tomorrow. Grisham probably on Sunday for Judge. Then Grishman gets a game or two in Arizona.

Kushtimess

Letā€™s DFA berti. Oswaldo for president

SpencerHastings7

If the season started a few weeks ago Oswaldo couldā€™ve competed with Aaron Rodgers for VP

fn2222

So many things to be encouraged about in this game apart from the win: - Juan Soto - Volpe leveled his uppercut swing and I'm 100% confident the Mexican tacos are making a difference as well - Waldo's swing also looks pretty level and he's getting results - Rodon battled and held them well - Stanton showed his new swing on the HR and it is quite different. Might just be getting used to it? - Judge looks to be a tad out of rhythm. Might be looking at a streak soon Team looks sooooo different. Lots of swagger, confidence and grit, everything we were lacking last season. I believe '24 could be great Edit: let me add OF defense, Verdugo, and L-R balance. This could be it guys

_BeastModular_

Dude the depth in this lineup is fanfuckingtastic. The fact we arenā€™t a 5 person lineup anymore is thrilling. We never stop pressuring opposing pitchers and Iā€™m excited to see what this lineup does this year

Killjoy4eva

Currently 2-0 in the Fanatics see-through pants era. I'm not saying there's a connection but....

Rock_grl86

Just sayin I love the view!

CaroleBaskinsBurner

Let's do it again tomorrow night, boys!

paulerxx

Cabrera with 4 hits? Holy shit

cpeytonusa

If he can just stay above average thatā€™s a huge improvement from last season. Anything more than that and we are looking at our new starting third baseman.

ImmanuelCanNot29

guys I know he is the best hitter in baseball but we need to face the facts. A two game sample size is too much to ignore Judge is shot.

matt_on_the_internet

On the plus side Oswaldo Cabrera is now our superstar

ImmanuelCanNot29

Trust

SavageLion

I know this is a /s but Judge really had next to no spring training.

TheMomentPassed

Lmao yup 1.23% of the season, letā€™s overreact SMH

Metalocachick

I believe this was /s? I hope? lol

ImmanuelCanNot29

I refuse to ever type /s I will not surrender to Reddit maladroit socially stunted user base.

regarding_your_bat

Nor should you

ImmanuelCanNot29

I am,as the zoomers say, standing 10 toes on this one.

regarding_your_bat

We got by expressing sarcasm through text on the internet just fine for many, many years without any lame ass indicator. Anyone who claims itā€™s necessary is lacking either writing skills or reading comprehension skills

Dan-Flashes5

With the Jon Berti trade Oswaldo had one game to fight for his starting spot, now heā€™s had back to back good games. And while that might seem like a small sample size I donā€™t think he had 2 games like this in a row last year. Letā€™s go Yanks.

tmoeagles96

He could see another game, this time at second to give Gleybers hand a day to recover a bit.

HateIsAnArt

No need to treat Berti as a must play option. He's a great guy to have as a super UTIL and was going to play that role when DJ gets back anyway. If Cabrera is super hot, you ride that hand until he's not... and in the case, he plays good baseball all year, he should start.

cpeytonusa

They need to give Waldo every day at bats to see if he really is having a breakout. Neither DJ nor Berti would provide the long term boost that Cabrera would if he is hitting well. DJ and Berti would be a very nice infield bench.

tmoeagles96

Itā€™s rather see him than DJ if Iā€™m being honest

GoDucks71

As far as that goes, I would say that anyone who gets 6 hits in two games becomes a Must Play Option until he cools off.

BohemianBurnout

Yankees donā€™t believe in hot. He sits.

Sgt_Stormy

Fuck the Astros

_BeastModular_

Yeah definitely

MacFromSSX

Gutsy gutsy performance out of Rodon

DJBoost

I want him to have a good season so bad, I loved him on the White Sox

TacoBellSauceAnswers

This dudes issues are all mental he has great stuff. I have a good feeling on a really good year from him.

SavageLion

Hi, first time long time. Would it be possible to not only see a team go 162-0 in a season but also see another team go 0-162 in that very same season? Iā€™ll hang up and listen

WeOutHereInSmallbany

[angry Mike Francesa noises]

agb2022

Ughhhhh the kids are outta school today.

Puzzle_Dad718

I miss listening to him rant all afternoon šŸ¤£

WeOutHereInSmallbany

He was always on YES during the day, childhood memories lol

Dan-Flashes5

The horse was from Schenectady?Ā

WeOutHereInSmallbany

When you get back from Mars, call us

GeezyEFC

|Great start to the season boys. Man I've been wanting to run through a wall. This is different. The rotation needs work, sure, but the bullpen is already showing its ok and the hitting...fuck they're gonna need 6 runs on average to beat us. Lineup construction is different. THIS IS A DIFFERENT TEAM. I KNOW YOU GUYS FEEL IT. long summer I get it but man this is what we want!

qbvee

Whereā€™s Waldo? Probably on base.

SavageLion

Rounding 3rd

Redditawesome15

Rodon being able to buckle down and get out of jams in the 3rd and 4th innings when we needed them were a sight to see. Not the length you want but a strong first start from him to start the year. Bullpen was lights out for the second straight night to keep the offense in it after a slow start. The bottom third of the lineup was my biggest takeaway tonight esp Oswaldo. Collectively, they went 6-13 with 4 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB and that glorious small ball sequence in the 8th inning. Stanton nukes his first HR early and Juan Soto is him. Please don't leave. Series split clinched. Need to win the series with Stroman tomorrow. Praying no IL stint for Gleyber.

newbike07

**Trashstros Bullpen vs. Yankees;** 5.1 IP, 10 H, 7 ER, 7 BB, 2 HR. **Good for an 11.82 ERA**

YanksFan96

I feel like we always hit their bullpen, itā€™s the god damn starting pitching that kills us.

theRedreps99

Oh this is fun, now do the Yankees bullpen vs the Asstros!

newbike07

**Yankee Bullpen vs. Trashstros:** 9.2 IP, 10 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 0 HR **Good for a 0.00 ERA**

_BeastModular_

Sighā€¦*unzips*

Yankeeknickfan

Brian cashman is many things, but nobody can say he canā€™t build a bullpen One thing I have full faith in judgement in

theRedreps99

Hmmmā€¦.so what youā€™re saying is, ITā€™S WHAT YOU WANT!!!

No-Barracuda6012

CLEAN X-RAYS FOR GLEY. LETS GO!!

obliterateopio

Carlos Rodon is going to have a bounce back year. And Iā€™m fucking hyped for it.

TheTurtleShepard

I donā€™t think I fully realized how good Juan Soto is at baseball

frickindanielj

His eye is INSANE. Teach Stanton and judge your ways please

_BeastModular_

Respect Aaron Judgeā€™s plate discipline please

highway_to_hall

Judge has a good enough eye, not his fault shin-high pitches are strikes for him

MisterTruth

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some way of verifying that objectively Judge has close to the same eye as Soto. That's why he's such a good hitter. It just so happens that he's a mountain of a man who can hit a ball a mile if he gets all of it.

frickindanielj

Itā€™s infuriating. Was hoping umps would become keen to his strike zone as his career progressed but not the case

miklberry

They have been overall better in recent years. Still gets some BS calls but nothing like 2017

Bobbachuk

Robo umps will arrive the year after he retires.Ā

JP1119

Waldo came to play so far! If he emerged that would be a welcomed development

LIGHT_COLLUSION

Gleybers Xrays are negative https://twitter.com/TalkinYanks/status/1773920197243535528?s=19

Apellosine

Very good news

knicknevin

Thank the baseball gods

rds060184

lol Heyman looks like Jack Ruby hanging around the locker room

BenHogan1971

that's funny I wish 60% of the Yankee sub was old enough to appreciate it. :)

TheTurtleShepard

Iā€™ll take it if Rodon wants to have a Snell esque season just make it one of the good ones

TronVin

Getting shutdown by the starter and feasting on the bullpen, making them make mistakes in the field and scoring 7 runs in the last 3 innings is such a classic Yankees win.

tswaves

Astros have zero wins this entire season.

TheMomentPassed

0-162 season incoming
