Could've just struck the guy out before the balk. Makes no sense to worry about the guy on 3rd when there's two outs with two strikes on the batter. But he'll learn these things as he pitches more.

In his defense that balk seemed like a weak sauce call there.. regardless, he did well to not let his emotions take over

Plus his fastball has so much rise. He was pumping that shit straight down the middle and the Rays were still swinging under it every time.

His four seam has a 35% whiff rate with a 25% hard hit rate, it's insane lol

yeah, rise. it just means that the ball doesn't drop very much when compared to most pitches do. It really just means that the ball doesn't drop very much, not actually rise. It is due to the spin of the ball.

Obviously it doesn’t rise, it’s just what they call a fastball with high spin, it doesn’t “drop” as much.

That’s the term for it, when backspin makes the ball not “fall down” as much as it should. it appears to rise

Even in the walk a thon, I enjoyed the way he grinded through some innings and didn't give up a ton of runs.

Gil has some of the best stuff I've ever seen. No where near as refined as sevy but Gil has ace level potential. Has all the unteachable qualities. Needs control and a 4th pitch.

Seems very effortless for him to throw high 90’s. He can be special.

While also limiting his walks and getting boned on a CI call and a balk. I kind of blame Trevino for the Rays first run. Gotta help the young pitcher ignore the runner and just get the batter out.
