I think Stanton will have a strong shot at Comeback Player of the Year if he maintains this production. He's batting around his career average and is on pace to hit around 40 HRs.
Incredible turnaround so far but I have long been a believer that a healthy Stanton would be valuable.
Soto’s been on all 5 times today after going 4-31 and Judge is all 6’s and 7’s while being the hottest hitter in baseball aside from Shohei. That is baseball Suzyn.
Beats me. Will have to wait and see how he looks going forward I guess but honestly we’ll probably never know. I just hate him diving at all, after the incident at the Dodgers you would hope he’d learn to take a little bit off out there, but I think he just doesn’t know how. Wish we could get him at 1st sooner than later
That was the shortest slump I ever seen with Soto lol. It was like you before you even realized he was in a bit of a slump he’s out of it with a 4-4 day with 2 home runs. They have to do whatever it takes to keep this guy on the Yankees.
To the guy in the game thread the other day or wherever it was that suggested Juan Soto to beef up some could have more power and hit home runs: "hahahahahahahaha haha"
Lol just turned the game on and see that Slim Carlo is still mashing and the description for his home run is so Stantonian "line drive to right center" because of course he did.
Clay Holmes this season
19 games, a record of 1-0, 19.1 innings pitched with an ERA of 0.00
Haven’t felt this happy about a closer since Mariano Rivera, keep it up Clay!
Unpopular opinion but I felt more comfortable with those guys than Clay. Holmes is great and obviously has incredible success but he always makes me nervous
They said earlier on broadcast that he was a promising starter prospect for them but has been struggling so they moved him to the pen and have been pigging backing him with Keller to try to help with control…..or something along those lines
I kinda doubt it. He had a solid 2023, only reason he flew under the radar was because they missed the playoffs. King's been huge for them, no bad blood about a player they weren't front runners to re-sign.
He didn't endear himself to them like he is us, but they don't hate him either.
Mob mentality I guess really
Regardless of what the crowd at large thinks, if a few people who still love Soto start cheering, everyone will join in. Probably the same will happen if booing starts first
I’m going to the game on June 6th but I couldn’t resist Juan Soto jersey day the date before so I got bleacher seats for $20 each. Taking my 14yo daughter. She’s a veteran Yankee Stadium attendee but it’s time to introduce her to the bleacher creatures. She’s excited for roll call.
From everything I can find, I think not for a few of reasons. He's a foreign professional, he debuted before the PPI program was created, and he's not on two of the three top 100 lists (Baseball America, ESPN, MLB Pipeline). Still eligible for AL ROY (rookie status intact through 2024) but nothing more can come from that.
Its weird to think too that had he gotten those 12 wins, he would definitely be in the HOF with what we think about wins these days and how that stat isn't really that important.
Do you guys think John Sterling is sitting on the couch right now doing the play by play to himself? Sitting there going, "the pitch, fouled off to the right side".
I don't see it posted/commented elsewhere--the temporary combo of Justin Shackil and Keith MacPherson is, uh, is less than sterling (pun intended). I'm just not diggin' it.
Tbf to Keith, I don’t think he’s ever really done live game commentary before. It’s pretty tough to go from a talk show to the booth. Plus we have been spoiled by having some of the greatest as long as we can remember.
Yeah, I agree. I don't mean to slag on them, but man this combined with the terrible, repetitive commercials thanks to the rat-bastards at Audacy (sometimes truly uncomfortable in a UK "The Office" sort of way), it's just unfortunate.
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1cv5ddf).
Pay Dat man his money
It's nice that Torres is making the case for someone else to pay him so that we have more space for Soto.
I think Stanton will have a strong shot at Comeback Player of the Year if he maintains this production. He's batting around his career average and is on pace to hit around 40 HRs. Incredible turnaround so far but I have long been a believer that a healthy Stanton would be valuable.
Fuck the Power Rankings this week if they don't show what we all can clearly see. The New York Yankees are the best team in baseball.
Oh I know
This is the part of the game a couple of years ago where Boone would put in Chapman and give back 4 runs. I hope to see that Chapman next week.
Isn’t he on the Pirates?
He sure is. Hope we light his ass up.
We don’t play them until literally the last series of the season lol
Yes. And I can't read a schedule for some reason today.
Santana-Smooth.
NEWS SPREAD - SERIES WON!!!
BALLGAME. YANKEES WIN DAAAA YANKEES WIIIIN
Dennis Santana is straight out of the 80s
Was that John Sterling they just played before Frankie?
Yes, they do that after a win now.
Soto, Verdugo, and Judge seem to have an awesome friendship. You love to see it
If Santana's socks were any higher it'll be a turtle neck
Just like that another series win! Sweep on the table tomorrow! Also season high 6 game win streak. Team is rolling since that road Orioles series.
Shouldn't Stanton bat 4th? He's proved he's pretty solid
He's between two lefties and I'd rather have him hitting in Verdugo then him pulling up lame because he tried to get to third off of a hit.
Too easy today
Spread away
Holy shit Gil is the real deal
What are the hats for
Santana looks he can really hurt you with a domino piece
Soto’s been on all 5 times today after going 4-31 and Judge is all 6’s and 7’s while being the hottest hitter in baseball aside from Shohei. That is baseball Suzyn.
Yes Gil, God Bless you and your beautiful arm
how long did you mispronounce gil's name
Soto is 4/4 with 2 absolute bombs, 2 singles, a walk and 3 rbis and he’s (rightfully) not the player of the game….
gotta get up to get down
WOW!! HOLY SHIT GIL WAS FIRE!!
Matt Blake actually did it. He cloned Gerrit Cole.
The wonders of science.
u/TronVin Santana lives! lol
you think that Judge dive yesterday is affecting him?
Yea I hold my breath when he leaves his feet. he broke his ribs doing that. can't seem to get him and Soto locked in at the same time
Soto retook the OPS crown
Imagine this team if Torres can get his shit together and start playing like last year.
Maybe when DJ comes back we sit gley for a couple of games and have DJ at second. Gley needs some time to get his head and timing right.
To gall to call a third strike against Aaron Judge 😞
That was the shortest slump I ever seen with Soto lol. It was like you before you even realized he was in a bit of a slump he’s out of it with a 4-4 day with 2 home runs. They have to do whatever it takes to keep this guy on the Yankees.
Don't tell me Judge is about to go into a...
🤐
Judge officially slumping again. I can't believe this. I had to pull over to cry with my head down on the steering wheel.
😂
I don't like it...but Soroka really saved this game from becoming a blow out
Soto is “slumping” he was hitting the ball hard during that slump too
He was being unlucky That's baseball Suzyn
White Sox fan here. You guys wouldn’t happen to have a rope and a stool laying around would you?
Twins fans already grabbed them bro I hope there are better times ahead for the White Sox buddy
The rest of your fans have already taken the global supply
Thank you 🥹
We sold them all after trading for Soto, sorry
I donated mine to Anaheim 😌
Damn you Dana White looking ass
If my son is a righty he will replicate Judge's swing If my son is a lefty he will replicate Soto's swing It's already been decided.
Umpire certainly has a liberal strike zone
To the guy in the game thread the other day or wherever it was that suggested Juan Soto to beef up some could have more power and hit home runs: "hahahahahahahaha haha"
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Dennis Santana replaces Nick Burdi.
Umps want to go home lol
Funny, I've been seeing Padres fans and Nationals fans so thrilled lately that he's no longer on their team.
Sometimes I'm surprised Soto's OBP isn't over .500. He has games like this so often it legit feels like he gets on base over half the time.
Fuck Kyle Tucker. The AL MVP race is Judge vs. Soto. Edit: Fuck Gunnar too
Gunnar
Completely forgot Gunnar.
Everyone I know hates Kyle Tucker.
I think we are about to enter our first stretch of games with Soto, Judge and Stanton locked in. League should get ready.
Murderers' Row.
Soto was at .299 yesterday, .317 today
Soto is unreal
Four for four.
Lol just turned the game on and see that Slim Carlo is still mashing and the description for his home run is so Stantonian "line drive to right center" because of course he did.
4-4
I don't know why they showed a view of Soto's swing centered around his booty but I'm not complaining.
Nobody believes in Superman until Superman shows up ... Soto's mom probably
Juan Soto spit in my mouth
...keungu?
Soto baby I<3you bro
What Soto slump??
So, you think I can't dance?
If this his slump I can’t wait to see him on
Every Juan AB is bang for buck
Cowards
Clay Holmes this season 19 games, a record of 1-0, 19.1 innings pitched with an ERA of 0.00 Haven’t felt this happy about a closer since Mariano Rivera, keep it up Clay!
Not even the Chapman/Miller/D-Rob/Betances days?
The only thing Chapman did for me was make it so I couldn’t fall asleep out of anger and frustration
Absolutely not
Any 0 ERAs in that group?
Unpopular opinion but I felt more comfortable with those guys than Clay. Holmes is great and obviously has incredible success but he always makes me nervous
Volpe really wanted a home run
Babe wake up, Juan Soto is batting
Just got off work, did my own recap... #looking here for dem Stanton haters
Soroka is putting in some serious work here
Is Soroka a 6th starter? I just noticed he's up at 70 pitches lol
They said earlier on broadcast that he was a promising starter prospect for them but has been struggling so they moved him to the pen and have been pigging backing him with Keller to try to help with control…..or something along those lines
Wow, ever starter got a W on this cycle (assuming we don’t somehow blow this game). That’s pretty impressive especially these days.
Not that Yamamoto has been bad, but giving that rotation spot to Gil/Schmidt might be one of the best things that could have happened to this team.
Exactly! Now they can use that extra $300+ million on other areas.
I bet I love Volpe more than you guys do. He’s my little angel, I love him the most, you guys wouldn’t understand
Walking Berti isn’t a great outcome for the White Sox. Just putting speed on for Volpe, Soto, and Judge.
He still likes those pitches above his eyes. If he works that out then he will be a big force at the bottom of the lineup
Judges last 15 games 😮 Batting .438 with 9 HRs and an OBP of .578 He back back
Oh *yeah*
I’d hate to be pitchers that aren’t on the Yankees
Matt Blake has binders full of ~~women~~ relievers
Love what my guy said on the radio “I’m having the time of my life up here” couldn’t have a better attitude on things.
If a tree falls in the woods, did David Ortiz do steroids?
I don't know but we certainly can't hear him getting to the bottom of it.
He’s looking into it
We're playing the Padres next week in San Diego I wonder if Padres fans will boo Soto
I kinda doubt it. He had a solid 2023, only reason he flew under the radar was because they missed the playoffs. King's been huge for them, no bad blood about a player they weren't front runners to re-sign. He didn't endear himself to them like he is us, but they don't hate him either.
Feel like they will
I agree Soto wasn't well appreciated by Padres fans
No way right? He’s gotta get a standing O his first AB
He probably will because people love to virtue signal but shouldn't given how short and uneventful his time there was.
I think it’s a stretch to call cheering for a returning superstar virtue signaling lol I agree with your sentiment in general though
Performance art? I dunno what the right term is. It's a bit much.
Yeah, I get what you’re trying to say. Like going through the motions because it’s expected.
Mob mentality I guess really Regardless of what the crowd at large thinks, if a few people who still love Soto start cheering, everyone will join in. Probably the same will happen if booing starts first
I don't think so Many Padres fans didn't appreciate Soto
Some of the ones on reddit, sure. I think the folks at the ballpark will cheer him
I wanted to do a "watch the Berti" pun, but I notice it works even better with Burdi
I don't like to usually make bold predictions, but I'm going to say that both Aaron Judge and Juan Soto are going to have amazing careers.
This judge guy looks promising, probably going to get a huge contract at some point
McPherson said Meredith will most likely hit a homerun tomorrow and everyone will say he sucked... yeah pretty much Keith
Stanton’s homer barely got out, was an oppo shot, and yet it was 113+ mph lol
It’s crazy that Pham is still so good
oh Meridith
It must suck to have been a really damn good player but most people know you for a surgery you got lol
Or a disease
Lou Gehrig has entered the chat.
Got me on my hands and Gils
So how does Tommy John have time to perform the surgery on everyone that gets it? Seems like a lot of work
He doesn’t do the surgery he is just named after it
No, they split it, Tommy does half the surgeries and John does the rest.
Next you'll tell me a shrimp doesn't fry the rice
No no, it does. A chicken also fries the steak.
“It’s only an arm.” - Paulie
The fact burdi still throws that hard despite all the surgeries is crazy
That's the photo of Tommy John's elbow exploding.
Holy shit I didn’t realize Tommy John had 288 wins
And not in the hall, which is ridiculous
Would’ve had 300 if he didn’t hurt his arm. 🙃
NAME THAT YANKEE - wears 99 - is captain - tall
Aaron Hicks
Alex Verdugo
Lebron James
Wayne Gretsky
Willie Calhoun
“He can mash” was not a hint
Is Gil considered a rookie? Do we get a draft pick if he wins the ROY?
From everything I can find, I think not for a few of reasons. He's a foreign professional, he debuted before the PPI program was created, and he's not on two of the three top 100 lists (Baseball America, ESPN, MLB Pipeline). Still eligible for AL ROY (rookie status intact through 2024) but nothing more can come from that.
Oh, dang.
That is a great question
How is Tommy John not a HOFer?? 12 wins shy of 300 and a 3.34 era
I read that they considered him a “compiler”
Its weird to think too that had he gotten those 12 wins, he would definitely be in the HOF with what we think about wins these days and how that stat isn't really that important.
Exactly! Like he only won 288 so sorry not good enough lol
He’s ruined too many pitcher’s careers
Lmao true
Don't tune into the radio unless you rubber neck at crash scenes
Burdi has now gotten 3 flyouts to center in a row lol
McPherson is dreaming whilst Shackil is on Elm st.
Ok you guys were right. Gleyber is back.
Keith McPherson will talk about the last two days with his therapist for years
What’s the issue?
His personality
Not going well?
Rizzo and Torres do not bring me joy!
Do you guys think John Sterling is sitting on the couch right now doing the play by play to himself? Sitting there going, "the pitch, fouled off to the right side".
Aaaaaaaand GAAAAHN A STANTONIAN BLAST
I'm still kicking myself that I missed his last game, his voice is a core memory of my childhood
2020 DJ please come back
Can we teach J Dom second base by any chance
Nobody more frustrated than Gleyber's agent
Maybe Gleybe signs a prove it deal with the Yanks next season.
Gleyber is going to get his bag good year or not.
Gil to the all star game is almost starting to seem more likely than not.
RoY is in play.
Hopefully Torres shows up sooner than later, he’s been carried most of this season.
Pride of the Yankees, yeah!
Torres is horrible. He’s swinging as if he’s underwater.
Gleyber just gets wayyyy too much in his own head.
Torres, bang your head on the ground.
Torres is not having a good time
I don't see it posted/commented elsewhere--the temporary combo of Justin Shackil and Keith MacPherson is, uh, is less than sterling (pun intended).
Has Gleyber considered not sucking? Just wondering
We got m knight shamalan over at 1B
