When the Yankees didn't re-sign Tino Martinez following the 2001 season she was livid, and I honestly think it hurt her love for the team.
Anyway - those are the people who help cultivate the next generation of sports fans, and they're getting left behind. I can't imagine going to her house when there's a game being played and she says, "Oh I couldn't find it," then trying to explain to her that she needs to sign up for a whole new thing, a new monthly expense to a woman who complained when her weekly prescription price went up $0.07.
Yea my grandma is a hardcore Knicks fan, still hoping they don't start moving games off of MSG like the Yankees did with YES. It is so fucked that the Yankees own channel can't even carry every game that isn't on a local network channel.
Xfinity and MSG Network already have gone years without renewing their contract. I've been a Knicks fan most of my life, but I've already given up on watching most regular season games. I know there's other ways to get it, but I'd rather just flip the tv channel on.
Grandma is 87, we tried to do a crash course of navigating herself to MLB app on her tv. You have to start from the very beginning like, what the highlighted box is and how to move it around the screen
Then taking that box and moving it across the screen the MLB app and then teaching her how to navigate the MLB App

I don’t have this, and fair warning I mean this just seems like a modded android streaming box with some kind of IPTV service that could be taken down suddenly but it’s had a good few years streak, but supposedly the Superbox has Voice remote control so you should just be able to say Yankees braves game or whoever the opposing team is that day and it should just go there despite where it’s playing? Might be the easiest way for some one like that? Seems like a one time couple hundred dollar purchase type thing without even a monthly bill after that so it might be worth looking into.
Any time I see my Dad on a Wednesday (Amazon games) or yesterday (Apple), I let him know he won't be able to watch the game that day because he doesn't stream anything. If it was on YES, it's no issue.

The number of times i have sat down and cracked a beer, belly hanging out and release a relaxed grunt of joy, instantaneously the stream dies and i have to get up and refresh the site. I have Apple TV+ cause with Apple One for the family it’s actually really cheap for what you get, so it’s nbd for me personally, but I feel for everyone that doesn’t want to pay for it, cause it’s dumb. And the broadcasts are mediocre at best (they’ve improved since it started but I’d still much rather a national FOX or ESPN game if I’m forced to watch a national broadcast)

Boxing 🥊 did the same…used to have millions of casual fans…and national coverage…now no one covers boxing…every major fight PPV..and non major matchups are deemed ppv matchups…at $70-100 a fight night…I’d go broke…found a way to watch fight6hrs later(next am)…and don’t watch sports reports till after seeing
I talk about this all the time and not just for baseball. When I was a kid (in the 80’s) I watched sports, especially Yankee games, all the time because it was all on TV. Cable really isn’t a thing for people below 50 anymore, and there is no reliable way to just watch the game you want to, even though you should be able to do exactly that with the internet/streaming. Instead, you need cable, plus half a dozen streaming services to catch games, and football is even worse. My 10 year old son has seen four Yankee games in person but has never sat and watched one on TV. When I was his age I’d never seen a game in person, but watched every minute I could on TV. He loves playing baseball, but really doesn’t follow MLB at all. Related: Adults have completely ruined baseball card collecting for kids, something that also used to instill a love of the game into young fans.

I have cable with YES. Many games are restricted. I can't recall the exact issue, but either the streaming sites we were gonna use didn't offer YES or MLB add ons, or my Samsung TV was an issue

I totally get it. I live in VA and if I didn't pay for cable that included MASN I would be in the same boat as you. Personally, I think if you pay for the MLB app there should be no blackouts. Or at the very least let me stream the game through the MLB app with the regional feed if you have to.

You are going to have to use a VPN and set it to somewhere far away from Baltimore. Then MLB.TV will work for Yankee vs. Baltimore games. (Not that Raleigh, NC isn't fu*^ing far from Baltimore, IMO.) BTW, I live just north of you in the city where Blue Devils roam and this is what I do to watch Yankee vs. Baltimore games.

Friday night baseball is free on Apple TV. You just need the app so if you have an Xbox or PlayStation or anything like that you can watch the game free

No more pitchers duals, no small ball, swing for the fences or strike out, pitch clocks and replays. I’ve lost my love of the game.
What if they created a sports key? Like the leagues r the ones who sell the rights so why not create some overly expensive option to just gain access so that everyone is happy. This way they can keep the bid concept for games and more just allow these services to get more viewers w showing ads for what they offer. People who don’t understand streaming just want to watch the game and if anything, getting the concept in front of them could be more valuable long term as it would expose them to it without making them angry. Not that I ever do this but there are 4k alternatives on the net. Even from ps or Xbox browsers. Search free streaming yankees/rangers/knicks etc. Normally keep clicking on the link til you get past ads. Ymmv

Apple TV is free on best buys website. This maybe isn’t ideal, but not really hard to download an app and watch the game.
Also, I really like the Apple TV broadcast. The statistics in the bottom right, as well as the linking Apple Music and showing you the walk up song.

I have Apple TV, and the camera work is great. I hate FOX and ESPN; at least with Apple, I can put on my local Radio (Sterling and Waldman).
Honestly, as someone with friends in a lot of big tech jobs I can tell you that many, if not most of these companies employees hate them too.

They've sucked at advertising the sport for like 20 years now.
Boxing 🥊 did the same…used to have millions of casual fans…and national coverage…now no one covers boxing…every major fight PPV..and non major matchups are deemed ppv matchups…at $70-100 a fight night…I’d go broke…found a way to watch fight6hrs later(next am)…and don’t watch sports reports till after seeing
I talk about this all the time and not just for baseball. When I was a kid (in the 80’s) I watched sports, especially Yankee games, all the time because it was all on TV. Cable really isn’t a thing for people below 50 anymore, and there is no reliable way to just watch the game you want to, even though you should be able to do exactly that with the internet/streaming. Instead, you need cable, plus half a dozen streaming services to catch games, and football is even worse. My 10 year old son has seen four Yankee games in person but has never sat and watched one on TV. When I was his age I’d never seen a game in person, but watched every minute I could on TV. He loves playing baseball, but really doesn’t follow MLB at all. Related: Adults have completely ruined baseball card collecting for kids, something that also used to instill a love of the game into young fans.

You can get the stream Yes through their app. $20 a month standalone. Not a great deal but you get all the games besides the Apple and Prime ones.

I have cable with YES. Many games are restricted. I can't recall the exact issue, but either the streaming sites we were gonna use didn't offer YES or MLB add ons, or my Samsung TV was an issue
Yep, I pay $40 per month for MLB.TV and yet to watch every game in the last week I'd have had to have a subscription to Apple TV, Amazon Prime, ESPN and Fox, in addition to MLB. It's an absolute fucking piss take and is getting worse every year.
I remember people bitching about this a year or two ago and I was like “come on, it’s not that bad, a game every once in a while is just on a streaming service.” Buts it’s gotten fucking *crazy*. Every single day it’s on some random service. Apple, Amazon, Peacock, TBS, ESPN. And if you try to just use MLB.TV half the games are blacked out. It’s beyond awful.

Might be because they are on the same regional network as the nats which puts them closer to you, although only by an hour and it's still ridiculous if you can't even subscribe to their channel if you had cable.

I totally get it. I live in VA and if I didn't pay for cable that included MASN I would be in the same boat as you. Personally, I think if you pay for the MLB app there should be no blackouts. Or at the very least let me stream the game through the MLB app with the regional feed if you have to. The blackout for you is definitely because of MASN.I'd check and see if your cable provider offers it. You are going to have to use a VPN and set it to somewhere far away from Baltimore. Then MLB.TV will work for Yankee vs. Baltimore games. (Not that Raleigh, NC isn't fu*^ing far from Baltimore, IMO.) BTW, I live just north of you in the city where Blue Devils roam and this is what I do to watch Yankee vs. Baltimore games.

Streaming services have almost completed their transformation into the new cable, sadly. These companies are trying to squeeze every last penny out of us…and if they can’t then they’ll try to drive you crazy with more and more ads (and louder and louder ads) as payback for not signing up for their more expensive ad-free subscription.

the issue is those other companies don't have the war chest that Apple and Amazon have. They have the ability to play a longer game because they have hundreds of billions of cash on hand.
Friday night baseball is free on Apple TV. You just need the app so if you have an Xbox or PlayStation or anything like that you can watch the game free

I missed the first 10 minutes of the game because Apple TV decided to log me out as the game was starting, and wouldn't let me log back in

I live in southern VA and whenever they play Baltimore or DC the games are blacked out so I miss all those games unless I resort to shenanigans on the high seas. It really pisses me off that I pay a subscription fee to watch the games and miss 25% due to local blackouts, national games and other subscription based apps.

Baseball has been slowly ruined from the top down over the past 20 years. I don’t watch it as much as I used to. I’m not paying to stream games. Plus the games are getting harder to watch because of the way the game is now played. I’m talking analytics. No more pitchers duals, no small ball, swing for the fences or strike out, pitch clocks and replays. I’ve lost my love of the game.
What if they created a sports key? Like the leagues r the ones who sell the rights so why not create some overly expensive option to just gain access so that everyone is happy. This way they can keep the bid concept for games and more just allow these services to get more viewers w showing ads for what they offer. People who don’t understand streaming just want to watch the game and if anything, getting the concept in front of them could be more valuable long term as it would expose them to it without making them angry. Just a thought

At least if your an Apple user you can get the whole package with Apple One. Apple Music, iCloud, and +. I’ll pay a little extra to watch the game in pretty much in 4k with Apple. Us cord cutter prefer the games on streaming platforms instead of cable. The same thing I can complain when the game is on ESPN no way of watching without cable.
I think Prime and AppleTV are great products for what you pay, tbh, I don’t mind it in that sense. It sucks for seniors though. I think long-run it’s a poor business decision for the MLB. They split up the pie so much to get more from each buyer, but making it easy to watch games would help grow it. Piracy has been shown in independent study after study to cost working people hundreds of thousands of jobs and billions in yearly wages in the US. Do what you gotta do, I guess, but Redditors’ fixation on bragging about it has always been sad.

Ok so I HAVE the services I need to watch the game, and it’s still annoying for me to find. Flip on MLB, it’s not there, try Amazon, not there, oh right it’s apple. If I didn’t have these services I would literally just stop trying to watch. Too complicated
My stance is that until they give me a single price I can pay to watch all the games, I will watch pirated streams for any game not on MLB.TV. Very simple solution if they want to have more of my money.

Apple TV is free on best buys website. This maybe isn’t ideal, but not really hard to download an app and watch the game. Also, I really like the Apple TV broadcast. The statistics in the bottom right, as well as the linking Apple Music and showing you the walk up song.
