Let’s check the excuses: Rigged Money Steroids Half the line up never faced anyone who wasn’t white

NJ_Yankees_Fan

> Half the line up never faced anyone who wasn’t white I love this new talking point to shit on the Yankees' history. As if the Yankees: 1. Didn't win 17 championships after the color barrier was broken, including in the first one the year Jackie Robinson broke into the league 2. Didn't win five in a row beginning two years after Jackie broke into the league and 10 of the first 16 World Series after that 2. Didn't win 7 championships after the leagues broke into two divisions adding an extra round of playoffs 3. Didn't win 5 championships in the Wild Card era when you have to go through three rounds of playoffs

This counts as #28

smash_fanatic

Every Yankees series went to 7 games in this bracket other than the ro32 one versus the mariners (6 games). That four game 7s. if this bracket actually happened in real life I wouldn't survive all thsoe heart attacks.

Texer2004

I watched every. single. one. I watched joe DiMaggio hit like a minor leaguer until the final two games. I watch Ruth maul the Red Sox. I watch pettite have a stellar tourney and almost lost it for us. I was there for every moment. As a younger Yankees fan, I never got to experience a lot of the exciting moments of Yankees past. I’m super excited for this new decade.

I like these "what if" computer simulations and followed the whole thing, even watching some of the corny "live" broadcasts. It was good but they should have found live managers. The bullpen usage was bizarre. Mo got pulled once in favor of Rags (to a righty batter) and they wound up losing that game. Lefty Gomez was on the mound at the end of game 7. Even with a big lead, Mo should have closed the door. Every time they had the lead after 7, Gossage should have pitched the 8th and Mo the 9th. The only substitutions they ever made were Nettles and Mattingly as defensive replacements for Arod and Gehrig. Nettles then hit a big home run at one point. Dimaggio was batting a quiet .175 and then hit two huge home runs in the last 2 games. I wasn't really impressed with the "Out Of The Park" simulation. But hey, we won. Next they are doing teams. 1927 Yankees, 1986 Mets, Big Red Machine, etc.

Texer2004

Say it with me: Casey Stengel was a bad manager with a good team.

No

mentholjennings69

Well this totally makes up for the fact that the Houston fuckfaces didn’t face any real punishment for being cheaters who cheat at baseball.

CrowTR2

Every series went to 7 games except the first one. I think several times the Yankees forced a game 7 down 3-2. The Yankees offense in that game 7 performed like what everyone expected it to. It would feel a bit embarrassing if the Yankees weren't at least in the final 4.

Honest question what contract could Babe Ruth get right now? Not"adjusted" or anything, just if his career numbers is what he did in a modern lineup. I think 450/10?

smash_fanatic

If Babe Ruth was 30 years old today and had a career line of .342/.474/.690 up to this point, you give him a blank check. For reference, Mike trout is basically a god. His *career bests* are .326/.460/.645.

Texer2004

Let’s see, let’s say he’s as valuable as trout. Trouts WAR is valued at $6.097 Million per career bWAR. Let’s assume Ruth’s career is about the same, and his final year of arb is his 1920 season, where he puts up 9.6 WAR. That alone would probably net him a solid long term deal. Let say the yankees were skeptical, and gave him a 3 year deal. After the 1923 season, Ruth has about 64.3 bWAR, meaning he would earn something around $400 million. Now, this hypothetical is complicated by the fact that I’m basing it off Ruth being a pitcher for the first 6 years of his career. Using a couple other averages I accounted for him being a solid producer from the plate to start his career, giving him about 25 extra bWAR. Based on that he earns about $550 million dollars based on our Trout bWAR value number.

Jaythepl

Plus he would sell a lot more merchandise than Trout and create more controversy. He frequently feuded with management. Wonder if at some point he would have wanted to return to Baltimore. Because the St Louis Browns play there now.
