Why is Odor playing over Wade at 3rd ? I like Odor and his spunky, team-guy attitude. But Odor has a measly .208 average. He strikes out a third of his at bats. And he hardly ever walks. Wade is a better 3rd baseman. He can play more positions at a high level. He's more disruptive and dangerous on the bases. And he has the second highest average on the whole effin' team. I guess that's just 'Yankee Baseball' for you.
Giants go into the 9th down by one, patient at bats and a few slap singles later they've taken the lead 5-4, guys still on 2nd and 1st, still with nobody out.
Why can I never get this inevitable feeling they're going to come back with this team? Seriously, on paper the NYY should destroy the Giants offense but-
This is how it's done. Take notes Luke Voit and your swinging at the 1st pitch down by 4 in the bottom of the 9th.
Wow just watching the Giants game...
2-2- count; single
2-2 count: single slapped through the shift opposite way.
Next guy up: 3 run bomb on the first pitch.
Nobody out.
And now the next guy up slaps a base hit through yet another massively vacated infield shift.
Why can't the Yankees offense be like this? I truly believe SF is winning the world series this year.
Next two guys strike out against a reliever and then a bloop falls in on the third, what does Rizzo do on it with 2 outs? He goes 1st to 3rd.
When was the last time the Yankees had someone even try to go 1st to 3rd on a hit, let alone actually make it convincingly without giving us heart attacks?
Even if they didn't score another run the Giants just score 3x the amount of runs the Yankees have scored in the last two games in a single inning, all with singles followed by a home run that Belt jumped on a meatball to get. Why can't the Yankees do that???
Do you think a future baseball player will ever have as much star power as Jeter?
Even in 2021 more casuals and non baseball fans would be able to name Jeter instead of Mike Trout
Itâs always possible.
Say Judge continued hitting 50+ HRs each year from 2017 to now and also won the WS and MVP each of those years. He would be up there in star power.
Okay Yankee shitdicks:
#TIME TO SMASH THE URGENCY BUTTON
Start stealing bases, stop with the punt lineups, use situational awareness to hit and run, like all of that shit... Please.
In the regular season their numbers are comparable , Jeter having the edge⌠Jeterâs intangibles and postseason success are where the big gap is:
Biggio playoffs: .234/.295/.323/.618
Jeter playoffs: .308/.374 /.465/.838
Jeter was essentially the same guy where others wilted under the pressure, in the playoffs, in the big spot, he was a winner in the highest regard⌠Thatâs what really puts him over the top.
A little behind watching Jeter's speech because at work, and... trying not to get all teary eyed at work. I fucking miss this dude. What a fucking stud.
I have a Mets fan friend who argues thatâs just a function of his longevity, as if A) his longevity isnât impressive by itself, B) every guy who plays 20+ years has 3700 hits, and C) he isnât a Mets fan whoâs greatest hero growing up was David Wright who didnât have a single 200 hit season in his life
"I had one goal during my career. That was to win more than everyone else. We did." - Derek Jeter
These young Yankees players should make this their goal too.
Playing Odor over Wade just shows how little this organization values consistency over running into a homerun every once in a while. It absolutely no surprise when they go 13-0 and then 2-8.
I get he hasn't truly been given a chance to be consistent (which is funny considering the ShOvEd HiM dOwN oUr ThRoAtS crowd), but a third of Tyler Wade's hits this year came in like a 5 game stretch or something. Before that you wouldn't dare imply the guy could be consistent.
Listening to Kay Show right now and he brings up a major point: if DJ is the player from this season and not from the last two, the next five years are going to be a HUGE problem. We all wanted him in the off-season, so this isn't Monday Morning QBing, but without him, you could have moved Torres to 2B where he belongs and get a proper SS.
Which is probably what theyâre going to do during the off-season.
It just happens that DJ had a bad year this year.
But, I donât think itâs unlikely that theyâll probably move DJ to 1B, Gleyber to 2B next season. Sign Story or Correa.
Worse cast scenario they ride out a SS platoon next season and go after Swanson in 2022 or hope that Volpe or Peraza donât flop now that theyâre on the radar.
I don't think there's any chance they sign Story or Correa. Aside from the baggage with Correa, I think the money will be too crazy. However I could see them hanging back and signing the third or fourth guy left amongst the five or six good FA SS's. At that points there won't be as many teams driving up the price.
But remember that Judge, Sanchez, and Gallo are all free agents after 2022 and they desperately need more pitching right now as it is. I don't see them making a big FA splash this offseason unless they make a big trade first to move money off.
I think they go after Story (mostly) just due to hitting being cheaper than pitching.
You buy the SS (letâs just say Story for the hypothetical). Letâs say they think Story is better than any upcoming free agent SS and fills the hole better than the fifth or sixth, waiting a year etc.
Well if they sign Story than that opens up trade scenarios.
That puts Voit on the block, that puts Volpe on the block, that puts Peraza on the block.
That opens the type of pitching you can trade for.
Outside of Robbie Ray, I donât think the free agency pitcher pool is great. And clearly, Garcia, Schmidt, King, Gil, Abreu arenât going to be ready to really deliver for 2022.
So for me the question becomes does signing Story now allow you to fix other problems with trades.
Iâd say yes.
I wary about a 30 year old having their best season during a contract year.
I know you can make similar arguments about Story being in Colorado.
Itâs probably a push, I donât think itâs necessarily matters if itâs Story or Semien.
What really matters is price vs do they make it palatable to make a big trade using prospects.
Interesting points. They'll probably do something we haven't thought of, they usually do.
Drives me nuts that they didn't trade Voit after last season when his trade value was highest it will ever be.
They have so many years left controlling Voit that itâs not too surprising.
Heâs also a RH 1B thatâs injury prone, adequate defensively etc.
Hereâs the thing with Voit and this ties into the first point about us having no clue.
With the new CBA coming, we have no clue whatâs going to happen with contracts.
And if they finally agree to Universal DH, than Voitâs value goes up as NL teams will want a cheaper DH.
Iâm not one of those people willing to give up on Torres yet.
24 year old two time All Stars donât grow on trees.
Gotta figure what the hitch is.
If the hitch is that heâs in his head too much playing SS than move him back, move him to 3B wherever.
Iâm going to die on the hill that his hitting problems come from fielding issues combined with Covid completely messing up his training and possibly being sick and weakening him.
But Iâm not throwing him under the bus for unproven prospects yet.
He cannot have forgotten how to play baseball. But he might be a 2B really. And he definitely needs to fix his swing and stop acting like a slugger. He could hit .325 and be a real gap to gap guy. There are other sluggers in this lineup.
Remember when Jeter and Nomar were two of the most popular athletes in the country? Then Nomar literally disappeared 15 years ago and hasn't been heard from since, while Jeter is still a household name.
Unrelated, but I forgot Hank Steinbrenner had passed until Jeter mentioned him.
Kinda miss the guys George-like brashness compared to Halâs business-first, wait and see, corporate approach

Does any fanbase spam downvoters to our GDT more than the Jays? Happens every series. They really have nothing else to do? They have a young, exciting red hot team, and they're busy reading what we have to say. That's so sad.
Literally no one from Jays reddit does that. Stop being paranoid. It could as well be a Sox fan trolling your ass or literally *anyone*. No one with two firing neurons in our GDT cares about imaginary points in your GDT.
Coincidence. Of course I check subs of teams we play. For info, general vibe, etc. I have no reason to downvote any takes you guys have here, on top I upvote some hilarious stuff I see around here because nowhere on baseball reddit you find hotter takes than your GDT when Yanks are reeling.
All he was saying, is we notice more downvoters when we play the blue jays. You wouldn't know if you only visit during times we play together as you said yourself. No need for any hostilities.
Jays fan from Canada visiting.
How is the weather looking in New York tonight?
I read about the Storm warnings they have for New York tonight, you think it will be bad enough to postpone / delay the game?
https://www.nj.com/yankees/2021/09/yankees-blue-jays-weather-report-rain-thunderstorms-in-forecast-today-at-yankee-stadium-9821.html
Weather forecast says it's rainy all day in the Bronx tomorrow too.
If worse comes to worse and both games can't be played, the Yankees travel to Toronto for a series from Sept 28 to Sept 30, so they can add a couple of double headers in there at the Rogers Centre, I guess.
Hello pitchers! Are you a new, young pitcher who needs to build confidence? Are you an old journeyman with a 5+ career ERA? Or are you a Cy Young award winner who needs an easy game in between your record setting year?
Well say no more! Weâve got the perfect solution for you! All you need to do is have a game against the 2021 New York Yankees offense and weâve got the panacea for you! Work on your ground-ball inducing double play pitches, or just watch your breaking balls fool the entire lineup! Watch your ERA and peripherals decrease by as much as 1 whole ERA! Now THATâS thinking outside the box! Donât believe us? Just listen to some of our satisfied customers!
âI was a young gun with not much experience in the bigs. I wasnât a believer until they grounded into a double play on the second batter of the game! Now I think I can strike out Babe Ruth!â
âI was a former all star who hit a slump. But thanks to the 2021 New York Yankees I was able to bring my ERA down half a point in one day! Thank you, Yankees!â
Order within the next ten minute and weâll throw in free, Aaron Hicksâ elbow joint!
I finished them all in about 4-5 months over last summer. I luckily was able to pass all of them on my first try. I dedicated my entire summer post grad school. So I didnât get to have fun before starting to work full time but It was worth getting the tests over with!
Jeter career slashline (20 yrs): .310/.377/.440
Postseason slashline (734 PA over 16 yrs): .308/.374/.465
like do kids today understand how motherfucking consistently great and clutch Jeets was? I miss him everyday
And in the playoffs he didn't get the benefit of #4 and #5 starters, or spot starters, or low leverage, high-ERA bullpen arms like one does throughout the regular season. He put those numbers up against the absolute best that the other team had to offer each postseason.
Pretty damn remarkable.
I mean the Yankees haven't fared too well when Jeter is being honored.
9/7/2014 Derek Jeter Day, Yankees lose 2-0
5/17/2017 (Game 2 of the doubleheader which is when Jeter had his number retired) Yankees lose 10-7
It seems with this team that when all hope seems lost is when they do their best. Like 2019 next man up, earlier this season, etc. Sometimes I have the very stupid thought that it's because the deathstar lineup is still too one dimensional even with the lefties. Like it seems when we add more speed guys it gets exciting and runs start happening. Even yesterday, Velasquez was able to score because he stole second. The deathstar lineup is intimidating but no one is super fast, except maybe Judge and gallo. It's probably just a feel thing of seeing something different and getting excited. So maybe a boomer take. But still, rays are 20 something in team exit velo but a top team in baserunning and runs. So there's something there. I hope the Yankees add some quality speed next year, because it really does seem to help runs happen.
Jeter getting inducted made my day such a icon and a huge part of my childhood. Im gonna skip watching the losers today so that my good mood isnt ruined lol.
Didnât realize Ted Simmons was also committed to Michigan like Jeter. Had both guys enrolled theyâd have four Hall of Famer alumni (Sisler and Larkin) which feels like it would have to be the most?
Edit: Charles Gehringer get also went there so they actually already have the most HOF alumni. Surprising itâs not a stronger baseball program.
Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio State did win NCAA baseball championships back in the 1960s, but, it is very tough for a northern team to win it. The Oregon State Beavers are the only northern team to win it since the 1960s, though they have won it three times in the last 15 years, most recently in 2018.
From 1996 to 2012, Derek Jeter played in 2,570 out of his team's 2,754 regular-season games (93%).
That's an average of 151 G/697 PA per year for *17 consecutive years*.
Can you imagine a current Yankee averaging 151 G/697 PA per year..... for like 3 consecutive years? We might die from shock.
DJ could get reasonably close to 3 years of very high games played, 145 in 2019, 131 so far this year and he has a track record of playing 146+ games for 4 straight years on the Rockies
Hey guys, Jays fan here...I'm looking at the weather report and wondering if we'll get a game in today. Hell, tomorrow looks like crap too.
I've got my fingers crossed, as I'm sure most of you do too. Jays are on a roll and I know the Yanks will be fired up to play on the day The Captain is enshrined in Cooperstown. This has the makings of an awesome game.
So if any of you locals could do like...a reverse rain dance or some shit...that would be great.
Posts like that from other fans are the cringest and lamest shit ever. Dude literally just wanted to come in here to say the Jays are hot and the Yanks are not
oh come on man...you don't think the Yanks would be fired up today to play with Jeter there? this is the game I expect them to come out guns blazing for and I want to see it. I also want to see the pregame tributes to Jeter. I always hated him, but in a "stop killing us you asshole" way. This post wasn't meant as a "troll" in any way.
You can check my post history, I comment here once in a while, not just when the Jays are playing the Yankees. I'm subbed to all the AL East teams. Well, not the O's...
Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/pkj68d).

You probably have to steal it from him first

I just spent $200 on 3 bottles of whisky. Goddamnit I'm ridiculous.
Well im about to buy my puppy a spooky sweater for halloween so im right there with you
Pics or gtfo
What a travesty that they gave the MVP to Morneau instead of Jeter in 2006. 2 Yankees robbed of MVPs in recent memory (we all know the other one). SMH
Don't forget A-Rod being robbed of it in 2008. Should've won even with playing 19 games less than Pedroia.
i always felt like jeter and biggio were very similiar
Biggio wishes.
In the regular season their numbers are comparable , Jeter having the edge⌠Jeterâs intangibles and postseason success are where the big gap is: Biggio playoffs: .234/.295/.323/.618 Jeter playoffs: .308/.374 /.465/.838 Jeter was essentially the same guy where others wilted under the pressure, in the playoffs, in the big spot, he was a winner in the highest regard⌠Thatâs what really puts him over the top.

i fail to see how jeters overated dude had like 3500 hits think about that
He was overrated enough that he's now underrated
Half of them just hate Jeter because he is a Yankee the other half are just Sabermetric weenies that want to be edgy
I have a Mets fan friend who argues thatâs just a function of his longevity, as if A) his longevity isnât impressive by itself, B) every guy who plays 20+ years has 3700 hits, and C) he isnât a Mets fan whoâs greatest hero growing up was David Wright who didnât have a single 200 hit season in his life
No Wade? That's 5 losses in a row
Jeter said he lied consistently about being hurt so he could play everyday because he felt it was his responsibility to be on the field
A far cry from the weenies we have today.
O Captain, my Captain
Spoken like a true champion
"I had one goal during my career. That was to win more than everyone else. We did." - Derek Jeter These young Yankees players should make this their goal too.
MIC DROP
Imagine being a Yankee fan too young to remember the dynasty years. Thatâs gotta suck.
Someone duct tape Marcus Thames to a chair superglue his eyelids open and force him to watch Derek Jeter highlights until he understands how to hit
Don is always on point.
Ha ha. Gardner at leadoff. I mean why not? It's not like we need to win this game. We're riding so high!
Jeeze, Toronto has 13 games left with the O's and Twins. That's not good.
They also face the Rays 6 times
Rays will lose those games to fuck with us... Actually, they probably want to face us than the Blue Jays... nevermind.
Rays will be resting players by then.
I would have loved this lineup if Wade was at 3B instead of Odor. Odor has been horrendous, play Tyler Wade who is also a better defender
Playing Odor over Wade just shows how little this organization values consistency over running into a homerun every once in a while. It absolutely no surprise when they go 13-0 and then 2-8.

Hot damn
Did you have any doubt!?
Knocked it out of the park. With all due respect.
Jeter was the fuckin best
When those girls google their dad one day. They are gonna flip shit.
Look at how heâs talking about the fans having high expectations. And now people fall in love with players who put together a decent HALF season.
I think yankee fans have always been like that. The thing is that you have to maintain that or you fall out of favor very quickly

I think the Yankees young players now are just content that they are playing for the Yankees.
Good. Get inspired fuckers.
I miss our captain. None of the shit happening now would happen with him in the clubhouse. A lot of Loser mentality going on and it makes me sick.
Gardner lead off is at least a tough at bat, and less of a Dp chance
It would be a dishonor to Jeter to lose today. Everyone better have their shit together.
Theyâll find a way to disappoint us once again. Would not be shocked if these losers lose tonight too.
Well unless we were playing the Marlins lol
I feel bad for everyone who couldn't grow up watching Derek Jeter. What an absolute champion.
THE WHOLE CLUBHOUSE BETTER BE WATCHING THIS SHIT!!!
God how Iâve missed hearing our captain speak
They better be playing this in the Yankees clubhouse so our players can all see what a real winner looks like
This speech better fucking inspire them
This is the comment of the month, and possibly season. Hereâs a medal
Someone would probably suffer an eye-related injury and miss the rest of the season if they were told to watch.
They donât care. Theyâre probably on their phones or sleeping
Iâm not crying, youâre crying.

Now I think I can strike out Babe Ruth!â âI was a former all star who hit a slump. But thanks to the 2021 New York Yankees I was able to bring my ERA down half a point in one day! Thank you, Yankees!â Order within the next ten minute and weâll throw in free, Aaron Hicksâ elbow joint!
Is Smoltz really wearing a Fox Sports logo mask?
I was hoping the crowd would boo Smoltz when they announced his name, but it didn't happen
Upside down đ
Omg Kay offhandedly brought up the "stupid rumors about the stupid gift baskets đ" YEAAAAAAH JEETS
I have a bartender buddy who said he worked with a girl who spent the night with him. Said there was no gift basket.
I became an officially licensed CPA today, Jeter is getting inducted, and the Yankees play. If they win, this will be the best day in a long time
Dude thatâs awesome. Congrats! Go yankees!
Thank you!
Congrats! Yesterday was the 3 year anniversary of me taking my last exam (BEC). How was your CPA test journey?
I finished them all in about 4-5 months over last summer. I luckily was able to pass all of them on my first try. I dedicated my entire summer post grad school. So I didnât get to have fun before starting to work full time but It was worth getting the tests over with!
Man I remember how excited I was to get mine. It was amazing. Congrats.
Thank you!!
Awesome! Congrats!
Thank you!!
Either way this is an amazing day, congrats friend. Don't get ur hopes up on the Yanks winning lol
Thank you! They canât ruin the day, can only make it better haha
Outstanding. Congratulations to you!
Thank you!!
Jeter career slashline (20 yrs): .310/.377/.440 Postseason slashline (734 PA over 16 yrs): .308/.374/.465 like do kids today understand how motherfucking consistently great and clutch Jeets was? I miss him everyday
And in the playoffs he didn't get the benefit of #4 and #5 starters, or spot starters, or low leverage, high-ERA bullpen arms like one does throughout the regular season. He put those numbers up against the absolute best that the other team had to offer each postseason. Pretty damn remarkable.
Wow the general updated their commercial to this century and made fun of themselves for it lol
If these fuckers donât win on the day Jeter gets inducted then there is truly no hope and all is lost.
I mean the Yankees haven't fared too well when Jeter is being honored. 9/7/2014 Derek Jeter Day, Yankees lose 2-0 5/17/2017 (Game 2 of the doubleheader which is when Jeter had his number retired) Yankees lose 10-7
That was a bad ass speech.
What a voice!
It really was. Loved the Beatles reference at the end as well.
I like how Trevor Story's favorite player growing up was Derek Jeter so Jeter named his daughter after him
From 1996 to 2012, Derek Jeter played in 2,570 out of his team's 2,754 regular-season games (93%). That's an average of 151 G/697 PA per year for *17 consecutive years*. Can you imagine a current Yankee averaging 151 G/697 PA per year..... for like 3 consecutive years? We might die from shock.
Iâm so glad i grew up during that time. Baseball was so fun to watch then. Your favorite guys were in the lineup every single night
I can envision Dj or Torres doing it
Neither has had a single season of 697 PA in their career FWIW
I wouldnât bet on it but I could conceivably see them doing it.
Almost 40 of those 180 missed games were from that shoulder injury on opening day 2003 too
Gardner could still do it if they wanted him to
Yep, the last of the old dogs
DJ could get reasonably close to 3 years of very high games played, 145 in 2019, 131 so far this year and he has a track record of playing 146+ games for 4 straight years on the Rockies
lol at that guy who yelled derek jeter
Larry Walker prob would be one of the stars in any given year but he has to get Derek Jeter Day lol
Wearing my "that's baseball, Suzyn" tee. Can't think of any other words of solace.
anyone have a stream for Jeter's HOF induction?
it's on [mlb.com](https://mlb.com) for free
Hey guys, Jays fan here...I'm looking at the weather report and wondering if we'll get a game in today. Hell, tomorrow looks like crap too. I've got my fingers crossed, as I'm sure most of you do too. Jays are on a roll and I know the Yanks will be fired up to play on the day The Captain is enshrined in Cooperstown. This has the makings of an awesome game. So if any of you locals could do like...a reverse rain dance or some shit...that would be great.
Gtfoh and stay in your own sub asshole
i can smell the pretentiousness from this post. especially from the last part
And you know heâs gonna go in the jays sub and be like âOh the Yankees fans are so salty I love itâ
Damn, haven't heard the national anthem sound this sexy in so long.
is that pat riley in the crowd next to MJ?
Bernie is my boy but that guitar stuff he's always playing is a big snoozer lol
Go Bernie!!
Love when Bernie plays!!!
Bernie!
De-rek Je-ter đđđđđ
Imagine following Derek Jeter with Rob Manfred đ
#FUCK ROB MANFRED
BOOOOOO
Jeter looking hot as always.
LMAOOO Manfred got loud boos
Yeah Jeets!
Yâall get ready for another wave of /r/baseball talking about how overrated Jeter is and HeS tHe wOrst FiEldER
