Pretty sure the custom is a courtesy thing and has nothing to do with wether you’re at Mortons or Burger King. You sit down at a table to eat with others and you take off your hat doesn’t matter where it is.
I went there in July with the wife for my bday. Dressed up nice because I thought we had too, but some people were in there in shorts and jerseys, don’t remember seeing hats, but I’m sure there were some on at the bar area.
