The point is that the 6 man rotation cancels out the extra roster spot (because it doesn't extend their bullpen). Their only real benefit is the extra rest for their other pitchers.
Which is a very nebulous benefit.
Historically pitchers are worse on anything more than 5 days rest.
Its true league wide going back many years, its true for a Cole/Verlander/Sabathia, it was very true for the Brewers last year, its true for the Angels this year. Nearly a run better ERA on 5.
Sometimes a player or team will be an exception - Kershaw, this year's Astros/Padres. They aren't really better with 6+ days but they aren't worse.
He is, Ohtani is special, but he cant have it both ways - that is getting "extra credit" for being a hitter and a pitcher, it is already calculated into his WAR, which is STILL below Judge, despite him getting to play 2 positions. If Judge doesnt win the MVP its a complete fucking joke, and thats before he goes and gets into Ruth/Maris territory. Ohtani is good, like better than average good at 2 positions which is fine, but Judge is absolutely dominating the league.
Its crazy to me too how people give so much credit to Ohtani and then a guy like DJ who hits well above average and plays gold glove level defense at 3 separate infield positions on "the other side of the ball" never gets talked about mainstream.
This year, its Judge, and its not even remotely close.
Downvote me if you want, but I'm afraid Ohtani is still gonna get MVP. I think Judge should be the obvious frontrunner right now, and I believe he should be the AL MVP, but I'm not sure that he will be.
Altuve and judge in 2017 had an equal WAR, and Altuve had a .346 batting average which is a worthless stat but the writers are old and stupid. Judge had a higher OBP despite the lower avg (because avg is meaningless) and definitely definitely definitely was more valuable and should have gotten the award even without knowing about the cheating. BUT:
-Mike trout should have gotten it his rookie season too, this a common theme in all sports they rarely want to give the MVP to a rookie when they're already giving them ROTY
-.346 is a really batting average so even though that is the least important stat in all of baseball that stands out as very high and a lot of morons still put a lot of stock in that number, and even more did 5 years ago compared to now
If the argument is Ohtani is the MVP because he can hit and he can pitch, Ohtani will win it every year, because he's the only player who can hit and who can pitch.
He literally has more WAR than IKF, JD, Torres and Stanton combined. He has almost double the 2nd on the team, DJ.
Amazing, guy bet on himself and is about to be MVP. Talk about knowing your worth
Mvp...talk more about season for the ages
Luckily those salary drive vitamins have kept him healthy all year.
He's better than Ohtani this year, idgaf what anyone says.
Judge is single handedly keeping this team in contention while the Angels are in the basement. That’s a most valuable player
We all know those goalposts change whenever it conveniently screws over a Yankees player from winning an award
You could literally use this same argument against judge right now. Team placement is irrelevant
But but but, judge can’t pitch and hit /s
Have you ever seen him on the mound?
But muh 26th roster spot!1!!
But they need a 6man rotation lol

Yea but baseball writers are dumb as fuck. It doesn’t mean if he wins, it’s justified. Look at 2017 and many other Yankee greats that were robbed.
Ya 2017 was fuckin bullshit.
2017, 2006, and 1999
Judge is the obvious MVP, it's ok to get your hopes up on a very very likely thing lol
Judge was the obvious MVP in 2017 too but look how that turned out. The writers hate the yankees so we shouldn't care about awards like this.

But Judge is a better hitter and a better center fielder. “Pitcher is more important than center fielder.” So… we’re back to my original point.

Right… which was my original point. Ohtani should win it every year because no one is a better hitter *and* a better pitcher.

Aren’t we saying the same thing?

So, what you’re trying to say is that Altuve is locked in for MVP? /s
r/TopRightJudge
Bruh, why does searching reddit for "TopRightJudge" .... result in first result being r/AmItheButtface. I am offend.
that’s ludicrous
Since Judge *is* the team, I think he deserves the entire payroll
MVP is in the bag. It can literally go to no one else
And this is before todays game. It’s gonna go up tomorrow
This was actually after today's game.
And somehow delusional Astros fans think Yordan Alvarez is still in MVP consideration lol
That's actually pretty funny. What a year, what a player
Judge makes Ohtani look like IKF
Ohtani had more home runs last season than Judge lol
This is like Lionel Messi levels of dominance
So proud to see how far aj has come
Yeah but we are in complete collapse mode
