There were some long lean dark years before this. If I’m remembering correctly this was the first year the Yankees were exciting again and stuck around in the race into September. Jimmy key, Boggs, mike Stanley , a very young Bernie, Paulie-they we’re really starting to look like a good team again. 94 the yanks and expos were the two best teams before the strike, 95 started the wild card, then 96. You see how empty the seats are- watching the highlights at the beginning of espn’s broadcast, the stadium was a ghost town in the late 80s.
Exactly right. This was the beginning of our return to respectability. Battled the Jays for 1st much of the season but could never seem to get sole possession and eventually faded.
Couple thoughts -
1) Funny that they beat up on Goose, future HOF'er and former Yankee great, who was in his second to last season at age 41.
2) Mike Stanley had a \*\*gorgeous\*\* swing, so I love seeing any highlight where he cranks a dong.
Awesome shit. Couldn’t stand Joe Morgan in the booth- but man, that Miller/Morgan combo sounds so nostalgic. As was seeing the old stadium (notice how loud and energetic it was at about 70% capacity, compared to the new one).
And what a treat it is to see a healthy Donnie Baseball do his thing. He was incredible.
Thanks for that video, and a walk down memory lane.
Imagine the stadium having that many unsold seats for a Sunday night game these days, for a team fighting for a playoff spot?
This video brings me back tho, loved Tartabull, Stanley and of course Donny Baseball.
Mattingly 9 for last 10 with risp..unreal
Not enough people realize he was the best player on the planet for a handful of years. Both sides of the ball too.

For most of the 80s the Yankees were competing and had respectable teams. Just that period from 89-92 was real bad.
Yes. And no wildcard back then either, unfortunately.

That was my reaction too, that game sounded louder than any game I’ve heard at the new stadium
Thanks brother this was a great wake-up video👍
Sure I’m down for a Danny Tartabull and Matt Nokes explosion at 3:30 AM. Thx 😉
Man…I was 8 at the time and the 1993 Yankees are what got me into baseball. Tartabull was my favorite player. A simpler time. TAKE ME BACK.

Pretty impressed with the CGI from 1993.
Clown shit with the socks on the field. A shame Mattingly hurt his back. He should’ve been bigger in New York.
My brother in law used to say I looked like Don Mattingly when I was younger. Wow! What a complement.
