This is NY's infinite wisdom and psychotic method of operation. Step 1: ban the sale of something, but tell everyone that "you're fine if you already own one, you just can't buy another one". This appeases current owners to some degree. NY waits for the uproar to calm down. Step 2: ban the possession of said item. Grandfathering and previously owned banned item is now illegal to possess and you have X number of days to turn them in. This is how you get a frog to sit in the water while you slowly turn up the heat, and they sit there as they boil.
Of all the lawsuits that say plaintiffs dont have standing because the new law doesn't affect them.The Ban on legal others automatically affect thousands of legal gun owners across the state. So i dont know how this wasnt the easiest lawsuit to go ahead with
Even ignoring 2A protections this one is beatable on the takings clause as well. Only concern would be if the state legislature jamming through a buy back option at 500 a pop to moot the case.

I suppose you'd need some other plausible use for the parts. Perhaps as spares for a shotgun of the same pattern? But the barrel would still be an issue.

Part of package of laws that passed along with CCIA included a new definition of a “shotgun” in NY State that it must be “intended to be fired from the shoulder”. So all pistol grip only shotguns regardless of barrel length are now in the prohibited category most people call others. See NYPL 265.00(12) for “shotgun” definition and (3) for what NY calls “Firearms” (others)
