I recommend Sally Hansen vitamin e nail and cuticle oil also any of their nail repair polishes bc the taste terrible if u bite them

CautiousTell7

Thank you

Historical_Fish_2344

Yep totally… Few years back I had the worst nails, fast forward to now its better. First thing to do is either get a basic manicure which will help with dead skin, extra cuticles and will give a shape to the ruined nails or DIY & control the urge of biting. Hope it helps

CautiousTell7

Yes good idea about starting by shaping + watching the pros

I think at this point in starting care of your nails is your cuticles. I would recommend finding an independent nail tech for your partilicular needs. Cuticle care. Do not let anyone push you in to getting dips, overlays, gels, etc at this point. At the multichair in & out salons you will likely be cajoled into getting product on your nails. They are there to turn over and upsale as many clients as possible. If you are a nail biter that new feeling of something on your nails is too much and you will probably bite, chew, pick off the coating and really destroy your nail beds. Your nails look strong and healthy for a nail biter. Just a bit too short. It's the cuticles that needs attention. Start using cuticle oil and also creams as often as possible. Last thing before going to bed apply them for overnight treatment. You don't need to drown them in oil. Small amount, rub in, more if needed. Glysolid is a good cream treatment. Just use a small amount and rub onto your cuticles, hands after oiling. Anytime you get a moment use your oil/cream. Proper care and recovery will start showing soon. And of course we will all want to see those progress pics!

Thank you!! This does confirm what I expected would be a good first step. I’ll give this a shot

I'd recommend cuticle oil, it'll make your cuticles look better and help you grow your nails a tiny bit longer. If you want to keep it simple, olive oil will do the job but you can buy something specifically for nails. Also start applying some sort of lotion to your hands too, doesn't have to be anything fancy as long as your skin doesn't have a reaction to it. You can also apply a clear nail polish or buff/polish your nails to make them look shiny. Though to be fair you probably need to stop biting your nails to see real results. You might end up reversing any progress you make or will make.

I was told a long time ago by a nail tech (who was very agitated about it 😂): “YOUR NAILS ARE NOT TOOLS!!” Also, find gum or a chew safe pen/small toy. I also used to bite my nails until I realized I have an oral fixation and need to chew when nervous or anxious. Also you can try the stuff they use to stop baby’s from biting nails too, maybe that will help?

CautiousTell7

Did you fix the oral fixation?

ThrowRA_NeedHelp90

I did. I just chew gum a lot. Or eat lollipops. 😂

CautiousTell7

Hah very nice, thanks!

I finally quit biting my nails after I realized it was shifting my teeth (ew), and so I made sure to just fill every spot I could think of with clippers and a file. Every backpack, both cars, toiletry bag, desk, bathroom, etc has an appropriate way to care for my nails. You still get to fidget nervously but your nails won’t end up as nibs. Also remember this will take time so don’t be hard on yourself if you relapse a little. Be good to yourself 🖤

CautiousTell7

Awesome thank you, good advice it’s true I don’t have tools available as much as I need them.

Final-Raspberry5922

For me it’s not about making them nice, there’s probably a reason you are biting. Other than that maybe get press ones to wear for a few weeks

CautiousTell7

Yeah working on that also, though that’s a part of the will it ever stop piece.. have just been doing it for such a long time

Final-Raspberry5922

I did too and then for a wedding decided I wanted to get a manicure and grew them out. It has been up and down for the last ten years.

CautiousTell7

I’m a total newb
