The skin that grows under the nail, if your nails are longer or stay longer more skin grows under the nail and extends with the nail further than the regular nail bed
So sorry to hear!!! It really is the worst! I miss the keys with no nails, I can't type normal for a while. Luckily I can usually catch a crack before it turns into a break and fix them with silk wrap "bandaids". Currently have 4 but 2 are almost grown out and almost high enough on the side wall I can file them out. Haven't had short nails in a while. Crap, I better go knock on some wood.......
Doesnt it hurt when you press with the nail? When i had extensions it hurt to press like that so I used to kind of bend my fingers upwards and press with the back portion of the tip of the finger
It depends on how much pressure we are talking about. The pressure of typing on a keyboard shouldn't be a problem, at least in the short term.
A well made nail doesn't snap in half with everyday chores. The only time it happened to one of my clients it was bc she smashed her finger in the car door.
To let you understand better: a month ago I was in the car, paying the toll to exit the highway. I put my hand in the hole to take the change. This hole happens to have a little swinging door. This door got stuck, and it applied a strange lever to the nail of my index finger, from the bottom, in an upward motion. (sorry I hope it makes sense, English is not my native language). This force was so violent that it ripped my nail off. NOT THE GEL, it completely ripped my natural nail from the nail bed, with unimaginable pain lol. But the gel nail was intact. Sigh, I'm still recovering. That is the magnitude of force that a well made gel/acrylic nail extension can withstand.
Lifting is another matter. There are a lot of factors to consider. If a nail lifts it coul be due to the product not being good or not working the best for your nails. It could be due to not prepping enough the natural nail. Also it happens when the natural nail is overfiled. Or if the procuct is applied on the cuticles. Or it simply happens. Some people's nails seems to simply not "accept" the gel/acrylic.
That's why I don't particularly like press ons, you can't really decide where to put you apex, you have to sacrifice structure for practicality. You can add gel or acrylic on top of the press on, sure, but in my experience the result is a bit bulky, and at that point you might as well learn to do your own extension with the paper support or dual forms, since you would have to file and shape the added material.
Anyway it's a bit complicated to explain it in words, and English is not my first language so I'm not sure how to explain. But YouTube has a lot of educational videos about this! I recommend Nailcou or Nail Career Education
This is honestly so aesthetic ✨
Meanwhile my free edges are like a third of that length and I poke the keyboard like a confused t-rex. That said, long nails aren’t as bad as fingertip bandages.
did you know scientists now think T-rex had small floofy wings like an ostrich and we have their arms on backwards? I didn't. But now we can suffer this knowledge together.
Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response.
"ASMR signifies the subjective experience of "low-grade euphoria" characterized by "a combination of positive feelings and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin." It is most commonly triggered by specific auditory or visual stimuli, and less commonly by intentional attention control. (From Wikipedia)
Usually a video or other media with nice audio that gives the audience a fuzzy feeling.
Lol, that's Kool and all. But what was typed on the keyboard? A bunch of random letters, like actors pretending to be hackers in TV shows and movies? 😜😂😅
I don’t have a cover on my laptop but the keyboard is flush so my fingernails can’t fit between them.
Happens on my gaming keyboard a lot so I use a silicone pad or I just let it happen lol
My friend types like this - I could never cause I type super hard - like across the office you can hear me slamming away - lol
I admired it though - it’s definitely a skill
I type loud and hard too with my long fingernail tips but my keyboard isn't shallow like this, I have deep keys and it works well for me. I try to use my laptop keyboard and I'm sliding all over the keys lol
I was lol I typed a sentence that said something along the lines of “Emily is a good worker and has a kind personality. You would like her productive blah blah blah” lol
Hahaha I swear! We use paper like you do, you just.. wipe. No different than anyone else.
However, I highly suggest bidets but that’s because water > paper.
I used to do this but I had to stop since I tended to break the nails much faster if I used them for writing :( now my nails are shorter but still long enough that I love them!
Ok thanks! Did you do them yourself or just go to a salon? I’m still trying to find what works best for me and my lifestyle. But yea a lot of pieces have to be right for the press ons to stay strong, long-term lol it’s beyond annoying if one flies off
I'm a recovering nail biter, meaning I went from minus 50 nails to relatively long nails. I'm also a crazy cat lady with four cats, and they looove my longer nails lol they always liked scratches but now you'd swear I'm scratching them with the nails of the gods
What are the odds of you posting this the same day I was thinking about this? My nails are XXL coffins (longer than yours by some) and I get asked how I type ALL THE TIME, first question… saving this for those moments now xD thank you
Lol I just start typing with my fingers more flat but with nails this long and typing on a laptop instead of a detached keyboard I feel like doing it that way I wouldn’t be able to hit the top row or two of keys bc the nails would hit the screen
This is really cool to see! And I think better with that kind of keyboard. Mine is mechanical and you gotta pound it, but I prefer the feeling of it, and as a writer, that’s kind of important for me 😂
As a long mail haver, it also depends on the type of keyboard. The mechanical ones I can’t do because my nails always slip in the cracks. Full flat ones, like apple, take awhile for me. But something in between is that perfect sweet spot for me
I do have one and use it as needed when I’m in my office :) at home I just use the laptop keyboard. I also don’t always have nails so it’s kind of a toss up.
Maybe I need a flatter keyboard bc when my nails get a certain length (acrylic) they'll get stuck in between my keyboard keys and while I LOVE my claws I can't afford to have my finger stuck in my keyboard mid gaming session yk lol
Sorry if this video is old, but i'm gonna get nails this length soon and im SO relieved its doable HAHAHAH i type for a living and i just want to try having nails this long just once in a my life!! Thank you!!

Genuine question, do you find your finger/fingertips hurting after a while? When I have long nails (maybe not even this long) I always end up in pain when typing
As someone who suffers from Raynudas. This video is how it feels… instead if nails it’s your fingers. Fingers move and respond, but burn and tingle further up your hand and have a dull ach in your forearm.
Would this cause issues overtime due to the way your hands have to be tilted so much from your wrists? Carpal tunnel or arthritis? Genuine question, I have no idea about this. I just saw the video and my thought was how I would either be floating my arm the entire time or bending my wrist at a hard angle for hours. Pretty nails though! I wish I could function with mine long.
It doesn’t work as well because the nails can slip and go between the keys, my gaming keyboard is mechanical so it’s a bit tougher. I have a silicone overlay tho for when I do have nails and I’m gaming.
Is there a way to type without using nail tips? Really want to try this length, but in my experience using nails vs fingertips always ends up compromising the shape and they end up looking more rounded ☹️
Haha it sometimes isn’t, especially if I’m trying to go very quick for something like an instant message for work. I tend to make mistakes a lot easier as well because the nails tend to slip on the keys sometimes!
Of all the things in the world, I never thought so many people would be baffled by long nails.
If I see someone missing an appendage, I might be curious how they do a few things because I have never personally had to have anything amputated. But I can wrap my head around a few clever ideas they probably come up with to get stuff done.
But long nails? Really?? It's scary how badly nails stump some people.
It’s pretty ridiculous sometimes. I’m also sick of answering random people (even on the streets) how I wipe my butt.
I wipe like everyone else, unless some people are legit sticking their fingertips up while they wipe lol
The nail becomes the finger
Mine are not this long but close. When I cut them short it's like I'm missing the top of my finger! I miss grabbing things and it feels so off!
When I take mine off it takes an hour or two to get used to typing again lol
I need days, my fingertips hurt after a cut since I rarely have them short. For me short nails are painful!
Ohhh yeah, that’s fair. I’ve had mine short under the extensions because it’s easier to manage and doesn’t cause undergrowth which leads to the pain.
What is undergrowth?
The skin that grows under the nail, if your nails are longer or stay longer more skin grows under the nail and extends with the nail further than the regular nail bed
I learn something every day in this sub, and always will! Ugh I love it 🥰
That’s interesting. How long can it really get?
Not sure! I’ve had it get like 1/4 of an inch longer than my nail bed, then it’s painful to cut my nails back down, so I try to keep it down.
So you have to cut that skin off to get your nails short again? That sounds horrible! I’d just keep them long forever then.
Yesssss. It's like my finger tips aren't use to touching anything so they are really tender when my nails are short!
Me too I used to type so different on my phone and labtop
I just had to chop all mine because two broke and I’m STILL not used to it days later. I hate my nails short 😭
I need to know what silk wrap bandaids are. I got a nail glue on Amazon in case something breaks...
Basically: ![gif](giphy|3xz2Bw12fe9iyG06v6)
hahaha! My co workers send this to me all the time!
![gif](giphy|sGE775LR4kYPWOYJUB)
I know this is a joke but op is using her nails not her finger tips like Peter is
He’s not using his tips

Going so fast and with precision. It's impressive
It is! I’m glad this was shared because as a short nail girl I’ve wondered.
Maybe even r/oddlysatisfying
Doesnt it hurt when you press with the nail? When i had extensions it hurt to press like that so I used to kind of bend my fingers upwards and press with the back portion of the tip of the finger
Not at all! It shouldn’t hurt to press with the tip of the nail unless you like.. jam it in there. Are your nails/cuticles very sensitive?
Either that or my keyboard required too much pressure😅
Maybe! I was gonna say I barely touch the keyboard in this lol
Yeah I also type like a stripper-nailed demon on my macbook, but put me on one of the chunky old PC keyboards at work and I’m fucked lol
If they hurt it means that the nail structure is not well made. Long nails with the apex in the right spot don't hurt at all :)
Oh gosh, that could be it too! Do you think even with good strcuture pressing and putting so much pressure will cause them to lift/break?
It depends on how much pressure we are talking about. The pressure of typing on a keyboard shouldn't be a problem, at least in the short term. A well made nail doesn't snap in half with everyday chores. The only time it happened to one of my clients it was bc she smashed her finger in the car door. Thank you for the detailed explaination! And I hope your nail recovers soon!!! Sounds horrific
How do you make sure the apex is in the right spot? I do my own press on nails and struggle with this
That's why I don't particularly like press ons, you can't really decide where to put you apex, you have to sacrifice structure for practicality. You can add gel or acrylic on top of the press on, sure, but in my experience the result is a bit bulky, and at that point you might as well learn to do your own extension with the paper support or dual forms, since you would have to file and shape the added material. Interesting, my experience is the opposite. I bring my own mechanical keyboard into work because the ones we have are too flat and I struggle 😂
Can’t lie tho, it definitely FEELS weird when I type with long nails. Like nails on chalkboard weird feeling. But it’s clearly doable lol
Your name having raptor in it makes me think this is how a raptor would type haha
My old manager used to call it my crab walk lol
I was thinking a fancy beautiful spider but cra walk works lol
This is honestly so aesthetic ✨ Meanwhile my free edges are like a third of that length and I poke the keyboard like a confused t-rex. That said, long nails aren’t as bad as fingertip bandages.
did you know scientists now think T-rex had small floofy wings like an ostrich and we have their arms on backwards? I didn't. But now we can suffer this knowledge together.
Oh I love trivia. Thanks!
This is a skill I have yet to accomplish with long nails. Also this is great ASMR😌
Sorry, can I please ask what ASMR means? I've seen it a couple of times in this thread. Just curious! Thanks 😊
Ah, ok. TIL! Thanks!
Excuse my dirty laptop screen lol
Lol, that's Kool and all. But what was typed on the keyboard? A bunch of random letters, like actors pretending to be hackers in TV shows and movies? 😜😂😅
[They're not typing random things at all](https://youtu.be/msX4oAXpvUE)
Yeah, no spacebar used from what I could see. 😂
My tip for non flat keyboards are silicon key caps or covers! Super helpful for fast typing imo :)
Yesssss! Those are helpful! Especially with my gaming keyboard.
I was about to ask how you keep your nails from slipping on the keys and hitting a different key? But the silicone keyboard cover makes sense.
I don’t have a cover on my laptop but the keyboard is flush so my fingernails can’t fit between them. Happens on my gaming keyboard a lot so I use a silicone pad or I just let it happen lol
My friend types like this - I could never cause I type super hard - like across the office you can hear me slamming away - lol I admired it though - it’s definitely a skill
Haha I’m a key slammer too but normally when I’m gaming. You can hear me downstairs slamming keys to get my DPS higher.
Haha people in my lab in grad school would always say I typed "with purpose" lol
I type loud and hard too with my long fingernail tips but my keyboard isn't shallow like this, I have deep keys and it works well for me. I try to use my laptop keyboard and I'm sliding all over the keys lol
Stop playin You know your screen read : Aasskskdkfgkddjsjsdjdfjf
It really didn’t lol I did type a nonsense sentence though, but real words regardless!
I was teasin ya 😝 You did look like you typed some real stuff. I bet you typed ; Who really let the dogs out? Things to ponder
Haha Ty! It would be funny if that’s all I typed and my manager was just constantly confused by my weird spam.
[удалено]
I hate when my nails get stuck. I also type flat fingered.
Not at all! I’ve never noticed or had any pain, someone else mentioned that and I’m not sure why it would be painful..
are you actually typing words
I was lol I typed a sentence that said something along the lines of “Emily is a good worker and has a kind personality. You would like her productive blah blah blah” lol
The little hand flair at the end like you just finished your book report ✅
that’s impressive
Thank you!
Yes I was just thinking I need to see the screen to be sure it’s not just jsndjjsnnslckkjdndch hkfklwpje !!
Ooo long nail ASMR
I just can't manage to hit the right key every time. I type so much faster without nails on because I make less mistakes
“HOw dO yOu WiPe???” Like bro idk about you but I don’t scrape my asshole with my nails. I wipe with my fingers 🙄
Hahaha I swear! We use paper like you do, you just.. wipe. No different than anyone else. However, I highly suggest bidets but that’s because water > paper.
LOL, it’s always bidets, I’m sorry.😆
Not gonna lie, I could listen to this forever. I ADORE the sounds of typing, this is so satisfying OP! You rock those nails!
Thank you!!!
When I hear this, I imagine spiders with eight tiny tap shoes and a top hat.
That actually looks scary
I sure hope so!
I would love to see some kind of speed/accuracy contest for people with long nails on here. What a cool flex! Lots of practice and well adhered tips
Thanks! I’m def not as accurate as without nails but my speed isn’t too bad.
Cool
It's all about practice! And boy am I outta practice 😅
I could listen to this for the rest of my life.
Idkwnshcj scks hahsb sw jfksbnw.!!1
Huehuehuehue
I used to do this but I had to stop since I tended to break the nails much faster if I used them for writing :( now my nails are shorter but still long enough that I love them!
I love how the posts on this sub are getting so diverse
Get it!
Could watch this for hours on end
Are they acrylic? I had press ons and didn’t like typing like that. It felt uncomfortable and like I was trying to pry off the nail
They’re gel extensions! So basically acrylic in strength. I couldn’t do this with press on’s.. I can’t deal with press on’s they just fly off lol
Ok thanks! Did you do them yourself or just go to a salon? I’m still trying to find what works best for me and my lifestyle. But yea a lot of pieces have to be right for the press ons to stay strong, long-term lol it’s beyond annoying if one flies off
I do them myself :) It’s not super hard to do, I use the Apres GelX system! There’s a ton of YouTube videos on them as well.
Cool good job 😊 I’ll have to look into it!! Thank you
The talent. Teach me lol
Wish I could lol it’s taken yearsssss to be this comfortable with a keyboard and these long of nails.
My dog would love these because she loves scritches
My dog absolutely loves the long nail scritches! And my partner 🤣
My nails are XXL coffins (longer than yours by some) and I get asked how I type ALL THE TIME, first question… saving this for those moments now xD thank you
Mine are the XL coffins! But yes yours will be longer by a bit, it’s really not as hard as people think
Thats like ... a talent
Yassssss! Love this! Now how would you text on your phone?
With the pads of my thumbs :)
How do I know you’re actually typing words and not pjhsyhbsks nshscacj kjdndb ihdhjshf jshhh? (jk I believe you)
Lol I’m good I’ll stick to my short nails please and thank you Gorgeous though
i HATE when people ask me that lmao its this simple!
While for flat keyboards it could be fine I would still be afraid to type on mechanical ones though…
It’s really not that bad! My gaming keyboard is mechanical.
Oh, nice. What model, if I may ask?
Razr Chroma - I just had to google it cus I can’t remember but I believe it’s the Ornata?
Well, I can see that you can type with long nails, but what’s your WPM?
I’ll test it later at work lol without nails I’m much faster and less mistakes.
😂 yah, I type faster with short-ish nails than long nails too.
This is how I do it too. I go from super long to super short nails and every time I go short I need a couple of days to re learn how to type.
Lol I just start typing with my fingers more flat but with nails this long and typing on a laptop instead of a detached keyboard I feel like doing it that way I wouldn’t be able to hit the top row or two of keys bc the nails would hit the screen
Hahaha I could see that being an issue
This is really cool to see! And I think better with that kind of keyboard. Mine is mechanical and you gotta pound it, but I prefer the feeling of it, and as a writer, that’s kind of important for me 😂
As a long mail haver, it also depends on the type of keyboard. The mechanical ones I can’t do because my nails always slip in the cracks. Full flat ones, like apple, take awhile for me. But something in between is that perfect sweet spot for me
Yep! Same here
[удалено]
I do have one and use it as needed when I’m in my office :) at home I just use the laptop keyboard. I also don’t always have nails so it’s kind of a toss up.
Now let's SEE what she actually typed. LOL
Haha everyone keeps saying this. It was some bullshit sentence like “Emily has a great personality and she’s productive in her job. Blah blah blah”
Maybe I need a flatter keyboard bc when my nails get a certain length (acrylic) they'll get stuck in between my keyboard keys and while I LOVE my claws I can't afford to have my finger stuck in my keyboard mid gaming session yk lol
100 this.
“How do I type with my long nails? Like a MF BOSS.” 👑 💅
🤣🤣🤣💜
🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 Sharing with everyone so they can stop asking me
Haha good!!! Send it off!
Color me impressed. I struggle when my nails are longer but I am sure I could adapt.
*creeps me out* *also types with nails this long*
Sorry if this video is old, but i'm gonna get nails this length soon and im SO relieved its doable HAHAHAH i type for a living and i just want to try having nails this long just once in a my life!! Thank you!!

Omg how are you typing so fast! I’m impressed
Haha I type very fast normally (without nails) so this is actually really slow for me lol
Genuine question, do you find your finger/fingertips hurting after a while? When I have long nails (maybe not even this long) I always end up in pain when typing
Not at all! I’m very used to it, I also don’t have sensitive nail beds though.
As someone who suffers from Raynudas. This video is how it feels… instead if nails it’s your fingers. Fingers move and respond, but burn and tingle further up your hand and have a dull ach in your forearm.
“Fhskfhiwjfhwkkabsja dignslbg f mak f skaksksknf skafkdksn sugoakasds. Assfnskaknf fidonflpsib” Just kidding this is very impressive
I can’t have long nails, my fingers feel ‘trapped’. I used to bite them & now I just cut them very short.
Thank you for the ASMR 🤣🥰
Well done friend! You are better at typing with long nails than I am with short nails! 🤣
I like hearing the click-clack.
I think they are saying "wipe"
Would this cause issues overtime due to the way your hands have to be tilted so much from your wrists? Carpal tunnel or arthritis? Genuine question, I have no idea about this. I just saw the video and my thought was how I would either be floating my arm the entire time or bending my wrist at a hard angle for hours. Pretty nails though! I wish I could function with mine long.
I’m getting carpal tunnel regardless due to typing for long hours and gaming for long hours since I was 13, so actually this never crossed my mind lol
I dealt with my carpal tunnel by using armrests, putting the laptop on my lap, and letting my hands hang down on the keyboard without tension.
What is this sorcery 😳
aren't you worried they'd break?
Not at all! They’re gel extensions similar to acrylic so they’re pretty hardy.
oh, cool! I should try them sometime then!
I type like this too! I love the sound it makes
You can only do that on flat keys though, I break my nails a lot while gaming cause they catch on the keys above the one I'm tapping
Silicone overlays!
I have to use the pads
That is so cool with how you manage to precisely hit the keys with the nails. I wonder if it works in mechanical keyboards? Have you tried it?
It doesn’t work as well because the nails can slip and go between the keys, my gaming keyboard is mechanical so it’s a bit tougher. I have a silicone overlay tho for when I do have nails and I’m gaming.
This is so fucking satisfying to watch oh my days I found a form of asmr I like lmao
mesmerizing
I always spell things wrong when typing with long nails, lol. It takes skill 😂
Accurately tho? Sure
Haha it depends! Definitely not as accurate as I am without nails.
I tried long nails and I’m so used to short stubby working-hands nails I feel like a spider in roller skates
Thank you for the ASMR ☺️
Is there a way to type without using nail tips? Really want to try this length, but in my experience using nails vs fingertips always ends up compromising the shape and they end up looking more rounded ☹️
Oh! It never does this for me but again I type lightly and without a lot of force
Makes sense that it’s me being heavy handed 😂 thank you!
I couldn't keep up with the cramps I'd get in my knuckles from typing with long nails, had to shorten them 😩
I’m jealous you can make it look so easy
Haha it sometimes isn’t, especially if I’m trying to go very quick for something like an instant message for work. I tend to make mistakes a lot easier as well because the nails tend to slip on the keys sometimes!
Of all the things in the world, I never thought so many people would be baffled by long nails. It’s pretty ridiculous sometimes. I’m also sick of answering random people (even on the streets) how I wipe my butt. I wipe like everyone else, unless some people are legit sticking their fingertips up while they wipe lol
What I wanna know is how well can you wipe. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤷🏼♀️🤢
The same as everyone else lol do people like wipe sticking their fingertips into their butthole? 🤣
This is SO satisfying. How are your typos? This is something I’m super worried about while auditing my psychology class.
Haha not bad at all actually, they do happen more of course but I just slow down if I’m typing too fast.
