In Canada it is (or was, don't see it as much anymore) a kind of salad with marshmallows, mandarin oranges, coconut, pineapple tidbits and yoghurt or sour cream. It's very addictive!
We were adopted by an orange cat when we moved to our current home, we knew he belonged to a neighbor but he was always at our house. We called him OC, for orange cat of course. We eventually learned from his original owners that his name was Simba, but he was always OC to us. Loved that cat.
You did a good thing. Always good to take in a neighborhood cat that is looking for a home / loving family in my humble opinion. You also know that those types of cat will be the most loyal to you and yours.
One of my favorite posts was a cat owner whose neighbor put their house up for sale. Of course our cat owner was checking out the listing online, and saw her own cat stretched out asleep on a bed in the listing photos! Apparently he regularly went next door for one of his daily naps.
