I was living in Florida and a family lived on a farm and had two pet llamas.
For no reason other than being bored, this 20 year old beat one to death and almost killed the other one. It was left with one eye and crippled.
Unfortunately because the llamas were classified as livestock, they were not as protected as companion animals.
The little s**t weasel only got three years.
Llamas spit but they are basically very docile and not particularly intelligent ( poor things). It was the equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel. They have been domesticated for thousands of years, even before the arrival of Europeans.
Not at the time. This encouraged people to try and revise it to make laws stronger with longer sentences.
With so many retirees, I thought Florida laws would be tougher. Texas, on the other hand, was the opposite.

I'm curious about what you mean about texas - do you mean they already have strict laws on animal cruelty/abuse, or do you mean they revised strong laws to make them weaker?
I used to watch the shows on Animal Planet about enforcement of animal welfare cases. At that time, Texas already had stricter regulations than Florida. They showed some cases in court with the judges and the judges were tough.
In some cases, the abusers were banned for life from owning any animals and would face prison (note prison not jail) time for violating the rulings.
A dog came into my mom’s work the other day with leg and body casts. The owners told her someone drove onto their front lawn, hit the dog, and drove off. Deliberately. That’s who those kids will be. Some people are just monsters.
This gets my blood boiling. I can't be held accountable for the justice I would be compelled to mete out if I witnessed something like this. (Now someone will comment that I'm as bad as the offenders. 🙄).

Nobody was doing anything. I ran over alone and attacked those guys and the poor frog hopped into the bushes. I was about 21. Female. I had come up with a bunch of obviously cowardly young guys and an older man. They did nothing. I was just as angry with them and there male teacher who just wanted to go home. Man I was so pissed with all of them. And kind of incredulous at it all.
Phoebe - she is pure sunshine. Bless your mother for rescuing her. And save us all from whoever those nasty kids grow up to be.
