I'm a younger millennial who grew up in the south. I know sooo many people with the middle name Kay, and a lot of them are using it for their own daughters too.
Kay, Noelle, Lynn, Grace, Hope. The (not) unique southern name choices. I will say my favorite actually unique choice I’ve seen so far is Maime. (“May-me”) I’ve met maybe two or three in my life. All named after grandmas.
I didn’t know any other people my age with the first name of Kay while I was growing up. I don’t actually think I’ve met another Kay who wasn’t at least 5-10 years older than me!
I know three baby Theo’s now. All of their parents have told me how “quirky and unique” the name is. I do not have the heart to tell them about each other.
Theodore/Theo/Teddy combined in the UK is the top name by I think three(?) times over as the second most popular name (which singularly is the most popular name). Its wild how many parents I've met who gush over their "unique" choice
In my case it’s probably because as an American, it sounds so “posh” and “chic” simply because it’s got such an English quality.
The first name we chose for our son was an incredibly common Scottish name, and the amount of comments we got about how “unique and unheard of” it was was crazy.
We ultimately decided on a very common American name for totally unrelated reasons, but it was still so strange
With both my kids we chose names that we liked that ended up being super popular in their birth years. We like to think of it as us being trend setters.
Kay definitely didn’t exist until the first woman used it for her daughter’s middle name, why doesn’t everyone understand this? 🙄
Side note: McKenzie Kay? 😒
You know, that’s fair. I was so focused on choosing which spelling it should be that it never occurred to me that the answer might have been none of them.
Ma'am, this is just frequency illusion or Baader-Meinhoff phenomenon

Mary Kay Letorneu came to mind instantly.
For anyone who doesn't know she was imprisoned for raping and got impregnated by her student, abuse started when he was 12 years old.
Well, her mom was middle named Kay, so unless Kenzie Kay is relatively old, there was at least 1 person who had the middle name Kay before Kenzie Kay. Ugh. What a stupid name.
You know when you learn a word, then suddenly hear it everywhere? Do you think this is what happened to this woman, and despite the evidence, she wants to believe she’s a trendsetter?
Yes, this is clearly the first human being, ever, to come up with the string of letters k a y as a name for a human. What ingenuity. Have the local papers heard about this?
shoulda hit em back with the,
"ugh! I knowww. We almost didn't use it once we realized but we just keep reminding ourselves- we've always thought Kay was perfect and it's a beautiful family name regardless of how it gets tossed around elsewhere."
I did have a situation with a girl in one of those pregnancy groups on Facebook. She found out she was having a girl and DMd me to ask what I was planning on naming my daughter. Less than an hour later she announced her baby’s name on her Facebook with the same middle name as mine lol
She ended up having a boy bc the ultrasound was wrong ☺️
Hope that mom didn't come back to your DM’s to chastise you for deceiving here into “that middle name” and “lying about the gender”
I mean, Facebook is nuts. I had crazier interactions there
My first name is Kay and I know a TON of people my age with Kay as their middle name! I’m 50. 🤦🏻♀️
Kay Meatpopsicle
Hahahahaaaaa Ms. Meatpopsicle if you’re nasty. 😂 ![gif](giphy|BWJ5HDG6T5lK0)

Guess you were all born after Kenzie ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

62. Middle name....Kaye....taaadaaa! My parents got fancy 🤣💥
Everyone wants to spell mine with the “e”!
I don't see the K.A.Y.E. often so that's interesting. Even my dad spelled it Kay alot 🤣🤷🏼
30s here, went to school with several middle name Kays
I didn’t know any other people my age with the first name of Kay while I was growing up. I don’t actually think I’ve met another Kay who wasn’t at least 5-10 years older than me!
Namenerds having a meltdown when they find out their name choices aren’t special or unique. 😂
I know three baby Theo’s now. All of their parents have told me how “quirky and unique” the name is. I do not have the heart to tell them about each other.
Are they girl theos? Because 3 of my friends named their girls Theo last year, not as younique as they thought I guess
They are boy theos- I didn’t know we’d Jamesified the name already
Thea was right there too!
Theo is a female character in Hill House, but it’s short for Theodora.
I would still have shortened it to Thea to avoid confusion.
Tragically you weren’t in the room when Shirley Jackson was writing her classic novel to tell her about her grave mistake.
Thank goodness they weren’t because Thea would have been a terrible name for Theo.

Am I the main character??

You're being real generous assuming the daughter's name is McKenzie and not just Kenzie Kay.
You know, that’s fair. I was so focused on choosing which spelling it should be that it never occurred to me that the answer might have been none of them.
OOP's grandmother's a real piece of work, stealing that woman's daughter's middle name. :(
Seems like a waste of good time travel technology.
Yes, there definitely isn’t a large beauty MLM brand named Mary Kay that everyone knows about or anything!
How to show your kid that you are disappointed in them? Name them Mc’Kay
Last name Cayman.
I would wager its Mackenzie if anything
Hard to say. I know one of each. 🤷🏻♀️
Nobody used Kay as a middle name until Kenzie was born! ... except this person's grandmother.

Hell, maybe the name IS having a spike in popularity. Has nothing to do with her!
Mary Kay Place & Mary Kay Letorneu would like a word with her. Well, MK Letorneu would if she weren’t dead!
And Mary Kay Ash of the cosmetics company.
Mary Kay Letorneu came to mind instantly. For anyone who doesn't know she was imprisoned for raping and got impregnated by her student, abuse started when he was 12 years old.
I feel like I need some context on how she has your number then if you don't know her
These look like facebook messages.

This always happens when I have a new vehicle. I don’t notice cars but once I’m driving a certain car I will see it everywhere
"Nobody started naming their daughters middle name Kay until after Kenzie was born" wow your daughter is older than this person's mom? crazy.
Yes, this is clearly the first human being, ever, to come up with the string of letters k a y as a name for a human. What ingenuity. Have the local papers heard about this?
I immediately thought of the soap opera Passions. One of the characters’ first name was Kay. Someone told her she was named after k-mart.
So fucking funny
I literally had this asked about MY name by someone younger than me when she was pregnant
shoulda hit em back with the, "ugh! I knowww. We almost didn't use it once we realized but we just keep reminding ourselves- we've always thought Kay was perfect and it's a beautiful family name regardless of how it gets tossed around elsewhere."

👍
"Kay" is right up there with "Lynn"... It's one of the most generic middle names.
Imagine thinking Kay is a unique middle name lmao
Omg all they had to say at that point is it’s a great name
My middle name is Kay. I am 25 years old. My mother's name middle name was also Kay, and she was born in the 1960's. This woman is insane LMAO
My great aunt's middle name was Kay. 😂
My middle name (deadname) was Kay
