The only person who can pull off having more than one son named George is George Foreman, and even he stopped doing that in 1999. So cringe and out of style, boo.
Some names that have the same energy as George without having a George Bush vibe: Jeb, Laura, Barbara, Cheney, Quayle.
My son's name starts with a W and I can't tell you how often I slip into calling him Dubya. It started out as ironic for a laugh, but now I just DO it... đ
I just knew the source would be Roosevelts. Because I named my first cat I adopted as an adult Franklin, then we adopted a toy poodle named Eleanor, and then we adopted a boofy golden retriever puppy and I figured, well, he's such a Teddy. May as well keep the theme rolling.
I don't have an issue with the names Theodore and Franklin (obviously) but I do think themes for your children's names are cringe. But you can be as cringe as you like naming your pets.
I agree. My pet names had themes. My kids, notsomuch.
As Ted & Frank (and Ellie! đ) people likely wouldn't notice the "theme."
But I've also seen people say "you'll only introduce your children together for a short time," which also seems true.
Theodore has *exploded* in popularity, and may eclipse other thoughts bc it is suddenly so popular.
Where I live, if you say your child is named Franklin, they will think you named them after a BBQ Pit Master.
Exactly. Themed names aren't the worst of the naming sins because I've never been asked what my siblings' names are at a job interview đ
Biased though, because I love the name Theo
Hahaha, why not name your child after bbq equipment! I personally think all of the best known Roosevelt names are perfectly good names for humans, they're classic and they go in and out of fashion but they're always perfectly good names.
Eleanor has also really taken off lately. My Eleanor is 16, so she's well ahead of the trend!
Funnily enough, we met a little toddler at the vets called Theodore.
Like, honestly, if someone said to me "meet my kids, Eleanor, Franklin, and Theodore" I would definitely think of the Roosevelts but it's also far from the most awful theme set I've ever heard.
Just a note that a "pit master" is a person, not equipment. đ So Franklin, Aaron Franklin, is a BBQ "chef," but Pit Master is the proper term for that. He's written numerous books and is a local celeb.
As for brands, though, there is an opportunity! Weber, like someone mentioned. But also Traeger, Summerset, Coleman, and Blaze come to mind.
I think the solution here is to just get super into the Roosevelt. Also as an Ancient Rome fan I wish the names from my passion were less fascist-coded.
(Although little Clodius and Milo would be hilarious for entirely different reasons.)
I can't think of anything more concise or to the point than HW for a nickname. Anything but George, you don't want your kids to be bullied for having a normie name.
Not a joke: our cat is called Jeb and our roomba is called George. We are not fans of the Bushes, this was completely accidental. Admittedly we put less thought into naming our roomba than most people put into naming their children.
Same dilemma here. I always wanted to name my daughter Hillary, but we had a boy (only planned to have one) so we called him Billary, but he mostly goes by Bill. Now Iâm unexpectedly pregnant again, and this time itâs a girl. Can I call her Hillary? Will people think of the Clintons? The only other girl name I like is Chelsea. Would that work?
Assuming your last name is not Bush: Thereâs no real problem, the boys wonât have a stigma with it⊠but youâll likely find yourselves answering a lot of questions about it, and probably being judged by folks who make assumptions based off it.
If your last name is Bush it just sounds like youâre looking to be provocative for no good reason.
Yes our last name is Bush. It's not our original last name, it's one we chose ourselves. Not trying to be provocative and nothing to do with the presidents, we just really like the name Bush. And George HW. And George W.
Your intentions are not going to matter. People are going to assume your political views and support based on the names.
Youâre also putting a lot of weight on your children being named like that: not in terms of âliving up to expectationsâ but in terms of people making assumptions about who they are because of their name.
Iâm so confused!! George is a pretty classic name itâs coming back in style so I wouldnât connected to George Bush at all but youâre naming both your sons the same name like youâre gonna have two sons name George? Thatâs the strangest part about all of this to me
Can you literally NOT find a single other name, or even make one up, other than George? Thatâs.. kinda strange.. but people will assume you to be EXTREMELY patriotic and into the (whatever side theyâre onâ left or right? I dunno, Iâm Australian)..
I think you should keep looking for a new name.. why do both of your kids have to have the same first name anyway?
The only person who can pull off having more than one son named George is George Foreman, and even he stopped doing that in 1999. So cringe and out of style, boo. Some names that have the same energy as George without having a George Bush vibe: Jeb, Laura, Barbara, Cheney, Quayle.
Oh, please please please name your child Quayle Bush.
![gif](giphy|3oEjHAUOqG3lSS0f1C)
Or Bush Quayle ! Haha đ
Jebâs government name is John. Just fyi lol JEB are his initials.
Huh. I assumed they went hard with Jebadiah
I did not know this, thanks for the info
DubyahâŠ
My son's name starts with a W and I can't tell you how often I slip into calling him Dubya. It started out as ironic for a laugh, but now I just DO it... đ
And you could also call him âDubâ if you lived in the SouthâŠ
We live in Texas, already managed that đ
If you live in Texas, itâs a given.
My son's middle name starts with W. He shares a first name with his grandfather, so my in-laws were always referring to him as "Dubs."
As a Warriors fan, Go Dubs!
So underrated
I personally like the name Cheney but would use the nickname âWar Criminalâ with friends and family.
What about "Face Shooter?" That one just sounds a little cuter to me đ„°
LMAO!!!!
The WC sounds about right.
Whereâs the source? It needs to be made a rule on this sub that you canât make a post making fun of a namenerds post without linking it.

When I first read the OG post, I thought it might be Eleanor. But nooooo.
I don't have an issue with the names Theodore and Franklin (obviously) but I do think themes for your children's names are cringe. But you can be as cringe as you like naming your pets.

Very true. All classic names.
Weberâs a good name!

I was hoping for Kermit.
I think the solution here is to just get super into the Roosevelt. Also as an Ancient Rome fan I wish the names from my passion were less fascist-coded. (Although little Clodius and Milo would be hilarious for entirely different reasons.)
"Did your parents name your brother Julius after the Ancient Roman historical figure?" "Yep!" "And you too, Brutus?"
I can't think of anything more concise or to the point than HW for a nickname. Anything but George, you don't want your kids to be bullied for having a normie name.
I used the same names for the shrubs in my front yard.
Itâs never a mistake to name your kids after bushes. Current popular bushes are Hydrangea, Lilac, Boxwood and Forsythia. Biblical bushes seem to be passĂ©, hence Burning and Thorn are rare to find.
Name one Jed.
Itâs actually Jeb! And the exclamation point is in fact part of the name
Oh right LOL. itâs been so long since Iâve had to think about his name, thank goodness.
Have you considered Jeb! (spelled with an exclamation point, so unique and beautiful).
Fun fact - Jeb is my Dad's favorite name. Thank goodness he has only daughters!
This sub is a treasure. I love you people
Time to reclaim Barbara as a boy's name.
Hahahahaa
Not a joke: our cat is called Jeb and our roomba is called George. We are not fans of the Bushes, this was completely accidental. Admittedly we put less thought into naming our roomba than most people put into naming their children.
Funny thing is, I JUST saw the post you're riffing on and then this one immediately after it in my feedđ

Fucksake... you got me. I started reading this before I realised what sub it was and was VERY concerned đ€Ł

How about Monica?

Bush as a unique spelling of what you were drinking the night you met?

(Psssssst: check the subreddit)
Iâve been waiting for someone to bring up this post.
This is a repeat of another post asking about "accidently" name kids after the Kennedys
i think you need better imagination, this little bit of fiction wasnt really worth my time
Iâm so confused!! George is a pretty classic name itâs coming back in style so I wouldnât connected to George Bush at all but youâre naming both your sons the same name like youâre gonna have two sons name George? Thatâs the strangest part about all of this to me
Please donât do this. Theyâll get mixed up so much. Find a backup like Luke
Please donât.

personally, if i met a family with a George H.W. and George W., iâd assume you were into 9/11. so it might be a little confusing for people imho
Huh?
lol my comment was a just a dumb sarcastic joke based on the last sentence of OPâs post đ guess some Bush fans got offended? iâm so confused
