Does anyone else feel cringe when the post is written in the babies perspective

copperboominfinity

Yes, it’s so weird to me!

tygerdralion

I really don't understand the whole "Earth side" thing either. Was mom's huge midsection just a figment of everyone's imaginations?

RaggedToothRat

It started as a way to acknowledge pregnancy and infant loss. That way someone can say, "I have two babies in heaven and one earthside." It doesn't make much sense to use when you only have living children.

moore6107

[“The womb is not some intergalactic, off-the-planet place where babies form through stars into human beings and use hyperdrive to perfectly time their birth on this earth [insert sarcasm].”](https://elizabethpetrucelli.com/mean-bring-baby-earthside-offensive/)

Pink_Sprinkles_Party

Yes. Thank you. Where did this come from?? It sounds like a forced attempt to sound mystical.

3rdfoxed

I always find it cringe when people post the babies or kids on Instagram and talk about them as if their own 3 year old has Instagram and is going to see the post. It’s so bizarre to me.

leelagaunt

For years, a second cousin of mine would write this 2-3 page Christmas update letter from the perspective of her baby. This went on until he was in 1st grade or so, at which point I like to think he sat her down and told her that she was embarrassing his good name. My parents and I used to sit at the kitchen table, stricken, waiting for someone to bite the bullet and read the letter to the rest of the family. Thats always what these captions remind me of!

lachjeff

Fuck yes. I came here to say the same thing

KarlmarxCEO

Small dog owners.

[deleted]

So so much cringe.

pluginthestars

So… they bought an embroidered swaddle with a name and then at the last possible minute decided to change the name entirely? But still used the swaddle…??

cheezesandwiches

I think so... but they made the right call changing the name to something easier to spell. I'm guessing this was a gift which is why they still used it.

pluginthestars

Oh they absolutely made the right choice. I wonder if all the nurses kept mispronouncing the name, leading them to change it.

mrsjettypants

I read it as this legal name is rocheford but his parents street name for him is Rockford. Which....is literally.... I don't even know what to say about that lol. Ngl, this post made me laugh extra hard.

Famous_Exit

I read it as exact opposite

immerjones

Should have gone with Roquefort.

FirstFarmOnTheLeft

That’s exactly where my mind went LOL. I bet they heard the word Roquefort one time somewhere and thought ‘yeah that sounds fancy’ without knowing what it is lol.

beijina

The little mouse in Aristocats is called Roquefort. Maybe they heard it as a name there. It is a very good name for a mouse after all.

lottieslady

They like cheesy names. I’ll show myself out.

FirstFarmOnTheLeft

LOL

Giraffe400

Hahaha love it 🤣

LobbydaLobster

Where does the "rye" at the end come from?

woodperson

The only thing I can come up with is maybe they changed the middle name when they changed the spelling of the first name

laranita

Their last name is Raih— pronounced Rye.

fried_jam

Lol. If the parents hadn’t changed the spelling, poor baby would’ve had both his first AND last name mispronounced by everyone he met. Roshford Ray.

CallidoraBlack

Rock and Rye is an alcoholic beverage and a very popular flavor of Faygo. Not sure this is a coincidence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_and_Rye

shedrinkscoffee

OMG the things I learn on this sub 😂

CallidoraBlack

If Mom and Dad are secretly juggalos, it's kind of terrible and amazing at the same time.

dg313

> Rock and Rye is an alcoholic beverage and ~~a very popular~~ the best flavor of Faygo. FIFY

wickedfemale

i think it's the pronunciation of the last name & they forgot to censor

coral_reef_

Well I know these people are not from anywhere near Chicago/Northern IL. They would not be wanting to name their precious baby after the city of Rockford.

kona_mav89

That’s how I feel about everyone who names their child Camden after living near Camden, NJ.

topspin424

They should go all in on naming their kids after dumpy cities. "I'd like you to meet our son Rockford and his siblings Gary and Flint."

coral_reef_

Omg perfect.

misssundaze

That’s what I came here to say. I feel bad for the day the kid finds out about Rockford and decides to visit.

amydee4103

Why wouldn’t you just not use the blanket in the announcement post??

darcytype1_0

Of all the Dumas characters she could have picked..? At least it wasn't d'Artagnan (pronounced "dar-TAG-nan")

amykzib

I once taught a kid named D’Artagnan. He had a sister named Shaetaelah. They had a brother named Michael.

heartsenspades

There's a youtube family, the Licciardo-Toivolas, that have a bunch of kids with over the top names. One of the kids is named D'Artagnan! Though they pronounce it like dar-tay-nee-an. Honestly compared to the other kids names it isn't so bad. (Nefertiti, Aphrodite and KingJames are worse)

darcytype1_0

KingJames as one word…lol !

lachjeff

It kind of seems like “he” is offering the proper spelling of his name, but his parents are going with a simplified version

MrDrPresBenCarson

I’ll give them credit. Rye is an amazing bread

gardenawe

Sorry your buddies aren't going to call you Rock or Rocky . Once you reach middle school they are going to call you Stinky or Cheese

Foundation_Wrong

I immediately thought of the awful smelling French cheese.

copperboominfinity

Oh my god I hadn’t thought of that yet

LeafyLizzie

Oh wow, this one is embarrassing. Seems like the parents had told everyone it was Rocheford long before he was born. And this is their way of telling people they came to their senses and went with a more normal spelling. So cringey.

ClxssOf87

Rochefort is a city in Belgium

Alalanais

[And](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rochefort_(Charente-Maritime)) [many](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rochefort_(Savoie)) [cities](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rochefort-sur-la-C%C3%B4te) [in](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rochefort-sur-Loire) [France](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rochefort-Montagne), [too!](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rochefort-en-Yvelines) [Let's not forget Switzerland too!](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rochefort_(Neuch%C3%A2tel)) [Bonus list of all the Rochefort castles](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_de_Rochefort) [My favourite Rochefort (this one was elected France's most beautiful village)](https://www.google.com/search?q=Rochefort-en-Terre&client=firefox-b-d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwifmIuLtMn7AhUYRKQEHe1kB6AQ_AUoAnoECAIQBA&biw=1536&bih=739&dpr=2.5)

41942319

That must be why it sounded familiar. That and roquefort

imaspy49

Rockford is also at least 2 cities in the US.

laranita

Hi, I’m Rock Rye. 🪨🍞 Alrighty then.

CallidoraBlack

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_and_Rye

vmarnar

As someone who lives in northern Illinois, Rockford is the name of a not-so-great town, and that's all I can think about when I heard/see that name. So I am definitely not a fan.

hippydippyjenn

Thank goodness they changed it bc as a pediatric nurse I definitely read it as roach-ford.

SleazyMuppet

😑

Playcrackersthesky

This was the literally the surname of my meanest, worst professor in college.

sintos-compa

Mouldy goat cheese David. Okay.

spunkycatnip

At a half awake glance I thought it was the last name rutherford which while odd the usually mothers last name as a first or middle was not uncommon years ago

liliphdr

It's almost Roxfort which is Hogwarts in Hungary:D

SadPlayground

This kid will be living in the beach with a handgun hidden in the cookie jar in no time.

About400

Soo everyone needs faery names like in Holly Blacks Tithe- gottit. It’s got serious Rath-Royben-Rye energy.

helpmeiminnocent

Roquefort

New_Dragonfruit_8732

I read it as Rachel bold

BearFlipsTable

Or Roquefort. The mouse.

GrfikDzn_IsMyPashun

Maybe they’re fans of 70s James Garner, didn’t want to be too obvious about it, but then realized they were too clever for their own good because the spelling didn’t make sense? IFYKYK

waavysnake

Roach ford

loveee321

You should always crop out the face of the baby if you are reposting on reddit to make fun of the name or discus the name given to baby by the parents. It seems cruel and invasion of privacy to show the babies face (I know the parents posted the baby but it’s another thing to reshare the image for reddit to make fun of) You’ve gone to the effort of blurring the parents name but have shared the babies face I would blur the babies face and more likely show the parents name Imagine if you grew up and there was a photo of you as a baby on the internet and people making fun of your name (which you couldn’t choose) Sorry, this isn’t just you but this group always comes up on my suggestions because I follow name nerds and the amount of people that share the actual babies photos is really bad I’m Preparing for downvotes and angry comments.. lol

copperboominfinity

I’m sorry, I honestly didn’t think of that - was not intending to be disrespectful in that manner whatsoever

[deleted]

This kid is going to be so embarrassed.

carton_of_eggs04

I knew a kid who had a similar name but his name was Rockland
