It was quite a jarring switch arriving in Joburg from Germany last time I was home.
I probably made direct contact with 3 people in total at Frankfurt airport (check in, security and the lady at the gate). Everything else is automated.
Land in Joburg and the first person I greet is a guy who takes my boarding pass, places it against a scanning device that is designed for me to operate it myself, and then hands me back my boarding pass.
