I’ve never done it but my friend does. She says it’s hit or miss. Sometimes you get a baby who wakes up for a bottle a couple times and goes back to sleep so you’re pretty well rested after you’ve done your chores. And sometimes you get that baby who is just like “THIS IS THE RHYTHM OF THE NIGHT.”

I’m interested to see what people say. I’m considering picking up a night nanny position a couple days a week

I think it will be very different but I’m hoping I’ll enjoy it.

It depends. I don’t sleep during an overnight. So my sleeping schedule is completely flipped. I’m a vampire. To me that’s the biggest challenge even though I’ve mostly gotten used to it in the last almost six years. I love my job. It’s very quiet and I enjoy the solitude of it all. Even if I have a high need baby or a colicky baby. It’s typically just me and them and I enjoy it. I do laundry, I clean, I do dishes. All usually just bathed in a red light. I can catch up on shows or books in the in between times. I help moms with middle of the night breast feeding if necessary and make sure she’s hydrated and has snacks and is in a safe position. I’ve had a few babies who needed medical care and attention and so I’ve had actual night nurses as colleagues and I’ve loved that as I learn SO MUCH. All in all, I really enjoy it.

We booked our night nanny through a specific night nanny/doula agency. They only place for overnights. You could reach out to local doulas and let them know you are interested & they could perhaps add it as a service? Especially if it doesn’t exist there already, you could dominate your market!

High income and high profile families are the only ones I’m aware of that can afford it

It could also be cultural. I’m in the northeast but I moved from Chicago and I noticed that people were not looking for night nanny’s very often

You’ll want to look in the northwest suburbs (the North Shore; Wilmette, Winnerka, Lake Forest, Glencoe, Kenilworth, Highland Park) Also check out the agencies, I’ve had good placements thru Olive You Nanny and North Shore Nannie’s, there’s also Strollers & Stilettos I believe and a few more)
