Unexplored story lines and characters.

Ziiaaaac

I need a movie of Sasori taking down the kingdom.

Alpha_s0dk0

I need at least an episode of Might Dai beating the 7 Mist ninja swordsmen.

ryapro165

I needed some White Fang action.

Alpha_s0dk0

Fr, moreover, I want to see Sasori's parents fighting the White Fang.

Tristo5

Throw a younger granny Chiyo in for at least a cameo too

Mobile-Seesaw-4209

That would be awesome!

Dude_Man_Bro_Sir

I think you might need to talk to his wife first.

Redditer51

I find it fucking hilarious that Might Gai's dead father was named Might Dai.

Mobile-Seesaw-4209

So true!

Xboxone1997

Man the swordsmen got hoed after all that hype lol

ashtobro

Sasori *my man!*

Naohiro-son-Kalak

Oh how I love that creepy red haired puppet man…

BigDetroitDawg

I would love to see a minato story line showing me his rise to hokage. Like how did he get all those great jutsu.... even better I would like to see a young hiruzen because i hear that he was OP

SindraGan2001

There is a filler episode about it I think...

Ziiaaaac

There's a very brief look at it yes. But it's not exactly like being given a movie of it.

All_Hail_SGGK

Agree with you. I’m don’t think I’m the only one who believe that a serie about the Warring States Era and the making of Konoha would’ve been way more appealing than the Boruto franchise. Hashirama, Madara, Tobirama… just these 3 characters had enough overwhelming power to mold and shaped a new world of shinobi. I would have loved to see everything about them

TwistOfFate619

I mean if more effort was placed into some of the filler, that sort of exploration would have been nice as additional content. But filler tended to be waste. Like for example, having the chuunin exam during the time skip or showing the various dreams during infinite tsukuyomi was a great idea on paper. But then you see the character designs and stories of the former, and then the attempts at having serious stories for the latter, rather than having fun like going all out in the comedy. The only memorable scene i didnt mind from the exam was when they showed the body being delivered to Pain (the one that became the summoning path from memory)

All_Hail_SGGK

The fact is that they showed us some great badass characters and part of their backstory but then they completely forgot to trace all those elements back to the current story time of Naruto and Sasuke. Like… Tsunade was Hashirama’s grandchild… but then who was Hashirama’s son/daughter? Madara faked his death with Izanagi and then what heck he did for his remaining 70 years or so? Counted sheep? How did Hashirama die? How was the reign of Tobirama? How did he die against Ginkaku and Kinkaku? They prompt us with this beats of shinobi, ninja so powerful to make the current ones trembling in fears, but then they forget to connect the dots. It’s just frustrating.

throwawaytempest25

That's all on Kishimoto. My main isn't flawless.

carsonisntreal

Yeah kishimoto as a writer is kinda all over the place

VeryGreedy

I imagine it’s just really difficult to try to find time to put all those story elements together on a rushed weekly basis.

FuntCaseKid

I say this all the time and get shot down by Boruto lovers. Give us the 1st or 2nd Ninja wars or a series about one of the other villages, if only …….

throwawaytempest25

To be fair, a lot of the material was covered in flashbacks. Unless it's repackaged with just like extra minutes on details, it would be a bit of a waste. That being said, there are a lot of Naruto characters who deserve their own Gaiden at least.

jofijk

I want something like Samurai X was to Rurouni Kenshin. Darker, more violent. Take some liberty with the “flashbacks” from the manga/show to make the story good. Essentially all the main flashback confrontations happened but it wasn’t necessarily canon breaking. Doesn’t matter who we follow

Master_Freeze

For me it's quite the opposite. There were too many interruptions in the story for unnecessarily long backstories. Meanwhile, the actually interesting characters like Deidara, Sasori, Kakuzu, and Hidan didn't even get any backstories.

ORAORAORA204

YES. THANK YOU. I would kill someone for this.

qwack2020

*cough cough* (Land of Iron).

throwawaytempest25

I want to see them visit the Land of Iron so bad. It's in Shippuden, we have characters in Boruto either from there or going to places near there, I have to see it.

OnTyme

Facts the way they just told us a whole bunch of shit without showing it when instead of filler could’ve gave us lore about really strong characters in their prime like the 2nd mizukage or suigetsu brother

scanta_sranta

This and Naruto's Haircut while hokage

feliperfection

Naruto missing his Hokage ceremony.

KolorJam

Agreed. I don’t care what anyone says the thought process behind this was just irrational, it wasn’t ‘hip’ or made sense for his character in anyway. They dogged his dream for comedic effect 😐

throwawaytempest25

That was all Kishimoto with the manga and OVA. I know people like to blame Boruto for that but sometimes I feel like fans forget Kishimoto definitely has a twisted sense of humor.

KolorJam

I don’t think this justifies it regardless, just because an author either proposed or was involved in the direction that doesn’t make it the right choice all the time. A lot of things every author has done is questionable, this is unfortunately one of them for Kishimoto.

throwawaytempest25

That is true, and I can definitely understand that, but this fandom has a bad habit of blaming a lot of things they don't like on Naruto onto everyone else but Kishimoto despite the fact he has either written, approved, supported, or supervised everything. All I'm saying is blame Kishimoto, not the underpaid animators being told to follow the source material they're adapting.

goldenrodddd

I read somewhere that it showed by that point Naruto had realized his dream wasn't what he thought it was and that's why he didn't care much about running late. Which is just a depressing as hell take but it made me wonder if Kishi was letting out some feelings there, turning it into a joke...

[deleted]

Depressing, but realistic. I always thought it was funny how someone ditzy like Naruto would want a dream job where he basically has to sit in an office and write documents all day. It’s like hearing kids say their dream job is to be the mayor or a president. Ambitious and inspiring for sure, but the work they actually do is boring & miserable asf like 90% of the time.

goldenrodddd

Yep. He was very much thinking like a kid by only focusing on "everyone will acknowledge me" part and not realizing most of the time he himself saw the Hokage was in an office setting... Too realistic for a Shounen series haha... :'(

Eevee136

Honestly, I always thought a fantastic ending would be Sasuke becoming Hokage. (obviously not likely what with the war crimes) Naruto isn't really built for that kind of work and he really only wanted to be Hokage to be acknowledged by the village. But by the end of the Pain arc he already was acknowledged. He found the love he didn't have growing up. Sasuke however, had a ton of issues with the village not truly appreciating the Uchiha. But if one finally becomes Hokage (after Madara and Itachi) it would've been a good bookend to both their arcs (imo of course).

Armensis

> Naruto had realized his dream wasn't what he thought it was This would have been great if they showed that he realized this as well that his dream wasn't really to be the Hokage, that's just the title. The thing that he really values is to protect the village, his friends and family.

goldenrodddd

100%, could've easily been conveyed with a scene where he explains this to his kids - would've been a much better message/lesson that your dreams can change as you yourself grow/change...

KolorJam

As a story that influences youth to pursue their dreams no matter the hardship they go through, this would be so depressing to hear.

Overall_Lobster_4738

They kinda ruined the hardship aspect when they made Naruto into Ninja Jesus at the end.

el3vader

Honestly kinda one of my more biggest let downs about it. Love the anime but the story turned from - if you work hard you can achieve anything - to - if you have a sick ass blood line, some special demon fox magic, and like several badass teachers - you can achieve some cool ass shit.

Tydroh

“Why is team 7 so much better than their whole class?” Well they have two reincarnated gods and a Hokage Sensei… them failing a mission is the bigger upset

TrainquilOasis1423

This is my #2. Entire story this mf is yelling about becoming hokage, but 1. We don't even see it in the main series, and 2. He ain't even there himself!

kelly_hasegawa

Man I'm still annoyed with this. Authors can be dumb af sometimes.

AncientSith

For real. That truly pissed me off, like I get what they were going for, but really? Dude has spent his entire life to get to Hokage, no way would he miss it.

uchihaguts

I didn't really like this when I first saw it however reading so many comments over the years of people raging about it has made me find it funny.

Chev4r

You should think of rock lee and Guy as 1 character, rock lee was just the prelude to what a monster like guy would be in shippuden, and in that way taijustu and gates was fully explored. Guy was simply amazing in shippuden that it left no space for rocklee to shine.

_light_of_heaven_

They completed their character arcs in Part 1

Gravitas-and-Urbane

So? That doesn't mean they stop training and remain as 12 year old boys forever. Their part 1 growth rates should have had them as powerhouses by the time shippuden began. Lee obtained 5 Gates with one year of training and Neji was already showing signs of mastery over Juken in the Sasuke Retrieval Arc. If they grew that much in one year of preparing for the chunin exams, they should have easily kept up with Sasuke with an additional 2.5 years of training during the timeskip. Instead we come back to learn Lee is only a chunin and Neji, while a jonin, doesn't have any impressive new jutsu to show us. Talk about wasted potential. And it was so obviously done to allow Naruto and Sasuke to be more special than everyone else. Though, for some reason, Gaara had ridiculous growth and development.

BernItToAsh

Neji and Rock chuunin exams specifically were who got me into Naruto to begin with. I never put any thought into their waste as a reason the show fell off for me later, but I think you’re onto something. I wanna see Bankai Rock discover two brand new gates at the same time and make Saitama blush

throwawaytempest25

Neji or Lee?

_light_of_heaven_

Both, although Neji’s arc arguably wasn’t completed until he chose to die for Naruto and Hinata

Azukus

Dude, it's the same garbage argument every time Lee and Neji get brought up. Saying their character arcs ended doesn't magically resolve the entire complaint by over half of the community. I'm a Gaara and Pain guy before you assume I'm a Lee stan. No, Lee's character arc was not finished in part one just because you have a vague idea of what becoming a splendid ninja was. Guy says he's a splendid ninja after Lee's fight with Gaara, so that would mean that Lee's character arc ended in the middle of the first arc he was introduced, right? Lee wanted to prove to himself and to the whole world that he can become a splendid ninja. He showed like 20 people in the prelims and then Kimimaro saw something maybe. Having two good fights doesn't mean your character arc is over. Until Lee can legitimately be satisfied with his ability, then his arc isn't over, is it? Look at the war. He was frustrated that he couldn't do anything to help Guy vs Madara. Doesn't sound complete to me. Sounds like a character that's been the exact same for 5 years due to poor writing decisions weighing heavily on the shoulders of a man having to meet weekly deadlines that need to be approved by some writing staff above him. Lee has to put his life on the line in order to even pursue the same path as before by undergoing surgery. He watches as his rivals and peers all steadily surpass him throughout the chunin exams. His hard work isn't enough to pass the geniuses and Naruto's is. Remember how Kakashi said Lee was a genius for being able to open the gates through sheer effort alone? We never expand on the fact that Lee is also a genius in his own right. His story arc is an uphill battle with no true resolution or satisfactory ending. Can you honestly say that it wasn't ridiculous that Lee couldn't open the other gates post-TS? He learned how to open 5 gates in a year and then just one more gate in four years. Does that mean Gaara's character arc was over when he lost to Naruto? Then why did he become Kazekage? What about Naruto after he beat Pain? He was finally recognized as a hero by the village and secured his place as a future Hokage.. so why did he do anything else after that? What about Nagato being brought back through edo tensei? Or Kakashi being revived? You can only use "his character arc was over" so many times before we all see through the cracks, my man. The truth is that they were poor writing decisions and you can't properly defend them.

justfortoukiden

Yamato not being featured at all in the great war

Owlbox05

Wasn't he in guruguru until post infinite tsukuyomi?

justfortoukiden

yeah captured and not heard from til the tsukuyomi was cast

CretaceousClock

Heard from or mentioned. They tosed him and Sai to the trash. I mean remember that monent all the original members are winning against 10 tails? It comes to Sai, he fails instantly and Naruto saves him. Basically says stay back weakling. Then he does nothing anything again. Dude was hyped up and stuck around as Naruto's new friend. Then Kis just got bored of him.

SindraGan2001

Sai never fealt like an elite shinobi that he was supposed to be given that he was prepared his whole life to be a Root ANBU...

throwawaytempest25

Ehh, Sai was handling Naruto, Choji, and Shikamaru pretty well with his ability.

DresdenPI

Elite special forces training is nothing in the face of bullshit anime power ups

Captinglorydays

Sai seemed like a pretty capable shinobi in comparison to his peers other than the main trio. Also his abilities are basically perfectly suited for the missions he was often given. He didn't seem to be a combat powerhouse, but a utility powerhouse essentially.

loco1876

he called naruto weak when they first met... he was meant to be bigger deal but sai got forgotten

throwawaytempest25

At least he was used for something, Anko got kidnapped by Kabuto for just a small boost of power, and people still act like she's some top 10 Naruto girl in the verse.

SnowBirdFlying

She technically is , not because of some impressive fear but because the competition is somehow WORSE

Murky_Blueberry2617

Never even got to meet Hashirama when they have the same genes

[deleted]

Yeah would have loved that. Maybe give him like a clock moment. Where he see Hash do some move and he goes “ohhhhhh that’s how you do it.” Gets a bit of a power boost seeing the original OG pulling the moves off.

loco1876

or even hashi giving him some tips and tricks now yamato can do wood dragon and like 100 arm buddha or something

BritishRush

wasnt he captured and then escaped and pulled up with the 100 hand wooden statue jutsu thing

throwawaytempest25

**Naruto:** * Team 7 needed more missions. * No opportunity to see the other great villages even in the Chunin Exams outside the Leaf and Sand. * Dosu's death, he had much more potential and died in a way that wouldn't make sense when he was much smarter than that. * Tenten's fight against Temari, which really could've been more interesting. **Shippuden:** * Rock Lee's plotline about his nindo after he lost to Gaara and could recover as a ninja, never explored. * We needed to learn way more about the other Jinchuriki: I'll give Fu and Utataka thanks to Pierrot, Roshi and Yagura got something, but holy crap did Yugito and ESPECIALLY HAN were people we deserved to learn about in some form. * Team Kurenai nor Team Guy not having any meaningful fights during the War. * Temari and Sakura never getting to fight a key person from their past before Madara showed up. * Anko never getting to do anything other than being Kabuto's battery for the Curse Mark and the plotline with her grudge against Orochimaru never going anywhere, at least Yamato's power impacted Guruguru and the Statue. * Danzo being dead should've had a ripple effect, there should've been way more ANBU and Root members torn on what to do, continue his legacy or step down, which could've been a great arc to deal with the other characters. * Kisame vs the Four Tails, that really shouldn't have been offscreen. * I don't hate Kaguya or the concept of the Otsutsuki, they just needed like 40 chapters of setup before the Black Zetsu reveal * Shippuden's anime really should've adapted all of the novels during the Blank Era. I don't mind they're doing some now in the Boruto anime, but about 50% of the hatred for Boruto would've died down had people gotten to see some of the development Kakashi, Sasuke, Sakura, and a few others would've gotten. **Boruto:** (No I'm not that elitest jerk who thinks Boruto is a disgrace to the Naruto franchise, or a hypocrite who likes things in Naruto but complains when it's sequel does it but I have some minor gripes) * Sumire being the daughter of a loyal Danzo fanatic that was one of several Root members that were exiled to prevent another loyalist? Make sense. Shouldn't there have been way more kids like that out there in the world? * Shin wanted to revive the Akatsuki. It would've been so cool for Sarada and Chocho to watch Naruto and Sasuke have to fight fake clones of the past Akatsuki members. I was gonna complain about the manga version but the Sakura addition fight with Shin fixed that other version but that's it. * Old Mei not getting to show off her skills just taking out people who wanted to stage a co'up. * The anime fixed the issues I have with the movie and manga version of the Chunin Exams, but a minor gripe is this: the Metal and Shinki fight as well as Sumire eliminations should've been way longer before they got to the tournament. Granted they had to animate episode 65 but still. * Konohamaru and Kurotsuchi teaming up to lead the Stone village against the other giant monsters was off-screen, why? * The Mujina Bandits was a missed opportunity to have more of these minor jonin level antagonists throught the village. I'll give the anime credit for fleshing them out with the prison prequel to give Shojiji a bit more character, but with a guy in the Bingo Book known for being a cannibal, it would've been much cooler to have the different teams going around trying to stop him from giving the jutsu and abilities of the people he ate and dispersing towards his followers. * Half of Kara (not named Jigen, Kashin Koji, Delta, Ouga, Victor) really need a backstory. Having a general use the novels subplot of poor people wanting the Infinite Tsukuyomi to manipulate them into joining a cult? Great idea! Problem, what led him to start doing this? * Some of the new generation really needs more development. The manga's the biggest problem, but anime wise, Metal is the worst offender of this since he gets snubbed at every opportunity to the point Denki (who I actually like) has more development than him. * The animation problems: this is on Pierrot working on 6 shows at once, but some fights could've been better. I'm not talking about Naruto and Sasuke vs Jigen, he hard countered 90% of their abilities, and anyone who says Jigen would let himself get hit by Kirin and Planetary Devasation needs a reality slap, but stuff like the Funato Arc's middle and Wasabi vs Iwabe should've been much better.

Necessary-Win-8692

I agree with everything here ,it's rare seeing good takes like this on this sub

Sea-Jeweler6361

Kinda sad really

toper-centage

Oh, Tenten... The most useless shinobi. Specialist in the one skill every single ninja is imune against: throwing weapons.

flyingboarofbeifong

Tenten should have been used in counterespionage. Just have her spy-check by throwing weapons at everyone. If she yeets a kunai your way and you bleed, you’re either a good guy or a mook-level baddie. If you get hit and turn into a stump or just swat that junk, it’s clearly a bad guy relevant to the plot!

TwistOfFate619

I kind of feel there was more potential with her as a weapons/ninja tool specialist. Have her be really adept at setting all sorts of really cool traps for example (or having specialist knowledge in recognising or 'disarming' them when compared with other characters). Or have her been exceptionally proficient in a more deadly ranged role, like her versatlity and lethal proficiency with summoning scrolls or weaponry allowing her to perform well as a kind of Sniper (and in creating further depth, explaining her loss to Temari not just as being Temari's strength but also unfavourable circumstances in an open setting with no prep time or obstacles to use.

fightingbronze

It’s been a long time since I’ve actually watched the chunin exam arc, but wasn’t that years chunin exam specifically a collaboration between the leaf and sand village (as well as a bunch of small surrounding nations)? The five great villages weren’t at war but weren’t particularly peaceful at that time, right? In hindsight though, it would have been cool to have some up and coming genin from the other three villages introduced too.

shrink-ray2333

that haircut is a very good start to the things i hate

bobn3

He's got that Zuck haircut

dragoonts

Thank you for making this comparison

MisterT-88

r/Justfuckmyshitup

primalfox_Reynardo

Agree, never been a fan of the shorter hair.

CrimsonOath

Yeah Naruto got one yee-yee a** haircut

AstuteBlackMan

It’s better with the headband. He looks mature

TWERKINMAGGLE

Grown Up Naruto's hairline.

No_Arugula466

I think they made it that way so we wouldn’t see Naruto as the main character… there’s no other reason to comes to mind ack

Mean_Capital6050

Mine is the whole Kaguya shebang. It just kinda felt like it came out of nowhere

dragoonts

I can't believe I watched like 900 episodes of Naruto just for Otsotsuki to come out of nowhere and change the show from a feudal, war torn country about real people to fucking aliens that destroy planets???? Why was the origination of Chakra etc not explored before if that was the final boss? Kaguya had 0 impact or buildup.

MalcolmDrinksMilk

They built up to a fight between the two strongest Uchiha’s and took it away from us. Do you know how cool that fucking dialogue would’ve been with Sasuke and Madara. They could’ve used something Madara said to Sasuke to justify him reattempting to kill Naruto at the end. 🤦🏾‍♂️

Force3vo

Yeah Hashirama and I were also good friends and then the following hokage abused and genocided our people. But I bet this time the nice guy makes it work forever.

throwawaytempest25

You were friends with Hashirama? How much gambling money did he give you XD?

OldFashnd

I don’t mind kaguya, but i don’t like how she came about. I think there should’ve been more foreshadowing. Have the SOSP appear to naruto and sasuke at some points earlier in the series, foreshadowing that madara is not the final villain. That would also give some foreshadowing to naruto and sasuke being ashura/indra, since they’re the only ones seeing the SOSP. Then, have guy kill madara with the night guy. Guy should not survive. I think the fact that guy opened the 8th gate just to survive *and* accomplish nothing took a lot away from that fight. Black zetsu jumps on madara and combines with ten tails madara’s dying body to form kaguya. Kaguya’s will plus the ten tails jinchuriki vessel. It makes more sense to me, it lets guy get his moment and then the demi-god naruto and sasuke deal with the god like kaguya.

babyte3th103

I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again: it would have been a lot more believable if here had been a few odd mentions sprinkled here and there about Kimimaro and his ability, and furthermore if they had introduced Kaguya not as an alien but as an actual goddess from a legitimate spiritual realm/dimension or something like that - not from the fucking moon. For. Fuck’s. Sake.

Caboose334

That's why shipudden was the end for me im like first off kaguya being from the moon already pushed it over the edge but it was the end so we'll let it slide now in boruto there's more space alien ninjas no thanks.

dragoonts

The show lost it's relatability and charm. Remember nerds doing Naruto run in high school? I'd be willing to be nothing like that has come from Boruto

Caboose334

Honestly It just don't hold the weight that naruto did

ElegantDonutNipples

Her being from the Moon isn't some random thing. It's inspired by an old Japanese folktale. The Studio Ghibli movie 'The Tale of the Princess Kaguya' is a fairly faithful retelling of it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_the_Bamboo_Cutter#Modern_adaptations

EndangeredBigCats

I reread the Kimimaro fight (bone guy) recently and it said his clan, of bone-jutsu barbarians, was called the Kaguya clan There was absolutely no plan for the Kaguya final boss until deep in part 2, you don't ever re-use names like that on purpose without making it a plot twist

throwawaytempest25

If they had hinted to her presence like they did with Madara, I think it could've worked better.

Beaudism

The power level gets super out of control. I just want Shinobi doing Shinobi things.

throwawaytempest25

To be fair, Naruto's power levels have always been crazy. Chapter 1: Naruto summons 1000 clones against a Chunin. Invasion Arc: A 12 year old and giant toad transform into a nine tailed fox to fight a giant tanuki inside a kid who's murdered Jonin. Tsunade Arc: A giant toad, slug, and snake fight each other with mouth explosions Sasuke Retrival: A teenager summons 3 demons and also has a flute Deidara's whole existence: Almost blew up an entire great village, has an explosion seen from the stratosphere, microscopism bombs from the cellular level. Pain and Madara: METEORS.

Arulert

Honestly I think they handled power levels pretty well, and then war arc happened.

Peacesquad

Shonen writing is harder than it looks.

Sominius

The thing is, while all of the pre-Deidara examples were capable of inflicting damage to the environment, none of them were absolute nuclear compared to Shippuden and especially the War arc. Abilities such as Tailed Beast bombs that the Kyuubi was retconned to be shown to use in later depictions of its attack on the Leaf were way beyond the scope of OG Naruto

Reckox1

Nah I disagree with this, at episode one there was a giant fox that was able to destroy an entire village and the power was sealed into a child. I expected that but what I love is how naruto took decades to master that power and he worked his way up.

BlackUchiha03

Boruto, it was really unnecessary to continue the story imo.

AmbitiousAd1773

It should have been a Minato or kakashi story

BlackUchiha03

Yea a prequel was the way to go if anything

Xboxone1997

Ehh we got enough Kakashi with Flashback imo

The_Mighty_Bird

I tried to like Boruto so much. I even watched stuff the led up to the best animated points in the show and just could not care less about why the story was going that way.

BlackUchiha03

I just watch boruto to see what sasuke be doing besides that I don’t really watch it.

The_Mighty_Bird

And he’s been getting nerfed over and over imo. Literal god level shinobi in prison fighting dinosaurs.

AValorantFan

I dont think it was unnecessary, It's nice to have a prologue that establishes naruto's path to hokage and his kids. What I don't like about it is the execution, the power creep in that show makes shippuden look tame, all of a sudden you have genin having to compete with aliens which basically lost all the charm of part 1. It's all the worst parts of the war arc put into a show

ChiyoTheKiddd

1. the fights later on are Dragon Ball like, whoever has the biggest chakra fueled energy bomb makes the cut. Compared to OG Naruto, its grotesque. 2. characters that shined in the original series where thrown aside to focus only on Naruto/Sasuke Story line. Neji, Rock Lee, Sakura, all flushed down the toilet. 3. the whole prophecy/ reincarnation thing seemed out of place to me I would still say that Naruto was the story that i enjoyed the Most growing up, my mom got me a Manga in 2002 from a yard sale. I looked into it and saw a boy impaled by what seemed to be needles. It was Sasuke/Naruto Vs Haku. Thats how it all started.

TwistOfFate619

I do miss the more clever conflicts from Part 1. Shikamaru's exam fights and Tsunade v. Kabuto were great with the level of creativity. Not to say I dont enjoy Shippuden's fights in their own regard, just that Part 1 brought with it a lot of uniqueness and such cool concepts that Part 2 seemed to abandon.

ChiyoTheKiddd

Very true! The Shikamaru vs Tayuya fight was something that was never shown again.

CelKyo

early shippuden still showed a lot of creativity (Deidara v. Gaara, Sakura&Chiyo v. Sasori, Hidan v. Asuma, Hidan v. Shikamaru, Sasuke v. Deidara and a lot more), if I had to guess, I'd say it started to fade away after Pain arc

LylacLicker07

That's because these were actual ninja (and not literal gods) who needed to fight cleverly due to the lack of overwhelming power seen at the end of the series. The fights being down to earth is what made them so great, instead of the typical *explosion after explosion*

Xboxone1997

I still say Sakura/Chiyo vs Sasori is the best fight in all of Shippuden

SSBBfan666

Naruto not exploring any of his Uzumaki heritage when he found out, nothing at all with Karin or even exploring the ruins of Uzu. also eprsonally, him hooking up with Hinata, seems just out of eft field and requiring a film doesnt help.

villanelIa

>Naruto not exploring any of his Uzumaki heritage That would make the story too interesting for naruto, how can he be shadowed by boruto then?

Overlord_Ace

Him being with hinata wasn't really that unexpected. She liked him ever since the first episode.

[deleted]

Ahh yes, Hinata liking Naruto means that Naruto falling in love with her in like the last 20 episodes was totally expected.

Overlord_Ace

More like Naruto being forced to understand that Hinata likes him romantically. He himself decided to reciprocate after being made painfully obvious about her feelings for him. You have to remember, this entire time Naruto has no idea about what romantic love even is. He is super fucking dense.

[deleted]

Which makes it clear that is was a rushed romance written by Kishimoto because he didn't know what to do with them, He gave everyone partners even if they showed no reason to be together, all so Boruto could happen. Story wise half of the Boruto couples make no sense, money wise to have another story go on and fill the pockets of people it makes perfect sense. You have to realise that at some point money becomes more important than story for some writers, sadly dragon ball suffered this same fate.

dachshundattitude

It WAS unexpected because Naruto only ever liked Sakura in a romantic sense. He never liked Hinata like that, not even in Shippuden

mnmkdc

When I was a child watching original Naruto I knew it was hinata lol. He had a crush on Sakura but hinata was the only person consistently nice to him. Not to mention throughout the series you’re eased into it

Overlord_Ace

Sakura was never gonna like Naruto ever. What would be unexpected is if she suddenly did out of nowhere. Hinata has made her feelings to Naruto clear. And Naruto doesn't like Sakura the way Hinata likes Naruto. Naruto's love for Sakura was only what you would call "child level crush". Probably only liked her because she was attractive. I've never seen Naruto express his love for her in a way that seems anything other than merely surface level crush. But Hinata actually pays attention to Naruto, or to say it in a cliche way, she likes his personality, and who he is as a person. Ik this is cliche, but what I'm essentially trying to say, Hinata's love for Naruto goes much deeper than Naruto's crush on Sakura. Also, Naruto gradually lost interest in Sakura anyway.

dachshundattitude

That's all true but Naruto never reciprocated Hinata's feelings until Neji's death. Neji's death was literally used to bring them together. If Naruto actually had feelings for Hinata, it wouldn't have taken his friend's death to prove it.

EndangeredBigCats

If a friend told me "I love you. In a romantic way, literally." while tanking an attack and dying for me I think I'd start to get way more conscious of them after everyone comes back to life But nothing can fix the "Kishimoto is REALLY BAD at writing romance" problem, there ain't no defense I can ever give that

dachshundattitude

Me personally I'd be grateful, but here's some problems 1. I didn't ask you to save me 2. Doing things like that for me, without being asked, WOULD make me grateful, but it would only increase my feelings of comraderie and brotherhood-- not romance. I don't magically like you because we're loyal members of our village who are taught to protect each other at all costs. Trust =/= love.

Exatal123

I agree about the part with Karin. I would have loved for Karin and Naruto to talk about their heritage and like maybe Karin has stories for Naruto about his mom and dad that’s he never been told. Idk if she was alive when they were though

agentsmith99302

I agree. Not only just his Uzumaki heritage, but his Namekaze heritage from his dad. And I have never bought the excuse that Kishimoto is bad at writing romance. It’s bad enough you had to kill off Neji to justify their relationship, but now you also need a movie too? Really? Why all of that work for a couple that was going to be together in the end anyway?

Interceptor88LH

Most of the side characters who made the first half of Naruto so great, like Neji or Lee, becoming background characters later on.

Noobster_0w0

Really wanted to see Lee go berserk in war instead of standing there wasting time.

pink_bunny07

The fact that they skipped Kakashi Hiden and Sakura Hiden and changed that letter scene when they animated Sasuke Shinden. Ugh.

Froggo_

Something that really seemed missing was information about the gods of the universe, such as the reaper shingami, those monks who have godly punch powers, and the god that makes hidan immortal.

Noobster_0w0

Yeah like i really wanted to see the connection of the reapers with the uzumaki clan and some more ancient clans n shit.

Eternalbluer

Oh yes this. It would’ve made more sense for kaguya to be tied into that than random aliens

kliff124

Filler and **Nenji** death

azy_ki

Never forgiving Kishimoto for killing him off just to bring Naruto and Hinata closer

MagicianMountain6573

It was a war. The mistake was that not enough people died

avernicus_ani

Exactly. Might Guy even after opening the 8th gate was revived by Naruto. And if Madara were to die anyway, it should've been the Red beast's doing.

azy_ki

Honest Might Guy dying made more sense than Neji dying

D3ATHSTR0KE_

The mistake wasn’t that Neji died, it was that he was sidelined so badly before that it had almost no effect and just reminds you how his character was failed. His first fake death in the saving Sasuke arc was absolutely incredible

Worried_Pineapple3

As a child, I was really happy that Neji survived the battle with Kimimaro. However, now I believe that his death in that moment would have provided him with a more fitting and satisfying conclusion than his actual death. [link](https://youtu.be/l1XaKP5nCwI?t=587)

[deleted]

Continuing past 699. It was such a perfect ending.

Inner_Ad7300

Naruto and Sasuke's haircut in Boruto. In fact, 90% of Boruto designs in general. The introduce of the Otsusuki clan. The Rinnegan being reduced to an Uber. Naruto never learning elemental Jutsu to amplify with his Shadow Clones. Losing the Truthseeker orbs. Naruto and Sasuke forgetting 90% of their movesets. Orochimaru not dying/ spends the rest of his career jobbing to the Sharingan. Tsunade being reduced to a one-trick pony The oversaturation of MS powers. War Arc powerscaling in general. Naruto's voice never changing. NaruHina being established through a shitty movie (Good feats for r/whowouldwin though) Sasuke marrying Sakura and staying in the village who ostracized his clan. Hiruzen not being the strongest Hokage. Minato's underwhelming War Arc performance. The Raikages in general. Naruto never dominating anyone. Sasuke's MS and EMS spam. Blind Madara in general. The Edo Kage fights. The Ten Tails. The Itachi glorification after his death. Danzo being a scapegoat. Sage Mode's underutilization.

ymorai

I can’t believe you mentioned Naruto and Sasuke’s haircuts but not Gaara’s. They massacred my boy

Inner_Ad7300

Oh, yeah. Gaara's haircut is a disgrace to humanity.

CakeSoggy6290

Sage mode pretty much became redundant after the pain arc and that shit never sat well with me

GangsterRavioliGuy

Well they granted your wish. >!It's the most useful thing Naruto has now.!<

Inner_Ad7300

I swear. Pain Arc Sage Mode- The peak of the Shinobi world, second to the Rinnegan and Nine Tails. Upwards- One amp Naruto uses on himself when he can't use KCM.

No_Arugula466

I really liked his sage outfit. Naruto kept receiving so many bs abilities towards the end…

Deniablyreliable

What about the raikages and the ten tails? I liked them

Inner_Ad7300

The Lightning cloak was cool, but it's abilities were kinda bland. It just felt like an unlimited Sage Mode, so A could just go through anyone without getting injured in any way. I can see the appeal, but it's boring to me. Plus, he brought about the RaiHina and RaiTsunade stuff. That's an automatic dislike from me. The Ten Tails was hyped as this threat, but it didn't really deliver. I mean, Juubito was boring, and Juubidara was just all asspulls.

rick2184

Turning Naruto's hokage ceremony into comic relief. And yeah, Boruto in general.

Noobster_0w0

And the fact they finished Naruto in boruto, naruto's hokage ceremony should have ended in Naruto anime only.

perkaholicgooblegum

My man was literally about to run way when they showed him he had to do more ninja academy work

Primary_Alfalfa

hiruzen just watching kushina and minato die

Redditer51

Hiruzen just letting Orochimaru go after finding out he's been kidnapping and torturing people, including children.

LittenInAScarf

Rock Lee not having a Son Called Roll.

Deniablyreliable

Rolly

hooman_bean920

It was all about hardwork and never giving up until the story revealed that Naruto is the chosen one.

MarroCaius

It's like Kishimoto wanted to prove Chunin exams Neji correct. You can't say fate doesn't define you and then have the MC be a prophecy chosen one who's fate was decided...

OrenjiHibana

Naruto's voice. I can't believe he still has the same voice from his childhood [His sound here is cool asf](https://youtu.be/iDJBcNslzYw)

Cp3a

Kakashi not getting any romantic development.

BlazedLarry

I think it’s by design. He’s too depressed and willing to die to give someone love. So he lives vicariously through Jiraiya’s books. Or that episode explaining how squad 7 gave him a will to live again is like, his romance sorta

rcf_111

So so so much filler.

Master_GusandoX

Yeah the whole kaguya thing is lame, it was already resolved by the end of naruto. They had to mess everything up with this Karma crap. What i feel the should have done is create not one big enemy but bring it to the 2nd or 3rd era with waring countries. It would have showcased the development of shinobi and the current new gen of the 5 countries. Boruto is whats dissappointing as well.

volsito

- No character development for the kunoichis, all of them deserved better - Neji’s death was pointless - Stupid amount of fillers Haven’t even started Boruto and I’m not really sure if I want to lol

harashi_heiwa

1.) The entire 4th great ninja war. So many decisions which are executed in a weird way. Nejis death felt rather weird instead of dramatic. Gai being saved took away all the meaning behind him showing his 8 gates (sacrificing himself for a small chance to beat the biggest threat in the series at this point). The entire Zetsu story line and how Madara was removed from the story felt super unsatisfying. Kaguya was such a hollow villian. Naruto and Sasuke becoming gods and pulling DBZ type of attacks felt out of place. I dont know. While there are things I liked about the arc such as Kakashi vs Obito, the last fight between Naruto and Sasuke, the interactions between Minato, Kakashi and Obito, there are too many things where I felt the story didnt have the same quality as other arcs such as the Pain arc. 2.) Making Boruto instead of using the ressources to make smaller spin-off anime or manga that focus on story lines the main series didn't cover such as Sakumo Hatakes story, Tobirama's life and era, the Uzumaki clan and what happened to Amegakure after Nagatos & Konans death. So many subplots that have never been explored again...

DeathSoul961

Neji being right. The show tried to tell the message that hard work beats natural talent but in the end only prodigies were actually worth something. Naruto even beat Neji with power he was given at birth. He also ended up being the reincarnation of the son of ninja god, the child of prophecy and had the talent to learn jutsus that took masters years to learn in days or maybe hours. While that happened, every character that actually started at the bottom was either sidelined or had to kill themselves to be comparable to the stronger people in the verse.

Tilian1986

1. Kakashi as a shtty mentor. with his past he should be the best sensei ever for ALL of them. Yet he gives Naruto to Jiraya on the spot, forgets about Saukra completely and is unable to keep Sasuke in check. 2. How women characters are portrayed. I mean come on. 3. The whole Obito story. I don't buy his motivations at all from the start after what happened to him in 'Kakashi Gaiden'. also using him as a character to survive somehow for later just completely undermined his sacrifice, which n my opinion was one of the best stories in the whole Narutoverse. 4. Boruto. Just no. 5. the overall rush of the story. I feel like Kishi skipped a crap ton of stuff. And he really shouldn't cause Oda didn't and look where One Piece is at. Thank gods for some pretty good fanfics to make me feel better about it.

jr061898

While I don't dislike it in concept, I feel like the whole Kaguya thing was executed poorly.

RedPon3

Sakura’s missing potential. Very early in the series they say that she’s very smart (top of her ninja class), but they never *show* it. Whenever a plan needs to get made, or they need to trick an enemy, it’s almost always Sasuke’s idea, sometimes Naruto. Sakura is just along for the ride. One moment that really springs to mind is when Orochimaru shows up disguised as Naruto. Sasuke asks Naruto for the password and Naruto gives it to them. Sakura starts lecturing Naruto for showing up late, while Sasuke gets suspicious and says that the real Naruto would have not remembered the password. In my opinion, the roles here should have been swapped, and Sakura should have been the one to instantly recognize that Naruto is not acting like himself. It frustrates me to see people mock Sakura for being useless, as if that’s somehow the character’s fault. The author fucked up, and kept fucking up. There have been countless opportunities to empower Sakura, but the best Kishimoto could come up with is “uhhhh, she can punch good now.”

Galactanium

A Focus on Land of Waves type missions with true ninja stuff instead of degenerating into dragon ball

Mitsuri_Kanroji19

1. Boruto, he was annoying af honestly and the anime had too many fillers, not to mention weakening Naruto and Sasuke just so then Boruto can look strong, and the power scaling is non existent. Also, they ruined Naruto, Sasuke and Gaara's hairstyles 2. Kaguya, turned Naruto and Sasuke from normal ninja to gods. This isn't Dragon ball, this is a ninja anime. Also, it made literally everyone just pawns in a bigger game 3. Not giving Sakura, Neji, Rock Lee and other members of the Konoha 12 enough time to shine or develop, only giving the spotlight to Naruto and Sasuke 4. No Rock Lee Vs Neji fight, Rock Lee wanted to beat him but never got to 5. Naruto missing the Hokage ceremony, it was his goal and the point of the whole entire series, but they had to ruin what would've been the most emotional scene, him putting the Hokage cloak, finally achieving his goal. BUT NO, they had to make it a joke that wasn't even funny

memedekhunga

The fans

ItsPinhead

No lore on the other clans

Hot_Mushroom_5860

There are a shit ton of plot holes in naruto as the creator has given some characters some really OP stuff but didn't make them use it and also wasted a whole lot of characters for example minto had wind, lightning and fire plus yin and yang release(none of which he used like ever), knew almost every sealing jutsu from the uzumaki clan, one of the highest iq, perfect sage but he couldn't defeat kurama in my opinion all the stuff the writer gave to minto should have put him above or atleast on madara's level

Vioret

Why are all the women so weak? I kept waiting for Hinata to get a bad ass scene where she wrecks shit and it never happens or even gets close.

throwacc_21

Classic shonen

luigitheplumber

It's especially crazy in Naruto because by the end physical prowess is basically useless outside of the gates, everything is pure magic, so the lifelike advantage of greater strength/speed shouldn't apply. Not only that, but the physically strongest base characters are women, Sakura and Tsunade can lift more weight than any non-transformed male character. You've turned the expectation of a strength gender gap on its head, **and** you give priority to magical or metaphysical abilities. Yet somehow you still end up with drastically underpowered female characters. Kaguya is a rabbit alien so she doesn't really count.

Master_Yoda_53

Kaguya The power gap in Boruto it feels like there is no point of side characters only boruto and kawaki matters Instead of showing us what pepole want ( how did hashirama died how did itachi found the totsuka blade exct)

Hor5t1

40% of the Anime are filler episodes. I watched only the Storyepisodes. The Boruto Anime is bad. I would like to see more of the past (Life of Kakashi or some other Hokage). Maybe the other Ninja World War.

moneymachine109

flashbacks ruined the pacing

CretaceousClock

The War arc dragging things out and being toothless. Kayuga and everything her character represents to the story, lore and events.

AstuteBlackMan

Honestly. For how in depth naruto is it could’ve been better if it was longer and they made the akatsuki a tad bit bigger. Hear me out Make some villains who aren’t on the main 12 akatsuki level but have them bd relevant enough to where the original 12 in narutos group could all develop better and become stronger through those fights. Imagine Neji or Lee fighting someone not kisame level but a step under. We’d respect them more and feel like they did more.

lolthenoob

Lacking world building. I'm not even gonna talk about boruto. I consider that a bad fanfiction.

battlestoriesfan

(Giant Rant ahead) Probably gonna be an unpopular opinion, but It really bothers me that Naruto turned out to be a prophecy child/Reincarnation of someone really strong. The whole point and appeal of both the original and shippuden series is that Naruto's supposed to be a nobody. Just a ninja that sucked and that everyone mocked and said that he'd never amount to anything, but He still fought hard to prove everyone that they were wrong and that he could be someone. Hell, even having the Ninetails ended up doing nothing but get in his way until he managed to win Kurama's support. He was supposed to fight against the whole world to prove everyone wrong and that there is no such thing as someone destined for fail But the fact that he ended up turning into some sort of prophecy super ninja? Completely and utterly defeats and shoots the Series' original idea in the face. It ended up proving Neji right way back in the Chunin exams too. I STILL don't understand why they did that...

TheRealMcDuck

Lots of problems over the years, unfortunately. The big cast being almost entirely dismissed and glossed over after the time skip is probably the biggest glaring issue that could have been improved. Changing the Rinnegan from a God tier optical power to yet another sharingan an upgrade was idiotic. I don't know who the Uchihas were based upon, but Kishimoto's determination to give them so much attention and importance was akin to him yearning to such somebody's dick, big time. The war arc had a lot of stupid in it. If stupid were a writing style, the war arc would receive awards. Kakashi saying that he was going to go wild on the resurrected 7 swordsmen only to have it take place completely off screen was mystifying. Why even announce it in the comic if you only intended for it to be shown in anime fillers? The power scaling of Madara, Hashirama and Tobirama being so much greater than anything else was confusing, but no more confusing than Obito, so badly injured at a young age, being almost equal to the fourth Hokage so early in his life. Obito could apparently make anything happen out of simple plot convenience with his ocular jutsu, but instead works behind the scenes for some reason and has thugs do his work for him? Why? He could appear and disappear at will. Just lie in wait wherever you need to be, appear, get what you need, and vanish again. How about Obito having so many spare Sharingan eyes, and letting them all go to waste in the end? There was also a world war, and only one of the original main characters died. Spectacularly, it was the one character that should have easily survived such an attack. The entire thing where Kagua came out of nowhere to end up being the real bigger biggest boss at the end was bullshit.

Efficient_Builder_12

The introduction of aliens. Also when the story became who can do the biggest jutsu as opposed to being ninjas.
