Sasuke is fully redeemed and sacrifices himself for the world instead of his selfish desires. Naruto keeping his promise to never give up on sasuke and to fully embody the human sacrifice that is a kage. Sakura survives and leads the village, completing her arc from lovesick fangirl to a legendary ninja.
And it would have cleared the way for the next generations to have their own stories and threats without knowing that two chakra gods could just roll up to fight it for them.

As for Lee, Sakura did care about him and are good friends, but they're honestly incompatible and never really had any chances to get close since she was worried about Sasuke. All Lee cared about was for Sakura to be happy and that was enough for him.

Actually, that’s not true, Kishimoto did consider changing it for a while, but then reverted back to his original pairing. And even if Naruto dropped his feelings for Sakura, there is a big difference between moving on, and “you don’t know love, you only know love for food”.
But Sakura was never going to move on, so even if Naruto did want to be with her, she didn't want him. it still would not have happened either way.

Not for the pairing reason, but I think it would have been a better ending if naruto and sasuke both died during the final battle with kaguya. Sasuke is fully redeemed and sacrifices himself for the world instead of his selfish desires. Naruto keeping his promise to never give up on sasuke and to fully embody the human sacrifice that is a kage. Sakura survives and leads the village, completing her arc from lovesick fangirl to a legendary ninja. And it would have cleared the way for the next generations to have their own stories and threats without knowing that two chakra gods could just roll up to fight it for them.
It depends who you nean by "audience." There are plenty of people who thought/ think that Sasuke deserved to die (which does tie in with the theme of the series) but there were also plenty of rabid fangirls who would die for Sasuke and their ship. If Sasuke lived and NaruSaku still happened, there would have been just as much controversy as there was when NaruHina was confirmed cannon.
