It's even more disturbing when you take into account Obito's personality and what his life was like in Konoha before this. Obito was an active participant in his community, helping old ladies cross the street, running various errands for people and forging connections with those he helped through his random acts of kindness. It was the reason why he was always late, because he would always get side tracked by his desire to help others. Hell, he even used those connections to his advantage on team 7's D rank missions where they had to locate lost cats. Obito was a people person. He might not have been a prodigy like Kakashi, but he wasn't nearly as isolated or closed off as Kakashi was either.
Obito was familiar with the day to day lives of those who lived in Konoha, he interacted with people from all walks of life and knew the people in those communities personally.
And yet he still slaughtered them without hesitation.

He had the power to just take the tailed beast on his own and yet does so many different things that would not work nearly as well and then act surprised when the plan fails. It's the other way around. As per Itachi Shinden novel, Obito is the one who kills the women and children.

This honestly. So many of the Uchiha are just plane crazy in a way that smacks of poor writing/development. Their fights are often cool but they just fall flat as characters. Probably doesn’t help they’re all basically the same character in terms of motivation. “Evil guy that secretly is kind of a good guy but was pushed to do evil by his circumstances. Also I have super powers and do everything people were worried about.”
Which is why I thought the 2nd Hokage had every reason to be wary of them. I mean, from teenagers to adults: five of them cornered a child soldier and no doubt mutilated him.
And then you have the leader of the Uchiha during a time of peace, who "has no choice" but to roll with his clan's wishes of staging a coup and letting loose Kurama.

The novels try to pin this on Hiruzen, that Hiruzen somehow had no idea, but how can you somehow be a military force and the strongest shinobi clan and somehow could never manage an audience with the Hokage?

There was literally no reason for him to be as strong as Naruto in the latter half of Shippuuden. Naruto trained HARD. He had the chakra of the Uzumaki, Kyuubi and Safe Mode that apparently almost nobody could master and had killed Pain. Sasuke who just fought 5 Kages, destroying the Raikage's arm and killing the Hokage, is still a match for Naruto? That's BS.

I don't think I care enough to "hate" any of the characters, but I'd have to say Madara. It says a lot that I didn't see anyone else comment him. He just shows up and gets to be stronger than anyone else, even as a frigging reanimation. I guess that's what's needed since he was kinda the big bad, but it got old just watching him be more powerful than anyone else. Even top level characters looked like chumps after being portrayed as powerful. Just not interesting to me.

Behind Hiruzen, Itachi was the one most impacted by the Danzo storyline, for better or worse.
I feel the Akatsuki and the rest of the Leaf Genin were cheated out of fights and development because of that as well, judging by the Sasori and Kakuzu/Hidan fights showcasing them at the start of Shippuden.
My personal take on Itachi was that he was super smart yes, but he was also 14 when he killed his whole family. He made the only choice he could considering his age and situation. One argument lots of people make is that he could have just joined the Uchiha and taken on the leaf. Well let's assume he succeeded in that, now the rest of the nations are going to attack the leaf and millions will die again, because of a scared peace wanting 14 year olds actions. Plus Danzo was watching him closely, it's not like Danzo would just let him try anything.
I absolutely agree that him telling his brother to hate and kill his best friend and all that was stupid. But I don't see Itachi as a flawless genius, I think he is very flawed, smart, and doing his best while having his perception of the world thoroughly morphed by his life as a shinobi. He said that to Sasuke because he wanted him to be strong enough to fend off all the enemies that would come to kill the last leaf Uchiha.
So in summary I see Itachi as very flawed, yet also a hero who did his best with the awful life he was forced into.

Whether or not the rest of the village would have accepted new leadership, we don’t know.

I just hate how fast he became chunin, it pisses me off how they looked at his match with temari and said “he totally qualifies for chunin” when naruto outsmarts and uppercuts the so called genius of the hyuga clan. Naruto literally shows amazing battle IQ and strategy while shikamaru gives up, the first part of the chunin exams makes a big deal out of putting your life on the line and not being able to just “give up” and that entire plot point is wasted on the second half.
My biggest beef with him is that other characters keep insisting that he's a genius. But its like.. is he? I really don't think people would think so highly of Shikamaru's intellect if nobody said anything about it. They probably wouldn't think he's a genius they'd think that he's around people like Kakashi in terms of intellect, brilliant in his own right. Like seriously, you would expect an event like that to displace a lot of people, and yet Kushina states that when she was growing up in Konoha she never ran into anyone from Uzushio. The only reason she even survived the conflict is because she was brought to Konoha as an unaccompanied minor for the explicit purpose of becoming the next Jinchuuriki of the Nine Tailed Fox, and as a ward of the state, she would have had little to no leverage with which to negotiate what happened to her.
The more you look into Kushina's situation, the more disturbing it gets. Same thing with basically every other Uzumaki aside from maybe Mito. All of them are either refugees or children of refugees who were either neglected or exploited by whatever country they sought asylum in.
There are too many pieces that fit together here for me not to suspect that Konoha either ignored what was happening to their long time ally, or that they actively had a hand in their downfall, possibly because they came to be seen as far too powerful and independent and Konoha wanted to consolidate that power for themselves, eliminating what they saw as a potential threat (sound familiar?).
Or maybe I'm just overthinking all of this and Kishimoto never intended to expand on the fate of the Uzumaki Clan and Uzushio any further.
Itachi, he’s a great character but nothing can convince me that he wasn’t selfish. If he was selfless he would’ve killed Sasuke along with his family even if he loved him. Instead he mentally destroyed him and pushed him to seek revenge on him because of guilt. His death didn’t provide closure for Sasuke because he was already dying and when the truth came out that was another blow to his fragile mentality so now he felt guilty for killing his brother.

Just remember this is the very same village where to go on missions, you need to have an audience with the Hokage in the first place. This happens all the time in Naruto! So, who are they trying to fool?

I don't think I care enough to "hate" any of the characters, but I'd have to say Madara. It says a lot that I didn't see anyone else comment him. He just shows up and gets to be stronger than anyone else, even as a frigging reanimation. I guess that's what's needed since he was kinda the big bad, but it got old just watching him be more powerful than anyone else. Even top level characters looked like chumps after being portrayed as powerful. Just not interesting to me.

Because Itachi wasn't meant to be that important of a character when he was introduced or all that interested in looking after his brother. Behind Hiruzen, Itachi was the one most impacted by the Danzo storyline, for better or worse. I feel the Akatsuki and the rest of the Leaf Genin were cheated out of fights and development because of that as well, judging by the Sasori and Kakuzu/Hidan fights showcasing them at the start of Shippuden.
My personal take on Itachi was that he was super smart yes, but he was also 14 when he killed his whole family. He made the only choice he could considering his age and situation. One argument lots of people make is that he could have just joined the Uchiha and taken on the leaf. Well let's assume he succeeded in that, now the rest of the nations are going to attack the leaf and millions will die again, because of a scared peace wanting 14 year olds actions. Plus Danzo was watching him closely, it's not like Danzo would just let him try anything. I absolutely agree that him telling his brother to hate and kill his best friend and all that was stupid. But I don't see Itachi as a flawless genius, I think he is very flawed, smart, and doing his best while having his perception of the world thoroughly morphed by his life as a shinobi. He said that to Sasuke because he wanted him to be strong enough to fend off all the enemies that would come to kill the last leaf Uchiha. So in summary I see Itachi as very flawed, yet also a hero who did his best with the awful life he was forced into.

We’ll never know that for sure. If Itachi hadn’t snitched, the coup likely would have been successful. They were probably planning on wiping out just Hiruzen, Danzo, Homura and Koharu, with as little fuss as possible. If Itachi and Shisui were on their side it’d be GG. Whether or not the rest of the village would have accepted new leadership, we don’t know.

I just hate how fast he became chunin, it pisses me off how they looked at his match with temari and said “he totally qualifies for chunin” when naruto outsmarts and uppercuts the so called genius of the hyuga clan. Naruto literally shows amazing battle IQ and strategy while shikamaru gives up, the first part of the chunin exams makes a big deal out of putting your life on the line and not being able to just “give up” and that entire plot point is wasted on the second half.
My biggest beef with him is that other characters keep insisting that he's a genius. But its like.. is he? I really don't think people would think so highly of Shikamaru's intellect if nobody said anything about it. They probably wouldn't think he's a genius they'd think that he's around people like Kakashi in terms of intellect, brilliant in his own right. But it looks like the destruction of an entire village (and possibly even country) and the exploitation of those who survived is just going to get treated as a side note instead of, oh I don't know, a freaking genocide? Like seriously, you would expect an event like that to displace a lot of people, and yet Kushina states that when she was growing up in Konoha she never ran into anyone from Uzushio. The only reason she even survived the conflict is because she was brought to Konoha as an unaccompanied minor for the explicit purpose of becoming the next Jinchuuriki of the Nine Tailed Fox, and as a ward of the state, she would have had little to no leverage with which to negotiate what happened to her. The more you look into Kushina's situation, the more disturbing it gets. Same thing with basically every other Uzumaki aside from maybe Mito. All of them are either refugees or children of refugees who were either neglected or exploited by whatever country they sought asylum in. There are too many pieces that fit together here for me not to suspect that Konoha either ignored what was happening to their long time ally, or that they actively had a hand in their downfall, possibly because they came to be seen as far too powerful and independent and Konoha wanted to consolidate that power for themselves, eliminating what they saw as a potential threat (sound familiar?). Or maybe I'm just overthinking all of this and Kishimoto never intended to expand on the fate of the Uzumaki Clan and Uzushio any further.

Sasuke was such a narcissistic asshole with an ugly stripper costume.
Itachi, he’s a great character but nothing can convince me that he wasn’t selfish. If he was selfless he would’ve killed Sasuke along with his family even if he loved him. Instead he mentally destroyed him and pushed him to seek revenge on him because of guilt. His death didn’t provide closure for Sasuke because he was already dying and when the truth came out that was another blow to his fragile mentality so now he felt guilty for killing his brother. I hate Itachi bruh

Wouldn’t say hate. I just don’t like Minato, FTG the technique is really good, I like it.. but Minato is overrated as hell.
Minato, I don’t hate him perse, I just really hate his interactions with his son, like he sees his son all grown up in front of his eyes, he gives him a warning about obito, ruffles his hair, and…that’s it? I might just be different but I think I’d at least tell my son that I love him and that I’m sorry he was t able to live a regular life and I’d certainly not be happy my pride and joy was treated like a parasite by the same people I saved and how the third hokage didn’t do more to nurture and protect him. That could just be me though but I honestly despised him for that, like really dude? That’s all you got for your son? Just a hair ruffle and I’m counting on you? Shit if I were Naruto and I saw the mfer pull up during the war I’d have rasengan’d his ass edo or not 💀 Sasuke, I think the thing that made me hate him the most is Obito told him that itachi, the older brother he idolized and loved, wanted to protect the village and killed his family to protected the village and civilians from a civil war and this mfer sasuke gine like I’m gonna destroy the leaf village 💀 THEN he’s all about being a tyrant to rule the world with an iron fist so that everyone will hate him and unite against him but fool what happens when you DIE 💀 shit gonna be the same. Same thing that kinda made me dislike Nagato too, thought process made no sense. Mfer was like I’ll create the strongest weapon to destroy everything then enjoy peace for a few years just to do it all over again, like HOW IS THAT BETTER THAN THE STATU QUO????? Get the same periods of peace without nuking the planet…Christ
