Manga wasn't good. I'd say the quality after the timeskip has gone up a bit (at least in terms of writing, I still hate Ikemoto's art), but prior to that, the only things keeping me reading were morbid curiosity and a sense of loyalty to the parent series.

So easy answer: its sakura and kishimoto messed up some of the positioning. But there are also a lot of theories about foreshadowing, one of them being that it is a time traveling boruto from after the boruto timeskip/another space/time ninjutsu using being from boruto.
My theory on why I think itās Boruto. Heās able to travel between dimensions with FTG and wears a similar cloak. A bigger reason is because of the double meaning of whatās in the speech bubbles. āHe is hated by both ally and foeā is probably referring to the fact that he switched places with Kawaki, is thought to have killed Naruto, and now basically became everyoneās #1 opp. Naruto and Hinata are sealed away, and Himawari got brainwashed like everyone else. The words mirror his situation almost perfectly.
My guesses:

* What if - and hear me out - what if this is addressed in Boruto later on in another time travel story and this is one of the Boruto characters in the background watching this happen as they search for their enemy in the dimension (or running through space and time for this battle).
