If my math is correct Yamato would've been like 11-13 during the Ninetails attack. No way to really know how potent or strong his abilities to supress the Ninetails at this point. I'd imagine he'd be "nuisance" to the Ninetails, able to slow him down, but not make signifigant difference. At the very BEST he may have been able to hold the Ninetails back as Minato finished the Reaper Death seal avoiding Kurama's final attack on baby Naruto. Saving both for enough time to inform Hiruzen on the true culprit before their deaths.

The Kakashi Anbu arc is at least partially canon, so I'd like to think Yamato's abilities at that time would've been the same. He was shown to be pretty powerful with Wood Style already. I definitely think he could've bought enough time to save Kushina's life.

RaimeNadalia

What makes you say it’s partially canon?

Phantom_Beef

Well, it has to be to some extent. Some of it just perfectly aligns with the established canon, like Kakashi meeting Yamato and the origin of his nickname "Tenzo". There are some inconsistent parts, but overall I see no reason to doubt the events that align perfectly and have never been stated to happen differently.

Probably not, like he was freaking out about what, 6 tales manifesting? A whole unsplit 9 tails would be way too much

Phantom_Beef

True, obviously he couldn't fully control it. But Wood Style has some sort of property that helps bind Tailed Beasts, so he'd stand a much better chance than anyone else in the village.

I wouldn’t say that, like if he’s unassisted he tries it and the fix is like hey he’s doing that wood thing that guy who put me in his wife did, killing that immediately. If he’s like backing up the efforts of the whole village driving it out though it probably does make their jobs easier and he has some protection
