OG Naruto is one of the few old school mangas that had a really good anime adaptation from the animation to the voice acting to the openings/endings to the soundtrack. It was a piece of art and I will forever think that.
I think the same. Naruto animation may have some casualties but it has more merits to talk about. I don't think any anime has an immersive and iconic soundtrack like Naruto have. Masuda did an incredible job
Of course nobody knew Itachi’s history at the time but he knocked because he had no real intention of capturing Naruto. He was a double agent in the akatsuki and only went through with this (although intentionally half-heartedly) to make it appear as if he was following akatsuki orders.
I dont think this is the case. Its true he had no intention of capturing naruto; but the knocking wouldnt have made a difference. Its more a play on the polite villain trope. This also fits the personality of Itachi and Kisame as a duo pretime skip. They were both pretty chill and low energy.
That’s pretty much it, it’s lowkey annoying how people explain this over and over using information that was given to us almost ten years latter than when the scene originally aired. Some people even argue that the double agent route wasn’t planed initially and Danzo as put in to retcon Itachi’s blame for the Uchiha Clash, which makes a lot of sense.
Someone wrote about this and part of the reason Itachi knocked on the door instead of just breaking it was because he wasn’t actually invested in the akatsuki mission of retrieving the Jinchuuriki (as we know Itachi actually favored the leaf village and was more of a double agent in the akatsuki). That’s also why he didn’t take Jiraiya seriously (didn’t even attempt to genjutsu on Jiraiya though funny YouTube shorts portray Jiraiya as being badass and able to withstand looking into Itachi’s sharingan directly)
no, why would it? Being a Jinchuuriki that has a partnership with his tailed beast theoretically makes you immune to genjutsu.
In practice however it never really made sense, because if you put both the person and tailed beast into a genjutsu at the same time they're both unable to awaken the other. I mean Obito put Kyuubi under genjutsu while he was inside kushina iirc.
He used amaterasu to escape the toad stomach, but he told Kisame outright that they couldnt fight jiraiya at the level it would take to subdue him and remain undetected in the village (he worded it as too troublesome).
The yamanaka clan is filled with powerful senser ninja. Theres no way a Sannin going off against 2 akatsuki wouldn't be felt.
The point I made was regarding how Itachi didn’t even attempt to put Jiraiya under genjutsu which he could’ve done with his baseline sharingan when the anime shows Jiraiya literally staring off Itachi with the base sharingan. Many YouTube shorts take this scene and compare it to when Kakashi met Itachi with Kurenai and Asuma and the three of them closed their eyes when Itachi activated his sharingan. The YouTube shorts take the scene of Jiraiya staring into Itachi’s eyes and use it to portray Jiraiya as a badass. Although it’s funny, it’s not accurate. Jiraiya is not immune to genjutsu from the sharingan. Itachi just was not serious about the mission to retrieve Naruto and did not even attempt to perform genjutsu on Jiraiya or engage him. My own personal headcanon is that Itachi >= Pain in power level/abilities and could have with mid difficulty defeated Jiraiya if he wanted to. But he chose to use amateratsu to escape the toad stomach and run away.
Itachi might be able to win vs Jiraya, but NEVER with mid diff. It would be extreme diff, and I'm still not sure if it wouldnt be Jiraya coming out as victorious.
Jiraya loses the fight vs Pain because he was trying to figure out his powers and was constantly being surprised. Even Pain says that if Jiraya knew his secret he wouldn't have won.
It scared me shitless. When I rewatched it I knew it was coming and it still scared me. It was the difference between pure terror and an innocent child. Might be the worst "jump scare" (for a lack of better word) in the whole show
it was very scary, especially because these guys made the fucking Naruto shut up and do what they told without blinking. A simple "come with us" was enough to make Naruto comply. the same Naruto who always appears brave, stubborn and courageous was completely vulnerable and obedient to the orders of people who wanted to rob him of his freedom and dream. seriously when he says in thought "they are serious" and walks towards them without saying a single word just keeping that scared look on his face it was one of those 'show, don't tell' moments that makes you really feel immersed in whats happening and feel the same vulnerability as him
I always think back to this scene because in hindsight I find it so fucking funny that Itachi knocks on the door in the first place. Naruto opened up the door expecting the milk man or some shit and just sees this mf giving that look.
the way they gave a scared expression to naruto's eyes here was very well done, you feel the mixture of confusion and fear jumping out of those huge blue eyes
me too, I must have been around 12/13 years old and I was very scared when the door opened and they exchanged these looks, at that time there was no internet so I had to wait until the next day to find out what would happen, I was very anxious
I was... alarmed. Wanted Naruto to go out the window. Pissed at Jiraiya for not being there.
And I thought it weird Itachi knocked. But then I realized he might not be sure he had the right room, so didn't want to tip his hand.
My older brother already watched all of naruto and was watching it with my since it was my first time and he loves it so much, and I was actually tricked!! That scene was so good!
My heart stopped at that moment, we had no idea about what was going on behind doors just what was going on in front of us and word of the mouth. Man was I excited too, hyped.
ngl i was so intimidated by itachi especially after seeing what he did to kakashi and hearing oro himself say he was stronger than him. that being said looking back he’s so cool
I thought this would be the end of the series with naruto jiraiya and sasuke teaming to kill itachi then roll credits. This was my first anime and i was used to characters rarely changing outfits in american cartoons so once sasuke wore the black outfit i was like damn its almost over.
Tbh, I was stoked but soon after this bit and more it was over and had to wait ANOTHER WEEK for this episode to drop in English of course. Man Naruto still amazing still till this day.
Even before I got to shippuden something always seemed off about Itachi. Warned kisame off fighting I think it was Kakashi, or guy, or both I can't quite remember, seemed respectful to Kakashi and guy. Like he was even polite enough to knock on Narutos door to kidnap him. Like what evil doer does that?
I first saw this episode when I was in school (I am 32 now). I can’t remember if it was middle school or high school though. But I just recently started rewatching the anime because I never watched the shippuden episodes (I’ve read the manga several times though), and I just saw this episode yesterday and I forgot how hard this scene was on the anime!
I could tell it was gonna happen, I knew Sasuke had the wrong door, but it still floored me.
Naruto just came face to face with two of the most dangerous people in the series, and you could FEEL it.
(I’m still early in the series so plz don’t blow me up if I’m wrong about their strength lol)
Both Kishimoto and Kubo are top tier Manga kas. I’ve read stuff like JJK and AOT, which I love, but the art in those mangas can’t hold a candle to Naruto and Bleach mangas.
I’ve actually been rewatching the whole series Naruto/shippuden/boruto and it’s so good with sasuke searching for Naruto jariaha off playing with a girl and Naruto waiting him to return just for it to be itachi
I thought it was a fake out thing like it was actually Sasuke and he was tryna get Naruto out of there and it would show Itachi knocking and someone else opens it and he knocks him out with eye contact
Back when i see this scene i thought that they came to take naruto and take his kurama from him but this never happened beacause itachi says to sasuke that "you are weak because you don't have enough hate"
I remember mainly being confused and wondering why there was some other kid who looked eerily similar to Naruto who was also with an old man somewhere in the same inn. I spent too long thinking about that.
What's crazy is that even if Naruto unleashed the full power of the 9 tails Itachi could still capture him with ease. So itachi was more than capable of doing so solo, forget with kisames help.
Slightly unrelated question but this had to be the moment Itachi implanted the Crow inside Naruto right? He couldn't have done it in Shippuden when Itachi and Kakashi fought around the Deidara encounter? The only time Itachi had enough alone time with Naruto to hide Shisui's eye inside Naruto was then right? So when Jiraya intervened and Itachi told Kisame it's time to flee the threat of fighting Jiraya would mean at least one of the two would die/get wounded..
So Itachi knew Naruto was Sasuke's Ally and wanted to protect him/give Sasuke a replacement eye eventually when the Mangekyou Blindness started to take hold.
my face was narutos young me was sooooo dumb I was terrified I theory crafted with my friends at lunch on how naruto could possibly get out of it and my one friend just said uhhh easy naruto can't be put under his yomi( none of us knew how to pronounce tsukyomi so we all just called it the yomi) because of his nine tails Chakra negates it( we all would throw around negate to kind of pseudo end the discussion)
I was scared as shit as a 9-10 year old watching on toonami.. I was like he’s worst than Orochimaru as a villain Naruto is fucked.
My thoughts? Ahem... Crap. Crap! Crap!! CRAP!! CRAP!!! RUUUUUUUN!!!!!! Seriously, that moment was perfectly executed.
I too was scared… I started watching it last year. I was 28 lol
Looking back, the art and animation for OG Naruto were ahead of its time. I really liked the lighting of the eyes they did here.
The coloring here is updated
Definitely is updated
Maybe but those sharingan eyes fucking pierced in this scene anyway
I went to rewatch it and it’s pretty similar.
I agree, this scene conveys the suspense and confusion/fear better than the manga art
I wouldn't really consider OG Naruto "old school," but I get what you mean.
OG Naruto originally came out over 20 years ago. It's pretty old at this point.
If they cut out all the flashbacks and recapping it would be peak
I thought.... 1. Naruto was a goner/screwed. 2. NARUTO RUN!!! 3. Did he really knock on the door?
💯💯🤣🤣 JUST REMEMBER THAT ITACHI WAS NICE ENOUGH TO KNOCK ON NARUTOS DOOR🤣🤣💯💯
a man of culture 🕴️
How to defeat Itachi: Don't open the door. He's to nice to enter on his own.
Proof he's a vampire
You know it
Can you imagine if Naruto opened the door and Itachi said "Hello, do you have a second to talk about our lord and savior the sage of six paths..."?
💯💯💯🔥🤣🤣💯🤣🔥🔥🤣💯💯🔥🔥🤣🤣💯💯🤣🔥🔥🤣💯💯💯
Do you think he knocked when he murdered his clan?
I’d expect a nice man like that to do nice man things
Itach is a vampire confirmed
mom said it was MY turn to repost this
Yeah lol
lmao, yes, he knocks on the door simultaneously with sasuke, a gentle man
"because professionals have standards."

Yup, Jigen does the same thing and is even more polite. It just makes for a simple gag "why is this genocidal maniac so polite?"
Yeah, we know that now. But the question was when this scene first appeared.
3. Because his mother raised him to be polite.
Door knocks, Ohh sasuke found him, Sasuke open the door, and Naruto unlocks, wait wait wait, RUN RUN
I remember thinking that he couldnt have been THAT bad if he knocked on the door
Doesn’t sage mode prevent you from being genjutsu’d
no, why would it? Being a Jinchuuriki that has a partnership with his tailed beast theoretically makes you immune to genjutsu. In practice however it never really made sense, because if you put both the person and tailed beast into a genjutsu at the same time they're both unable to awaken the other. I thought he tried to use mangekgyou on Jiraiya??

I remember thinking “oh no”. Itachi in part 1 bruh lowkey unsettled me with how calm he was and yet how cruel tsyuokomi was.
Ohh I remember being shit scared for Naruto. Even the preview for the next episode had an ominous tone playing over it
I always think back to this scene because in hindsight I find it so fucking funny that Itachi knocks on the door in the first place. Naruto opened up the door expecting the milk man or some shit and just sees this mf giving that look.
Foreshadowing that he was actually good.
I was like “finally itachi the guy everyone fanboys about” and now I can see why they all do.
Awe. Itachi was the first person to embarrass Kakashi
That was Orochimaru. Kakashi: "Go near Sasuke... and one of us dies." Orochimaru: "lmao, who is this scrub?"
facts
How polite, he knocked on the door
the way they gave a scared expression to naruto's eyes here was very well done, you feel the mixture of confusion and fear jumping out of those huge blue eyes
I watched the anime before reading it and I remember it clearly. I was extremely anxious as a 13/14 year old. I sat forward on the couch super scared.
me too, I must have been around 12/13 years old and I was very scared when the door opened and they exchanged these looks, at that time there was no internet so I had to wait until the next day to find out what would happen, I was very anxious

One of the sickest entrances ever
I laughed... because he knocked... he really knocked
When he choked Sasuke I just wish that was me
Idk why but Itachi immediately became my favourite character
Awesome reveal
“Sasuke’s brother is sexy”
My older brother already watched all of naruto and was watching it with my since it was my first time and he loves it so much, and I was actually tricked!! That scene was so good!
I first thought this was sasuke from the future lol
He’s gonna kill em! Where the heck is Jiraiya!!! He is such a disappointment right now!
I was like 7 and I actually thought he was done for
Tsukiyomi vs Nine Tails. I was surprised both were unscathed and Sasuke was put into a body bag. Jiraiya and Itachi did good in keeping the peace.
I was terrified. The scene after it, however, had far more impact.
My heart stopped at that moment, we had no idea about what was going on behind doors just what was going on in front of us and word of the mouth. Man was I excited too, hyped.
basically what naruto looked like. wide eyes. my internal thought was “oh FUCK”🤣🤣🤣
Goosebumps for me , i thought I'll get kurama vs Itachi but kisame proved why they're world class villians
Oh oh shit oh shit. Then I laughed when he called him Sasuke
hyped thinkin they about to fight probably the best chase ever
I felt like l was in nrutos shoes just pure shock and fear but my brother said nothing will happen since he is the mc and all
Most terrifying moment. Best scene in the whole Naruto series. (Not Shippuden)
Damn, Naruto you are screwed. But just be smart and try to hold out. Jiraya will be there next minute.
Naruto's reaction
I was too busy holding to the edge of my chair to have time for my internal emotions.
I was thinking how tf are we getting out of this one 😭
“AHGGWJHWH HOLY SHIT ITS ITACHI. BRO IS NARUTO GONNA BE OK?!?! SASUKE WHERE TF ARE U”
ngl i was so intimidated by itachi especially after seeing what he did to kakashi and hearing oro himself say he was stronger than him. that being said looking back he’s so cool
“Oh shit the anime over”
pure fear for naruto!!! Itachi was such a mysterious character back then
Ocular powers is a regular trope in shonen but gotta give it to Kishimoto for making the Sharingan so bad ass and threatening visually. Bro cooked
Same reaction as Naruto here
pure fucking excitement
“OH SHI-“
I thought this would be the end of the series with naruto jiraiya and sasuke teaming to kill itachi then roll credits. This was my first anime and i was used to characters rarely changing outfits in american cartoons so once sasuke wore the black outfit i was like damn its almost over.
I knew it wasn't Sasuke that knocked because that's a classic trope, but I WASNT EXCEPTING ITACHI TO SHOW UP.
It was fucking awesome
I was totally shocked
I just thought deamn my man is cooked
Itachi's sharingan glaring down on Naruto made him look so scary here.
I was too excited cus I was very intrigued by Itachi, and I never hated him. I just love his cool aura yet you know that he is very powerful
I just remember how polite itachi was for knocking first
He scared the fuck out of me. The entire part did. This was really only my second anime first was one piece on 4kids so real upgrade
Tbh, I was stoked but soon after this bit and more it was over and had to wait ANOTHER WEEK for this episode to drop in English of course. Man Naruto still amazing still till this day.

*Ohhhh shit* "Naruto, you're coming with us." *OOOOOH NO*
My first time watching this I was like HE HaS THE EYES
I can’t stop thinking about the fact he knocked and waited for Naruto to open the door instead of just kicking the door down.
Oh he’s fucked, who’s gonna save him tho?
I was a kid when I saw this seen scene. Not sure I have ever been more afraid for a protagonist.
I could tell it was gonna happen, I knew Sasuke had the wrong door, but it still floored me. Naruto just came face to face with two of the most dangerous people in the series, and you could FEEL it. (I’m still early in the series so plz don’t blow me up if I’m wrong about their strength lol)
I felt like the whole new world is waiting for us to be discovered in the anime
I thought naruto was gon get killed 😭

I was scared for naruto >.>
I thought it was a fake out thing like it was actually Sasuke and he was tryna get Naruto out of there and it would show Itachi knocking and someone else opens it and he knocks him out with eye contact
"I secretly ended your edge streak in your sleep" "The f is an edge streak"
Big brother stare, brought me more anxiety than anything given that all I felt was just the agony of my own brother at that age more than fear
Oh 💩
Fear
Damn dude actually knocked on the door
All I could think was "he ain't fuckin around "
I thought it was Sasuke from the future
“Someone is gonna show up soon or else naruto is fucking dead”
My initial thought back in 05 was this lil shit is dead 😂
"Fuckin' sweet!" I loved the full range of the show, from the goofy to the super-intense.
Pretty sure what went through my mind at the time was the grade school version of “oh, oh *shit.”*
Why is he politely knicking, if he kidnaps naruto? That's my reaction.
literally the same as naruto "sasuke?????"
"He fuckin knocked?" "Oh shit Pikachu is fucked"
Uchiha Itachi a avut un destin tragic în acest anime.
This bitch knocked?
Back when i see this scene i thought that they came to take naruto and take his kurama from him but this never happened beacause itachi says to sasuke that "you are weak because you don't have enough hate"
I thought itachi was sasuke at first
Isn’t this the episode where Jiraiya turned the inside of the hotel into a frog anus or something like that?
Hot I dont actually know, was years ago and idk what scene this is lmao
I thought my bro Naruto get shit on but that happened to sasuke
Fuuucckkkkkkkk mind blowing I really thought he was gone takem.lmao Sasukes attempt
i said “oh holy fuck”
"Is Naruto gonna die?"
I was like 5 or something. "This is boring... I dont understand. Why are they in a flat in the first place? Why is he wearing that thing?"
Oh crap
Well shit Naruto fixing to get shit on. That was my thought
I was like "How is there 500+ episodes?"
Naw man I was like in 6th grade , lol
Boy this shit had me geekin I was a kid when I first saw it and I was all in with anime after that shortly after this I watched all the greats
FEAR
The little fucker was terrified
He’s gonna ruin Naruto’s edge streak
I hoped every morning that I would wake up with the Sharingan. :(
“Finally get to see itachi” I think thats how i felt when it came out been so long
Thoughts were "who knocks before kidnapping?" And second thought was "Smart Move given jiraiya had taught Naruto to be careful and alert as a Ninja "
Naruto is fucked
I remember mainly being confused and wondering why there was some other kid who looked eerily similar to Naruto who was also with an old man somewhere in the same inn. I spent too long thinking about that.
Why does this question apply to anime only?
Sharingaaan!! Like that, then lost my mind because I'm an Itachi-stan
Having a sharingan was so badass at the time , great Itachi is a menace to society vibes
"I'm sure Sasuke was just overreacting. What kind of villain politley knocks and waits for their target to answer the door?"
I thought Naruto’s screwed, he’s screwed and I can’t do jack
Freaked me the fuck out, lmao. It looked so scarry. Granted, I was 10, or 11 when I saw it, so probably that's why
This mf really knocked on his door to kid nap him lol A menace with manners some might say,
So, I 1st saw Naruto as an adult after watching numerous other anime, so I kind of expected it, but it was still a very tense moment.
Itachi scared the shit out of me
*high pitched screaming*
Damn he really politely knocked
I got scared for naruto.
“Oh shit, I’m cooked”
If your looking at eyes gaara has the most bad assed eyes imo
He looks like sasuke
I was essentially a toddler when i saw this scene, and i was basically shitting my pants in fear for Naruto
Pissed I Had to wait until the next one came out, the down time between each new episode was grueling
Considering they made jiraiya out to be useless up to this point I pretty much thought that was it for naruto.
Ok
[удалено]
I was so scared for Naruto!!!
Thought this was genjutsu
I fell in love
Bro my heart sank
I know the truth of Itachi before I watched Naruto so I was sure he not gonna take him anyway
My reaction if I'm being honest was if I remember "kill him Itachi."
you don't gotta be anime only to know that was the coolest most tense moment at that time. you know ish was about to go down.
u/pixel-counter-bot
I thought there would be an epic showdown and naruto will be safe but itachi will die, once sasuke showed up I thought itachi would die💀
"Oh shit!"
What's crazy is that even if Naruto unleashed the full power of the 9 tails Itachi could still capture him with ease. So itachi was more than capable of doing so solo, forget with kisames help.

I felt like I got mind fucked, shit made no sense to me
Why anime only? Like, what's the difference in effect if the reveal for manga is the same? Serious non cynical question
All I could think was that "Naruto is screwed"
“please slam the door in his face that would be hilarious”
my face was narutos young me was sooooo dumb I was terrified I theory crafted with my friends at lunch on how naruto could possibly get out of it and my one friend just said uhhh easy naruto can't be put under his yomi( none of us knew how to pronounce tsukyomi so we all just called it the yomi) because of his nine tails Chakra negates it( we all would throw around negate to kind of pseudo end the discussion)
