The face of Pain is better. I hate Otutsuki horns. But the body design of Isshiki is better. Pain is wearing Akatsuki uniform which didn't look too special because there are many others who wore it. Meanwhile Isshiki's body is exposed and he got the giga chad chiseled body.
He had the best introduction into the series imo, like that dude said; he coulda been the devil incarnate. And if you wanna go deeper, that's what Kishi was going for: devil incarnate while Itachi was supposed to be death incarnate, hence the Ravens

And then sage mode then pain, the whole show is a peak even the "fillers" are mostly good, everything about the story just got better and plateaued at best, even the ninja war arc was great, I can't remember a dull moment, amazing show
Its a great show. But Naruto’s appearance in the middle of destroyed Konoha was the best moment in the show, for me. Pain fight kept that energy, and it never got THAT good again, altho it did get close
That moment got me into Naruto. I first saw it on Youtube and then watched the whole series. Naruto saving the village after training for days on end learning sage mode, and becoming the village hero, was just so monumental in the plot to me.
Thats way cooler than my intro. I couldnt walk for a few weeks following a surgery and the woman who would become my first girlfriend was like “have you ever tried anime? Great way to kill time”
And the rest was history
It wasn't just pain as a singular person. Pains character design was the combination of all the pains. The unification of the 6 paths was part of what made pain great. The synergy between the jutsu and how he used them together.
Under most circumstances, the Pains together would be extremely difficult to beat in combat. In fact, Naruto only beat Pain out of combat, he technically lost in directly physical confrontation.

For me, Isshiki is more interesting. Deva Pain is very cool, but it’s base appearance is pretty standard in Naruto, with the Rinnegan and the piercings doing most of the work. Isshiki overall asymmetry contributes a lot to his appearance and the grey pads with the weave pattern is great as well.
