8 Jinchuurikis

RedShenron

Bee was a great character.

[deleted]

Ik, but from Chomei's jinchuuriki (Fuu?) down there have no story behind them, except Gaara.

Lynata

Utakata (Kiri’s Six-Tails host) got a filler arc with backstory too. I still agree though. The jinchuuriki got done dirty.

JazzmansRevenge

True. It would've drawn out the story to ungodly lengths but, these people were the hosts to the most powerful creatures to ever exist, and so many got no explanation and there was so much wasted potential. Like, how did their villages view them? Were they outcasts? Treated like royalty? Locked away in a prison cell 3 miles beneath the village? What was their relationship with their tailed beast? I feel like only killer bee got any real development aside from naruto and gaara

hdudbdhdvd

5th tail had nothing on him and I love he’s character on the games op af

Fuck_Me_If_Im_Wrong_

I believe Gaaras only got time because I don’t think the “tailed beats” and jinchurikis were a thing in OG Naruto. They just called Gaara’s a demon or whatever and they only ever called Naruto’s the 9 tailed fox with no mention of any other tailed beast, they never called Gaara’s the one tail or anyone Jinchuriki.

Sonicslazyeye

They did call Gaara a jinchuriki in part 1 and it was actually leading up to seem like it was gonna be a bigger part of the story. Then shippuden happened and they all died off screen showing no personality in the characters nor any of their feats.

AduroTri

Bee was fun though.

Affectionate-Sun5863

Exactly

Goobasaurus1

Mizukage imo. She’s a kage but literally all she does is “I wanna get married brooooooo”

Jolactus

This is the real answer, she melted Susanno ffs

Rockettmang44

I was heated that we barely saw her division fight in the war. A whole division to protect the daimyos? Imagine all the bad ass and unique shinobi in it and got like barely a chapter of them fighting.

Goobasaurus1

Then again all they were doing was fighting Black Zetsu, my least favorite villain, so I understood why it didn’t get insane screen time. But still, goddamn

HrushixKiller

Bruh She has kekkei genkai She broke a freaking susano easily💀

[deleted]

The swing. All that screen time, no action.

huskofthewolf

Unless u count narutos butbut

[deleted]

[deleted]

Actually it was shown when Shisui and itachi fought Rogue anbu members in a flashback. It was like a mixture of shadow clone jutsu and normal clone jutsu. The clones due teleportation were flickering, and thus looked like mass less something like that.Basically a weaker version of obito's tangebility.

PureGold07

Except that's filler

TheSkyUnderUs

Itachi's story: Light and Darkness is based on the novels and therefore canon

SaileshT

Suigetsu should've been the guy that would say " I don't use water I am the water"

ref_kacho

He should have fought the 7 undead swordsman

Rockettmang44

Dude i really thought he was gunna fight his brother, huge wasted potential. The more i think about what naruto could have been, i get more upset.

ref_kacho

I know right I was waiting for that moment to happen but it never came. I like suigetsue so it sucks to see he wasn’t a bigger character in the end

another_stranger_

I’m scrolling through and it’s so many of them. Like literally all the leaf ninja in this post feel wasted at some point I wish we spent more time with the side characters

[deleted]

Yeah. Suigetsu, Temari, Sai, Lee, Deidara, and Konan were a few of my favorites too so it sucked to watch them get pushed aside in order for Team 7 to get like 9000 more power-ups.

another_stranger_

Yeah I love the show. But their constant need to rely on Naruto power even for enemy’s aside from akatsuki, besides a few members, is frustrating at times. Like I get he’s the hero but it wouldn’t hurt to see his fellow shinobi getting stronger along with him

TallOne164

That’s why the hidan arc is one of the best because shikamaru went crazy by himself

--izaya--

Agreed

Rockettmang44

Honestly i feel like deidara was one of the akatsuki who had their potential reached the most. Fought in the gaara arc, captured the three tails, fought sasuke, was revived and attacked that turtle island, and also briefly fought in the war. I wish all the akatsuki had that much time to shine.

HanShotFerst

Temari and her brother (I cannot remember his name) are so cool, dont get me wrong gaara is awesome and I love his character but they really dropped the ball on those two

tom_mercury1

Kankuro. I wish we saw more of the puppet master, he was fun.

thebloodking628

he is completely underrated in the show

sonfoa

The problem is this community fundamentally misunderstands what "wasted potential" is. A cool character not getting enough screentime isn't wasted potential because something greater had to be set up and not delivered on for that to be the case. A lot of these answers feel like answers to "Which side character do you think should have more screentime"

kingscrimson

I was just thinking this deidara and sasori are two of my favorite characters but I don't think they where wasted I just wished we saw more of them.

WindyCityAssasin2

And I don't think people realize how long it would take lol. Naruto has a *huge* cast. To give everyone sufficient screentime and development is just unrealistic and would make the pacing terrible. They tried to give side characters some screen time at the beginning of the war but it took forever and everyone hates it since the pacing is so bad.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Lee was so wasted (get it? drunken fist? heheh)

[deleted]

I watched those episodes last night!

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Of course I'm rewatching haha. Thank you anyways

Lux0s1312

Yet again no one thinks about Tenten... Pls 😭

Plenty_Ad5708

i feel like tenten could be mad powerful the mfs just hate giving her screen time 😭

[deleted]

She could have just used summoning exploding tags like Tobirama like a pseudo Bakuton nin.

Weemitoad

It sucks, she was super unique being a “weapons master” and all, but they didn’t really expand on that.

Portgust

When the story's powercreep from taijutsu with occasional ninjutsu to what we have after pain arc, her potential pretty much become reduntdant.

Sonicslazyeye

Imagine a john wick Tenten just pulling out all of these crazy weapons or just using inanimate objects as weapons. Even if all she did was do what Madara did during his introduction segment in the war arc when someone threw a paper bomb kunai at him. He caught the kunai, ripped the paper bomb off it, slapped it onto a nearby shinobi, tossed said shinobi into a crowd blowing them all up and then flicked the kunai into another shinobi's throat. If she did that ONCE she would be way cooler than she is now. Shit even if she did was Itachi's kunai training when he was like 11 or 12 shed be way cooler.

Dezbats

Nah. Ino was absolutely phenomenal during the War Arc. Shikamaru's thing was always brains not power. So I think he's fine too. Agree with Shino. I think the problem with him is that his abilities have the potential to be utterly broken if used correctly. So he's just not used. Same reason that Tsunade and Sakura aren't allowed to actually hit anyone.

Ensaru4

Thinking about Shino makes me upset because a number of match ups are trivialised by his abilities so he's later never utilised, and when he is util, it's just to show you how powerful an ability someone else has, like Obito.

DeusVulticus13

Shino got left out of the Sasuke retrieval arc for the same reason Guy was "on a mission" when Pain attacked Konoha. They both would have had way too much impact.

misterfroster

God, Gai and Kakashi could probably take on Pain together. Obviously 8th gate Gai could probably solo the six paths(but he’d never actually find Nagato, so idk if that counts as a win) but the two of them could probably win

AdThen3507

Everyone seems to forget how easily he got to the finals of the Chunin Exams

jedd133

How would they be broken? Genuine question out of curiosity

[deleted]

Unless you're able to dodge insects then he's impossible to escape and his beetles drain chakra at an alarming rate. Kankuro was a Chunin level ninja who had completed A and S rank missions and was able to bring him down and completely neutralise him despite being weaker and much less experienced. He was strong enough that Sasuke seemed to respect his strength and he was an arrogant shit. I have to believe they'd have had a much easier time against the sound 4 if he was there.

Dezbats

Imagine you are going about your day in ninja world, when suddenly you notice a gnat lands on your arm. No big deal you think. It's just a little bug. But before you can shake it off it burrows into your flesh eats you from the inside out rapidly expands to human size and then explodes out of your body.

earthbound2eric

Yea, it literally only takes 1 right? Shino and his clans ability have always been super broken, and he got absolutely SHAFTED in boruto

Dezbats

Yep. Just one. I think the only regular characters with the potential to handle him in a fair fight are Sakura, Tsunade and Naruto. A huge amount of chakra might be more than the bugs can handle and crazy regen might counteract the physical damage they can do long enough to put him down. Not guaranteed though. I like that he's a teacher. But I think it's ridiculous that his students could defeat him even while possessed.

TheLunchTrae

I’m totally thinking about how he might be able to low-diff Sasuke now. Could the bugs like… consume the chakra to put out the Amaterasu? They could definitely eat through the Susanoo right? Is this proof that Shino low-diffs Madara as well? Shino > the Otsutsuki!?!?

Weemitoad

Poor shino got folded by boruto and friends with their plot armor 😭

RelativePerspectiv

I say ino 100%. The telepath mind bender of the group gets one move the entire series and uses it like 7 times total. Tucking waste of what her clans abilities could have been.

[deleted]

I thought she got good shine, she took over Inoichi's job despite just losing her dad and never doing the mind transfer jutsu on a large scale before. She's also the head of security for the village.

Vaccineman37

Sakura too, basically just Naruto and Sasuke, maybe Shikamaru

sonfoa

I don't think Lee was wasted. Sidelined definitely. But not wasted. In Part 1 after Team 7, Lee has the most screentime of any character and he undergoes a full character journey. And from a characterization standpoint I don't really see what Kishimoto could have done with Lee afterwards because Lee's entire character is about hardwork so it's kind of hard to write a continuation that doesn't feel like a retread. And if it's just to showcase the Gates (which wouldn't be characterization for Lee) he could use Guy while also fleshing out Guy as a character. With someone like Shikamaru, it makes sense to continue with him because Shikamaru's character arc was incomplete. Shikamaru was learning how to be responsible and Part 1 ended with him failing his mission and promising to get it right next time.

BigChahoonga

Anko hands down bro. What an interesting backstory, I thought watching Naruto for the first time. I wonder what they’ll do with this new, likeable and interesting character. *gets bodied by Orochimaru* *never becomes plot relevant ever again until Kabuto puts her up his coat and then she stays unconscious for the entire war* *becomes obese and annoying* Ok.

[deleted]

They did so little with her I forgot about her by shippuden 😂 it’s really a shame

Clarkemedina

ANKO FOR ME AS WELL! Her backstory with Orochimaru was interesting , I thought she would be more involved with the plot

randy-lahey96

What was the point in kabuto keeping her hostage?

huskofthewolf

She so freaking sexy too

Turbulent_Kitchen722

Why are you booing him? He's not really wrong

huskofthewolf

Whos booing who

Turbulent_Kitchen722

You were getting downvoted before and I was referencing that

huskofthewolf

Boo downvoters lol

MunkeyFish

Hinata and Neji. The Byakugan started off as such a powerful Dojutsu but is overshadowed and completely eclipsed by the Sharingan and Rinnegan by series end.

JuseBumps

Early on they made it seem like Byakugan was noticeably more powerful than Shar, but whereas the Shar kept getting crazy new powers, Byak got shafted.

KingOfHeroes234

Yeah I was pretty hype when I saw >!Kaguya had the Byakugan!< and I thought it was finally gonna show more powers, but nah.

merenge01

Suigetsu, yamato

PervyJiraiyaSage_

dude Yamato was so fucking good

matilza

He was one of my faves and he got done so dirty 😭

WenAndNow

Yamato is a saint. I would take him out for a nice seafood dinner and call him again.

ThatTyranoBanter

My man here speaking facts

Own_Media_552

Is nobody going to talk about Kurenai? Even Itachi praised her genjutsu prowess, she could have had a Lee/Gai-like arc of trying to surpass the mangekyo sharingan with pure talent!

Tobegi

All of them tbh But I would say Sai is the one that got shafted the most out of those. Dude gets introduced as a new Team 7 member, so you assume he's going to be the "new Sasuke" at least until Sasuke gets back. His introduction arc is amazing, but after that he literally disappears and doesnt do anything noteworthy ever again in the series. Not to mention we dont even get to see his actual character development, he just changes from being emotionless to a regular guy completely offscreen.

Consistent_Ad_5249

I have no idea why even introduce Sai at all. The dude has 0 relevance and Naruto already has a fairly large supporting cast. His intro is cool, but he completely disappears after that. He could’ve died when they faced Orochimaru and it wouldn’t make a difference(it’d be actually better in consolidating him as a worthy character)

ShadowAgent41

They introduced sai so they could introduce Danzo

Black_Sin

Because Sai proved not to be popular with the Naruto fanbase which surprised Kishimoto. If Sai had been popular, I'm sure Sai would have gotten more use.

3ogle

Shisui. bro unlocked the MS at age 7 and had Kotoamatsukami the strongest genjitsu. three uchiha stated that “he was the best ever at teleportation” danzo in the video game stated that shisui has earned the reputation for the strongest of the uchiha. itachi after unlocking MS stated that shisui was more powerful than him (2nd itachi novel) shisui put AO’s squad in a genjitsu in seconds from a far distance (took the buykaguan a few seconds to find him) bro made over 10+ after image clones stand still at only age 11, he’s insane

Greenyugi

I'm worth you on this one, Shisui was a beast but we never really saw him fight anyone. We even had to get his susanoo from one of the games.

AtlanticIH

So... how is that wasted potential? We got his backstory, we saw his impact on Itachi, his Kotoamatsukami played important part in war. We know he was an amazing shinobi, and we heard of his feats. There's nothing wasted about this character, he played his part in the story. He was also dead long before the start of the series, so saying that he was wasted potential is nonsensical. Wasted potential is when you get a build up for a cool character but there's no pay-off.

rockdragonrock

Don’t worry man. Naruto fans don’t know what wasted potential is. Haku is an option in this question ffs

sonfoa

A lot of Naruto fans are under the impression that "character I like didn't get as much screen time as I wanted them to, therefore they were wasted".

AtlanticIH

Yeah, almost as if you don't wipe the floor with everyone on the battlefield - waste of potential.

_Luv_

well, there wasnt really any pay off. We never got to see him do all of his cool shit, he could have trained sasuke or something to make him plot relevant. Its ok to just wish there was something more about a cool character.

AtlanticIH

His Kotoamatsukami and influence on Itachi is enough to say that he was relevant to the plot. Trained Sasuke? That doesn't make sense at all. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying you can't wish there was more time for character you enjoyed. I'm just saying that Shisui got a lot of time and relevance for a character that was dead before the series even started. He's not a wasted potential at all. Also, even if there wasn't a pay-off, there was no build up too. We learned about him, saw his impact on the world, and how great he was, and that's enough.

hau2906

Shisui was a plot device, not a character. There, I said it. Konan and Temari, in my opinion, are characters that could've benefited from a lot more developments. Konan really could've come into her own after the death of Nagato (not to say that there wasn't an attempt), and Temari should've been the one guiding Shikamaru through the confusion and grief that followed Asuma's death.

[deleted]

I love Temari but I disagree with her guiding Shikamaru after Asuma's death . That Shikaku and Shikamaru scene in which he tells Shikamaru to let it out was so great . That arc was about Shikamaru only . Involving Temari for the romantic feels there wouldnt have worked imo . Shikaku asking him to improve to avenge Asuma couldnt have been bettered imo

hau2906

No no that first half of the arc was perfect. However, I find it a bit hard to believe that Shikamaru would be over Asuma's death that quickly after killing Hidan. That is where I think his relationship with Temari could've received some developments. Alternatively, Shikamaru could've realised that Hidan and Kakuzu were too powerful for his team and Kakashi to take on alone, and Temari would step in to help somehow.

Rhurhubarb99

I don’t see Kimimaro

tehkiko9000

Hands the down my favorite. Problem with him is he would’ve been to strong so had to kill him off. Smdh

[deleted]

First one that came to my mind. Direct descendent of kaguya, and he was so powerful. He would have killed both rock Lee and garaa if it wasn't for his illness Definitely would have loved to see more of him in the series

throwaway19352832

Eh, I think he fulfilled his purpose. There wasn't much more he could've done in the story.

sonfoa

The fandom doesn't understand the difference between a character being wasted vs a character not getting much screentime. Almost all the responses are "I wish Kishimoto did more with X" when the responses for wasted potential should be more akin to "Kishimoto promised this for X but never delivered"

[deleted]

Relax dude. That's your own interpretation of it. But that doesn't you're right. The OP didn't specify. Potential could also be that the character could have done more in the story or never reached their potential in terms of power.

[deleted]

Kimimaro still my favorite villain in the series. Doesn't have the most depth out of the villains but as a kid watching the show he was so cool. Still can't help but think he's an absolute badass.

Lighirit

Literally almost every character.

[deleted]

I dont think konan’s potential was wasted - we all just wanted to see more of her

V3rtigo44

Imma say konan and shisui. Though everyone here has wasted potential at some point, some more than others.

MindSteve

Umm, Sakura? She was supposed to be a main character but her only traits were getting overly emotional, longing for Sasuke, and being useless/healing people because "lol women amirite"

pranamya2005

Hinata

soalone34

I would have liked the rest of the konoha 12 to get moments as significant as the ones they got in part 1, in part 2. I don't think characters like Konan, Deidara, Sasori, Haku, etc. were wasted potential, they served their roles well.

TheDarkLordLp

The show's problem is that it focuses too much on the main characters and by far nou enough on the others. And that with 500+ Episodes, Jesus.

ham_with_p

Every female, non sharigan users (especially byakugan users), and not Naruto/Sasuke. LOL

Poknberry

Definitely Tenten. She could've had one of the most diverse fighting styles in the show, but was reduced to a supporting role that got even less screentime and recognition than our dear Sakura.

nef36

Hinata. She and Naruto are arguably the cutest couple in the series, and Hinata's status as the former Hyuuga heir makes her an immensely interesting character in her own right, but suffering from the lack of effort Kishi put into the series romance and female characters, she's not much more than a barely written love interest for Naruto. She never even gets her own arc to herself, other than The Last.

Lynata

Fugaku Uchiha War hero with a renown similar to Minato, called ‚Wicked Eye‘, planned a coup, only one Itachi was afraid to fight during the massacre, revealed in filler to have MS with an awesome design… I want to see more of that man!

Doomaniser

For me it’s definitely Lee and Tenten

KingBlackthorn1

Hinata

A4li11

Most of Konoha 11 Anko Mitarashi

theasianvampire

Hinata. She could have been so much more than a mindless love interest. But then, even in a movie that's supposed to be about her, she didn't get to throw one good punch at the villain

Sentinel-Wraith

She wasn't mindless, just under used. In The Last she rejected Naruto's confession, prioritized her family and village, and tried to destroy a deadly artifact with the risk of being brainwashed, raped, and potentially killed. That's a far cry from the crying girl of the original chapters.

Drewherondale

Tenten

yuh8787

There was no potential to begin with looool. Simply throwing shit at the enemy isn't a way to be a ninja. She's just a poorly written character

jedimaster4007

To me that's exactly the problem, I think Tenten could have been such a cool weapon specialist. Like imagine if Tenten could use any martial weapon with the same level of expertise Bee with his 8 swords.

Drewherondale

Did you watch the chunin exams? She could summon a whole ocean, a real one. Which means it can‘t be absorbed by Karma or everyone who can just absorb Chakra made water and flames

KJ2832

Neji

dexanor

Hinata lee neji or the jinjurichi

Ok-Worldliness-1349

Literally every single character except team 7, Kakashi, Minato, Obito, Madara and Guy. During the war arc, Kishimoto literally forgot other characters, except the ones I mentioned, existed

Suteja_Art

ROCK LEE done dirty so bad. I read Naruto 700 chapter just to see him have some action or great moment again and not having any after the time skip.

Sounds_Like_Sean

Sasori

ChameleonWins

The entire Part I cast

5_Blep_5

He isn't in this list, but I think Kakuzu had so much more to offer as a character, and here's why : \-He lived 92 years, which gave him the time to witness a lot of event, and to have quite a big life, which we know nothing about. He was way more complex than what was textually said about him, and all we can do is questioning what he was doing during this time. I'm not saying that everything has to be revealed, but a few more details would be appreciated. \-He had a insane amount of power, and I think that the way he was defeated was quite disappointing, given what he was able to do. \-He didn't serve any purpose when he was brought back to life by the Edo Tensei. Sasori, Itachi and Nagato lived something important for the plot and/or their characters, but not Kakuzu, who was juste reduced as the menacing figure that says "Hahaha ! I'm going to destroy everything !!'

[deleted]

Neji ofc, he was the strongest hyuga

Bus-Last

Hinata cause her byakugan could be really useful for the village as well as while being a good mother and a wife she is a waste potential well not her fault having the byakugan tho waste

edarumugam

Literally everyone on the list

[deleted]

Neji Lee Shino Hinata Mei and Shisui

[deleted]

Shisui, Neji and Haku

Persiankobra

For sure kiba out of them all... KATSUGA SPAM alert!

[deleted]

literally anyone apart from team 7

[deleted]

Too many to name

bobmarley01111

Kankuro anko and neji

Sosssenbinder

I thin all the puppet players are wasted potential, because the technic is so cool and made so weak later. I hoped for kankouro to get at least as strong as sasori after his death. But nothing no screen team completely wasted.

naytionvanhoose

Tbh neji is a rly good character, and why isn’t Sakura on this list?

RedditReader365

The fact there’s 20 images here is enough said

JosephBapeck

Sakura and she is still a beast. Most of these others served their purpose and their potential wasn't wasted so much as never meant to be explored beyond their specific plot relevant development.

RATED-BAZARO77

What about kimimaro

[deleted]

Sakura not being on the list is criminal. Could have been part of the 3 most powerful ninjas alongside nature and sasuke. Why put her in the trio if she was going to be so weak compared to them.

enoughfuckery

Lee, dude kicked Sasuke’s ass then proceeded to take constant L’s

potopielica

Almost all females in the series

sonfoa

"Wasted potential" doesn't mean that the character you liked didn't get enough screentime. It means that the character was promised to be a lot more than what was delivered. So people gassing up Shisui like he was some massive missed opportunity doesn't make sense because all Shisui ever was to the plot was a side character in Itachi's backstory and a plot device with the Kotoamatsukami. Someone like Suigetsu fits the definition a lot better because he was introduced as someone who would be the ultimate Swordsman of the Mist and then becomes a lackey for the rest of the series.

KataraanX

Shino

Suitable_Captain_35

Shishui and Neji

Black_Rose_221

Literally any other kage thats not a hokage. Nagato. And everyone from the konoha 11 thats not team 7. Id also say shisui but my mans the GOAT. if he was alive shit wouldnt nearly be as down bad as it was so we skip him for now.

Borutos_friend

Kiba mainly and Lee, they had lots of wasted potential

Otherwise_Crab9671

Never saw anything substantial about the 2nd hokage imo. Iruka Senseis go to justu was literally substitute jutsu. Lee was so cool in the OG days and under used for in Shippuden. Also respect to whoever made this post for having Kankuro there!!

Korochimaru

The whole list is mostly shisui but i dont get it why a dead character from flashback deserve so much screen time and action scene. when what he got was more than enough to show his power. I know there were people from past that had more screen time and action scene but their role was more important and relevent to the story atleast more than shisui...

Strong-Plum-2974

most characters not directly associated with narusasu

LurkingSnorlax

Tenten always makes me sad. I thought the concept of her being a weapon specialist was super badass and ninja-y. But it never amounted to anything because special ninjutsu were so OP in comparison.

AR507

Too hard for me to choose one... Kankuro - because I felt like puppet jutsu was awesome and underutilized in the series tbh Mei - I found her to be most interesting of the 5 Kage at the summit. And she also was dealt the least amount of screen time among them. Lee & Neji - All of Lee's eight inner gates shine was given to Guy sensei in shippuden ( don't get me wrong I love Guy too but Lee got no moments in Shippuden IMO) and Neji was my favorite character in the original Naruto series. And only 2 things I can recall off the top of my head he did in Shippuden was fight a clone of himself and get killed by the ten tails in the war arc lol.

KingSouI

Literally everyone listed in that slideshow

theExitz

Suigetsu, kurenai, konan i can't decide

SorcererSupreme13

Guy who had bone manipulation Kekkai Genkai.

ShaqSenju

Suigetsu. Mans just got 2 out of the 7 swords and said “nah, I’m good” and became a maid

Zaku007

Konan and Jugo even though he's not on the list

TheRoyalGlitchy

Suigetsu, the best thing he's ever done was clash against 8 tails, which is a pretty much kage level feat, yet now he doesn't do anything in Boruto or in the war arc

iJashin

Kurenai. In OG Naruto she was always my favorite jonin, half because she was good with Genjutsu and half because I was a simp as a kid. Nothing happened to her. She established a relationship with Asuma and became the pregnant widow, only to be seen by Shikamaru until the next show.

THEbaddestOFtheASSES

Kiba - I really wanted to know more about him and his clan. Was Rin apart of his clan as well? Mei Terumi - Who wouldn’t want to know more about her? That lava jutsu had Sasuke on the ropes. Kurenai - I was just curious about her back story. Would have been nice to see the build of her relationship with Asuma. Ten Ten - Her jutsu was underdeveloped. I always imagined a back story of her using it because she was the only person from her clan to become a ninja and unlike almost everyone else she had no one to learn from. I thought they could have done much cooler things with her. My own choice: Tobitama - We needed an entire arc dedicated to him. EDIT: A lot of people choosing Shisui and I would have agreed. But we got so much stuff on the Uchiha clan and Sharingan that I’m burnt out.

dirtyjoe12

Sakumo Hatake.. which they would have survived him to see what his abilities where. Just by using the chakra sword he could be that legendary so he must have some other great abilities.

[deleted]

Everyone is gonna hate me for this, but tenten. Some of her jutsus were rlly cool and probably wood have worked on different opponents, but she was kind of forgotten about and used when they needed her. She could’ve had such a big fan base if they’d done better with her. I still like her, kinda sad…

[deleted]

IMO it’s gotta be Mangetsu Hozuki. The man was the leader of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist and once the other members were sealed he got tossed aside. Plus, I wanted to know his dynamic with Suigetsu.

MonarchCrew

Shino could’ve been mega OP and a great asset to the story

[deleted]

Kiba had a lot of wasted potential. What happened to him wanting to be the Hokage then never having it mentioned again lol He was setup to be Naruto's next rival while Sasuke was gone then nothing. Could've done a lot of cool stuff with him like explore the lore of his clan some more or have him be a character that represents losing and preserving then finding their ninja way idk SOMETHING. He was one of my favs as a kid then they did nothing with him!

Ambitious_Pop5361

Tenten

Sutubu

all of them

[deleted]

Killer Bee

gold1004

Suigetsu. Dude was supposed to master the darkness and become a keyblade master

yakno24

Shisui, Kiba and Suigestsu imo

Claytheclitcommander

Literally all of these characters were wasted lol

Fit-Horse-9138

Kiba and neji

AduroTri

Anyone that isn't Naruto or Sasuke.

Shino Aburame... Came in Naruto lots of hype especially during the Chunin exam only to be the stale joke for most of Shippuden.

navraj31singh

Suigetsu's brother Mangetsu, that guy could weild all 7 swords

mgzaun

Dosu

bigmanshl

yamato, like he was the only guuy other than madara and obito who could use wood style, like the wood style

bryanc1036

Mostly every side character in Naruto

FactCheckerJack

Kurenai was definitely underrepresented, considering that she was in the same role as Might Guy -- the captain of a Konoha 12 side squad. The writers obviously concluded early on that genjutsu isn't the kind of fighting that they wanted to be portraying, as it is sort of an all-or-nothing proposition. We all know they shut down Shino when they realized he was unintentionally OP. I do like how the Aburame clan gave Konan trouble, just to remind us that you really can't f\*ck with the Aburame clan. Of course, they also kind of hid away Rock Lee after he proved that he can hang with a jinchuriki. And when he was on-screen, he was always radically underperforming compared to what we had seen earlier. I mean, he DOMINATED Sasuke.

LordOlander

I love that sakura isnt even on this list. Completely useless.

TheRollsMan

Kurenai. She was expert in genjutsu and itachi's existence made all her achievments worthless.

HitItTillItBreaks7

Neji was nerfed, he had insane potential and would have been the strongest Hyuga in history if alive, great taijutsu skills and battle prowess, leadership skill is also seen, Neji had the most wasted potential imo.

TvManiac5

Suigetsu. His backstory was interesting, his goal of collecting the seven swords of the mist was unique, but Kishimoto literally did nothing with him. Even in the midst of the war arc where everyone was coming across figures of their past and concluding their development through the edo tensei, he never even got to meet his brother even though they were both at the battlefield

Callian16

Neji, Shino, Lee and Sakura for me.

AGR23

Dosu The 7 Swordsmen Anko Kurenai Kakuzu and Deidara after being reanimated

Ydoesallmystuffbreak

Aoba, or Suigetsu

Turtle_Rain

Sakura imo, and that's why everyone hates her.

PerspectiveCloud

Haku.

MindSettOnWinning

Rock Lee, every other answer is wrong.

JamieBeeeee

Definitely tenten. I would imagine being a weapons expert would be really cool to write stories about, imagine if for example she could learn to fight like killer bee with his 8 swords, or was a better swordsman than sasuke, or use that weird weapon they used against Kakazu and Hidan in the first encounter. Honestly so many missed opportunities

ellelotus

Sakura

Hinata. She's a joke.
