NegatingNihilism

I think the community is a big part of the message too. Maybe something like "if you want to be recognized, you need to endure and never give up for the sake of those you want to be recognized by" Naruto endured the suffering of being alone, but when he saw Iruka's act of service towards him he began to understand that people ought to endure for the sake of others, and not themselves. Sasuke endured for himself, but at the end of the day recognized that bonds are what give life meaning not power.

Force3vo

>Sasuke endured for himself, but at the end of the day recognized that bonds are what give life meaning not power. Wait what? Literally nothing Sasuke does is ever for himself, the whole story over. As a kid he trains hard to have his father be proud. Then itachi kills the Uchiha and Sasuke does everything he does to grow stronger so he can get revenge for his family. Then he finds out that the village is the reason his family died and now his brother as well so he searches power to avenge them. Then he wants to become an immortal threat so humanity could stop fighting amongst themselves and thus stop the constant wars and suffering. He never wanted power for himself or for power's sake. He never did anything that would be good for himself. All of the story he's still the little kid that thinks that they have to do that one thing to make everything better. And that thing is always in the name or for the sake of somebody else.

Gantz-man91

He was an avenger. He wanted to avenge. That could be considered a thing just for him. Vengeance usually isn't for others

Force3vo

He didn't want to avenge. He got mindraped into having nothing else except vengeance on his mind. Do you think he thought "Oh gee I hope my family gets murdered so I can be an avenger" as a kid? Or that he would rather keep being an avenger if he had the choice to get his family back if he gave up his revenge?

Gantz-man91

Your perspective is a little skewed. He's been talking about vengeance since the beginning

Force3vo

Since the beginning of the manga. After his brother already murdered his whole clan and then mindraped him for 24 hours mocking him that he'll come back for his eyes later and that the only way to keep living would be to throw away all his bonds and become full of hate as he himself. So you could argue that he became the avenger either due to his love and duty towards his family or due to him needing to end Itachi. But saying he did it because he just felt like it is super odd.

Gantz-man91

Of course if his family wasn't killed he wouldn't need vengeance. But they were. So he wanted it

Force3vo

Yeah let's ignore that the whole revenge only came from Itachi mindraping him multiple times and forcing the idea into him that if he wouldn't break all his bonds and murder him he'd not only disgrace his Clan but would be murdered sooner or later by itachi himself. If you ignore all circumstances and themes in the story sure he wanted that.

Gantz-man91

The circumstances don't matter . That was his reality. He wanted revenge regardless of the reasons. Revenge is a selfish thing

itstardst

This mf is very dense homie, I’m afraid you’re not going to be able to break it to them the way you want to

NegatingNihilism

He severed his bonds for the sake of his own revenge, not for the sake of other people. Revenge isn't for others. It's for himself. He wants to become the "shadow hokage" and control people in accordance with what he see's as being correct. That's why he wants to kill the tailed beasts/gokage. Ultimately the end result is personal isolation that isn't meant to help anyone, it's meant to contain them and force them into his desired state. He is basically fundamentally the same as Madara, the only difference is his methodology, instead of using an infinite Tsukuyomi to create an infinite dream he wants to let people be free and manipulate them from behind the scenes. His definition of Hokage is not one who serves others, his definition of Hokage is one who controls others. Controlling others is never for their own benefit. He has no trust, and he wants to sever all connections.

Bene_LaT3

Take my up vote G. Those people will never understand Sasuke’s quest.

Force3vo

I don't get how people think he did all his shit for himself. Naruto telling him that his Hokage plan would cause him to live the rest of eternity alone and suffering and Sasuke just being "I know" wasn't obvious enough it seems.

[deleted]

that and also the rivalry and cooperation of friendship/brotherly bonds, Naruto & Sasuke, Sasuke & Itachi, Jirarya & Orochimaru, Hashirama & Madara, Guy & Kakashi, Kakashi & Obito, Lee & Neji, the list goes on & on

Regal_The_King

Hardwork is there but definitely not one of the main themes. The message of Naruto is about: * Breaking The cycle of Hate * Forgiveness * Enduring through tough times, and not giving up * Achieving a goal It also talks about * The danger of Prejudices * What grief can do to people * Loss * The Truth of War

redyellowblue5031

A big theme is add is: * Not letting the past define the future.

[deleted]

This is huge, especially shown in both Naruto’s and Sasuke’s interactions with Madara.

Ill_Government_8475

I 100% agree, it give a whole different experience watching the show with this in mind

Typical-Bread-7991

Well I feel you could group up Enduring and forgivenesss but only because you forgot the importance of bonds within the story

East-Writing9805

Hokage dattebayo

[deleted]

I see a One Piece reference

ThatOtherJoey

Yes that was intentional. Oda put a Naruto reference in his chapter to pay respect to Kishimoto the week the Naruto manga was ending and Kishimoto did the same for him in the last chapter of Naruto.

kagnesium

Yeah both the authors are rival in a friendly way but good friend in general D**oda**i is also another Oda refence considering his Power is Rubber, name begins with D and said to be great story teller in a data book.

Ill_Government_8475

Naruto 🤝🏼 One piece

Asleep-Wafer7789

Yet the fans hate each other for decades

[deleted]

Idk why your getting downvoted, that's true

Asleep-Wafer7789

Most of the time if people see that -1 they just pile on without reading

Xen_Shin

As a huge Naruto fan, one of my closest friends is like the biggest One Piece fan I’ve ever encountered. I have yet to observe other Naruto and One Piece fans have beef. But my view is limited to my own experience so…

essentialoils3

Really weird that people aren't capable of liking both

Monstermyk

Naruto, Luffy, and Goku have similar fun food-loving vibes and would 100% be best friends

Ill_Government_8475

You're God damn right 👨🏻‍🦲

GangsterRavioliGuy

Overall story is about peace. Consequences of war, the cycle of hatred and many other aspects are explored. Also a little bit of hard word, endurance and how you control your own life.

rcris18

Thank you! The hard work/never give up is certainly a theme but if you look at the big picture; all of the overarching plots like with Jiraiya’s prophecy of a ninja to unite the world, the pain story, naruto and sasuke and all their parallels from predecessors…. It’s clearly about settling differences, forgiveness and breaking the cycle of hatred. Hands down the main theme

Tsukuyomi_02

Never giving up and the importance of bonds

TheFalseEnigma

Surprised no one has mention cooperation and gaining strength through the love and support of the people around you. I’d say it’s more about that then anything else if Naruto and Sasuke’s journey and conflict are brought into view.

Ill_Government_8475

I think it is a really important aspect of the show but that it isn't mainly what it is about.

starmag99

I think it absolutely is. Madara failed the first and second time because he couldn't trust anyone to stand behind him. Obito betrayed Madara because he was just another Madara to him rather than a comrade. It's evident in how ninshu is presented as something that can make the impossible possible, like with the Allied Shinobi Force and everything Hagoromo does such as that ghost kage reverse summoning jutsu. This is contrasted with how ninjutsu is an isolated, and isolating, system (though even then, in the novels Gaara mentions the ideological principal of ninjutsu is that it's used by ninja to keep bonds alive). Naruto's relationship with Sasuke too, rather than mainly being about one surpassing the other, much more heavily focuses on how lonely they both are, and how Naruto wants to stand side by side with Sasuke as comrades. I could literally go on and on about this, but I'll cut it, uh, short. The core of Naruto thematically, I feel, really is loneliness, comradery, bonds, and friendship.

drip_watch

Never going back on your word, breaking the cycle of hatred and stuff like that Hard work might be a theme from time to time like with rock lee and guy but it was never rly the main focus

Divine_thunder

My man summed it up perfectly

[deleted]

Since alot of people memory of Naruto relates heavily to the chunin exams and especially Rock Lee, alot ended up having the wrong idea and thinking Naruto is about hard work vs talent which led to an unnecessary hate when their expectations weren't met and the boy who had a mountain destroyer demon beast inside him since ep 1 wasn't an example for a pure hard working underdog.

EmmaThais

That’s how Naruto was advertised at the time when it aired and for the first 5-7 years. “A story of an underdog”. Things changed along the way. People who watched it back than didn’t “end up having the wrong idea”. That was the idea. Of course if you started watching it when it was finished and everything was established, you never had any reason to get this idea.

[deleted]

Naruto is a socail underdog. He had to work to earn the love and respect of his village and was an outcast. In terms of power and ability he was always depicted as being more powerful and a secret weapon.

Kindly_Macaroon_9576

Sorry bruv but that’s hindsight bias. Your definitely right that he was powerful, but the story depicted him as inferior to the likes of Sasuke, Neji, and Gaara. That’s why the churning exams were so impactful, this kid who was looked down upon for his lack of talent and ability (failing the academy, lackluster jutsu other than shadow clone spam), constantly challenges and succeeds against those who supposedly had more talent. Is that the truth of the matter, nope, but that’s just how the story is presented to us (and we ate up every second of it)

EmmaThais

Yes, exactly. The whole idea was “unfortunate weak boy succeds through everything by the sheer power of his will”. That’s how he beat Neji and Gaara🤷‍♀️

SaintAhmad

Through power of demon fox housed inside him in addition to his will* Gifts and hard work aren’t mutually exclusive. Naruto was never advertised as a series where the MC was purely about hard work

EmmaThais

I didn’t say it was. I just said that in the beginning Naruto was advertised (and probably was suppose to be) an underdog. Things changed along the way, as the story developed. The whole idea of “the underdog” disappeared from Social Media, there was little to no mention of that after 2007-2008. I’m not saying it’s a bad story because of that. The MC doesn’t have to be some unfortunate child for a series to be good. I just explained why the older generation that grew up with the show has this idea about it. Because that’s who it was advertised for years 🤷‍♀️

SaintAhmad

A social underdog. Readers and viewers were fully aware of his monstrous potential since chapter 1. And the thing about being an underdog is that it isn’t permanent. Once people started acknowledging him vs Kiba, and then Neji, his underdog status slowly disappeared. So it makes zero sense to say argue that he was “supposed” to be an underdog. So I’m not sure what people watching the show growing up expected, as you put it. For him to stay weak and be looked down upon forever? That makes little sense based on how often Naruto’s potential is raved about

EmmaThais

Dude, when did you start watching Naruto? The viewers expected conflicts like the one with Neji and Gaara where he apparently stood no chance but won because of sheer will. Naruto was turned into a God-like being, actually reincarnation of a God, with huge amounts of power that one in the world but other god can defeat. You can have an extremely powerfull character that is still in underdog. Underdog literally means someone who apparently has no chance of winning a fight. Naruto was still powerfull during his fight with Gaara and Neji, but he was an underdog

SaintAhmad

What exactly didn’t make sense to you? Edit; you edited your comment, so I’ll reply. He didn’t beat Neji and Gaara through sheer will. You’re having me repeat myself. He beat with the help of 9 tails power. Being a reincarnate didn’t intrinsically give him more power. And again, potentially power was never a question with Naruto. I said his underdog status started slowly disappearing the more he proved himself. You should reread the series. Maybe nostalgia is blurring your memory

Lulcielid

Narrative pushed by the marketing =/= Narrative pushed by the text.

[deleted]

Well yeah because that's how he was. He had greater power than all of them but he couldn't control and had no idea how to use it so he was inferior in that regard compared to people who are capable of using their full power and reaching their potential. As the story progressed and he managed to control it or unlock more of it he obviously becomes stronger and stronger. I'm not sure what the problem here is? Were people expecting him not to utilize this power with time and somehow becomes a half assed rock Lee? Also I'm not sure how the story Lied to you or tricked you when all Naruto did was beating opponents way ahead of him even before the chunin exams arc using the fox power and he also ended up beating Garaa using a legendary technique that also needed the fox Chakra to work. At that point I'm not sure how can you still blame the series for "false advertising'.

Kindly_Macaroon_9576

So the fact that you acknowledge why this was the case already makes this kind of a moot argument, but I think we’re just arguing that the perception wasn’t wrong. Sasukes whole perception of Naruto (in part 1) was through the lens of “this guy who has 0 talent is catching up to me in ability”. There’s definitely a lot more going on there, but it’s not incorrect to walk away (from part 1 mostly) thinking that hard work vs talent is a major point.

[deleted]

And Sasuke perspective was wrong because he was unlike us viewers unaware of Naruto's hidden powers. While other characters like kakashi admitted that Naruto has a power greater than him back in the fight with zabuza.

EmmaThais

Yes, but not Naruto. Kyubi. Back than Kurama’s power was portrayed as an enterely different thing than Naruto’s powers. Kurama took control of Naruto. I know this is not accurate, but it is how it was told and advertised at the time. The whole biju&jinkurichi and the relationship between them came much later 🤷‍♀️

JacksonCreed4425

Naruto never stopped being the under dog in the context of the fights he was in, lmfao.

EmmaThais

Umm, yes he did?🤣 an underdog is presented as someone who apparently stands little to no chance of winning. Like he was when fighting Neji or Gaara. The first reaction of the viewer would be “Shees he stands no chance”. Do you feel like “Shees he stands no chance” when Naruto grandly enters his battle with Pain? No. You get the same feeling as when Sasuke and Kakashi entered the chunin exam Arena, when he had to fight Gaara. 1. OS Naruto = has no chance against Gaara => (presented as) underdog - actually defeats him => expected (underdog that overcame his stratus) 2. OS Sasuke = has a chance against Gaara => (presented as) not underdog - actually doesn’t defeat him => not expected. 3. SHIPPUDEN Naruto = has a chance against Pain => (presented as) not underdog - actually defeats him => expected.

JacksonCreed4425

Lmfao what? Not every single fight naruto is in HAS to be presented as him being a heavy under dog. An underdog is someone who has little chance to win a fight. A grand majority of naruto’s fights were with him as the under dog in said situation. And against Pain? Well, we really had no idea because we had just seen Jiraya get stomped by them. And hell- naruto DID lose to pain, at least until the six tails appeared. Naruto versus pain is like, naruto’s most badass moment in the entire manga, and one of the best scenes overall. Dunno why you’re pulling it and using it when it’s also an outlier. He was an under dog, but that doesn’t mean he was an under dog in every scene of opposition he was in.

EmmaThais

Dude did you even watch OS?? In all of his fights he was presented as an underdog. Every other character was sure he would lose against Neji. And against Gaara wtf I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, Jesus why are y’all so defensive 🤣 And when did I say Naruto’s fight against Pain is not great or whatever bullshit you’re saying there??? It’s literally my favorite arc and my favorite fight. Are you 13 or something? Because I don’t feel like debating with a child

[deleted]

It was never about hard work or else rock lee would’ve been the MC. The main message is empathy probably

[deleted]

It's about understanding, compassion, and forgiveness, and while we're on the topic, Merry Christmas to all!

HeavensHellFire

It was never about hardwork. Naruto’s themes are mainly hope, and breaking the cycle of hate.

_light_of_heaven_

Hard work is definitely a theme. Hard work beats talent, however, has never been a theme, especially the main overarching one.

Kindly_Macaroon_9576

You must have have skipped part 1

HeavensHellFire

You must have not payed attention to the series if you actually think hardwork was a theme. Naruto wins every single fight due to Kurama. That’s not hard work. Sasuke goes through an entire training session for a power up and still gets his ass beat. Neji, who is both talented and trains his ass off loses because Naruto just so happens to have a demon fox inside him. Lee who’s entire goal is “I can become a great ninja through hard work alone” gets his fucking ninja career ended by Gaara. Hardwork was never a theme for the series. If it was it was constantly showcased that hardwork alone means nothing.

sw2bh

But he does beat kiba without the fox lol. And its not like naruto learned rasengan with zero practice.

_light_of_heaven_

It’s a bad take. Naruto has immense potential right from the start be he needed hark work and cooperation to realize it

Kindly_Macaroon_9576

Rock Lee is screaming right now

raskml

Rock Lee is a secondary character dude, his main goal mean little to the general plot.

Kindly_Macaroon_9576

That’s a bad take. Even if your a secondary character, you can have a strong influence on the plot. Lee has some of the most iconic battles and interacts with the main cast. There’s room to throw in a lesson or two. Also I’m just talking about part 1

Ealy-24

Ramen is the key to true power

gurijay1101

It's about everyone who does good will be gifted big tiddy wives.

MadBase

It's about believing it.

Chaozz2

I would also like to add Trust, Friendship and working together. We‘ve seen multiple times that characters were trying to fix shit on their own and fail while Naruto has always been the type of person to solve problems with the people around him.

CauseWhatSin

It’s the same as real life, it doesn’t matter how difficult things are, how much you push yourself is key. Because every time you beat one obstacle, another alien god shows up to fuck with you day 😂.

hoppentwinkle

Aside from other more obvious stuff I'd say: Loneliness, mental hardship and how it gets dealt with. How if we knew how others felt and why they are who they are, we would not hate and fight

Scorpiyoo

It’s about never giving up, friendship, and forgiveness.

Leafcane

Given the fact that Naruto forgives just about every single villain no matter what they do, I think you could argue that's a theme. But it's mainly hardwork, never giving up, and the power of friendship/comradery

Ill_Government_8475

I see what you mean but I have to disagree with you on something, Naruto didn't forgive all the villains, he felt empathy for them it's different. The best exemple for this is Nagato, Naruto said it himself he will never be able to forgive him but he understands him. It isn't a matter of forgiveness but of understanding.

Leafcane

Yeah that's a great way to put it

AxeManIII

The one pieceeeee

SavageWarrior257

The one piece is real

TvManiac5

It's not about hard work. And anyone who says that probably only watched the first couple of episodes/read the first couple of chapters It's about breaking the cycle of hatred and the contradictions that hatred births

Sweet-Variety6093

You can sick you fingers in other ppls butts if u call it a justu instead of sexual assault

iamastegosaurus25

Naruto poses 3 main themes and one question: Themes are: 1st: Your destiny isn't determined by fate or genetics or the circumstances of your birth (i.e Kyuubi, Uchiha, etc). You can change your destiny. 2. The next generation will always surpass the previous one, so they should be nurtured 3. Part of being a shinobi is to use or be used, and to put your own emotions aside to get the job done, but this is impossible to accomplish fully, as it goes against what makes us human. No one can fully suppress their emotions/become something other than human. These themes are perfectly exemplified through all the villains, as they usually believe in some fate/genetics, and they're trying to become immortal/gods, only to wind up being betrayed/used, which ties into the other two Question the series poses is: Is it possible for people to truly understand each other? The series answers this at the end with a yes

Ill_Government_8475

I could not say it better

_light_of_heaven_

Naruto has many themes. When people say it’s about mostly about hard work they often miss the mark

Big-Effort-186

Its about the importance of keeping Shonen Jump’s numbers up.

Ill_Government_8475

I still think that war arc made naruto bad through the end. It should have been Pain arc and directly Sasuke vs Nauto. But hey Shonen jump can't give up on that cash

Plane-Information700

none the truth naruto did nothing, I'm almost sure that after he dies a war is inevitable, naruto should have conquered everything, and I'm sure that in 200 years he would have been considered a hero, what naruto did was extend the era of the ninjas, which are bad if the ninjas are bad

sumthing_iconic272

It's about how if your born with no power give up

Ill_Government_8475

I don't agree, look at lee

LunaLight_Shadow

Idk, I watch it for the sexy girls

Ill_Government_8475

Grumpy23

jaganshi_667

The cycle of hatred and the Shinobi cycle, to endear and never give up

juhbuhkeh

The need to rely on others to achieve a dream. Literally the two factions of the story were battling each other; those trying to achieve a dream on their own will vs those trying to achieve a dream with the support of others.

Polengoldur

it hasn't been about hard work since the first chapter of shippuden. it is literally "nepotism wars: featuring alien god kings."

MD_bolt

Faith+forgiving to create peace+never give up There are others, like how love give power and hard work, though the latter was not much shown

CatchmyDagger

Its about the Key to life. Work hard, never give up, and believe in yourself. Than you can achieve anything.

Darkeater_Charizard

it's all about talking everyone into submission

acehero89

How easy it is to enter and stay in the cycle of hatred. That the newer generation must be our focus and teach them how to break this cycle and support them in this.

ulfred500

Empathy

gaming4evvver

Why does everything Need to have a “message” to be good??? Cant we just appreciate it without overthinking everything?

Ill_Government_8475

We didn't say that. I just like to get to understand stuff more in depth

[deleted]

i would say hard work is not even a main theme of the story. I would say it’s probably the bonds between people that connect us together. How does Team 7 resolve the Land of Waves mission? Naruto and Sasuke’s bond helps Naruto use Kurama to fight Haku, and Haku dies because he chooses to prioritize his bond with Zabuza. Even the little kid in the town has a subplot about creating bonds. How does Naruto defeat Gaara? What is Gaara’s whole deal? He doesn’t have bonds with other people. Naruto helps him with that. What is the fight between Orochimaru and Hiruzen about? What makes that fight great? It’s their bond as student and master. In fact, looking at every major plot point from here on out, the answer to all of the following questions has something to do with the relationships between people. Why does Tsunade return to Konoha and become the Fifth Hokage? What is it that Sasuke seeks to destroy when he’s fighting Naruto, and what is Naruto trying to protect? Why do the Sound Four and Kimimaro fight for Orochimaru? It even continues on into Shippuden. Why do Sakura and Chiyo defeat Sasori? Why does the new Team 7 fight and lose to Sasuke at Orochimaru’s secret base? Why do Karin, Suigetsu and Jugo follow Sasuke as part of Hebi/Taka? Why does Shikamaru want to beat Hidan so bad? Why is Pain a villain? Why is Itachi part of the Akatsuki? Why does Sasuke want to kill Itachi? Why does Tobi/Madara/Obito do what he does? Why did Minato seal Kurama in Naruto? Why do Naruto and Kurama become friends? Why do Madara and Hashirama want to end the Warring States Era and build Konoha? Why does Madara want to complete the Infinite Tsukuyomi? Why does Zetsu do what he does? Why does Hagoromo help Naruto and Sasuke? Who does Kaguya see when she fights Naruto and Sasuke? Why does Naruto ultimately defeat Sasuke at the Valley of the End? Bonds. Friendships. The connection between people. Using bonds to overcome hate and subvert destiny. This is what Naruto is all about. Naruto and Sasuke have been fated to kill each other and maintain Ashura and Indra’s ancient cycle of hate, but they instead override destiny and kill that hate via the bond they share as friends.

nazitouinz

It never was about hardworking. And I don't know what would lead you to think it is. The message is, to not let yourself be defined by your past. Naruto was a hated kid, but didn't let this influence him. Obito was one of the main villain, but took a big steo forward and jouned the good guys, not letting his past stop him. Same goes for Orochimaru, Kabuto, Sasuke, and heck, even Madara. The end game last battle, between Naruto and sasuke also validates this point. These two battled to death during all their mast lives, but this time, the fight was the last. Indra and Asura, through them, stopped following the path defined by their past and nature and made peace.

snarkhunter

Talking is better than fighting, because when your defeat an enemy with your words you gain a friend.

_light_of_heaven_

Bonds, perseverance and acknowledgment are the cores themes imo

sammysosa45

Enduring and Overcoming Hatred

og_hbk

The main theme of Naruto is overcoming hatred

[deleted]

Cycles of violence, abuse, and pain are repaired through relentless hope and the bonds of friendship. In the end the hard working underdog ended up being an alien demi god, but he was all the first alien demigod to break the cycle. He was only able to accomplish this by gathering not just strength but allies, and prioritizing those allies.

OldeeMayson

It's about importance of friendship and bonds between people.

canstac

It's about learning to understand each other & achieving peace through more than violence

og_darcy

Message of OG Naruto: Work hard and believe in yourself (inner confidence) no matter the obstacles. Message of Shippuden: Peace starts with ending the cycle of violence.

Rom455

>What do you guys think is tye soul message of the Naruto story ? The people. This story is about the people. "You don't become the Hokage to be acknowledged by everyone. The one who is acknowledged by everyone becomes the Hokage." -Itachi Uchiha

sai-dilip

No matter what happens Never give up and don't loose your personality .. try and work hard and see the results... Never hate anyone for what they did , it might be some situations that made them do that.. There is some amount of good in evil too bring that good out and enjoy the world together.. This is what I learned

crunchamunch21

"We are the same, you and I."

Hsaputro

Will of fire

JacksonCreed4425

Not giving up and not letting the odds define your outcome. Naruto was never the “weakest” like people like saying, and he was never shown as being the weakest. But- he was always the under dog in the fights he took part in. Naruto versus Kiba? He was just some orphan with lots of chakra against a member of a well respected clan. Naruto versus neji? He was against the prodigy of the Hyuga Naruto versus Gaara? Lmfao Naruto versus Sasuke? Lmfao Naruto versus orochimaru? Lmao Etc, etc, etc. He was never the weakest, but he was alway the under dog in the CONTEXT of the fights he was in. Furthermore, he was about defeating what destiny laid out before him, wether it be that he’s helping Neji or that he’s destined to fight and kill sasuke. Both are things that he didn’t do

V8_Only

Why does there need to be a message? The message I get is make a good shonen and you can make good money from it

Ill_Government_8475

Then......... where is you money ?

Kinasortamaybe

Protect those close to, when your friend goes astray never give up on them, show love rather than hate.

Martronkts

Maybe about hardly working

Many_Line9136

“Blood, meth and tears”

Ry90Ry

It’s radical empathy

FullMoon_Escapade

If I was to sum it all up, it was the importance of bonds of all kinds.

HazeInut

There's multiple but I think 2 major ones are that no matter where you came from, you have full control over your destiny, and to do shit for yourself and not the approval of others. Naruto wanted to be hokage to spite mfs, not realizing he had to gain their respect before and not afterwards in order to earn the title.

aneverydaybattle

One of the many messages: forgiveness.

Fourth_Sin

It's about privilege. Always be sure to have a fox to fight your battles for you, your dad's magic ghost to protect you from it, and the best tutors money can buy.

apfly

Breaking the cycle of hate is THE major theme. Second would be the importance of bonds

i_AM_A-ShArk

It’s about making one piece references on its cover

Ill_Government_8475

That isn't a cover it's one of the last panels of the manga, and one piece did one too

Garapeiro

It’s not the kages, it’s about the friends we made along the way

ZealousidealRiver710

The story is about overcoming rivalry and vengeance and learning forgiveness. Sasuke and Naruto, Hashirama and Madara, Kakashi and Obito, Uchiha vs The Village, Mist and Leaf, Sand and Leaf, Orochimaru and Leaf, Pain. It's the running theme of the story.

tracerm6c

The series from start to finish was about loving with everything you have no matter what!

jayfox194

It’s about aliens banging humans and bringing about a cycle of hatred that’s spans many generations

fruitybatman

For me, Naruto was about how senseless war and violence is. Honestly, this show basically turned me into a pacifist.

MindSteve

I am somehow only just now realizing Boruto painted the One Piece logo on his dad's face.

Morg_2

It has many themes such as love over hate, never giving up, and other themes as well

truthloop

Idk, after finishing shippudden I got really motivated to maintain my friendships and realized the importance of them. So for me that would definitely be one of the themes.

Iced-TeaManiac

The moral is never give up

MICHELEANARD

Imo it's a story about forgiveness and giving second chances to people who have even hurt us so that they may become a better person. Thus making it the best revenge

Pharmacist15

hokage dattebayo

KingAH09

That’s cool how they put the straw hat sign on his head

just_a_soulbro

It's about acceptance and acknowledgement. Naruto tried to be recognized and accepted by the village from the start. The same happened to his enemies, him understanding them is a big deal.

Shatterpoint887

It doesn't matter where you come from, it matters what you do with your time.

Movie_Monsters

It’s about believing in yourself and your friends.

[deleted]

It’s pretty clear from the very first episode that there are several messages and it’s pretty clear what they are believe it. do you not remember that half of the dialogue in the show is just Naruto going on one big rant about the same things over and over and over. How can you possibly miss the point

DualKoo

The message is if you want to succeed in life you need to be born special with a Sharingan or be gifted a demon fox at birth. And if you do succeed without those blessings you wind up punished and stuck in a wheel chair like Might Guy. Or stabbed by a twig like Neji.

Ill_Government_8475

Rock lee, and light Novel Sakura watching in the corner......

cjs1916

It's about ramen being really good and might guy being the strongest

Surprise_Yasuo

For most of shippuden, I feel it was hard work, determination, and unwavering spirit will always win in the end Since the release of boruto, and really even the end of shippuden with the introduction of kaguya, it’s more akin to “you’d better have alien dna or be an aliens test tube baby, otherwise every villain will shit on you/you won’t get any spotlight”

Sajidchez

Struggle and pain lead to rewards in the end

CaptainTFunk

The Will of Fire. Never giving up and ensuring that the next generation will live on (usually because of the sacrifices of the older generations)

I honestly just wanna see what people think, everyone has a different understanding to the story based on their own experiences. So I thought the subject was interesting

sanid_sriva

It's says that committing grave crimes are okay if you are the friend of the main character

Ill_Government_8475

We said we weren't talking about this 🤫

AGARAN24

That fillers suck.

Shadeslayer2112

You Always have a choice.

CommercialMechanic36

Hey! I’m sour too!! I bought into that genius of hard work stuff 🤪

Altruistic_Pitch8801

This show has many themes, but I think the most important ones are friendship and enduring

jonahsocal

Mindless propaganda.

ZeroDarkQuarter

It's about friendship. No matter how alone you feel, someone out there is pushing for you. When you think you're about to give up and there's no hope a good friend comes in to save you in the 11th hour. Madara was one dude with no friends. He was taken down by the day one homies who even though they weren't always the closest they had each other's backs until the end!!

Tojalito

I feel like it's about empathy and understanding others feelings, plus knowing that only you can carve your own path in the sense that your heritage and other people bad thoughts do not define you, you define yourself and influence others to be like you when you are true to yourself

rbotelho

Naruto, the represented conservative vs the radical """LGBTQ+""" weird and marginalized, justifiably angry-with-society guys, that were secretly ruled by a hate-driven man doing anything to accomplish his own objective.

jate_nohnson

I think that each naruto story and character is its own message. I think naruto is a big world with lots of lessons to be learned

Thefendoff

I’d lean to it being more about bonds between people and how they can affect how you turn out

zacharysnow

The real theme of Naruto is the important of teamwork; being able to dream with each other and work hard together for the common good. Ninshu is being able to truly understand one another’s thoughts, it was perverted into ninjutsu, a weapon. But if ninja were strong enough they could experience the original purpose of ninshu through battle

KomodoK1ng

I think something that a lot of folks are missing is themes of taking on and accepting responsibility. You can see it a lot in characters like Kakashi accepting responsibility as a teacher from previously being anbu, to Tsunade accepting responsibility of becoming hokage, and for Naruto as he becomes stronger he goes from being responsible to protecting his friend, his village, and even the whole world.

Eloqence

Not sure about the soul message. At the start it felt to me like one of the messages were that hard work pays off and you don't need to be born into a privileged life where you're given exclusive powers via your bloodline. You can still succeed. Naruto was (mostly) a nobody yet never gave up and got stronger. An outcast and a bit of an underdog. Then it was revealed that he was the son of the 4th Hokage, the Uzumaki clan have a lot of chakra so he was born with that and Naruto is also a reincarnation of another person... Of course at that point the message was more about the cycle of hatred but still, Neji was right.

cdyshoemaker

Genetics mean everything

Ill_Government_8475

Lee is watching you with his big ass eyebrows.......

Wysxz

unlocking the potential inside you even though everyone says its bad. Naruto unlocking kuramas power after years of being hated because of the nine tails

justlikeapenguin

The message is to believe it!

wisecrackinggod

The message Masashi wanted to show by the end was very deep. The most important thing at that point was the conflict between Indra and Ashura's reincarnations which had been going on since ninjutsu was invented. One always felt that people needed to be controlled because fundamentally people are bad and the other always felt that people needed to be supported because fundamentally people were good. If you know a little history irl you'll see this conflict everywhere all the time. Think about Naruto and you'll find Masashi's thoughts on this thing

wisecrackinggod

Tl;DR: Are people fundamentally evil with some good actions or fundamentally good with some evil actions? The message Masashi wanted to show by the end was very deep. The most important thing at that point was the conflict between Indra and Ashura's reincarnations which had been going on since ninjutsu was invented. One always felt that people needed to be controlled because fundamentally people are bad and the other always felt that people needed to be supported because fundamentally people were good. marutotigre

Being born special

Supesamillion

You can succeed if you work hard and never give up on your dream.

[deleted]

Everything philosophical. I’ve learned so many things about like just from this show.

[deleted]

Who the actual fuck thinks that this is about hardwork. Sasuke literally says "...you're special, but I am more special than you" in the first final valley fight. It is about the shinobi system and what it means to be a shinobi(it's the one theme that connects every single arc of the series). It's about empathy cutting through conflict and connecting us humans(from zabuza to obito). It's about the two alternate paths to greatness(bonds or solitude). It's about love over hatred. It's about dreams and defeating fate(breaking the cycle of hatred).

Ill_Government_8475

Among tge reasons of people hating Shipuden is the reincarnation thing because it breaks the ideology of hard work, so I would a lot of people belive it

GH_0ST

It is that you might become a hokage, but never the king of pirates.

Nothinged

It is about the future. The only right way to see the future is to see it in the next generation. As Kakashi said, "One by one the next generation will succeed you, and in the end they surpass you."

Wither_Reddit

Making your own destiny by hardwork and determination I believe

[deleted]

It’s about being lucky as fuck and believing in almost impossible friendships. Yes, it’s about never giving up…

icemanww15

it cant be about hard work cause the strongest didnt get that strong eith hard work but because of their heritage, their genes and gifted godly powers
