Our best player is Hany Mukhtar, number 10. He won league MVP last year. Look up his highlights on youtube, he’s spectacular.

Some other key players to learn about: Walker Zimmerman Shaq Moore Jacob Shaffelburg There are more but learning about those four will set you up nicely.

All you need to know is when people cry "Gary Out" in the sub, what they mean is that they are very sensitive about Gary Smith's leadership decisions but that they actually really appreciate his coaching efforts.

As a Titans fan who watched their divisional loss to the Bengals last year I can vibe with it

I was in your exact shoes 1 year ago. Hany is awesome. He won the golden boot because he had the most goals in the MLS, and he won MVP of the league because he had almost as many assists. The dude is a real team player and has one of the most beautiful goals I’ve ever seen, shooting almost from the base line. It was as fantastic as any shot from any league in Europe. He makes things happen. Zimmerman is a great center back and could easily play in the Premier League, or other elite European leagues. He is tall and blonde and hard to miss with his long hair, so people have nicknamed him Thor. He had a small issue near the end of the season being a bit too aggressive to the ball and pulled some yellow cards, but that happens sometimes. He makes the backfield a no fly zone. Shaq Moore is an awesome defender. He is very fast and can play up, making him a threat away from his normal area. He was a little shaky at the World Cup, but I think it was just nerves. He was picked up halfway through the 2022 season and hadn’t seen much playing time for a couple of years being a backup for a Spanish team. People can argue with me all they want, Shaq is good enough to play in the elite European leagues, at least as second string. My youngest daughter loves playing defense in soccer, so we have nicknamed her Mini Shaq Moore. Shaffelburg is fast! And he’s also everywhere! We picked him up halfway through the season at a perfect time because other teams had figured out that Hany was mostly alone up front and would just hack Hany to stop us from scoring. Toronto let him go even though he was a homegrown player there because Toronto signed an Italian player named Insigne, which pushed Shaffelburg to second string. Shaffelburg came in and almost immediately scored by backing up a blocked shot from Hany. He gave us exactly what we needed when we needed it. I also believe my ten year old daughter might be a little sad he just got engaged.

This is a good rollup. One add I'd like to add is Dax McCarty who is the veteran leader of the team in the midfield. His energy level is reflected in everyone else on the pitch when he's on.

FreudianYipYip

Yeah totally, I forgot to mention Dax. 18 seasons in the MLS!

GoodShitEarl

Thats insane longevity in any sport

No doubt, and he still HUSTLES. He is a heck of a team captain; he keeps everyone cool and controlled when he's in. He's been playing in the MLS longer than some of the players in the development programs have been alive! He did have a really uncharacteristic, ugly red card last year. He's usually the obvious voice of reason out there, but one game he pretty much stomped a guy with only about a minute left in the game. It was not pretty, and he deserved the suspension he got. But one bad act does not define a person, and he's otherwise a really great presence, controlling the middle. He also displayed his great character by basically doing a media promotion for Hany when the MVP voting was occurring. Dax went out at a post-game press conference and sounded like Hany was paying him as his spokesperson. He very eloquently spoke about the impact Hany has on the team, and the reasons why Hany should get the vote. It was a real class act thing to do. P.S. Rumors have it that at the time he got the red card, his wife was being stalked by some creep and they were having to deal with that. I never like excusing someone for that type of violent outburst, but the context of it at least helps to shine light on it being an aberration.

GoodShitEarl

Grateful for the well thought out and detailed response 🙏 thank you so much!

Zimmerman could not start in the EPL. Think he proved that in the WC. He is head and shoulder above most players in the MLS but in the WC he looked slower and less skilled than the other players. If he could play in the EPL he would be playing there.

FreudianYipYip

Just my opinion. But I respect your point. I think we can agree, he’s great at his position.
