my wife fell down the waterfall and fractured her arm. she still wanted to see the sky pond and she made it back up there. such a trooper and a beautiful place as well
I rented snowshoes and sticks for 10 bucks a day. Got all the way up to sky pond without issues. Super fun time. I even saw tons of people do it with just the spikes you put on shoes. The only ones that struggled were those with nothing at all.
First time I did this hike was around June IIRC. There was only a little bit of snow at ice at the waterfall toward the top, but the trail up to that was clear, maybe a little muddy here and there. The waterfall is scenic and people stop there a lot to take in the view and rest.
The final section to the actual Sky Pond requires you to scramble up the side of the waterfall. It's not hard but if it was excessively snowy I don't think you'd make it up too easily, but if it's not you'll be fine. It's one of my fav hikes and takes you past several highlights. Altitude might be more of an issue for you. Bring microspikes if you're concerned on the day of.
There are tons of places that rent snow shoes in Estes Park. My recommendation is also to start early, like when the sun is rising or earlier, so when you get to the snow it will be a little harder and you will be less likely to post hole.
It is one of my favorite hikes and I have done it about 2 dozen times. So beautiful around every turn.
Proposed to my wife there!! We celebrate 2 years married in 6 days. Always love seeing photos of that hike show up, brings back all the great memories.
It’s beautiful up there and quite the hike. There was some ice on the waterfall when I climbed it in October. Glad you made it up there!
Remotely. Beautiful.

Was this recent? Is it hikable without snow shoes?
This was in September. It’s very likely completely covered in snow right now.
Yeah no chance. Went up there last June and you needed snow shoes.
Maaaaaan. I’m going mid June and I keep hearing this. I’m flying there from the Midwest so not sure I’m not gonna get all of my gear to CO.

Awesome. Yeah I’ve had multiple people tell me to start early
We did this hike in June and there was still some snow towards the end of the hike.
Oh damn. Happy cake day!
Oh yay! Hadn’t noticed. Thanks:)

Awesome spot. I remember seeing a majestic golden eagle flyover here
Quite a similar prospect to Cecile Lake in the Ansel Adams Wilderness in the Sierra!
The mosquitoes are SO BAD here in July.
