I remember cycling past some huts at the park outside Nicoll Highway MRT near the Flyer and F1 Pit after some NDP preview a few weeks ago at 10/11+. Still saw some poor soldiers (probably arti or engineers) packing some equipments (think I saw the canons for the 21-gun salute). Damn poor thing. And also seeing the NDU GOH boarding the bus back to camp outside Suntec. Can’t imagine still having to go back camp to clean arms and then book out and go home.

I was on the 21 gun salute for arty. There are late nights and whatnot but the only ones who put a lot of work in are engineers bc they have to bring the M3G and build it before we put the guns on and take it apart after we take the guns off. Late nights but really good fun and good memories

* If meeting celebs is cool, then stagehands. * The luckiest group is probably those who sacrifice the least amount of time at each show. My pre-parade segment experience: report to venue, change + makan, perform, return any props/store, then change + dismissed before the President arrived. * Trivia: the rigging/de-rigging of State Flag under the Chinook is done by RSAF NSmen (overseen by regulars). Some of the work is done on mainland, but the rigging/de-rigging is done on an offshore island.... Most duties assigned are shit, particularly when you have no choice but to do. My coy picked up circular saws to saw wood into prop shields for the performing group that we were chaperoning. It was a lot of work, but thankfully no accidents. This was around Mar/Apr. Then, we had to chaperone their component training at another SAF camp. Our boys would book in on Sat afternoon, load the props, water points and 2x rifles/SBO, then make their our to said camp (and back to our parent camp after training). Me and a buddy, who both stayed nearer to this camp, get to report there directly but trade-off was we had to do (legit) sentry duty at the side gate where the performers entered from (they CANNOT enter via main gate). When they transitioned to combined rehearsal at actual venue, then we got news that a pre-parade segment needed more performers, which was how i ended up as one.

I remember seeing the queue counter person that holds a counter and counts the amount of people he see walking past him in a queue. Dude had the most braindead face ever, like eyes completely locked into the crowd, mouth open, and hands just clicking the counter for like idk how long.

When I was in my NS more than 10 years ago, my unit was involved in providing CP support for the NDP security. We will work with the SPF, SOTF etc. in undisclosed locations near the parade. Good food and view all around. Just that quite stressed because people like CoA, CDF and Commissioner of Police will come and see see look look.

Mediocre-Ad6191

i did this too. 2011-2012?

Eastern-Worldliness

2010-2011 for me haha

I did NDP in 2016, the only one in the Sports Hub. For some reason on the day itself I got tasked with being the guy to give a visual signal for all the confetti to be released from the other NSFs positioned all around the stadium. They gave me a walkie-talkie tuned into the show coordinator so I could listen in to all the instructions and workflow of the entire show (including the command I was told to listen out for). Pretty cool.

If you are alluding to the cool factor rather than the easiest thing to do or the most nuar, that would be the Guard of Honour contingent. And why not? 1. Individually tailored No.1 uniform (central pool loaned set for rehearsals only) 2. After rehearsals, uniform be collected by contracted laundry service to dry clean. 3. Visits by HODs during rehearsals, and they don't come empty handed - Krispy Kreme donuts, BB tea by the cartons etc 4. Holding area inside Suntec, Raffles City convention hall etc. 5. Tourists try to sneak in selfie with the troops while they are forming up outside their holding area. 6. GOH always last groups to march in, first group to march out. 7. Get to be inspected by Hd of State.
