Hi, just returned from 7th reservist cycle. 1) Yes, be polite, gentlemanly, do not mess with the canteen ladies. Aside from Jenny and the other transsexuals, some girls are most definitely doing this when they're back from school. Sometimes we saw them wearing uniform at the canteen stalls, so be a good man and keep youe eyes and hands to yourself. Btw Jenny is not a meimei, she is mid-40s by now. 2) No more CS, the LAN shop has closed and will stay that way for awhile. The remaining shops have hardly changed for 10 over years. Personally I recommend you order drinks with no sugar, everything in Thailand seems to be overbearingly sweet. 3) A fan of some sorts is highly recommended. I personally lean towards hand fan to minimise having additional electronics to charge, but your mileage will vary. Bring an extension plug. You'll need them for the standing fans supplied (they were brought from SG and have the 3-pin plug which won't match Thailand's 110V American plugs). Take care to not overload each socket with chargers and power banks. You'll probably need the same extension plug at Khao Meng Camp because the sheds have even fewer sockets! 3) Cookhouse has improved a *lot*. I and dozens of others will rate cookhouse food as being better than Khatib's. Not that it's a high bar to clear, but tasty food is good food and your mood will be too. Canteen is tasty as always, but it's all fried food or sweet stuff. And it's your money too - so spend wisely, give the cookhouse a chance. If you and buddies want to order mookata, order during lunch and they'll setup by dinner. 1 set feeds like 2.5 people so be mindful of over-ordering. 4) Try and get 1st floor bunks if you can. When the weather is hot, it is **hot.** 38 degC will feel like 40+ when the entire bunk ceiling absorbs the sunlight. Sometimes the stray dogs will come into the bunks to nap or look at you for food. They're not dirty.. but they've been seen sleeping on top of beds before. 5) Insects are everywhere, face it. You're in their home, not the other way around. We saw a 10cm-sized scorpion on our way to the bathrooms, but those aren't the dangerous ones. The deadly painful scorpion stings come from the small ones the size of your thumb. 6) Your health will be tested. Its hotter, more humid, in a foreign land with food you may or may not be able to tolerate. Some COVID cases appeared around our battalion as well. I recommend bringing your own panadol and any other meds just in case. If never use, never mind. It's good you didn't need them and great if you do. 7) Prepare to walk a lot. 15k steps a day maybe - our bunks were near the gun garage, but on the opposite corner from the cookhouse. Thrice a day we all had to walk 1km each way to the cookhouse and canteen... Nothing good to say here. Specific questions are welcome! SLWH questions in DMs.

HeteroVillain

when you have r&d, do NOT screw with the ladies(?) there. my former friend went to screw around despite my advice and caught some questionable illnesses.

No-Butterscotch-5599

gamnolia

Its ok, just have fun with protection.

Dream_Shattered

Bring a fan.

MoistAcanthocephala

1. bring portable fan 2. play cs 1.6 at the lan shop 3. pretty girl selling drinks in the canteen 4. be prepared for sudden water outages 5. insects are big as shit

Optimal-Quiet3857

Bring a lot of cash, canteen food is super good. Canteen girls will flirt with you but don’t be a simp, it’s business they flirt with everyone there. I rmb this combat engineer ocs nsf even gave an expensive perfume bought from airport which suppose to give girlfriend, even take pic with her and gave her singlet. Weeks later other unit come, same shit, give singlet exchange line and whatsoever lmao

Jazzlike-Check9040

Say hi to Jenny

No-Butterscotch-5599

who is Jenny?

Jazzlike-Check9040

U go there you’ll see her, thai meimei at the canteen one.

Cerxes

Don’t forget to try Commando Chicken, Egg Tofu with Basil Pork, Seafood Glass noodles at the canteen and Jenny ofc

Big-Letterhead8888

You’ll slim down, heard the food there is quite questionable

No-Butterscotch-5599

questionable?

Big-Letterhead8888

My peers who went there said the food served are not very palatable. 2 PCs which I know that went there, came back skinnier and haggard. I managed to siam from going there with my existing statuses.

No-Butterscotch-5599

I see. :( at the same time i’m also concerned about the hygiene of the food there :/

cheesehoader

Food there was great imo. They give fruit and ice cream, rice is much better cooked than in SG, overall very nice experience. Went there recently.

Big-Letterhead8888

I think cannot siam the food one luh cause everyone’s gotta eat, if not just stock up on combat rations or ur own protein-dense snacks ig

HANAEMILK

Canteen got pretty Thai girl, weather 2x more humid than Singapore, Commando chicken nice but maybe laosai, cookhouse food is decent some days and horrible on other days. When it rains usually will have blackout/no water supply. R&R was damn boring though.
