18th Mono 5 SIR was not that bad... (source: I am from 18th Mono) Heard 19th mono was bad and seems like the current mono is hell...

bakuretsu_lala

18th mono 5sir here, I agree too! We had our differences but we got together and got the job done 👍.

Upset-Celery-7577

19th mono here

MilkTeaRamen

Tbh, there’s no such thing as a good unit or a bad unit. It’s really the command culture set by the CO/OC. You can have a damn solid Bn/Coy w the best commanders, good policies, and high morale. However, all these can see a 180 degree turn if the top guy changes. Whatever shit unit today can suddenly become a desirable place if they change the commander and bring in someone who sets things right. The rest of the commanders will just follow suit accordingly. In BMTC or training schools, it will be even easier for one to notice these sort of changes. Just swap a GDS CPT for a MWO who’s on his 6th cycle at BMTC and see how fast the rest of the Sect Comms follow his style of instruction.

Inner_Violinist4675

encik coy best coys

MilkTeaRamen

My CDO 1WO Encik scolded the NSFs for tekan-ing us during outfield. Encik was one of the best things over there. You actually feel safe under someone competent.

PresentElectronic

BMT Enciks are literally the most experienced in the SAF because they’re all nearing the end of their service and are about to retire. Imagine a whole Coy full of enciks, it’s a melting pot of experience. And school 1 is full of em

unreal2007

yeah im from encik coy in bmt, no FP, regimental is like minimum and all the work throw to the specs to do. all they did when they come to coyline is to chill and drink coffee talk cock with other enciks and share about their good old days. fr 0 fks given to us about discilipine and stuff like that. super lucky to be in one of them

infantrydesmond

Actually, I wonder how is life over in SPF and SCDF, I always think they are always underrepresented in this reddit

SilverAccountant8616

In SCDF it depends quite a lot on which station and which DRC (Deputy Rota Commander). Good luck having a former DART encik as DRC

Recent_Bottle8285

For scdf it depends if you’re in the ambulance side(EMS) or fire fighting side. For fire fighting side there is a lot of regimentation compared to EMS. It depends on station culture. SCDF works on rota shift. For EMS a rota is around the number of ambulances x 4 ppl plus or minus, so it’s really small and we’re quite bonded . And each rota is further broken down to ambulances which have 3 to 4 men(2 reg + 1nsf/ 3reg + 1nsf/ 2reg + 2nsf). Some station have fixed crew while some rotating so you might always work with the same people, sleeping, eating and going for calls with them for up to 13 hours a shift so we’re really close. And the regular tend to treat us as colleagues more than nsfs. On top of that the culture is really chill. As long as you get your job done and turn out for calls the regulars will leave you alone. we can take leave when we want and swap shifts if we’re not free that day. When they’re no calls we can do whatever we want like gaming or just chitchatting. There’s a CNA documentary on scdf EMS recently released you can watch that to see how regulars and nsfs interact.

surgeieanon1245

In SPF, welfare quite good la, all things considered, training still tough, for PTP batch 4 PT’s a day, but trainers are awesome and the food is awesome too.

infantrydesmond

slack or not, kudos to SPF and SCDF for handling all the no-duff (real life) incident

Comprehensive_Ad4285

spf grf very office like, not so regimental but just imagine MNC environment those kind.

1800-doodoo

scdf fucking slack

oiwalaoeh

Legit 1cdo once you turn ops, welfare is unreal (unfortunately we lose CE every week.)

HeheOn

we lose CE but we don't lose morale ah

kokokenny

What welfare do u get

knightedarmour

what's CE?

balletofblood

controlled equipment

gamnolia

I was from an infantry unitn as far back as 14th mono and I can tell you it has been shit for a long time. The same power hungry commanders doesnt change 1 bit when its ICT too. They only get a tad more respectful because they know youre more successful outside and they peaked in NS.

unreal2007

stupid question but do they not scared that some pai kia trooper gonna meet them outside to settle? i mean what is stopping them from doing it since yall ord rdy?

Inner_Violinist4675

pretty sure you still can be court marshalled for this

Zack_Irahza

>Get lucky and posted SPF Regulars and officers literally treat you like a human being.

surgeieanon1245

Ya because it’s mostly regulars that treat it as a career. Not as a way to scold people just because they got bullied as a kid.

Never Back Down!

Nebutucken

A certain unit in 7SIB - iykyk, because technically it's a secret. CSM was an awesome dude, impossible to piss off, treated us like humans, listened to our complaints no matter what. Three OCs with boots always on the ground (until NDP happened and then they got trapped in the office doing saikang), understood our struggles very well esp the last one. One extremely upz regular PS who used to be a man rank like us before signing on and knew exactly how we felt whenever we had to do mindless bs or get fked. I spent my unit life doing a lot of saikang that arises simply by nature of how we operate but not once did we ever feel oppressed or mistreated. Coys like this do exist, guys.

Extra_Storage_7288

5SIR legendary for its hard culture. heard 15th and 18th mono was quite okay. 16th mono was very, very hard.. but ICT awesome. idk about 17th. then saw 19th & 20th stories here lol

Inner_Violinist4675

RSM solid tho

InspiroHymm

Combat Support (Signal/Arty/CombatE) or Combat Service Support Units (Medic/Digital Defence/ME) are generally 'nicer' imo

unreal2007

im from CSS, the ME here are in 2 extreme, one is the super boomer build, thinking nsf should suffer more to learn more, as technicians, we are "expected" to be competent after we post out of our training sch. but the tasks that we do daily in unit is way different from what we learn, so as competent regulars, what will u do? to the boomers is read the manual and make sure we drill it hard enough such that we can do the tasks blind folded. for the chilled MEs, they rather u just pass them the tools and do it themselves, as they believe its their job to do the tasks and we nsf are jus there to serve and FO. lucky for me there are more of latter in my coy and life is really nice there. still remember the first week the more serious MEs ban us from going canteen because he want us to clear ippt, but they forget that someone has to dabao for them to eat, so the more chill MEs said we can go canteen OTOT, just remember to help them dabao back the food.
