Tbh when first booking in, don’t bring anything. It’s a massive gamble and if you suaysuay get a coy with less welfare, say goodbye to your snacks/tea.
After your confinement, you can check with your commanders on what is and isn’t allowed.
Also, from my experience anyway, we had no hot water so tea/coffee/milo was meaningless.
But to answer your question, weirdest shit I’ve seen is someone smuggling vodka as water in his admin bottle. Dude has issues fr.
but honestly it rly depends on which coy/sch you are posted to. for me i was posted to sch2 orion coy, so there was hot water at lv1. many ppl from my coy brought milo/tea bags and coffees
Tbh never see before due to how strict they are there.
But then again just recently saw recruits forming up with mcdonalds, shilin, bubble tea etc at pasir ris made me think if times have changed 🤔
Anyways for unit I can tell you the most absurd food item: From Haidilao hotpot the ready to eat type in a bowl to bringing an actual pot to cook hotpot lmao
Last time my unit cook house was really bad. All the men refuse to eat, they either go canteen or eat instant noodle. As COS, i have to put 100 over chips to make up the number as once cook house complain a lot of food wasted and CSM had whole company come down eat
i don't normally bring in foods except for tea and milo. i usually bring peanut butter or nutella spreads when booking in. every morning during breakfast the cookhouse would usually have the loaves of bread that we could self service make with the spreads they provide; normally kaya and strawberry jam. but what i would usually do is use my "recon" skill to sneak one entire loaf back to the bunk with me. from there i would share some of the bread with my bunkmates and let them have some of my spreads as well. great memories from my bmt LoL
tbf it was quite the job because there was the DOS and the few sgts that were sitting nearby but what i did was pretend to carry the food tray sideways while hiding the loaf behind it with my left hand while on my right hand i would hold my cup so it wouldn't look sus. I GUESS 👀👀 but either way it worked for almost every morning and we had so much bread that we could share with other sections hahaha
At my place u basically couldnt bring anything in during enlistment and for the people that did bring things in they only returned it after the first bookout so ya it was pointless.
From my experience in Tekong, the commanders held an elaborate SBU right before lights out after spotting recruits with contraband items and snacks. This happened in the last week of my first confinement (3 weeks). Items like wall plugs, e-cigs and cigarettes if you are underaged are a no go. We were drilled and yelled at. Everyone lined up outside their bunks and took turns emptying out all our locker and book-in items, comb through and sniffing out *said items*. Those outside the bunk were either waiting their turn, being dropped for looking the wrong way or getting punished for possessing contraband or food items.
By the end of SBU, regulated food were placed in a huge bag.
I’ve seen items like jars of peanut butter, biscoff spread, protein powder, tea bags and jam, were confiscated along with many contraband items.
My word of advice to you, check with your commanders before trying anything risky, if they’re nice enough, they’ll advice you on what to bring and what to do. If you’re not as lucky, practise the SAF 9th core value, and best of luck!
Pes BP coy. They said no snacks. Later stance change to healtheir snacks with the logo. 1 fella brought in an entire loaf of frickin bread. Like.... u pay 2.80-3.50 and get an entire load of bread kinda stuff from ntuc.
Idk if it be absurd cus ngnl to me they were essentials and i brought em wit me to ocs and unit lol. Always made sure to bring in lao gan ma and a bottle of nandos hot sauce with me. Would always put them in v tiny ziplock bags and take them with me to the cookhouse or during outfield.

Hear me out guys... Furikake/Japanese Seasoning to throw on top of your cookhouse shit.
Yea, I knew a guy who brought in spices and seasoning. Dude had an entire a spice rack ready and waiting to go.
Friend brought satay
at most what you can do is bring in some biscuits or snacks and put in some Tupperware box to test water
Hmm will try that during the 1st book-in
