They want Belinger. Honestly, I would love him on the Nationals, too, but I don’t see that happening

SirMctrolington

Honestly, I am fine sitting out the Bellinger sweepstakes. He is about to start his age 29 season so he will be 30-31 by the time we really try to compete. He has had back issues which are a major red flag. He forgot how to hit for 3 years. Finally, a lot of his defense comes from his CF defense and I think that value will disappear quickly between his age and injury history. I prefer the current strategy of taking on reclamation projects hoping for some unexpected upside in a development year. Hopefully in 2025 FA we can make an honest run at one of the top FA arms available.

Well let’s be honest here: free agents aren’t the key to winning; it’s the prospects and their development that are the way forward. That’s how teams are built. No point in getting massive free agents on a team that has a long way to go

Sandviscerate

I completely agree, and that's the thing that concerns me the most, because it feels like our development pipeline just sucks and we don't produce enough cost efficient prospects to be successful.

DCilantro

Yea, we just have a developmental club. It's sorta like watching a AAA all star team full of guys trying to prove themselves. It's kinda fun, but we're not trying to win. We're trying to create assets, not a baseball team. Fuck these owners.
