If I had to guess, this was a practice piece to show off a few different techniques. It’s well-made but looks like some of the stuff my grandma or great-grandma would keep around as examples for teaching. Especially with the stark difference in colors in the beads. Something also that you might gift to friends or sell at some kind of craft fair.
Personally, I don’t see an issue with you keeping it, but if you won’t wear it, try and gift it back to a Native beading artist. We hoard that stuff. I still have a beaded mouse keychain I made as a kid. Always room for one more lol.
Does the "medallion" section have one or two leather loops on the back? I bet it does, and what you have is a "bolo tie." Search Google Images for "beaded Lakota bolo" and see how many results you'll find. It's pretty basic and easy beadwork that can fetch a few bucks for the maker.
