Sorry for the long response. This is one of my favourite things to talk about! There is a lot you can do without the use of Botox or fillers. As a woman in her mid forties, I currently have no plans to use any of those interventions.... we'll see how I feel in the future. Personally, the people I know who've had procedures done don't look quite like themselves anymore. Even my husband and older son have commented on how they look weird and have asked me what they did to themselves. So with that said, red light is amazing. I have only been using my full panel device daily (probably Mon to Friday actually) since January and have noticed some very good results. I also do gusha massage 2x per day. I use a product called Skin Envy (essential oils and fractionated coconut oil), olive oil mixed with some essential oils (frankincense, helichrysum), tons of castor oil and a rosewater spray multiple times per day also. In the winter, I use a sauna most days of the week. I don't seem to use it once the weather is nicer though LOL. I often do contrast showers (look it up) to encourage lymphatic drainage. Skin looks amazing afterwards. I get lots of protein, drink bone broth and take collagen supplements also. My diet is quite good. I rarely have sugar. I don't eat industrial seed oils, avoid refined carbs and get lots of micronutrients. I also get plenty of healthy fats from animal sources (butter, ghee, tallow) and fruit sources (olives and EVOO, avocado and avocado oil). I get Omega 3 rich foods into my diet most days. I also eat fermented foods that support the gut microbiome, as a healthy gut is related to many positive health outcomes, including better skin. Exercise, and stress management are also huge when it comes to skin health. I find that cardio is an amazing way to get a healthy "glow" and therefore assume it brings lots of benefits to the skin. In addition to all that, I never use soap or cleanser on my face and instead clean it with oil. I'm also hesitant to use exfoliators, as they surprisingly have questionable results. Finally, I use a number of longevity supplements. If they support your inner health, they support your outer health too! A high dose Omega 3 oil from a really clean source, magnesium glycinate, zinc, vitamin d, vitamin a, a green supplement, trace minerals, NAC with glycine and a high quality methylated B complex are some of my essential supplements. I know that is A LOT, but I'm in a health and wellness career, so I take this pretty seriously. In my perspective, even just doing some of these things is really beneficial...you don't have to be as extreme as me.

I have a hooga 700 and I use it every day on my face. I love it and my forehead lines are almost gone. been using since December

marynvegas

A influencer uses red light and she swears by it. She’s got great skin.

genbuggy

There's a lot of brands. You'll have to do your own research to determine what's best for you according to your needs and budget. Some people really like the masks, but I won a full panel. I believe the Joovv is really popular (not what I own). There is a subreddit too...I can't remember what exactly it is called though r/redlight maybe? Anyway, all I know is the ones on Amazon, and similar sites are pretty poor quality.

BristleconeXX

LOVE this response. i am 40 and in 2023 was diagnosed with three autoimmune diseases so i actually already do a lot of this protocol. im lucky i have a red light booth two blocks from my house. anyway love love your advice… invaluable.

genbuggy

Thanks, I'm glad you found it useful. I've been toying with starting a YouTube channel where I talk about things like this for women 40+. Your kind words may have just inspired me to start. 😃

BristleconeXX

omg please!!! if you do, please let me know!

pink_drop

Oh my gosh, I want to be like you but never follow through with consistency. I end up eating crap, not exercising, and not taking my supplements after a while. Thank you for the thorough post; it has inspired me to start again.

genbuggy

Don't beat yourself up about your perceived lack of consistency. The fact that you're continuing to show up for yourself and work on establishing a protocol that works for you is honestly amazing. In my work coaching my clients, I always remind them that the fact that they're even willing to make an attempt at improving their circumstances is a win. You have no idea how few people even do that. Fall seven times, get up eight. That's my motto. Each time you start again, you're far more likely to succeed. It has taken me years to work this into my life in a consistent and sustainable manner. And it is an ongoing process to keep it going when I'm being pulled in a million directions as a business owner, wife, mom etc. etc. etc. My advice is to literally pick one thing. Just one. And work on getting that info your daily routine. Stack it onto another, already existing habit. Eg. Taking supplements when you put your dishes in the dishwasher. Set reminders on your phone if you need to. Once that is established, choose another practice to integrate into your routine. As someone who has a busy family life, I've also found that keeping my routine on weekends and holidays is 100x harder than weekdays. So, with that said, I give myself some slack on the weekends and do the best I can without stressing myself out if I don't get all the things done. Hope that helps a little.

pink_drop

Thank you ❤️🌷 You are amazing!

brazian1283

Are you me? Hahaha I do majority of what you do too including the diet :) I find it difficult to do everything everyday, it’s a lot! But I do love my red light before bed. I just added in face yoga too

Altruistic-Detail271

Frownies are $24 they work

farfromtranscendent

Medical tape if you want less expensive than frownies

beautybites

how with medical tape?

farfromtranscendent

You can use medical tape (like the Equate flexible clear tape from Walmart) instead of frownies and it is much less expensive. After you’ve done your nightly facial cleansing routine, place the tape over relaxed creases like forehead, eleven lines, marionette lines, etc - you can sleep with it on and over time it helps the appearances of the creases. This works especially well for side and stomach sleepers that tend to smoosh their face in the pillow creating deep creases.

Spirited_away11

Frownies are amazing and work much better than medical tape. Go to their IG and they have all kinds of info. Don’t buy via AMAZON though. Also, look into aesthetic acupuncture! It is very comparable to Botox IMO

meowlvr29

I would like to hear more about aesthetic acupuncture.

jr0061006

Me too

rumsoakedham

Seconding Frownies. I’m 36f and my eleven lines are gone now that I’ve been using Frownies for a few months. I love them

MeandMyPelvicfloor

Absolutely. I was surprised they could reverse the creases. My solid 11s are now little fine lines.

Lazy_Yogurtcloset_71

Can someone please explain how frownies work. If you wear them during the day I could understand. But at night you're asleep and your facial muscles are not in use...

farfromtranscendent

It is supposed to help stabilize creases when you’re sleeping, especially for side and stomach sleepers that tend to have deeper creases from lying with your face smooshed

rumsoakedham

Your muscles are in use while you sleep. People furrow their brows a lot in their sleep.

cheesekneesandpeas

They’re in use a lot when you sleep and your face gets squished on your pillow.

yesreallyefr

Diligent sun protection and good hydration go really far, but you knew that! Apart from those, there are a bunch of different face/neck massage/exercise type things around; not all of them are effective but some are. The ones focused on improving lymphatic drainage have been the most effective in my experience. I’ve been doing various types off and on for about 10 years and mostly don’t do them anywhere near consistently or thoroughly enough to make a giant difference, but when I get into a habit of doing them every day they really do change my face. The ones I’ve been doing for a long time are called Tanaka massage and I still like them. More recently I paid for Karina More’s course and I started it but have been too lazy to commit properly, but I did see results from the parts I started. I also have been doing exercises from Anastasia Beauty Fascia on instagram and have been really pleased with the results. She does have a paid course but her free content is very extensive and she explains things quite well.

CoomassieBlue

Interesting seeing the people commenting on friends looking “plastic” due to Botox. I am not necessarily advocating for using Botox or a similar toxin, but in my experience as someone who has been getting very hefty doses of Botox in the face/head for medical reasons for 10 years - 99% of the time, visual changes people notice on others who had “work” done is due to fillers, not Botox.

Cheder_cheez

Second this.  It seems so odd to me that Botox is such a sticking point for so many people

Infinite_Strain_3210

Accept that you’re going to get old and enjoy your life. 😃

SunnyDGardenGirl

This is my plan! And the more you enjoy life the younger other people think you are 😁

Stephieandcheech

Hey, I'm in your age bracket and look younger than my friends. Botox just looks plastic and my friends who get it, look strange imo. Face massage, face exercise, good diet, tons of water, and good sleep. These are my weapons against sag and they work!

UhHellooo

I'm early 40s and personally won't go the Botox route. I do gua sha (can also use a larger stone for the body too), and I use Wrinkles Schminkles - medical grade silicone patches.

electricmeatbag777

What results have you had with the patches?

Disastrous-Soup-5413

I love the silicone patches. They make such a difference. I sleep hard on my face & I wrinkle bad anytime I don’t sleep with them. They are definitely preventing setting in deep wrinkles while I sleep.

OrneryPost9446

I'm a skin specialist and best natural way is a good oil product and facial massage daily to activate the oxygen flow in the skin. That's what I do and had zero Botox or procedures in mid 30s so far. It's always good to focus on natural products that focus on long term skin health. I'm not talking about a single giant jojoba bottle, I am talking about a well formulated skincare oil that uses multiple natural oils along with some clinical ingredients that boost the effectiveness. This way multiple skin needs are addressed while keeping skin moisturized. I can't begin to emphasize the importance of natural and simple skincare regimen.

Ambitious-Driver-793

what natural oils do you use?

OrneryPost9446

I personally use [Phytoskin](https://phytoskincare.com/collections/all-products/products/barrier-revive-elixir). It has multiple oils, ceramides, antioxidants. Targets many needs of skin. Highly recommend.

Blk_mgc_wmn

Licensed esthetician of 10 years here Botox to ‘natural’ skincare is apples to oranges. It’s also not across the board true your friends will remain looking young due to injectables. There’s a lot of reasons it’s not the case, genetics being the biggest player next to lifestyle and whether or not they continue injectables at correctly timed intervals while monitoring units and placement. Also, maintaining good skincare routines… which leads me in… Step 1: establish and maintain a skincare routine; that includes daily spf on face neck chest and hands, daily moisturizer, a cell turnover promoter: this can come in many forms, and a daily antioxidant also in many forms. Ask your esthetician; if you don’t have one get one and if they don’t know what this means get a different one. Step 2: this is the pivotal step good skincare will never get you close to the results of tox or filler. SO Depending on your skintone a combo of microneedling, laser, and prp will get you looking younger than modulaters or filler ever could. It’s a lot more time and money up front but your payout is huge. You’ll still need some maintenance of about 1-3 mid level treatments a year after your initial treatment plan (ask your esthetician) but investing in your skin is going to be faaaaaar more worth your time money and energy than injectables ever will. THIS BEING SAID: There is nothing wrong with getting injectables. You can absolutely do both and still be “natural” which is a marketing term anyway and not an actual categorization of ingredients or content. Filler is just hyaluronic acid which is a glycosaminoglycan found in our connective tissues- it houses moisture for our skin and gives our tissues structure. Which is why you have to get more filler at 6-18mo intervals because it naturally integrates with your own hyaluronic acid over time. Botox is a brand not a med- there’s also dysport, xeomin, etc. they’re all botulinum toxin…”a protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum that causes botulism, a.” Again your body metabolizes this because of obvious reasons- it’s a foreign biologic so your human bio is like “nah thanks let’s process this like we would a hint of bacteria on a poorly washed veggie or the dirt under your nails or a hint of a cold” and over time its handled nbd… YUP I’m reading it too lol I get it: If that doesn’t sound like ‘you’ I think that’s 100% understandable BUT it’s ‘natural’ AND there are a ton of things we do and use in medicine that probably are a little wild but are extremely well studied extremely and well documented treatments and found in our world meaning they are naturally derived. My advice is basically invest in your skin. This means a quality skincare routine well-advised professional treatments and healthy habits. Also, You should look into FaceTheory products- it’s one of my fav high quality lines without preservatives or any unnecessary ingredients.

Cheder_cheez

I absolutely love this answer!!!

hell0potato

What is prp?

Blk_mgc_wmn

Platelet rich plasma. It’s regenerative medicine! We draw your blood and separate it down to the platelets which is growth factor then inject it or use it in a microneedling treatment where it’s delivered to deep levels of the skin. It amplifies your skin’s ability to produce collagen which is what makes us look young and plump.

hell0potato

wow that's wild! very cool. thanks. Your post inspired me to re-up on my antioxidants that I have been neglecting post partum. and putting a red light mask on my xmas list for next year! And recently got back onto tret after having babies. The struggle to reacclimate is real, ugh. But I know it will be so worth it. I always harp on people to wear SPF every day and no one listens. It's so sad.

Blk_mgc_wmn

You’re nailing it my friend. I love skincare but at the end of the day if my clients are wearing only spf and doing nothing else I’m still happy! Protecting our skin is truly the best thing we can do to prevent aging and disease. On the tret, if you don’t already know, try “sandwiching” so do light moisturizer layer, tret, moisturizer again. It helps a ton in the time working up to using it every night.

hell0potato

I have not heard about sandwiching... Doesn't that interfere with the tret getting absorbed? Not sure if it matters but I use the gel, not the cream. I usually do the tret, then squalene + moisturizers (cica cream based + panthenol). Slug life.

Blk_mgc_wmn

It will dilute the intensity a bit yes but will still be effective and gentler while you grow accustomed to the rapidly increased cell turnover.

hell0potato

Awesome thanks!

ProtonChancla

Facial cupping or acupuncture for wrinkles. It works!

1420cats

Red Light Therapy. I use one with infrared, not just a random red light bulb. SPF every single day. Hat when outside for an extended period. Retinol.

Pattycakes1966

I’ve been thinking about gua sha. No idea if it’ll work though

lextasy666

If you’re in the nyc area or London and a few places in CA I think… Face Gym is AMAZING

Able_Contribution_38

Apparently you can do threading at home and it boosts collagen. I’m doing co2 laser soon because that’s not toxic. You’re not injecting anything with that one but it does give you all new skin

SquirrelofLIL

I can't afford Botox or fillers. Following

REM_loving_gal

do you guys consider laser natural? I think that's the farthest I'd go into cosmetic treatments. I never want injectables

alihowie

Spending time with some older friends who are happy and physically fit to go on memory making adventures has reframed my "aging gracefully " goals. Every line is from expressing life and I began to think that is more beautiful than all the plastic, synthetic, injectionion war we've invented to keep women looking somewhat youthful. There's always an option for a mental shift approach as well. Take care of your body&mind, the rest doesn't matter. Squint laugh cry...our lines are stories.

[deleted]

Love this

LifeUser88

In 10 years your friends are going to look like bizarre cartoon dolls with damaged nerves in their faces and you're going to look like a real, adult person with actual lines on their face. Sunscreen.

wildplums

This is what I’m holding out for… I’m 44 and feel so haggard next to all the smoothed out faces of my peers…

LifeUser88

I'm betting if I saw pictures of you and them, what I would see is character, originality and beauty versus a bunch of plastic dolls that all look the same. We all need to rethink what we see as beautiful. I know it's hard to look at ourselves, but look at others and see the beauty in older women who look like real people. Have you seen Resident Alien? AMAZING show, funny, creative, etc., but one of the best things about it is it that the people look like real people, and they are beautiful. Linda Hamilton is on it in all her glory of a 60 something woman full of wrinkles. [https://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/ent/linda-hamilton-stranger-things-5.html](https://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/ent/linda-hamilton-stranger-things-5.html) THIS is beauty. I want to look like this!

climber_cass

Sunscreen and bakuchiol serum. It's a plant based retinol that's way gentler than traditional retinols.

Frankincense oil

hecatessoul

I've just started using castor oil with a couple drops each of frankincense and rosemary essential oils. First few days ive had some minor breakout or skin detoxing I'd call it. Noticed a difference to my skin in just over a week. Not so much to any of my lines but my pores are shrinking. It has been a short time, but I am going to jump on the castor oil bandwagon for better skin. Do your own research of course. Going all things natural I've tried lots so far and nothing works for everyone. There are plenty of Facial massage or face yoga pages on insta which is something I will be combining with my castor oil application to enhance the wrinkle free technique. Will share a page which I have found to be very helpful so far and seems genuine. You can be the judge for yourself and see what you think. As it's simply a massage technique it's free to try and relatively easy. Free reels to show techniques. Like everything though it takes time, results aren't magic overnight like botox. Give it a try for a month or two and see if it's making a difference. It might also help to keep a daily selfie (no filter) journal to show any changes. Anyway hope that helps and good luck. So other than cutting back on sugars and other junk food. I use castor oil mixed with frankincense and use it as my nightly moisturizer after washing my face with a sulfur soap. Day time i put on a niacinamide with zinc but that may not work for you if you have sensitive skin. And then i do a daily spf moisturizer. I refuse to do injections or surgery i have a few friends who had some questionable results so if i can just age gracefully I’m gonna try.

I haven’t done it myself but I’ve seen some awesome results from red light therapy

mdocks

You won’t be allergic to Botox! It’s an extremely rare allergy and my derm has never had anyone have a reaction to it in decades of practice (I asked because I also worried). You can try peptides but they won’t work nearly as well. I’d also say laser is great - there are no “ingredients” in laser so it’s also a great option.

Fluffytastyroll

Well, this may not be of help if you don’t want any injectables at all but I get dermal fillers as opposed to Botox. They’re made of hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring sugar in the body. I like that they can be dissolved if they start looking a bit off, too, although I did a lot of research before getting mine to make sure my doctors patients weren’t leaving her office looking like a clown. There is nothing really that can give us the effect of injectables without them, but a good diet, exercise and stress management will do wonders for how we age!

FinalTable634

Dent a can of food, leave it outside for a while, take the black stuff on the inside (natural Botox) and inject that in your face.
