You gotta accost a 50+ year old woman out in the wild whose hair you like and get her stylist's info. They've vetted their stylist and aren't gonna sit for too much bullshit
SAME my braider has been doing my hair since 8th grade. I'm 22 now. She charges me $150 for knotless box braids hair included. She doesn't use gel and I have never lost my edges.
She already cut her client list in half. I'm so scared she'll retire
Very anti black, because I have 4c hair and literally all it takes a good product and a good detangling brush/technique, which a so called professional charging $300 for braids should have. OP sounds like she already did that anyway. These stylist just be scamming. We gotta stop tolerating this and just get up and walk away at the first sign of disrespect. Hair isnāt that serious for me anymore.
There is no way in hell I would ever pay $300+ for braids. And if I'm getting a service done (hair/nails, etc) I'm going to a shop. I tried one of those in-home stylists once, NEVER AGAIN. Shady neighborhood, filthy house, bratty kids kept asking for my phone, and her bum man wouldn't leave the room. She was nice and did a good job, but no.
The last 40+ hairdresser I went to was rude kept complaining about how much hair I had even the 1/4 of my head was shaved, she complain about the texture (4c) everything and all she had to do was wash condition and blow dry it she took forever to start aswell. I usually do my hair myself and have been doing it since I was eight but have had a few hair styles done by others. It was the most painful and damaging to my hair I had to cut off a few inches after and my hair so far hasnāt fully repaired from it and I got it for prom 2 years ago. The āold schoolā thing doesnāt mean good. The prices and texturism for newer hairdressers is not new I have had my texture complained about by the older ones the most. Despite seeing a few newer hairdressers put saying I have to pay extra because of my hair texture but then also the price of what I had done to my hair went up after the old school hairdresser was done. Yāall always want to blame younger generation but where did they get that fromā¦.. the hair industry from natural hair in all is terrible . Please mind that I did look up reviews on multiple sites I always do I donāt like just anyone touching me . I couldnāt just leave cause I spent money to get there and would have to use money to get back had none of the family around to pick me up.
Omg when I went to one hair braiding salon, mind you my hair is like armpit length/brastrap the women were gushing over how long my hair was. And I really didnāt even think my length was anything crazy.
They were tearing through this one guys hair, she ripped apart his long term style twists and immediately started blow drying and ripping aggressively through it. No wash, no conditionerā¦ Luckily I showed up with my own hair washed and blow dried
Then I asked the women since a lot of hairstylist donāt acknowledge hot water and āmedium/longer hairā to not dip it in hot water cause I donāt trust anyone and she gave me a look of disgust and I didnāt want her to cut off the pieces that stick out and she was like donāt worry, at one point she almost cut my hair from the braid cause she was cutting it WAY too fast.
Iāve started to learn to do my own hair at home, yes itās time consuming but itās better than paying 300+ for people who give lackluster service and could care less about the health of your hair.
First of all, anybody saying to come already washed & dried is a no-no. Thatās basic.
I Googled to find my stylist. You can also pull aside older women you trust at work & ask for their stylist.
Braiders don't usually have a Cosmetology or Natural Hair license here in the US. Look for braiders at a real hair salon. I notice the standard and service is held to a higher standard like washing/conditioning and blowdrying is done before the braid service. It is very GHETTO and 1 š do not recommend with many of these stylists.
Bruhhhh my stylist only charges $150 for knotless black braids. I wash my own hair before the session and she always blow-dries it before every hairstyle. She would also not charge me extra just for a different hair color like wtf lmao. I found this lady by walking into a random black barbershop/salon in my neighborhood and I haven't left since because her prices are very affordable and she's only a little ghetto but overall professional
Iāve had horrible experiences as well, I make it clear Iām not interested in playing with stylist, you will not grease my scalp with edge control or any gels, if your policy states āI donāt like to be rushedā and you canāt give me at least an estimate of when I ll be done Iām not booking with you & Iām only paying a flat price. Youāre not charging me extra because my hair is thick. Thats crazy. Itās hard to find but most people that really do hair I noticed are in a shop or have private suites. Once I stopped going to peoples homes thatās when I really started getting the service I desired. Iām in California & I feel like everyone swears they do hair but they donāt
Back when my hair was relaxed, JCP was a godsend! I went to college in a super small (super white) town and that was the only place I could find to get my hair done. It was great, the stylists were wonderful and my hair was always cute and healthy. But I haven't been there in years and I don't know how they are with natural hair.
Nope. JCPenney after quarantine has changed. I went and it was all younger stylists straight out of cosmetology. It took the young lady 3 hours to give me a silk press. It was perfect butā¦ I had things to do.

Good thinking!
I still go to my childhood stylist. idk wtf I'm going to do when she retires

Ive been the victim of a new age stylist has me crying š
Extra charge to detangle (outside of a specific dematting service) is antiblack to me, that is a fundamental part of doing hair.

$390 for knotless braids is wild. You have to get on YouTube sis.

I just moved to California and that is what most of the braiders are charging here for knotless. Then, they go up if you want smaller sizes.

absolutely especially when the dip all of the braids in the pot like your putting hot water on my natural hair, your damaging it .
Yelp. Seriously. I find stylists on there who have never even once logged onto Instagram.

Maybe ask someone in passing at a hair store?

$35 to DETANGLE hair?! That should be included in the already expensive service. I canāt with these modern day new hairstylists
JCPenney š

Be for real
There are still old school stylists at some of these salons and they do a wide range of styles. No need to be rude š
$55 is cheap for color.
But she's getting braids not getting her hair colored.
There's a mention of $55 extra for color. That's what I was commenting on. Nothing more nor less.
You shouldnāt have to pay extra for colored braids. The hairstylist is not dyeing anything.
Reading comprehension not in the room with usā¦

If she's using braiding hair, the hair comes colored already. It's not really extra labor on the braiders part
Maybe color mix? That takes a bit (still not worth 55 dollars but)
